Love visiting Troy when I am in the area visiting family and friends. I had a bowl of the delicious roasted red pepper and tomato soup. This was followed by the most amazing lemon scone served with cream and jam. They have have sandwiches, quiche, salad, scones and a wide variety of teas both hot and iced!
This place is a tea lovers paradise! Visited for a Friday brunch and ordered a green tea and The Legendary Afternoon Tea, which came with a Ratatouille and Goat Cheese Sandwich, a Chicken Cobb Salad and a Peaches and Cream Crepe. The food was decent. Liked the option to sit outside when the weather is nice.
I always brushed this spot off as just a tea shop but its way more than that. Some of the best food Ive have in months! Their menu has something for everyone. I was pleased with the moisture of the savory scone-wich. I recommend getting on of the towers so you get a mini 3 course meal. I loved that I was able to purchase sample sizes of their wide variety of teas. I cant wait to go back.
(Troy Location)My boyfriend and I picked date popsicle sticks and one was go to a sit down coffee shop I wanted somewhere cool and welcoming. Im more a tea person so this instantly caught my eye.The environment was perfect, low lights, welcoming, amazing ceilings, all around, very cool place. We had to wait probably no more than 5 minutes for a seat, which was totally fine for us. The front counter lady was very nice. Once we sat down we were greeting by our waiter (I cant remember their name but they were VERY nice and very sweet. They did I believe have a little tufted of pink hair, if that helps!)The food was super good, he had the Chipotle chicken panini and I had the turkey, cranberry, bri panini. Both were very good, I felt mine could use more cranberry or perhaps stuffing would of been really good too! Or a cranberry mayo would of been good too! But overall, very good. The carrort cake was AMAZING. Texture was perfect, moist, and the icing was perfect. So good. Not too sweet at allI love how you get legit tea cups. The metal tea containers they bring to you table had about 3 cups worth of tea which was amazing. My boyfriend got the mango passionfruit cold tea and it was super good!We didnt feel rushed at all. Just all over a very good experience. When even still there we were saying how wed love to come back for breakfast one day snd for a night-time tea, coffee or hot chocolate.Very inclusive menu, lots of really great choices and selections. Cant wait to go back again!
An absolutely delightful experience. Theres no place better in Troy to sit down and have a relaxing meal. They have a large variety of sandwiches, crepes (my personal favorite), and other different brunch and dinner options. They also have what they are best known for, an entire section of the menu is dedicated to tea. Standard green teas and earl Grey teas as well as a variety of herbal blends. It is truly a one of a kind experience that I recommend to anyone who comes and visits Troy.
The selection of Tea is fantastic. From straight cut to herbal blend there is something for everyone. They have a good selection of Tea paraphernalia, and the food is incredible. If youve never been its a dining experience that will delight you from appetizer to dessert.Ive personally tried just about everything on the menu. And youd be smart to follow suit.
Had a scone wich, sounded like a bad idea. Tasted much better than expected. Scones did make the sandwich dry. It is possible to use your hands, jam on top isnt a problem, but use fork and knife. Sconewich came sliding apart. Sides were just a bag of lays chips, order soup.Friend had something to the effect of macaron rasberry special tea. He gave it 2 stars, said it tasted like kool-aid. My arnold palmer tasted fine.Lemonade is good if u like sour.
What a great place! Everything a tea lover could want, and delicious food as well. That dessert crepe was decadent. I also appreciated that our server was so friendly and was also masked, and the restaurant had nice high ceilings and good table separation.
Good Asian salad and a great French press of decaf. Comfy seating. All around good place.
Food was great, and they have a very nice selection of teas. You can choose from a sample pack or a bigger pack. The staff was wonderful answering any questions and they were so polite and on top of things.
Taste like store bought cake your best bet is little Pecks! While reading the reviews I see bosses blaming staff when they should be nothing but supportive towards them. Instead I am told by a brave employee that the BOSS told them to say They dont know how long the wait will be. Then Blames their employees in the reviews, UNREAL. You dont have to be friends to get along but show your employees some respect then worry about the food.
The tea flight is 12 bucks and you choose 4 teas. Such a great deal and the tea is lovely too. This location is huge and would be a great place to have a meeting. Its a sit down kinda place with tables not a lounging(with mood lighting and couches) cafe but still awesome! Great place to catch up with friends, family, or Co workers . Harder to find parking but you can walk over. Tons of businesses near by to shop at before and or after going.
