Absolutely love Sabino Canyon! The recent monsoon has contributed to making the vegetation lush and green and the creeks are flowing. There’s a great visitor center where you can get your parking pass and information about the sights within the canyon. Highly recommend a visit on the tram or a hike if you are in Tucson.
The museum portion closed during Covid and may not be reopened. The gift shop is typical with a wide offering of souvenirs and typical gift shop pricing. Masks are currently required inside, but the staff were friendly about it.
Awesome park with great walking/biking/hiking trails. Bathrooms available as well. Nice gift shop
We were REALLY disappointed with the advice we got from the park rangers here. For your own safety, take their advice with a heavy grain of salt. When we arrived at Sabino Canyon, we could see the horizon darken with clouds. As were new to Arizona and its weather, we asked the rangers at the visitor center whether they thought it would be safe to venture out under the current circumstances, and explicitly expressed our concern about possible thunderstorms. We were told that the storm wasnt something to worry about, and that it would be safe to go on some of the larger 8 mile hikes, as long as we would turn around if it started to rain. When we started our hike, we then encountered a park official who advised us to take an alternative, unpaved road up to Anderson Dam rather than the paved street. Not long after we started our hike, all hell broke loose. It started to rain and thunder severely, and when we turned around to run back, the path began to flood very quickly. We basically raced back to the parking lot though quickly rising water, increasingly strong hail, and lighting that struck so close we could smell the singe. If we had been a bit slower to turn around, or a bit slower on our feed, the situation couldve ended much worse. We know that weather can be unpredictable, but would have expected rangers at an official visitor center to be experienced enough to warn inexperienced tourists of a very quickly approaching severe thunderstorm, and to not send them up a road that would flood in a matter of minutes once the rain started! We trusted in their judgement, and came to regret itOn a positive note, the staff was very friendly, and the store itself was nice
Grew up going here. And grew up in the area. One of my favorite Tucson places to go year round. Right now its a beautiful green because of the monsoon rains weve had. If you know about the back parking lot, its closed during the summer months. Heads up. Still lovely & peaceful.
Lose your thoughts and maybe even a few pounds...hike Sabino Canyon. So beautiful this time of year.
I hadnt been there in a very long time, but went to ride the tram. Didnt realize you had to pay for BOTH the tram ride AND for parking. Each were at seperate locations! Tram tickets by Tram but parking tickets were inside the gift shop! If you didnt go into the gift shop you would not have known you had to purchase a ticket to park. They definitely need to make it clear or someone should of been inside ticket booth as you were driving in. When walking back to my car, realized that there were only about 5-6 cars that had purchased tickets!
May be a beautiful place but “no pets allowed” is such a deal breaker. There are hardly any easily accessible well kept safe spots to go in the greater Tucson area.
Very polite staff and nice wide offerings for hikers and tourists.
This is a nice area to visit on days that arent too hot. When water is over the bridges be prepared to get shoes wet. The shuttle was a bit expensive for us. Didnt realize this was an additional fee to the $8 entry fee.
Tram ride was just perfect. Great way to see everything. Would definitely do that again. Walked part way down
Didnt go to the visitor center just hiked up the canyon and back it was a beautiful day and beautiful scenery love it
It was great a very relaxing and beautiful ride. And the gift shop had a lot variety.
Its most area was closed due to COVID-19.The refreshment machine room door was locked. So one can not use the vanding machine to get soft drink in Tucson hot summer. The washroom was clean.
Love to take the trolley tour to the top and walk down hill. Amazing views.
Hikers paradise is less than three and a half miles outside of the Tucson city limits. Well-informed rangers can put you onto an appropriately challenging trail or suggest blending several trails to meet your time needs and abilities. Even when the parking lot is full, the well-marked trails are long enough that you can trod long sections without bumping into other hikers.
Terrific place with all kinds of neat products. Very friendly and knowledgeable staff!
Beautiful gift shop. The cashier was friendly and helped me map out a hike that matched my schedule. I 💕 sabino canyon!
A beautiful, historic, and most scenic landmark destination. The trails are extensive and aptly appointed for picnics and group get-togethers of all kinds. A great place for me to get in a nice walk along with some quiet meditation.
