I had a fishing trip scheduled and decided to outfit my new Honda Pilot with a new rack system with a cargo rack and reel holders. With the pandemic taking over Yakima has been back ordered but David went above and beyond stating I would be able to use a rack system for my trip until my new parts came in to be installed. Completely blown away of the kindness and accommodations he made for me to ensure my trip went smoothly. I was going to order an older cargo basket, but was introduced to the OffGrid series and I’m glad Wild River Outfitters took their time to go over the specific details of my vision. Customer for life hands down.

They are closed most of the week. It says theyre open Saturdays, yet this is the second Saturday i came here and it was not open. Ive never eveb stepped foot in this store. Youre better off going to field and stream or ordering off amazon. Dont waste your precious time.

I lost the key to my Yakima roof racks and needed them off ASAP because I had sold my car. I didn’t know where I could find a replacement key on such short notice and shuddered at the thought of what a locksmith would charge to make a copy. I called WR Outfitters and spoke to David about buying a key. David asked me for the key code. I didn’t know my key even HAD a code and I couldn’t find my paperwork from when they were installed there a few years ago. I called back and explained the situation. David told me he had a master set of Yakima keys and to come in and he’d try to figure out which one it was. When I arrived at the store, David accompanied me outside with what seemed like 100 keys on a VERY large keychain. One by one he tried EVERY key and NONE worked. Turns out my specific key was the ONLY key he didn’t have on his master set. Internally, I began to panic. The racks needed to be off today. David suggested other stores that might have a key. As I’m on the phone with REI, David was busy scouring the store in hopes that my specific key might’ve been put somewhere else. REI informs me that my key is not in stock, but if I drove to their store, they’d let borrow their master key to unlock my roof racks (YAY!) but they could not help me remove them (Bummer). I told Dave the good news about the REI key....and the not so good news that they couldn’t help me remove my racks. It’s now 3:00 and Wild River Outfitters is closed. I thanked David for all of his help and had to dash quickly to REI to use their key. David then said something I couldn’t believe. He offered to wait while I ran to REI to help me remove my roof racks. Unreal! Genuine kindness and customer service like this is SCARCE these days. I was blown away. Thank you David!

David and Nicole at Wild River Outfitters are great. They are very knowledgeable of their products. We very much appreciated the opportunity to demo various models to help us choose our 2019 Hobie Outbacks. We also went with the Yakima EasyRider trailer to make transporting them even easier. We will definitely be doing business with Wild River again when its time to buy our next Hobie.

Went here to buy my first car rack. The staff here are very knowledgeable and even stayed past closing time to allow me to purchase and install the rack! (Originally, I was called to set up the appointment to make such installment, but the voice mail wasnt received) Staff made great suggestions and were a great help.Beware the store puppy. His softness and kisses will make you not want to leave. 😂 Thank you for all your help!

This place has been there for at least 18 years and Ive always received excellent customer service. If you tell them what your intentions are they will sell you the correct kayak; not the most expensive kayak. They will also spend the time to ensure that youre sized up correctly before you hit the water. You will not hosed on your purchase here.

Wild River Outfitters is the best place to go for all outdoor recreational needs. I have received excellent customer service and advice from the staff on several trips. Most recently, my family was here for a vacation and we planned a kayak expedition on the Chesapeake Bay. The staff provided timely information on everything we needed for a successful trip. They met us at the designated location with all necessary equipment, and were especially helpful with providing safety and how-to information. Wild River Outfitters offers quality merchandize and the management is receptive to any and all questions or concerns. Their personal and professional interactions with me have made this my favorite store.

Great place for your white water needs

Unfortunately I purchased a used product which was going to be provided with certain accessories. While the product works, I never received my accessory (in this case a rolling travel bag for my inflatable kayak). Initially I was informed that it was dirty and they would need time to clean it. At the time of purchase apparently some greenery had grown on the bag. I called back several times over about 2 months in which I was informed me they still needed time. They asked if they would be able to call back when it was complete. I suppose they may still be working on it till this day, I’ll never know.

Have a Hobie 2019 Mirage Adventure Island sailing kayak. Bought it from David at Wild River. Great people to work with. Stored it over the winter and had some owner inflicted damage when we launched a few weeks ago. Called Wild River - David drove to Gloucester to try and make repair’s but needed to take it back to the shop. Came back in a few days with trailer, took it to shop (~ 40 miles) fixed the kayak, and brought it back to Gloucester Point same day. Total charge was absolute minimum. Incredible!! Doesn’t get any better than this folks.

