My husbands favorite sandwhich is a Reuben. His 40 yr quest for a good one has ended.Everything on it is fresh and most homemade. The kraut is out of this world. 5 stars does not do it justice!. Any Reuben fans out there must give it a try.
Always ordered our bday cakes from this family own deli. Never disappointed. Price is reasonable.
The Apple strudel was spectacular!I called ahead to ensure they had the strudel and there were 2 left so I had them hold it for me. It was busy when I arrived and only 1 person making sandwiches etc. She had her husband get the strudel ready it took about 20 minutes and it was warm when he gave it to me. Very friendly couple completing orders.
Love the old school European deli. Fresh sandwiches, sausage plates and specialties.
They were open a few minutes before posted time. The sandwiches were delicious. We bought slab bacon and they cut it extra extra thick, per our request! The pastries and cookies also good and the black forest cake was the best!!
Family owned and full of charm-and sass if you are asking for it
Friendly owners, great food. Drove 30 miles to try this German deli. Were happy with all we ate and the items we brought home. We will be back.
Always excellent service and food...
Glad to see it was still open. Food was delicious and the wurst was tasty.
Old deli with ok food but good price
Awesome German delicatessan experience! Yummy foods and great gifts too!
Absolutely love this deli. The Yorkshire dip is my favorite sandwich. I visit this deli every time Im in town. Coming here reminds me of my grandmother and Dad.
Excellent sausages, sandwiches and desserts. I recommend the Reuben sandwich its to die for yummy potato salad and sauerkraut too. Best lunch Ive had in a long time and the prices cant be beat.Danke, es hat sehr gut geschmeckt 😊
Its ok if you dont mind spending some money💰, Took my mom there to check it out. WOW 😳 crazy high prices.. wont be making that drive again..
I love this place and have been coming here for years. If you want to taste authentic German food, this is the place for you. Run by the same family.
Bought several bottles of Hefe Weizen and they forgot to put 2 in my bags. Not happy
Words cant describe how much I love this place
Wonderful little shop with some favorites from Germany! Be sure to order ahead for the hard rolls, they run out fast!
Amazing potato salad & fresh sandwiches, nice ambiance and the owners greet you with a friendly smile. Very kind people!
I have been searching local stores for Thuringer to give my father as a gift. This shop is great. It offers an amazing assortment of genuine German meats and sausages as well as breads and pastries. The woman who helped us was friendly, welcoming, and knowledgeable. The entire atmosphere was warm and inviting. I will be back to try a sandwich or 7. Keep up the good work!
Me and wife just had lunch here today. Service is great! Food is fresh and delicious! Will recommend to all, if you are in for German home food, with a cozy warm European ambiance!
So happy this place is still open, the pastries are so good and worth the trip!
Loved the women working there. They were friendly and truly appreciative of our patronage. Food is fantastic and authentic. I travel about 20 miles to get my Weisswurst. (Nürnberger Bratwurst)
Ive been going here for well over 15 years and its always been amazing and quality. Couldnt recommend more. Be aware that from May 27-June 10 of 2019 they will be closed for a family reunion.
Friendly staff and lovely selection of ethnic food. Great place to sit in and dine as well!
Always delicious and a treat to come in. The owner and server are always sweet, and funny. I dont have a favorite dish, because I love them all, but I recommend the schnitzel and sauerkraut. Portions to price are really great. Their little market has pretty neat German things, like: snacks, desserts, other treats, and German newspapers and reading materials.
Amazing little place! Their deli sandwiches are perfection and the ladies working were extremely friendly and helpful. They have all sorts of goodies too! We pulled into the plaza for Taco Bell and my husband saw Upland German Delicatessen as we pulled in, and I am SO glad he saw it! Well be back, for sure!
It was our first time here today! Food was delicious! Pastries great too! Jokes are the worst (bratwurst!) The lady loves to joke around! Definitely worth a try.
Been eating here for years!! Their deserts are wonderful. They make them there. The hot food is always delicious. I love their cabbage rolls. Their potato salad is so good. I love eating there. They also make cakes. I got one for my horses birthday party every year. Everyone loved it.
While showing its age, this place is still a gem! Got bratwurst(to grill at home), rolls, german potato salad and sauerkraut. Everything was delicious, although the sauerkraut was sweeter and less acidic than expected.
If you want good German food and some amazing desserts this is the place to go. Two thumbs up
Fantastic food, whether you order something prepared or take components to go. I love the impulse buys too -- an excuse to buy marzipan! The feeling in here is so perfectly German. Makes me miss my Oma like crazy.
