This store charged me more than the marked price on an item. (I did not discover this until I returned home.) This disappointed me.

World Harvest is truly a neat place. They have a great selection of things you really cant find in many other stores in the local area. Its much more fun to look than it is to buy, the prices are extremely high. Although you cant find much of the selection elsewhere, I dont believe the demand in the area is very high, because there are a ton of expired items in this store. Always be sure to check the dates on literally everything, I have found things more than a year old, which should not be happening if the stores inventory is being taken properly and proper facing is being done. They often have sales, but the sales for food product are generally expired items, and still very expensive. There is a fantastic selection of essential oils and natural care items that is very impressive and worth taking a look. The owner is very charismatic and extremely nice, as well as all staff. The facility is fairly clean as well. The attached café, Strawberry Fields, is a gem. The food is fresh and fantastic, bringing different flavors into play. The wait is a bit long for them to make food but it is worth it. The staff is very attentive to the diners needs and very willing to answer any questions about the food they serve. As far as their baked goods, we were stopping in every Friday for baked goodies for nearly a year and a half. I will say the quality of these items seems to have gone downhill and we havent been impressed in 2021. The selection has gone down and the cakes/muffins/cupcakes have been very dry and just not good so Im unsure what happened. Recently, SF has partnered with Hunny Bunny Bakes which has brought new life forth, and although the cake jars are home made and very good they are small Im unsure they are worth the $8 price point (That isnt advertised on the case, so you will be surprised at the register). I wish theyd bring back a better selection of regular baked goods with high quality. We havent been patronizing the facility as often because quality is down and prices are up.

World Harvest (WH) is with Strawberry Fields (SF) and both have lost. SF was community based & helpful in vegetarian, vegan, & health foods. WH with ethic foods. The selection for both is down, & some of the more economic items are missing, making both stores expensive. Staff does not know its own product. Food is still open for the public to pick by hand without gloves or safety items. The deli is also open for various staff. Note: they are close to campus. No one is masked and aisles are narrow. Not ADA friendly but some staff will help, even to your car, but not all. Parking is free but in an incline. The cold section items are mostly able to be found in other small stores. If it continues this trend, I will stop shopping here, as it is, I have cut back going due to other locations being less expensive and friendlier. There are still unique items to find, if you have the time, and if dont mind the lack of social distancing. Call ahead as hours seem to change. Would be glad to review again to see it get better, as these were once my favorite places to shop.

So I read a review that didnt paint this store as the best place but as I try to not be the type of person who judges a book by its cover, I decided to go look for myself. I had time to kill so I went nice and slow as I walked as many isles as possible. Many of my favorite items were there and equally priced to my experience or on sale. The only hiccup is some of those sale items were not correctly priced. When I brought my receipt and items back to clarify, Ata (my checkout person) and Mohammed (I dont know if this is correctly spelt, the owner) helped get everything into order. They have ceylon cinnamon which is hard to find. Overall, they had a huge selection with varying prices. My intent is to shop local when I can and prices are right. Big box stores killed mom and pop shops, now the internet is doing a final round. I am a hands on person so I am archaic and proud.

Some of the chocolate was expired/expiring soon. I enjoyed coming for the variety of food, which was there. I think there needs to be more Indian items

I love the cheese and olives but the main person who always waits on me never gives you the quantity of anything you want. If you ask for a few olives he fills the container so full that it leaks in the bag in your car. I asked for a small chunk of cheese today and specifically said a 1/4 lb or less and he cut 3/4 of a pound slice. He did this 2 times in a row and the first time he was rude when I told him i wanted a smaller chunk. They are greedy money hungry people who have terrible customer service and want the maximum amount of money out of you on every trip. Ive been a loyal customer since the old location and they have lost my business. If the cheese is 20.99 per lb there is a huge difference between 1/4 lb and 3/4 lb. They also have multiple expired and out of date products in the store and still sell them at a high cost. They also treat the employees terrible as I witnessed yet again today. Go to Harvest Market or anywhere else if you want anything that resembles good service.

I used to frequent this store when it was just Strawberry Fields,. When it was announced that it was merging with World Harvest, I switched to one of the other organic stores in the area. Today I went back, looking for a few specific items and I was shocked. The place was dirty, smelled, and just overall was not what you would expect from a natural foods store. It was nothing like how it used to be, the first store that introduced me to organic foods and I left very disappointed. I could not find any of the few items I was looking for, which are common at the other stores but simply out of stock. It may be good if you are looking for certain regional or ethnic foods, but not for organic/nature. I will not be back.

