UNBELIEVABLE. The best Mediterranean food I’ve had. Best chicken shawarma, best gyro meat, best taziki sauce, best salad, and GREAT hummus and pita. Portions are huge, prices are reasonable. Service is excellent. There is also a market connected. Get there now!

Great prices! Our server was very nice and helped recommend some yummy platters. $5 for a huge gyro. They also have a shop with all kinds of foreign foods & goods. Support local, check them out!

Decades of service and quality. Having the market means we can first have a snack or great meal and then take home part of the restaurant for later consumption. Parking is limited which may require a short walk. It is a very busy restaurant partially because of many repeat diners and excellent reputation. It is because everything about the place is likeable. The manager is easy to converse with an staff could not be more helpful. I was curious about shelf life and checked at least 30 best if purchased by. There are some 2022, a lot of 2023 and some 2024. No 2021.The have a great feta cheese varieties as well as olives. The price per pound for all 8 varieties is very reasonable. Bulgarian, Greek and French feta cheeses.

I think the food here is absolutely fantastic! They do not skimp when it comes to the tzatsiki sauce and the kabob is well done. Theres also a little mini market in the place where you can buy many spices amongst other things. Definitely come visit if you are in the area!

Good food, chill atmosphere, good service. The location isnt high rent, but that means the food is reasonably priced. Hajis had been a staple for a long time in Tempe for good reason; they have good food for affordable prices.Their store is attached too, so when youre done eating your can grab some groceries. They specialize in Mediterranean and middle eastern groceries.

Been going for 30 years... Always solid, delicious, and very affordable... Grocery prices are excellent. I really think they could bump up their prices 20% and it would still be very affordable!

Ive been here a few times. Food is good, fast, and inexpensive. I also appreciate the attached market that carries a bunch of products I cant find elsewhere. Im leaving this review because of my experience this evening; I didnt catch his name, but the server was a young man who was super friendly and funny. I left the table to pay and didnt indicate that I planned to take the leftover hummus with me. He had the table clean by the time I returned and apologized profusely; I totally understood that I should have left some indication I wanted to take it and considered it a loss but he insisted on packing up some new hummus and pita to take with me. That was not at all expected but was greatly appreciated and a testament to the great customer service and experience they provide.

We all used to love this place, but it now seems to be hit and miss. Chicken shawarmas can be outstanding, but sometimes they are dry and chicken overcooked. We have tried asking for extra sauce but no matter how many times you repeat it, they dont always accommodate.

Amazingly tasty sandwiches and rice platters. But i would recommend if they could give some sauce or a dip with rice platters, as sometimes i felt it was too dry, eating just rice and meat, with no dip or sauce. But overall a great restaurant. Pride of Tempe for Halal food !Do check out their market when you are over there, for desserts, breads, olives, spices etc.

Amazing stop in for a quick lunch. The service was fantastic, and the quality matched. The staff answered all of our questions, provided thoughtful recommendations, and packaged it all without an issue. The gyro meat was top quality, and the chicken shawarma was another highlight. The associated store had a ton of unique food, sauces, spices. Highly recommend to stop in and give it a try!

The food was delicious and of high quality. We used Ubereat to order a Shish Kabab Plate and a Kabab Mix.

I have not gone here in some time but definitely a place loved and supported by the local community and the food is great and if I remember correctly, quite affordable and by and large, pretty healthy as well. If you like Middle Eastern food and are in Tempe near ASU, this place is worth checking out and the food travels well if you want to pick up to just eat at home.

Waiter (Danny I believe his name was) super nice and the food was amazing! I got a Gyro sandwich and my husband got a Falafel sandwich. Just the right amount of food and it was amazing!

An old time place to go for lunch that cant be beat. The food is outstanding and is custom-made for each person. If you love Middle Eastern food and are on a budget this is the place to go. The hummus is fabulous and their babaganoush is very nice. Warm pitas accompany these foods and are fresh and excellent. Chicken shawarma has a good garlic sauce with it. Lambs tongue sandwich is always an excellent choice as are the side dishes. Highly recommended.