The food is out of this world.
What a jewel! Easy to dismiss from the outside, but once you walk in, youll discover a small little corner of Germany! From home made cookies and pastries to an amazing deli, it comes complete with a proprietor thats quite a character! Stop in for lunch and enjoy!
Wonderful local shop. A must is the pretzels and sausages
I have lived in upland 20 years and have driven to Alpine Village every time I craved good German food. I found this place 6 months ago and I love it. Their prices a good and their food is even better. They also have a good beer selection. I am obviously not German but I have done my share of enjoying their food and beer and I can say that this place is one of the best. The only negative thing I can say about it is, you cant drink alcohol there. This is not a problem since I just take the food and beer home with me.
So I just wrote this nice review below and the woman at the counter delivers my food and I ask for a fork and she does not say yes, but asks me why I need one for the overflowing sandwich. Odd! I asked if I need a reason? She said no. I just want one. Well, It’s not horribly bad but it was irritating Kids say thanks and she does not say you are welcome. German manners and hospitality?? Any German folks like to clarify?Nice sandwiches and authentic German grocery goods. The pies and tarts taste great. Kinda hidden though behind a Taco Bell though.
Its actually authentic and delicious, unlike most other authentic places Ive been to. I have been here twice, now, and both times have left me looking forward to my next visit. The Bratwurst taste like real sausage, not like the garbage that most places serve, and the portions are really good for the price. The sauerkraut is a little sweeter than I prefer, but still very delicious. Overall all the food is good, and the couple that own/run it are great. My only complaint is that it is an hour and a half from my house, so when Im in the area and have time Ill continue to stop by.
They carry almost the entire line of Kruegermann products! This is essential if you want authentic German pickled products. They are always busy during lunch hour, so I havent tried their sandwiches. The store is well stocked with typical German goodies that I just get what I need. Will eventually be able to get lunch there when its not busy.
Wow, this is a true gem. My sister found this place after we visited Germany and was looking for sauerkraut. OMG. The best ever. Next visit I picked up several types of bratwurst. Again. Wow. Really really good. I will definitely be coming here for my German food.
I really miss German culture in Southern California. This is one of the few gems left. They are awesome! I really love the veal sausage.
Uncommonly great. The best Rueben I’ve ever had and the German potato salad was delicious. My advice: Don’t pass this place up.
LOVE ALL their foods here
Must go! Reuben is delicious! German potato salad great as well. They even gave me two chocolate covered strawberries! Not sure if thats a normal or not but was a surprise to me. Will be back.
This is a great little mom and pop German store, bakery and deli that has been quietly doing its magic for 40 years. Here you can find all kinds of things German, like newspapers, magazines, Kruegermann sauerkraut, Nürnberger bratwurst, Reuben sandwich, homemade German potato salad, apple strudel, all sorts of German pastries and the list keeps going.Ah! And the lady at the front counter may not be all fake smiles without content like other places, but exudes knowledge, efficiency and straightforwardness. If that is not the complete package of an authentic German experience, then I dont know what is! Give it a try. You will be glad you did and regret you did not hear about it sooner!!
This place is awesome! Food is amazing! Everyone should come here to eat and/or to stock up on some German goodies!
This place is inflexible refuses to make any changes to order...8nstead of offering to charge more they just refuse to do it...Wanted two meats in sandwich was refused asked for it on a roll that they use for other sandwiches... ridiculous...
I like going here to get the Westphalia ham, and a Braunschweiger sandwich.
Small little mom and pop shop. Really good food and service. Highly recommended. It was my first time dinning today and saw it from the road. So glad i went in.
Really great place. Food is good! Beer is ice Cold, pastries are awsome
I got the chicken schnitzel which was mostly common ingredients, but the sauce. My God the sauce was something else, something amazing. The fruit pastries were okay. The fact that they have German imports is really cool. Ill go back to try the other sandwiches.
I have been a regular at The German Deli for 15 years! They have an assortment of amazing sandwiches, pastries and German beer. Highly recommend to anyone. Try the Reuben sandwich, its phenomenal!
WOW! This place delivers. The (delicious) Yorshire Dip is a great sandwitch. Also the (amazing) Rubin. Both are very well done. This place has the best sandwiches in Upland. Try them all. Get them with sides of potato or macaroni salad. You wont leave hungry or disappointed. They also serve traditional German meals. Im sure they are great too. The iced tea is great. The baked goods are sublime. Take some home.
Such a great place, love the owner, she reminds me of my husband’s German aunt. Amazing food every time!!!