This tea food shop is adorable. Great beverages and tasty treats. Somewhere to definitely go to when in Troy.
Great spot for a pick me up drink or a quick bite! They also serve high tea which is such a delight! Love the ambiance, the food, and the servers have always been incredibly kind.
The staff is actually really rude. The food is good, a little overpriced, but you are supporting a small business. The waitresses need to be trained on how to wait their customers. They seem to want to kick all customers out after 30-minutes. You cannot enjoy a nice meal here or have a nice discussion with the friends. This is a nice place if you are in and out. The ambience is not great.I was here with my best friend and we both agreed that the customer service is terrible.
As always, the Whistling Kettle is a favorite. Im deeply in love with Red Pepper soup. The staff is handling shortages with grace and tact. Kudos.
Stopped by this long-time favorite on our way out of town last weekend. Fairly busy, but things initially seemed to be working. I ordered a quiche, while my spouse selected an “afternoon tea” platter. After our drinks arrived, we waited for the main course. And waited, and waited. After an hour of trying to patiently understand what might be going on, we noticed three other tables, all of whom had been seated well after us, were getting their food. We both went to the front desk. I leaned in and told the two staff members that I was not about to make a scene, but, “I want to know where the hell our food is.” The staff apologized, and told us we could wait 10 minutes for the manager to come speak to us (she was working the kitchen), or we could just end our visit with no money changing hands, and no hard feelings. We took the first option, and waited a little longer. The manager came out and personally delivered our order, apologizing for the delay. When we pointed out the jarring discrepancy between the speed of our order with that of the surrounding tables, she calmly explained that some foods take longer to prep than others. We accepted this at face value, even though we did not completely believe her explanation for the items we ordered. We ate our lunch, no longer enjoying the experience one bit, and the original server delivered our check, trying to smile, but clearly frustrated. This is a heartbreaking review for me to write, because the original Ballston Spa location was a favorite of my entire family, including my late mother. Furthermore, I’ve always been patient with service issues, and understand that everyone, and even an entire restaurant, can have a bad day. But this went so far beyond that, I simply cannot remain silent. I hope that Whistling Kettle finds its way back, or else I will NEVER eat there again.
The Monte Cristo savory crepe. Amazing!! This place never dissapoints.
I always thought tea drinkers more friendly than coffee drinkers. The one star for Whistling Kettle is that they reminded me the danger of stereotyping. This restaurant is disappointing in customer service and taste. We came for Mother’s Day and were horribly disappointed by the service and food. When we arrived they said it would be a 40 minutes wait. After 45 minutes we went back to check and they said it would be 1.5 hours. The food ended up being mediocre and overpriced. Maybe this type of establishment did well when there weren’t others. But Troy has so many great lunch places now. Your money is best spent elsewhere.
Delicious roasted red pepper amazing crepes to die for great atmosphere
Visited with my girlfriend for brunch. The waitress was really nice, and the food was great! Will stop in again next time Im in Troy.
FOOD was delicious & Fresh. Loved the greens & Greek dressing. Plus, my driver Marc got here super quick..Will definitely order again.
Cozy place with great food, wide selection of tea, and decent coffee. You cam even get some loose leaf tea or coffee beans to go. This is a place for relaxing (i.e. not fast food).
The crepes were really good. I had lavender hot chocolate drink that first came cold and I had to order a new one that came hot and was good. Nice tea selection to buy.
Scones!!!! The scones and dipping cream with jam are incredible. Staff was friendly and helpful.
Love to stop in this cozy tea for a cuppa and bite when Im in Troy. We sat is a lovely booth facing the street just in time to witness a rather violent rainstorm. The food is excellent, the atmosphere very comfortable, service was attentive, and, of course, the tea selection was perfect. Reasonable prices, lot of goodies for home and gifts. Check it out next time youre in Troy. Youll love it!
Amazing food. Amazing atmosphere! The teas are fantastic!!!! They also sell the teas in a little store in the front! I can not wait to try the tea that I got!!! They have GF(gluten free) food too! I got the cob salad, my mom got a GF ham sandwich, and my sister got lobster bisque and a savory crepe sandwich. Everyone loved the meal. If you are in troy, or Schenectady, or Balston Spa. Please please please go to the Whistling Kettle. You will not be disappointed!!!