The food and service here are EXCELLENT. Order the handmade pitas and garlic sauce with ALL of the things. Im partial to the schwarma plate with salad (but if you like tabouli they will sub it for the salad), plan on about $10-$14 per plate and taking extras home. I live in WA now, but have to hit gotta place up wherever Im home to visit!

Haji-Baba has been a Tempe staple for nearly 30 years (my wifes family started going here in the early 90s).It is a great place to get a lunch or dinner that doesnt disappoint and is easily on the wallet too.

The staffs are so friendly. The food? Totally incredible! I went here twice, and it made me want to go here again and again!

Its always a treat to come here, juicy meats, great food, hospitable staff. Love their baba ganoush and lamb dishes. Their tea and coffee are worth a try too, compliments very well with the food.

My husband took me here because it was were he first had a gyro. Let me tell you... AMAZING!! Bug chuncks of meat...super stuffed really yummy. I was getting full from just half the gyro and I didnt even get a combination plate. The staff was great kind and helpful. I would definitely be going back.

This was my first time here. Got the chicken kabobs. Great flavor cooked well. The salad was crispabs the dressing had bold tasty flavor. Will definitely come back again.

Only, thing I remember having there is rice and salad in the gyro plate, literally 6 to 7 small slices of meet. And I even had to order extra salad for 3 more bucks I think because even the salad was less. ☹️I feel like people feed there dog more than this.

This place was cool. I had no idea it existed mostly because Tempe is off my radar living in North Scottsdale. I learned about it when Mijana was open but not really. Another customer in Mijana recommended it, and his party also headed here when we werent served at Mijana. So it was a wonderful substitute!The food was great, the prices were reasonable. The food came out quickly. It also has a little store attached to it, which is where you pay. Everything in the store is imported (including Dairy Milk and Milka Chocolate which is what I bought. Yum!) Im very happy to have learned of this cool little place.

My son-in-law and I dined there. The food was so incredibly fresh. I’ve both eaten and cooked a lot of falafel, and feel qualified to say this was the BEST falafel I’ve ever had. The outside had the perfect crispy outer crust without being overly oily. The inside is moist and “perfectly” seasoned. I can’t stop wondering how they accomplished the perfect crunch without overcooking the inside. The aroma of the generous amount of fresh parsley they use in their recipe can be smelled as the crust breaks, and gives the inside a beautiful green tint. They were served on a bed of lettuce and grilled tomato slices, then drizzled with homemade sesame sauce. We had the $17 Kabab plate for two and added a side order of falafel. The Kababs were delicious and tender too.I insisted on telling the chef how pleased I was with the falafel. His humble and shy response was endearing. He doesn’t appear to know how talented he is. Refreshing experience all around!

Probably the best Middle Eastern food around the area. I have been here more than once during my stay in Arizona and I will probably come here anytime I come back. The food and the service were really great. They multiple kinds of baklava that I liked. I highly recommend this place. Authentic 👍🏽

Great place to sit down and have a meal. Prices are very low and affordable. The only downside would be the noise. During lunch hour its very busy and very very loud due to that. Otherwise service was quick and food was soooo delicious. Im coming back for sure.Theres also a store to buy some things from the middle East I think.

Low key, small “hold in the wall” kind of vibe but the food was incredible! Some of the best chicken shawarma I’ve ever had. Pita, hummus, and baklava were also delicious. Price was very reasonable - we got a plate, wrap, side, and 2 pieces of baklava for $23, with some leftovers to take home. Will definitely be back!

I have been eating here for 35 years the best most consistent healthy delicious food.The owners and cooks and wait staff are always so kind and courtesy.