The best german food and a quaint market. This place is one of those hidden gems that should be enjoyed while you can. I fear the recipes will be lost when this place closes or changes hands. All of the meats are fresh and the pastries are as light as the meats are flavorful. Try the German potato salad.
The sandwich was amazing and the staff was awesome. Im definitely coming back.
The Ruben is dynamite. Looking forward to trying some more of their food. I hold off on 5 stars for the moment because I have only been once.
My wife and I stop in here about every other week. My wife always gets the beef rouladen and I try different items. We have yet to be disappointed with the food here. The owner is fun to joke with and her husband is a great cook and baker. Their server is always so sweet to us and typically knows what we want when we walk in. They have a nice selection of meats, cheeses and sides as well as various pastries and desserts. There are also jarred goods including pickles, jams and red cabbage plus other sweets from Europe. They also carry seasonal and holiday items on top of all this. It’s a little tucked away, but worth stopping in for a bite.
🌟 I LOVE the Ruben sandwich here!, quaint little deli/shop, a few authentic grocery items, fantastic authentic food and pastries, (also a few tables to sit and eat there for the best experience). 🌟
Not bad. German lady was a little short with me.i ordered the bravado ....it was ok. It was basically a regular sandwich.... probably wouldnt come back if i had choices
Do yourself a favor and stop in for some great German food! Sandwiches and strudel is great, driving by and decided to stop best decision all week maybe all month.
Bought two loafs of bread today and both are old and dry. Very disappointing and def. not German quality. Especially for the prices they charge. ☹️
The place is so cute, decorated, its small just a few tables. They have lots of dessserts. Healthy food options. They have german cuisine. The service is excellent.
Wow! is all I can say. Very small eating area but the best German food I have ever had. Great for eat in or take out.
Everything ive ever ordered from here is great food, and cust service. Thank you so much also for customizing my corned beef sandwich. It was amazing! I appreciate the extra service and attention to detail and care into making the food!
The aroma when I walked reminded me of my Omas house Germany. Great little place and great food.
Delicious sandwiches! Authentic German products and they are always friendly!
I love love this place great food great love the atmosphere
Delicious food and a great personality behind the counter!
Sandwich was massive and delicious. Black forest cake was amazing.
Wonderful little hidden gem. The weinershnitzel and sauerkraut is a must!
Love this place. Lady so nice and bread is great!
What a awesome Place very friendly and good food
Food is good but the older lady is not that friendly and everything is overpriced
Homestyle German Cooking! The potato salad and spazetle are delicious as is the Wienerschnitzel and Bratwurst. Do yourself a favor and take some apple strudel home.
Very nice little German deli. Lovely little pastries and a cute older German couple that own it.
I get the best nom noms from this place and it hits the spot
Always amazing service every time I come here. The food never disappoints!
Some tasty original product great Russian bread but not enough choices
Ive been coming here for over 20 years. I was in Germany when the wall came down. Great hardworking people here. Keep grinding them Nurnberger Bratwurst out. Ich liebe diese Menschen!
Best roast beef dip in town. Going to be coming here for life
Unfortunately, I can not recommend this store to anyone. As a born and raised german, I came towards the greater LA area due to needed work withing my company. As I was browsing around for german food and shopping options (besides Aldi and Trader Joes) I came across this store. I visited the store today with expectations, that were crushed shortly after I got back to my hotel. I bought some Bratkartoffeln that were more than 2 years past due! Two years! Ive seen some Meggle Kräuterbutter that was already over 4 years past their due date! Out of the $70 Dollars of groceries I bought, only the Karamalz, Kartoffelpuffer and Knödel were ok with the due dates. I am not sure about the Senfgurken that I have bought. Please be aware of the dates before you buy!
Great German food. Good pastries too.
Been coming here for many years and highly recommend the place. They dont always have a complete selection of pastries, no doubt from selling out.
Absolutely wonderful the food was delicious our server was excellent
Absolutely delicious, but expect a long lunch because of a two person operation.
Best German sandwich shop hands down! Everything here is amazing!
Wonderful authentic german cuisine.
Great food and great service.
This place is awesome it feels like home and taste like it to.
The food is authentic German made with quality ingredients and the staff is super friendly. Menu has mostly lunch items like sandwiches but there are some dinner options as well.
Its Open!! And still tasty!!
Excellent service, sandwiches and potato salads
Love the brats with Swiss potato salad. Friendly staff.
Amazing scenery and staff. Blows other sandwich shops out the water
Always great at German Deli, very authentic!
