Shibori Dragon has the most beautiful fabrics!! Their selection changes continually, so there are always plenty of new things to discover and fall in love with! Best of all, Becky (the owner) is so helpful and accommodating. Shes amazing!!!! I always say that customer service is more important than product, but at Shibori Dragon, you get the best of both worlds!! If you havent been there, GO!!! Oh! And dont forget to ask about their secret compartments! What you see when you walk in is only a fraction of what is actually there. I know that sounds weird, but trust me! There are hidden compartments with treasures everywhere!! Its so highly organized and brilliantly resourceful! I love buying locally, and this place is by far my favorite of all the local small businesses. Again, if you havent been there, GO!!!!!

My friend and I had heard about this shop, so took a drive to University Place, to see it. We loved it! Both of us found this to be such a warm, friendly, and helpful place to shop. It may be a small space but everything very well laid out. We will be back.

I really like their new store! A little tricky to find (dont trust your maps, it had me turn a little early from the direction I was coming - there was an intersection coming - Idve used it!) BUT had a great time and a great discussion at the store!

I discovered Shibori Dragon online. I live in Costa Rica and placed my order using their online catalogue and by telephone (the telephone to make special delivery arrangements.) The owner helped me and was quick, professional, informative and kind, all of this while she was in the midst of being descended on by hordes of customers on a shop hop. Great selection of Japanese fabrics at decent prices in an easy to use online shop. Lucky quilters who live nearby!

The best in Tacoma. The very best and most complete array of Sashiko supplies I have ever joyfully encountered! Beautiful fabrics including batiks & indigos. The owners are friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. I hope to take one of her Sashiko classes in future.

What a great place! While its clear even by the name that it has a theme, they have a great selection of products. A little bit of this and a little bit of that. Customer service was superb, the gentleman helping us was very sweet and knowledgeable. He even showed us around making sure we didnt miss any of the great stuff they offer while we picked up our ROW-BY-ROW. They have marvelous Japanese artifacts and techniques specific to the Japanese culture. I loved their sales as well. Going through the discount items was very fun and they had a little bit of everything on sale, so it was a fun (hard not to buy prices) scavenger hunt for new projects and supplies. We will definitely be making the drive to go back and visit this shop again in the near future.

They have the BEST selection of the most luscious fabric out there. While theyre known for their asian fabrics, they have lots of others as well; vintage, batik, etc. Its well worth the trip to their shop, and the staff are very helpful.

Im a double below knee amputee, and my prosthestist was casting me new stump-cups....she said I could have any designs I wanted, all I had to do is provide her with fabric that had the selected design .As I am about to embark on a cruise ending up in Japan, I was seeking a Japanese theme...so found my way to Shibori Dragon.Gorgeous designs, great pricing and fabrics arrived here in Australia in 2 weeks.I highly recommend these folk, I am posting some pics so you all can see how they turned out

I come to this store for quilt shop hop and the Row by Row Experience once every couple of years, and am reminded of why I usually skip it. They are too expensive. The RxR kits are $25, and dont include the embellishments (like beads, buttons, and hot fix crystals) they use on the example quilts are additional, and usually also pricey for what you get. To give you an idea of comparable kids at other shops, I am paying an average price of about $14 for kits with as much or more fabric with embellishments included. In order to complete a row by row quilts at shibori dragons prices, a quilter would have to pay somewhere between $250 and $300 for a lap sized quilt. While their patterns are often very cute, I dont see the value of the design being worth twice as much as other shops. Additionally, the prior Years rxr patterns are $10 or more at this shop. When I compare this to the $2 to $5 I pay at most other shops, I feel like they are simply taking advantage.I will say that this year the shop hop block was $5 and included a really cute whale. I really love a lot of the fabric and patterns that Shop sells, but after coming for shop hop, or row by row, I choose to buy the things I liked in other quilt shops, where I feel more like a valued customer and less like a victim.Edit: The shop owners response pretty much solidifies my decision not to visit this shop again. I have collected at least a hundred kits from 20 states, and they ALL have quality brand name quilting fabrics in them. Many of them do also include embellishments, and the vast majority of them are original, well thought-out patterns. The response given to this review was dismissive of my comments, weirdly misleading (the only Pink Sand Beach Designs I know of is in California, doesnt participate in RxR as far as I know, and is primarily a purse pattern designer, so why are they relevent here?), and insulting to the many other shops who both offer good quality and good value, and do just as much work as this one. Of the 16 kits I have purchased in Washington this week, most have original fusibles, and at least three also cut the other kit pieces and not one was more than $20 . Many of the shops I have collected regularly over the last 10 years also offer a custom fusible every year, some have several and none of them are as expensive as this one. Additionally, part of the activity of RxR is to make a quilt with 8 different rows, and be the first to turn it in to get a prize. Kits greatly increase the chance of winning, and the shops know this. So they can take the path of offering a reasonably priced kit, or they can do what Shibori Dragon does. There is certainly nothing that makes these kits so much more special that they justify such a significant price differential. With regard to die cuts, it might be true that there were additional production expenses, but its a choice for the shop to do this not a required expense, and I would argue that its just a way to justify driving up the price of the kits, and a rather unfriendly one, since the pattern is supposed to be reproducible without the kit and laser cuts and custom die cuts make that much more difficult. That isnt really a plus.

Spending is a joy here and I live on a very tight budget. I used to go out of my way to their original location and when they moved to U.P. I celebrated. This small store is packed floor to ceiling with fabrics and materials you simply will not find anywhere else. Joining their (free) membership means regular offers of free fat quarters or chunky discounts off purchases. While it is a draw that their theme is Japanese fabrics and sewing kits, crafts and tools, it is even better that you will find things in Shibori Dragon that you are not going to find within the next 50 miles. Vintage fabrics, how-to-kits, patterns, knotwork, silks, and amazing prints are here as well as clearance items and impressive demonstration items like completed bento box bags or quilt block packets. The store has a judicious eye for color and it shows. This is not like going to JoAnns or Michaels (much as I love them). This is a specialized labor of love and fiber artists are encouraged to go here. The prices are dead-reasonable and I enjoy picking through their clearance baskets as Ive managed to find that perfect gift several times.Go and bring a friend because we know friends dont judge your artistic indulgences. They just enable.
