We could not be more pleased with the service, quality, and responsiveness of Mermaid Catering. The staff were wonderfully supportive as we developed a menu for an outdoor evening reception and morning brunch for 60 people. The food was delicious, the service staff were extremely accommodating to every request and kind to every guest, and the price point was perfect! Our guests are still talking about the quality of the food ... many saying it was the best food they ever had at a reception of this nature. Tonight my daughter, her fiance, and I went for our food tasting and we had the charcuterie board, hawaiian, italian and mexican samples and each and everyone were fabulous. According to our guests, everything at our wedding on 8/6/21 was great…everything, but the food!Dissatisfied with food and even more with customer service skills of servers, manager and THE OWNER.To begin with they were extremely hard to reach before the wedding, the sales manager kept screening the calls from me and my wedding planner and ignored the voice messages we left(even though we paid in full in advance).We ordered seabass in orange marmalade, chicken Alfredo, roasted green vegetables and potatoes- and only potatoes were cooked as promised. Chicken and fish had no sauce on ( when I say no, I mean it) Multiple guests noticed that cornbread tasted like orange… Vegetables were overcooked and mushy, even though when the same exact thing happened during the tasting we were guaranteed it won’t happen again….The event caterer was 1.5 hours late to set up( later the owner blamed our wedding planner for not communicating the time properly) The servers were unprofessional and kept complaining to the guests.Honestly, all of the above we would tolerate if the owner was somewhat apologetic on the phone discussing the issues with us… stuff happens, we understand, people being late, food is being overlooked… it’s okay. However, Julie- the owner was totally unprofessional on the phone telling us we were the only people at the wedding who didn’t like the food. She blamed everything on the kitchen manager who was fired couple days after our event (of course, according to Julie it was a coincidence and wasn’t connected to our experience).Overall, I would never ever choose this caterer if I knew about the quality of customer service and food quality. Your option doesn’t really matter after you paid them. Try at your own risk.

The food was delicious, and the staff did a fantastic job… They went above and beyond in helping out with things that they didn’t have to. They were amazing! We will definitely be using your services again in the future!

We used Mermaid Catering for the bartenders at our wedding. We provided our own alcohol and they provided all the mixers and needed items. They were excellent and very professional. They were super flexible when things got a little topsy turvy and all of our guests said they were wonderful.

The Annual Staff (pool) Party for Green Leaf and Pebble Tea Spa & Café of Virginia Beach was recently catered by Mermaid Catering. WOW! Not only was the party fun, but Mermaid Catering was FABULOUS! Lorin and Cari from Mermaid gave us not only superb and top notch services, but also an array of some of the most delicious “yummies for our tummies” that anyone could ever imagine. Everything from presentation of their absolutely delicious gourmet offerings to the professional and superior fun nature of Lorin snd Cari - was a show that every catering company everywhere should emulate. We had approximately 30 guests plus the BJ Griffin Jazz Ensemble at the event. EVERYONE loved the catering aspect in all regards. They did my wedding in 2019. They were cheap, but the customer service from the owner wasnt great. The actual servers for my wedding were awesome though.I decided to give them another chance by ordering their Adult Hot Cocoa Bombs for Christmas. I ordered about a month in advance. I chose a pick up date and time, but it said it was tentative and that I would be contacted to confirm. I was never contacted. To be honest, since I ordered them so far in advance I forgot about the order. I woke up Christmas Eve and suddenly remembered. I was still able to pick up, but if I had gotten that confirmation call, probably would have remembered to go on my original pick up day.Also, the bombs did not taste like there was any alcohol or flavor to them. Just tasted like hot chocolate. For $13 a piece, I was hoping for more.Summary: Food is good, not great. If youre on a budget, its a good option. Just dont expect good customer service.

Julie and her staff at Mermaid Catering were an absolutely fantastic choice for our church Volunteer Banquet. Mermaid Catering provided an excellent meal and her staff was amazing. Very easy to work with while providing great selections. I highly recommend Mermaid Catering for any event that you want to host.

