I absolutely love this place. If you are a little uppity, may not be for you. This is a place run by the locals that have been there all my life. The river is gorgeous. The wildlife, especially the birds, are amazing. Its not uncommon to see Bald Eagles. Hell we saw an Osprey the time before last. Water depth and wind direction are critical to planning. Dont go if river is below 7 to 7.5 deep at the bridge. You will have to push a bit and the ride down requires more effort. Also note if depth is above 9, you will fly downstream. Kinda takes some of the fun out of it. If the wind is blowing south to north, you will have to work to get downstream. Just know your limitations when it comes to exertion and heat exposure. Bring plenty of water, a couple sandwiches, and some snacks (crackers, chips, etc). Leave the phone at home and come check out for a day or two. Its damn near a spiritual experience. Only thing I ask is please leave it the way you found it. I want my kids to be able to enjoy it the way I have so please clean up after yourselves. Oh yeah, great fishing and nobody is gonna say a word to you once you are floating so be sure to relax however you typically do. There are VERY few places in the world I would rather be. Go see it for yourself! Hell, I may see ya there!

The transport guys are nice and attentive and do their job well. However the ladies who run it are a little much. It was a very sub par float, the Chattahoochee is MUCH better and worth the drive or the Ocmulgee river near Macon. Both wayyy better. This float is 15$ with or without a float which is absolutely crazy. The float took 30 minutes if you don’t find a place to stop and hang and there are hardly any places to just stop and “hang”Honestly 2/5 stars is very kind rating because 0 outta 10 recommend.

I thought for sure the people that had come before me with one stars were wrong, and the five star people had to be right. I thought there is no way that this local business actually shakes you down for money. I thought this place is beautiful and peaceful, and wonderful. And it was - on Friday night - until Saturday morning - after check out - after pack up - when we were shook down for more money. The long of the short is we checked in at the same time we checked out. We checked in Saturday around 11 because the male owner was unable to check us in on Friday night when we arrived. We were only staying Friday night so we paid for Friday night at the time we checked in and checked out Saturday morning - again, around 11, a little after 11. We headed back to camp, finished packing up, and wheels up at 1. We were then blocked in by the male camp owner who wanted an additional $14.00 for 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. Reminder, we checked out after 11. That was the time to ask for a late fee. I agreed to pay the late fee. I expressed we would never return. The male owner then pushed me on my shoulder and stated he didnt want my money. Physically touched my body. Im an open minded, free spirited, life long camper, and overall adventurer - and I strongly recommend you do not give this business your business.

Camp sites are very unkempt and very disorganized. Including Goat Mt sites. Very unprofessional and GREEDY! Some friends stayed there a couple of day earlier and paid one price. Those same friends and I went back and paid $15 more per person. There is so much more on how epically these people fail. In short way over priced river nazis.

Robbery!! Not a good experience paid 10 bucks to park and 6 to drag our kayaks up the hill. One of which they wouldnt pull we had to carry after we had paid. One of my fellow kayakers left his keys at the other vehicle where we put in and we were told we had to pay an additional 25 dollars to catch a ride back to Sprewell Bluff with them. Which we didnt have because our wallets were in that vehicle also. Not friendly here either. We will use the public ramp on the other side from here on out.

ALWAYS A FANTASTIC OUTDOOR EXPERINCEI have had the great pleasure of visiting the Flint River Outdoor Center for over 30 years. During this time I have thoroughly enjoyed camping, canoeing, rafting and even tubing on the beautiful pristine Flint River hundreds of times. Their well maintained, top of the line, canoes, kayak, rafts and camping equipment is exceeded only by the quality of their friendly, knowledgeable and professional staff. Jim and Margie McDaniel, the owners for more than thirty years, truly demonstrate the meaning of “Southern Hospitality”, are always on hand to provide a courteous family oriented atmosphere and assure an enjoyable river trip or pleasant camping experience. In fact, Jim McDaniel has been published in outdoor magazines for his knowledge and experience on the Flint River and is always willing to share his experience with the guests.Being a lifelong outdoor enthusiast, I have rafted, canoed, or kayaked most the rivers in the Southeast and found the routes serviced by Flint River Outdoor Center provide an outstanding outdoor experience for everyone. From the fairly gentle, shorter runs to equipped overnight canoeing trips and, my favorite, the half day trip form Sprewell Bluff is just right for a perfect day of sightseeing, picnicking and fishing with just enough “whitewater” (class I and II), to keep it interesting. Some days I enjoy a simple “laid-back” float fishing trip and often succeed in catching large bass, catfish or brim. For my more adventurous, thrill seeking, days I ask the staff to outfit me for the Po Biddy trip over Yellow Jacket shoals, one of the exciting class III+ runs. Regardless of the trip I select, I can always count on a smiling face to carry me back to the lodge. Also, for an outstanding camping experience by RV or tent I found that Flint River Outdoor Center provides beautiful riverfront sites at a very reasonable rate. From full RV hookups to very secluded tent sites nestled in the woods, they provide it all and more. The amenities include a friendly lodge, game room, full service store, a beautiful island “beach” for swimming, and more. Finally, I must add, that whenever I have guests who enjoy the outdoors, for over three decades I have been bringing them to Flint River Outdoor Center, where I can always share a fantastic outdoor experience thanks to the simply wonderful ownership and staff.

Awesome river. Save your money and use the public take out across the river. I will from now on. Terrible outfitter. Not even an outfitter. Just a store and a take out. They have the monopoly on river take outs here. Literally the only take out service on this river. This gives rise to a plethora of bad practices evident here. Cigarette smoking in your own business is soooo 1974. Stop it. Its a family business and they tolerate poor service and attitudes from family member employees. The place is not well kept or clean. The prices are exorbitant mark ups on cheap WalMart items. The shuttle vehicles look like Mad Max and Dukes of Hazzard rejects. I seriously question the safety of the van I rode in, especially the brakes going down the hill at Sprewell Bluff. That hill is no joke and theres a big river at the bottom. Not the way I want to go into the river today. I guess thats why the van said DODGE on the front.

The Flint River was running at 5,280 cfs today, and three of us had decided we were running it. We loaded kayaks and gear and headed to FROC to park and use their shuttle to go up to Sprewell Bluff for put in.When we arrived at FROC, with whitewater kayaks on the truck (Liquidlogic, Dagger, Pyranha ), and the lady working there met us outside in the parking field. I requested a shuttle for three to Sprewell Bluff, and she replied Nobodys going down the river today. They had to do a search and rescue yesterday. That kind of hit me wrong. First, she doesnt own the river. She doesnt get to control who gets on it. Second, the search and rescue has absolutely nothing to do with either Us or Today. Finally, we gave her a pleasant goodbye and went to Sprewell Bluff to check things out at the put in.At the Bluff, we met a group of kayakers preparing to put in, they invited us to join their group and we did! It was an awesome day, with the river running strong and wide at 10 feet, we had a great time. Bear in mind, we were an Experienced, Safety trained group with an organized trip plan. This reduced the risk of our trip greatly. IF YOU LACK THE EQUIPMENT OR TRAINING DONT TRY THIS RIVER AT 10.BEST PART: The search and rescue? FROC sent customers out in a cheap quality (Pelican) canoe with a hole in it. I spoke to eyewitnesses who tried to help the hapless souls (who survived, unharmed) that rented an unsafe boat from FROC. If the employees at FROC knew anything, they could have surmised accurately from our kayaks and gear that we have sufficient kayaking know- how.Im glad they turned down our $24 shuttle money. Our new found friends had already set shuttle on river left, at the public take out, just across river from FROC. Life is good.