Definitely a little bit disappointed. My husband and I both got the beef shawarma plate. Fortunately, It came with a ton of food. Unfortunately, the beef was almost painfully dry. Service was a little slow, which isnt a big deal for me, but there was only one other table with guests and they waited even longer to get boxes for their left overs. Probably wont be back.

Ive been coming here for years. I buy nearly all of my spices and dried beans and always pick up my Greek yogurt and olives here.The restaurant might not look like much, but the food is on point. Never had a bad meal here. They also serve coffee here too, made traditionally (not your standard American cup of joe)

This place is definitely a hidden gem of Tempe. My partner and I were craving Mediterranean food and while we had heard Haji Baba was the place to go, the food surpassed our expectations by far. The shish Kebab was so tender, perfectly cooked, flavorful and juicy. As I write I am still savoring how perfect the meal was. We also ordered two gyros which were excellent as well. The Greek salad was substantial and great to share. The yogurt salad paired really well with the gyros and shish kebab. We also shared dolmas, tabbouleh and hummus and pita bread of course. Everything was fresh and beautifully plated. Staff was very friendly and offered great service. Even though they were busy our server was still very attentive. Overall, we had a delightful experience and are looking forward to being regular patrons.

My family loves Haji-baba. Their food is always fresh and delicious. The falafel is my favorite. My son now lives in NYC, and everytime he visits, the 1st place he wants to go is Haji-Baba. And my husband, who loves to cook(lucky me) buys many of his spices there.

Very disappointed rice wasn’t in my full Kabob Plate. As an experienced middle eastern dinner/man with very simple taste; the lack of rice leads me to recommend an exceptional, much more delicious option called Green Corner. This restaurant actually puts RICE in their plate and their portions are huge. Their to-go boxes are also more respectable and aren’t nasty styrofoam. Speaking of styrofoam I actually realized that part of my box melted as a result of the Kabob being placed directly into the styrofoam plate instead of being on something like rice...

A very cost effective lunch and dinner options restaurant. It serves a variety of kabobs and shawarma. Their Irani tea is pretty popular and people like it. The chicken and rice were cooked perfectly and service is good. You may also purchase any Mediterranean grocery if you like.

Great food and prices, their amounts are decent and their hummus is really delicious and I know my hummus. Plates come with rice, salad and hummus even the yogurt salad! Also their waiters are respectful and welcoming and there is a grocery store there as well how convenient.

Im from Tucson and was in the area to meet out of town relatives. We decided on Haji-Baba based on all the great reviews. Ill start by noting that theres a small Mediterranean grocery attached, and it has a really fantastic selection of Mediterranean items. Im not going to lie, I left with a couple bags of stuff prior to heading back home. Cant wait to cook up a couple dishes.Okay, so on to my meal. The restaurant itself is fairly small and casual. The staff was very friendly. The menu had a good selection of dishes and I thought the prices were very reasonable. My food was delicious. I had the chicken shawarma plate. All 3 of us had really generous portions. Did I mention how good the food was? Seriously, if I lived closer Id be a regular.Highly recommend this place.

It’s just the best restaurant in Tempe. Food is consistently delicious, extremely affordable, friendly/attentive staff and a great market. Make sure to tip them well, they truly deserve it. Some places are twice as expensive and not as good. I brought a friend from Tel Aviv a few years ago and he was nearly brought to tears when he told me how it reminded him so much of his favorite markets at home.

Apparently gyro plate means deconstructed gyro, and with a total pittance of pita (lol) too! I was a bit miffed at that. Credit where credits due, the shawarma/kebab meat was fantastic and the tzatziki was flavorful. I just wish it was a bit more balanced.Side note: walk to the front counter to order takeout, the seats are for dine-in only. The signage was confusing.

Some of the best middle eastern food I’ve ever had. The Falafel was amazing, shawarma was so greatly seasoned and the pistachio baklava was the icing on the cake. Service was great and so much better than we could have hoped for. We hope to be back on our next vacation to Arizona.