Compared to other markets, their prices are always expensive! Also, please check dates on anything before you purchase it! They do have habit to cover expired products date and try to sell them like fresh. Lastly, they hide cheap cheeses at the back of the freezer in order to sell their open box expensive Bulgarian cheese. After they sold out with it, those inexpensive cheese moves back to the front to sell them higher. When we confronted them, they of course denied! Never again!!

So I just quit my job at Strawberry Fields/World Harvest in Urbana and I picked up my last paycheck so I am now finally free to shed some light on that business. My very first day of training they taught me how to slice the cheese at the dairy counter so that the customers dont see the mold. The majority of the cheeses are expired and they leave the knives out all day and only some employees actually wash the surfaces. The food that is in the deli cooler at Strawberry Fields (like the hummus, dolmeh, pad thai, etc.) is literally left out for a full week just sitting there. The pastries are left on the counter until they sell. There are probably two oat cookies still in the jar on the counter which have supposedly been there for months longer than I worked there which, admittedly, wasnt very long after I had seen these practices.2 weeks ago they replaced their espresso machine because the steamer stopped working. Why? Because no one ever cleaned it so it got so full of old, bacteria filled milk that it plugged up and stopped working. The dairy and dairy substitutes that they use for their drinks are almost always expired and chunky, but they will blend it anyway and serve it.The grocery store part has products that expired YEARS ago still on the shelves to sell, and when I and other coworkers suggested that maybe we shouldnt be selling smores that expired in 2017 that contain egg and dairy, we were told to keep them there because there is still money to be made.I was very grateful to have met so many wonderful people who come through the store and to have made a connection with the regulars throughout my shifts. I cannot stress how much I loved talking to people and how much I appreciated my coworkers like Rad and Najat. But I cant lie to customers and knowingly sell them expired and contaminated goods.Mohammad, if you see this, this is why I quit and I sincerely hope that you fix your business practices and learn to have integrity. You wonder why people quit frequently and it is because you value money over human beings.

I lived in C-U for 11 years as an adolescent and young adult. I did undergrad school at U of I, and quite often I used to go to Strawberry Fields back in the 1970s and eat their homemade dishes. Forty-five years later, this place is one of my go-tos for buying more esoteric goods: spices, groceries, bakery, deli, etc. I go there every visit. I have brought Chinese black vinegar, rice wine, pomegranate molasses and savoiardi biscuits with me from California in order to make a Moroccan chicken, tiramisù and a Chinese pork dish, but I could have saved myself the luggage inspection by buying it all here. Yes, its pricy, but if you like to cook... ... ...interestingly, I ran into a Pakistani gentleman at the local Meijer grocery store as he was selecting limes to pickle, and he said the same thing: expensive, but the only game in town more often than not. Its nice to have the advantages of a small town but be able to get big city goods as well. My friend says that if they dont have it, theyll try to get it for you. I spoke with the owner this last time, and he is personable and helpful.

More of an organic store rather than an international products one [I had come in expecting international since international came before gourmet in their store name]. ie, rather than finding polish dumplings in the freezer aisle, there were 6-7$ fancy pint ice creams. Rather than those Kinder European chocolates there were those 4-6$ chocolates found in Walgreen. Good place if your looking for expensive organic teas or oil. The international selection at first glance is more Italian, Turkish, some Japanese and Polish, Jewish [tho dont quote me on it, I didnt stay long to find out specifically]. The prices are not double tho they are higher, ie if at a discount big retailer it costs $3.50, at County Market it would cost $4.00, here it would be $4.75. By the way, make sure to check your receipt after checkout (I ended up paying $0.08 for a weighted product I didnt buy.). Students get 7% off on Wednesdays. I didnt see any expired products although there were no dates on the bread I looked at in the bread aisle [they do have homemade-looking polish rye bread but not the Lithuanian black rye bread that I was looking for].TLDR: its a gourmet store, not an international one like the 3 Asian ones you see near Green Street in the undergrad downtown area.

Overpriced, in addition to expired. By finding the same imported products in the Polish stores in Chicago, I saw that the World Harvest’s prices are DOUBLED or even more than that!!! I mean, I understand that it maybe needs to be a bit more expensive since it’s on the UIUC campus, but what’s too much it’s too much. I wonder how come inspection does not do anything against it. Too bad that they are the only store around that offers certain products not obtainable elsewhere, thereby obviously misusing the situation.