Loved it. Many things to try on the menu.
I really enjoyed my food and the atmosphere. The tea was good and my wine slushi was really good! It wasnt busy--I went on a weekday after the lunch rush.
The tea and coffee are delicious. The red pepper Gouda soup is amazing (better with some bread or chips to dip in it as its an intense flavor). The sandwiches and crepes were interesting but a little bland. I got a BLT scone sandwich which had all the right parts but was pretty flavorless. My wife got a crepe which was basically the same situation, and the crepe itself was a little too tough for my taste.
Everything was delicious, the teas, the wine, the Asian salad was famazing, and the crepes are a must!
Amazing food, really cool tea and coffee selection, friendly service and dog friendly.
Always a fantastic experience, and so attentive no matter how busy they are.
Cozy, friendly place with vegan and gluten free options. Best of all, service was awesome!
Excellent service. Our waiter was very attentive. The food was amazing with great flavor
Great service and atmosphere. Had the afternoon tea plate which is a great value.scones particularly good... not hard or dry.
I’ll start by saying a love the whistling kettle. I do prefer the ballston spa location over the troy location. This is based on atmosphere. I typically feel more rushed at the troy one and the staff is a bit more impatient. The food is truly fantastic and I am a big fan of their smoked Gouda soup and scones. The tea and coffee selection is really great and in the warmer months the bottomless iced tea is awesome. All that being said I am still bummed that after many years they chose to take away the tea part of the afternoon tea tower. The price stayed the same but it no longer includes a tea or coffee. It was nice when it was a whole package.
Don’t order online from this place 30 mins to and hour from closing. I got a sandwich with undercooked bacon and the meat and cheese looked like it was just slapped on the bread and looked like a total mess. The soup was more watery than the half way unfrozen smoothie. This place is usually very consistent and good. But after this very damaging experience, I will no longer be attending this restaurant anytime in the near future. They mine as well mug me on the street, take all of my money, and then just throw a Cumberland farmers deli sand which on my body laying on the sidewalk. To conclude this very disappointing and dissatisfying meal, to get the quality and reassurance you want from a restaurant, don’t order online before closing time. I rest my case.Citizen of Troy, NY
Always a wonderful experience. The food was excellent and the selection of teas is expansive.
Great atmosphere and the workers seemed friendly enough. Their soups are delicious, their tea is amazing, and their desserts are out of this world! They also have an option to get a soup or salad with a main food item and a dessert all stacked in tiers and its brilliant! BE CAREFUL if you have allergies to nuts though. Ask what nuts are in the food, because the menu didnt always specify. Also check your food too, because I asked for them to take the nuts out of my meal and they did not. I had to ask an additional 2 times for them to remove the nuts from my food.
Beautiful assortment of teas. Filling, well-made food.
She got tea and I coffee. A sip here of each along the way is euphoria.... ... ... ... ...I stopped going here after one bland experience. I guess it depends on the chef, but was so impressed by the farmers crepe. The next visit it didnt do anything for me. I will return but dont know when.... .... .... .... ....So Ive returned and the mushroom crepe was exceptional! So many teas to try
Used to love ordering food from this place. They decided to switch to spoton for a online service which is just horrendous. Probably not going to order again from them.
Only stopped by for drinks. Huge tea selection and tea flights available! A few varieties of hot chocolates to choose from as well. After browsing the menu we will definitely be stopping by for food sometime. Lots of GF options marked on the menu. 4 stars because service was quite slow and it wasn’t very busy.
The brunch-crepes and scones in particular-is excellent and the tea selection is unparalleled.
This place is so cute and so nice to come enjoy a meal with someone, or even come to study. Their food is fresh and delicious, and they have so many flavors of tea you never get bored. I also have been to a bridal shower here, which they used their back room for, and it was fantastic. Also, during the summer, the outdoor seating is so nice to enjoy.
Nice atmosphere and drinks definitely skimp on the foods portions are very small
The first time I went here I was truly amazed at the shop itself. The food was served quickly and tasted amazing. The teas all smelled wonderful and I honestly couldnt decide on which one to get. Everyone was so polite and kind there. I got a good laugh off of the shirts as well. I go here every so often because it is truly a wonderful place.