Terrible, unprofessional and unsanitary. I picked up a Christmas dinner and before leaving while checking my food I saw that 2 of my items were missing. I think I apologized more than they actually did. Instead of just bringing it out they took my entire box of food and what they did with it, I dont know.But when they returned it, some of the containers that I had already opened had been switched out. I expressed my concern over the sanitization and contact contamination and the owner Julie dismissed me and at no time apologized for their mistake of forgetting the food in the first place. I do not feel comfortable eating something that is now compromised. So now not only am I out of my money, I have to find a dinner the day before Christmas. Proceed with caution when ordering from this company.EDITED TO ADD: The owners reply to my review is an example of how unprofessional they are. Humility is not something that they practice. To say that I was crying on the phone is rude. I was very upset with the situation and her tone and blase showed that she did not care. I stay firm in what I have said even more because of her response.

Julie and her team arrived on time and were very professional and attentive to the needs of our guests. They brought everything they needed with them. The food was delicious and everyone enjoyed their meals. Overall, everything was on par with other caterers I have used in the past and I have no problem recommending Mermaid Catering in the future.

Julie is absolutely amazing to work with! Mermaid catered our backyard wedding on Oct. 6 and she was - by far - the most organized, flexible and laid-back caterer we talked to. She provided an in-home tasting for us, did a walk-through of our space with recommendations for staging and stations and accommodated a variety of custom requests (providing our own cutlery, adding two hours of bar service, etc. etc.) without ever missing a beat. We had a ton of feedback on the menu and were really pleased with our final menu.The day-of, her team executed everything PERFECTLY! I showed up after the ceremony to happy guests already eating and a beautifully presented spread. The cake cutting was flawless and her team did an AMAZING job of cleaning up before they left, which I was not expecting. Fantastic employees, flexible service, and great options for any budget... Most importantly? Rave reviews on the food! I highly, highly recommend them for anyone looking for a caterer for a big event.

When I was initially planning my wedding, I was looking for a caterer that would do food stations within my budget instead of the typical buffet or seated dinner. Mermaid Catering was the ONLY company that didnt turn me down or charge a ridiculous amount of money for very little food. The service staff was great, the food was awesome (especially the crab dip and shrimp and grits!) and everything was taken care of on the day of my wedding without any hiccups.

Julie the manager was super accommodating, patient and super worth it! I love how they were super flexible, kind and super professional at pulling through even within a little of less than a week off setting up an event. Really appreciate this business integrity and incredible service

I was overcharged and have been trying to get my refund back for four weeks catering company refuses to pay it back.I don’t recommend this company at all. Paid for Rental venue then when the party was over the venue charged me I then said something to Julie she told me it wasn’t included went back looked at my invoice it was included and she overpriced it from what the venue charges she said she was going to give me a refund I’ve been waiting for four weeks she will not respond to any phone calls or emails.

Julie is phenomenal to work with! I am a member of the Surfrider Foundation Virginia Chapter and this past weekend our chapter hosted 20 East Coast chapters for our East Coast Chapter Leadership Conference and provided a dinner for all in attendance. Everyone was RAVING about the food! Mermaid Catering and Julie kicked butt! Julie was so easy to work with and went above and beyond to accommodate our environmental group. I highly recommend Mermaid Catering to anyone who is in search of a catering company that will exceed all expectations! Our menu included vegan, vegetarian and gluten free options, as well as your meat options. Surfrider Foundation Virginia Chapter cannot thank Julie enough! The amount of compliments we received over the delicious food speak volumes for this company. 11 out of 10 stars!

Not enough words to describe how great this company is!! Made my parents 55th Anniversary party even more special by providing delicious food, great service & the best staff I’ve ever dealt with. Highly recommend them !!

Love them super helpful when planning events. their food is delicious and they can help you with dietary restriction.

They showed up late and were still setting up when our guests were arriving. The primary server was great but her two helpers were young high school boys and they were all painfully underdressed with t-shirts and baseball caps.Much of the food was good but the crab cakes were cold and the ham biscuits were very very dry. Overall the food was Under impressive.I called a couple days after our party to talk to owner. She was polite and apologetic but offered no concessions. I felt as though at least the awful ham biscuits should have been “comp’d.”I try to always be fair with the very few reviews I have left over the years, but honestly I wouldn’t rehire this company for the reasons listed. I would suggest looking elsewhere unless they improve their act.

They were great working with us, the food arrived a little late due to traffic but it was great.