Had a roof rack installed on slightly older car (2005). They helped me pick out bike and kayak rack and took the time to explain / demonstrate everything to me. They were also friendly and professional. Would highly recommend for any kayak or roof rack needs.

Hands down, Wild River Outfitters is my favorite Hobie dealer. They are knowledgeable about all of the different models and how they vary year-to-year, which can be hard to keep track of for consumers. Their staff and shop dog provide excellent customer service. I recently took my kayak in for some assistance with the rudder control becoming stiff, because I spent a few hours looking at it and couldnt figure out what was making it tight. In about 10 minutes, they diagnosed the problem (which I wouldnt have been able to fix myself) and were able to make the adjustments. Smooth as can be now. Thank you WRO!

Even though they did not have the particular item I looking for, they have great customer service. I called their store and no one picked up since more than likely they were helping a customer in their store. What I didnt expect was a call back from them. Also, she recommend me to other stores to find the item I was looking. That was awesome!!

Went in loved shop n staff asked them to hold a kayak while I met wife for lunch. Decided I would buy ..........tried to call 6 times to pay for it over the phone as I couldnt get back to the store before they closed but for some reason get answering service returned to store next morning with cash in hand to find they had sold it. Only alternative they had was 700 bucks more.........lost a customer for life

Honestly I loved it, drove up from North Carolina and it was a nice surprise to see how much they had available, the staff was so friendly & helpful, not pushy and hard to find. I got just what I was looking for even cheaper than some of the other suppliers. Cant wait to go back!

Wild River Outfitters (WRO) is a local owned and operated company that genuinely cares about their customers. Their staff on the sales floor and in their touring department is phenomenal. They are always friendly and eager to answer questions. I have gone on two tours with them and have shopped at their store numerous times. The kayak tours are a great family outing – an experience I will never forget! The staff is very educated at what they do. WRO has earned my business and that of my family, thank you for truly caring.

Rented a kayak from the new location at stumpy lake, very good pricing for good quality kayaks/gear in great condition. Stumpy lake is a bit small but a fun and very pretty area to kayak through.

The past few years from Hiking, Kayaking and camping I have tried to give them my bussiness dollars. I have purchased small things from them that were needed but the larger and more prominent items I have purchased elsewhere as they continue to be disrespectfull in ways I do not think they even see. Today was the last for me with the lack of customer service displayed at their annual Demo day for Kayaks. It would have been a great time to sell me on the brand model I should get for my son, instead they lost that chance with discourteous actions and a lack of feeling to me and my family. My money will be better spent at the BIG BOX stores, even though it pains me not to support a locally owned and run bussiness. Sorry WRO, but todays contribution to Charity at the Demo Day event will be the last from our family for a long while.update 7/2012 - I have meant to do this for quite awhile. Taking away my unpleasant experience from above I still decicded to give WRO a chance when I upgraded to a 12 fishing Kayak earlier this year. I purchased the Yak and noticed some Hull issues when I took it out the following weekend. After following the in store advice about shipping bends {leave in sun so form can pop back}, I still had variations and a definite defect in the material. I contacted Johnson Outdoors {The Kayak manufatcurer rep} and e-mailed pictures of the boat from various angles showing the hull. They said to return to the place of purchase and get a new one. Okay, now I feel like im not just being nit picky; I have the manufacturer documentation..Slam dunk. right??? WRONG! First thing out of the guys mouth at WRO is I straped it down wrong {btw, I own several other yaks and know how to tie down}, then that all Kayaks take on water {Oh, water was inside the yak and pulled to right, which Is why i looked closer into the hull}. then over the course of 40 minutes proceeded to tell me that I may have to wait for a replacement hull from the manufacturer and that they have to do there own research on a possible solution. There was over 3/4 inch dip in the bow line when the guy at WRO put a straight pole along the edge. After that it took another hour or so and me leaving for a Lunch, for them to tell me they can swap the boat and that I could pay an additional $80 to upgrade to the new year model. {no differences mind, just the production year.so no free upgrades if they were to replace it}....... Needless to say, at this point I just asked for my money back. Lost alot of time, money, trying to let them make it right, but to no avail. Went to Appomatox River Co, purchased Kayak and been happy ever since.