Delicious teas and refreshingly different foods 😋
Not a great place to go if you’re in a hurry, even for take out.Visiting a friend in Albany we ordered pick up online before my train. The order said it would take 20 mins to be ready so we arrived about 25 minutes after and ordered a cup of tea to go with it. The food didn’t come out for another 15 minutes, I even explained to one of the staff that I needed to leave. I ended up missing my train and having to pay for a new ticket.Worst of all when we sat down to eat it later we realized the order was completely wrong for my food, I had ordered the ratatouille and goat cheese panini and instead received something labeled as “ratatouille crepe” but it had sausage in it (which neither the crepe or the panini on the menu have). I was very disappointed by this.In the end I wouldn’t recommend this restaurant if you’re in a rush but if they get your order correct the food is very good (my friend loved hers) and they have a wide tea selection. I give 2 stars based on my experience, though had the order been correct and on time I would’ve rated higher.
Great aesthetic, diverse and interesting food and teas. Delivery, carry out, and dine in. Love it.
A cozy atmosphere with super friendly service, delicious food, and a fantastic selection of beverages.
Best coffee. Stale carrot cake
Service was extremely slow, even after we told them we had waited 39nminutes and had no one take an order. Also the drinks were underwhelming, and one of the plates came incorrect.
First of all, go to The Whistling Kettle. Although Im withholding the fifth star for the time being, its not because things arent top notch there. To the contrary, every aspect of my visit was outstanding. So, whether five stars or four, I say go now, go frequently, and go excitedly. Its a gem.Second of all (is that even a thing?), were it not for a nearly-idiosyncratic rating adjustment I use, TWK would have received from me a well-earned five stars. (The adjustment provides a defensibly objective assessment of the parts of any venture that would be unacceptably subjective without it.) Perhaps even more distressing to a careful reader would be a growing realization that the adjustment would have resulted in a 5-star rating is my experience had been not quite as good as it was. (This result is rare; the adjustment tends to be neutral or to raise a rating.)Anyway, the gist of my (almost inexcusably long) introduction is that I lowered my rating because they did a really great job. Allow me to elucidate. (That definitely should NOT be a thing, even though it kinda is. Why in the hell did I select such a stilted construction? Never mind: back to TWK.)The tea selection is fairly broad and seems well curated. (Although Im no tea specialist, I have a keener interest in, and wider experience with, tea than the average American.) I ordered an individual pot of Golden Monkey. It was so generously sized that the multiple cups it held saw me not only through lunch but also dessert. I enjoyed it so much I took home a bag of it along with a bag of Scottish Breakfast. TWKs teas are top drawer in every respect. The very-sweet-but-not-too-sweet-as-a-dessert scone I had after lunch? Also incredible. It was birthday cake-flavored, which I usually think is an awful flavor for anything but its namesake. Not in this case; it was rich and delicious, spot-on and top of the heap. (Youre already wondering what top will be describe my lunch, arent you?)I had a savory vegan crêpe for my meal. It was seasonally appropriate, very filling, and delicious (no need to read that as delicious for a vegan dish, it was just straight-up tasty in every respect). Lunch was absolutely top flight (yes, flight was the answer we were looking for (RIP, Alex)).In addition to my excellent repast, my server was wonderful, the dining room was cute without being kitsch, and the sidewalk view made possible by TWKs huge, spotless, plate-glass windows provided a perfect diversion from the games on my tablet. So, you must be asking yourself, what could make me give this place less than five stars? Because just a touch more attention to detail could make this place world-class. Here I go.My crepe wasnt a crepe. It was delicious but really more of an Injera. So, change the name or get the crepe done perfectly. And the chips (advertised on the menu as kettle chips) were, in fact, Kettle Chips. In the bag. No, no, no. Open the bag and put them on the plate. They were delicious, they were an excellent choice of default side order. But not in the f*ing bag. Its just not done, as they say. And, finally, no bags in cheap aluminum pitchers for serving this level of tea. The tea was fine, but the presentation made it seem disappointing. If youre gonna serve Royal Beluga 000, dont use imitation horn spoons, get the real things. (Side note: being vegan I have an issue with both the eggs and the horn spoons, but they just made the point too well not to use.)The Whistling Kettle. Id give it 5 stars except I need to encourage them to become a destination worthy of taking the Empire Service from the City up to the wonderful Capital District just to eat and drink at. Go get em, TWK. Go get em.