This center was a beautiful place to visit. The tram ride up the mountain was interesting and done very well. Highly recommend this place, visitor center was very nice, lots of interesting books and gifts to purchase.
Great place to hike, walk the road or take the tram. Avoid the super hot and dry part of the year but its great pretty much any other time.
Sabino is the perfect weekend activity. Great for locals and visitors. Id recommend going in the spring or winter. If you go in the summer make sure to go early and bring lots of water - more than youd think youd need.
Great hike! Did the Phoneline! Good 3.5 hours very easy just long, Beautiful, peaceful!!highly recommend. Not a sneakers kinda a hike take hiking boots lots of water, and the usual stuff. Possibly a little snack.. :)
One of my favorite places. Shuttle takes you 4 miles to the top. You can walk down alongside the creek. Get back on anytime. Narration of the history of the canyon is enjoyable and informative. For true hikers there are lots of trail. Especially enjoyed arriving at the dam.
Great place!Could use some more/better trail labels.
Just look at all 54 of these photos and see for yourself why its amazing here!
Nice place, limited service at this time. Good books and T-shirts, limited supply. Blossoms beautiful at this time of year. Starting to get warm.
Excellent place to visit if you are around Tuscon- great escape from the city- take it easy on the trolley or take a strenuous hike through the canyon! Highly recommend!
This is a very fun and scenic trail. There are numerous trails for all skill levels.
The Sabino Canyon visitor center is operated by the national Forest service but it definitely has more of a feel of a national park with the quality of the visitor center and employees. They have shuttles to take you through the canyon with narration and you can have a nice walk back down. Really beautiful and informative.
It totally feels like the wild wild west at Sabino Canyon. The suguaro cactus are amazing. Like an old growth forest they tower to up to 40 tall. The are only found in the Sonoran Desert in Arizona and some parts of California and Nexico. It housed some of the most unique flora and fauna if the world.
We need more natural places for people to explore
Spectacular bus tour and walk. Stunning scenery.
Absolutely the best hiking trails around Tucson
Great place to hike, we started late at 10am 5-9-21 and it got a little warm. Dont rely on the drinking fountains working. Bring sun hat and drinking water. Sabino creek was pretty dry, had some water but it was not flowing.
Always a beautiful place to come to. Scenary can not be beat. We came during the week so there were not alot of people there. One downfall is that the tram service that runs you up 4 miles to the canyon head is down due to contract negotiations. We found out its been down quite a while and they do not give info when the new tram service will be put into service. It was unfortunate that we come from Indiana and we always look forward to this home into the canyon from the trailhead. Definitely not expecting an additional 8 mile hike. So with 3 kids it just wasnt possible. Please like if this review is helpful.
Great place for hiking! Beautiful trail locations and vistas to boot. Now, be prepared always. Do not underestimate or be over confident....enjoy the views and peaceful nature. Good staff on hand and helpful. Nice visitors center!
Great place.. when its open. Workers will leave after lunch sometimes. Go early, dont trust hours posted.
Great if you enjoy hiking. Also the temperature changes the further you hike,, so be mindful during some seasons of your clothing choice.
What a great place, beautiful landscape, very nice gifts, staff was wonderfully friendly, lots of great storys....
Great place to hike. One of the best spots in Tucson. I love it.
Beautiful hikes! The trails were gorgeous. There are different trails of varying difficulty, too.
Great weather and trails. Lots of people...some in masks, many not...but it is all outdoors. 8 dollars to park (day pass). The bookstore has tables and displays outside..no inside shopping. Trams are running. Bathrooms are locked, and they have j-johns with long lines. Yuck. Go before you go!!!
The visitor center is extremely helpful and informative. The park itself is gorgeous and the volunteers working their are certainly experts on the local fauna, Flora, and trail geography. Whether its your first or 50th I recommend stopping in and chatting to the attendants as they can give great advice.
If you love cacti as much as I do you’ll enjoy your hike in Sabino Canyon. We were there in January and there was this beautiful lake that was in contrast with the desert like scenery in there.
Washrooms are not currently open, but they have port-a-pottys. Makes no sense. Otherwise, Id give 5 stars.
It was such a great day with the kids
Nice little store for your memories!