Have been coming here for years. It’s been a fave. However the most recent trips have been average at best. The panini sandwiches are cold even after being pressed by a HOT panini pan. Makes no sense. Don’t recall that this was a thing until recently, per manager this is absolutely normal even though they are listed under the hot sandwich menu. And the chai latte could be better. Otherwise great drink variety and yummy desserts.
Excellent service. Food great
They are a little slow filling orders and always crowded and there is very little space in the area for parking
OK, this place would be whatever to people for their teas and cakes... But the Chai is just pathetic. They put a blend of spices with the black tea but ll you taste is a spice juice with sugar. The service is alright and the food items look good. I couldnt bring myself to try anything after tasting the Chai
This restaurant discriminates against people who can’t wear a mask.. sad times we are living in
Some of the yummiest sandwiches in Troy! Excited to get the full experience once the pandemic is no more.
The food was really good, nice atmosphere, good service and if youre a lover of tea, this place is perfect for you.
Great service good food moderately priced
Great food and tea and excellent staff. They offer curbside pickup as well.
It was good service 👏 nice staff food was delicious cant wait to try new menu items
Good food and really good quality loose-leaf tea. Im leaving 4 stars only because they dont have many breakfast options.
You must try the lobster bisque, Lemon scone, and their crepes and dont get me started with their chai and maccha teas. It was addicting. Went there both days over the weekend and sat outside where I was served by Courtney; my super friendly server who was all willing to assist me in choosing from the wide variety of tea. Superb service, great food and ambiance to make for the perfect experience. Ive found my new getaway place to run to when I need to get away from NYC
Great food and service! Reasonable prices and quantities.
Great service, great food and a lot of choices too.
Always make sure I stop here when I pass through the Troy/Albany area!
This place doesn’t need more positive reviews, but I’m going to review it anyway. Delicious food (especially love their soups, scones, and quiches), and a wide variety of tea and coffee. My boyfriend and I agree that the French press coffee was the best we ever had. I enjoyed it and I don’t even really like coffee!! Super friendly and professional waitstaff as well.
Have been to all three Kettles in the area. Each one delights. Amazing food! Just the best ever. Fresh ingredients deliciously made at reasonable prices. Recently begged them for the roasted red pepper smoked gouda soup recipe and they declined. Not surprised as its pretty unbeatable and they should keep their secrets. The teas are wonderful and large portions served with care. LOVE this restaurant. Return frequently.
Told 30 min wait and then told an hour after waiting 30min for mothers day, staff was unapologetic and would not go back.
Nice and clean place. The food was good. I had a ham, brie and apricot jam on ciabatta bread. It was good, I would prefer to taste the brie more and less the jam, and the bread warmer. The china was nice and pleasant. The meal presentation was nice. The silverware did not look impressive. Overall a nice place to grab a bite. You can find paid street parking. For lunch 1.5 hours should be enough.
A great place for brunch and to pick up some nice loose leaf tea and tea accessories.
I enjoyed a meal with my son and husband!! We shared the Asian salad, the roasted red pepper soup, and a raspberry with cream crepe. The food was delicious! Ambience was nice!
It was a nice clean place in a renovated building in downtown Troy New York.
I pretty much only come here for the quiche and the scones. Both are really good though and reasonably priced. The tea selection is also good, but I prefer Short and Stout. I like the lobster bisque. Its really good to dip your quiche crust in. I actually stopped going to the Whistling Kettle in Boston Spa do to several really rude servers. But every one at the Troy location has been really nice =)
Just discovered that Whistling Kettle has sample sizes of all their wonderful loose leaf teas so you can sample and then go back and buy more of your favorites! I also got a tea leaf diffuser on a stick that is so easy to use. Sitting at home drinking one of my faves - Jasmine pearls - yum!
The food was fantastic. My wife and I ordered a pair of crepes (one savory and one sweet) and one of their soup specials. Each of them were wonderful and well worth the prices. Our tea was also great, but we didnt steep it long enough so the flavors ended up being too subtle for our meal.
The service is almost always awesome. I went on mothers day one year and my daughter and I sat there for an hour and never got waited on. Every other time weve been there we had fast and friendly service. The food is delicious and the tea is always phenomenal. I strongly suggest this place but maybe not on mothers day. Lol