Typical park visitor and gift shop. I always get a stick pin if it is my first visit
Went up to station 9 and walked back with my wife. On the way out met a wonderful lady and we shared stories which made the walk all that more enjoyable. Shared names and phone number for hopefully a lasting friendship.
Love hiking here. Several trails from beginners to highly experienced.
Friendly staff and a beautiful place to visit. The trawler is running now also!
This was a great day trip. Take the trolly to the top and either hike back(downhill) from there or any of the prior stops depending on how long you wish to hike. All paved easy strolling.
The museum is still not open, but its a great place to cool down after a day of hiking.
A large park with many hiking trails that seems to draw in a lot of national and international travelers. There is a tram system to take visitors far into the park but I didnt use it over covid concerns. The scenery didnt seem that exceptional to me but then I didnt get very far into the park. I think other parks were more attractive and not as crowded.
Needed A Beautiful Walk in Nature today! Sabino Canyon was my choice . . . being close to nature . . . Definitely a Five Star choice! Thank You Sabino Canyon employees for the cleanliness and respectful communion and guidance!
The Sabino Canyon Vistor Center is small and has what most visitor centers have. The real treat is the canyon itself. I heartily recommend taking the shuttle up the canyon. You can get off at any of the 9 shuttle stops explore the area or maybe even hike down to the creek and soak your feet in the mountain water. Wherever you get off to explore, you are able to catch the next arriving shuttle to complete your journey. Just hang on to your receipt to show the shuttle operator. If your adventurous, you can hike one of the many trails thru out Sabino Canyon. Plan ahead and prepare adequately if doing so. Most of all enjoy Gods awesome creation.
The visitor center was nice. Everything is outside due to the Pandemic but they had a nice selection of trinkets and Sabino Canyon memorabilia. The trails themselves are awesome.
Nice place to visit. Its a hike, so cant take the whole family! If youre healthy, easy. Beautiful nonetheless!!!
Beautiful park to see the desert up close. The tram is shut down right now. there are public bathroom for men and women. Great trails to walk. Parking is by the day, week.
The best time in the Canyon every time I go!!!! Went and reconnected with friends of 50 years from Ann Arbor and now Colorado. Just sitting and talking. A little hike, such a beautiful day!!! So thankful!!
Always great.
Great place for hiking or riding the tram to see the views. Saguaros are amazing. The river beds were dry this visit for me, saw all the ash deposits in the beds from recent fire in Tucson. Thanks to the Firefighters to be able to refrain the fires from burning the beautiful Sabino Canyons!
Loved this hike! The scenery was beautiful. The water was refreshing
Beautiful National Park a must see
Amazing tour. We took the shuttle 30 min going and 30 coming back. A guided ride to the top of the mountain.
I like going at night to watch and listen to the owls when they are around. One flew over my head and it was then that I realized these creatures are night hunters; simultaneously glad that I was not of interest food wise that night. The thought of its talons after witnessing such a broad wingspan was my whew moment for the night. Some nights there are so many owls about that they do not even take turns hooting. Some smaller birds have come down to the road to catch their prey while I watched them.
Beautiful place, nice introduction to Sabinoo Canyon and helpful information. Thank you Sabino Canyon Staff, Volunteers and Park Rangers!
Beautiful place. Love how they are making things accessable during covid. Was a great place to explore.
Beautiful..take the tram! Its fun!
Great day for hiking. The trails are easy and enjoyable for a nature walk. My disabled family member had no trouble walking. This was our 2 trip and would go again
Sabino Canyon is one of the natural gems of Tucson. The visitor center has a lot of interesting info and hands on examples of the local habitat. Good for a 10 minute explore before your hike in the canyon.
Hiking trails are gorgeous 😍 if you havent gone then you should even if you dont like hiking you can sit there and meditate take in the beauty of this world in its most natural state
Ventana Canyon trail from the resorts employee parking lot.
I sent in to buy a park pass and the employees were very helpful and friendly
Beautiful place. Steven really gave us good advice on what to do for our family with littles and told us some interesting things to look for. Thanks! Definitely recommend!
Beautiful experience. Took the tram to the top, hiked, and walked back down. Allow several hours for the best experience.
Really nice trails the visitor center is wellinformed
