I sent a friend to the Waco store after He had asked me where was the best place to purchase a 22 Cal rifle. Well later that day he calls me and tells me that He has to wait 30 days before a back ground check will be completed. I then called the store and pretended that I was interested in purchasing a rifle and I asked the clerk how long would a back ground check take, his reply was It may just take a few minutes. My friend happens to be black, I have only one more word to share with ACADEMY SPORTS, PROFILEING.

I have purchased multiple firearms from here. The process is easy. The only bad part is that sometimes it takes a while for the manager to come and take you to the front to complete the purchase. About half the time it has been quick and the other half pretty dang slow. I guess it just depends on who is working. That is my only reason for deducting stars.

Good prices on certain clothing items, usually always have what we need sports wise. Super packed right now due to school but thats out of their control. Didnt have any associates ask if we needed help so had to track one down ourselves.

General manager needs to pay more attention to customers. We are literally standing in line with literally 40 people. No extra help coming up front with plenty of employees walking around working. Clear your registers!!

Great customer service! I was looking for a particular softball net and online it showed was in stock. I got to the store and I couldn’t find it anywhere. I went to the counter and asked if someone could see if it was anywhere in the store. The employee spent a good 15 minutes or so looking, he ended up finding it up in the rafters and got the ladder, got it down for me and removed it from the box.I will continue to shop here as they always go the extra mile for the customer.

Tamathia Miller was an absolute pleasure. We needed some cleats for my sons football practice and she helped us find some and she didn’t even work in that department! Thank Mrs. Miller For going out your way to help us! We need more customer service like you!

I LOVE Academy, but this store needs to work on customer service, I got to their curbside pickup and waited 20 minutes. Went inside and employees just standing and watching. Waited another 10 minutes for a can I help you. Really bad.

Took my 5 stars to 1. Every time I make an online order they are either out and refund me or dont have it ready for days. Customer service offers no help only excuses. Used to think very highly of Academy. Not anymore, your issues are not my problem, I dont need to know why you failed, I need you to make it right. If Ive waited 2 days for an order I dont want to just keep waiting indefinitely bc you are/were/maybe short staffed. Especially after I called and spoke to the manager to confirm my order would be ready by the time I came by.

The line was long but it moved fast they had plenty of registers open to check u out the staff was very helpful had several ask if I needed any help

This place is MASSIVE!!Everything you need sports and outdoor related is here.Even stuff that’s not related but you still can’t live without. Makes for a good time.

Their customer service is a little bit much. they dont have a lot of options that they used to have and they dont restock things very often so sometimes it can be hard to find what you need. They do have very good sales on things like shoes and sports paraphernalia. Definitely my top recommended place for anything sports or outdoors related all things considered. They also have great deals on their credit card.

This is my go to place to shop for everything except food. They have everything I need in one store. The prices are competitive with other stores and the customer service is amazing!!

Poor management and mis marked itwms

If you are into out activity then this is a great place to gear up. BBQ grills, coolers, baseball, football, hunting, fishing ect... This definitely a place to check out for all who love the great outdoors.

Went there to buy goggles and a noodle for the pool no noodles bummer. Found goggles though almost sold out of those. Sale going on.

Bought two shirts of the same price rack. They were on the correct rack with many more exact items. At the register one shirt rang much more expensive even though the same brand, fit, etc.I caught it at the resister and the cashier said she couldn’t process returns as their system was down. So she asked if we could come back another day. We don’t live here. It literally happened seconds after. They also couldn’t do a gift card for the difference. Manager then yelled at the poor cashier for doing her job. That manager needs training.

I went because they have an awesome selection of shoes. Today they were way understaffed. The checkout line had 10-15 people in it and a lady asked for assistance in shoes and was told no one was working shoes today.

Competitive pricing against Walmart, counter-cross from them, but satisfactory. Cashier was EXCELLENT. She offered help when she saw me struggling with an air mattress.

Good deals, friendly staff, clean, and well stocked, but half the merchandise had no prices so you dont know what youre going to be surprised with at the register.

Went to purchase a dog pen I saw online. The only problem was that I had to walk all over the store to find it! I was about to give up after 3 employees helped direct me the right way. I finally found it ! It was on the bottom shelf, pretty easy to see once I had found it. I just wish someone would have helped me actually find it. Sometimes the finger pointing doesnt really help at all. Other than that, it appears to be a good buy.

Servicing all your sporting goods needs. However, guns and ammo are slim to none right now, but everything else is easy to find. If you are a hunter, I suggest finding out when they get stock deliveries and arrive at least two hours before the truck to have a chance at getting what you need.

Just went in to get a life jacket for my nephew. The price was almost $40 but it rang up less then $20, I love when stuff is on sale!

Polite employees even though they were busy. They had 6 out of the 12 registers open, the line was very long but they were very efficient and it didnt take as long as I thought it would to get checked out. My go to place for red worms for my frogs lately. I am the proud owner of two african dwarf frogs and two albino african clawed frogs that I absolutely adore! I got to Academy Sports to get my live red worms to feed them. They never disappoint. Thank you Academy Sports. I highly recommend this place of business .

Hardly any guns to choose from, you have to refill the store to give an answer, plus restocking any related items seem to be thinned out. But ammo is coming in the store, a little at a time. All good.

One of the young men in the shoe department gave my husband and I one of the best experiences we have ever had in any shoe sale. I appreciate his kindness! all I can remember about the young man was that he had a authentic western belt buckle and mannerism like his mother raised him to respect all people. I wish i would have caught his name but thank you Academy for hiring such a sweet young man who made us feel important!

Had a mistake made with my order pickup regarding an out of stock item and the staff was so helpful. They were slammed and all still took their time to help me and provide excellent service, especially one of the managers named Russel!

This place was far better than my experience at Cabellas. Their customer service was friendly and they actually had ammunition available.

Great store with good selections

Great place to find spot great, camping stuff, bicycles, and any other outdoor related items. Weve always found what we came in for with no hustle. When we needed assistance, we were helped. The store is huge but not overwhelming. The store has a huge accessible parking lot. Its also wheelchair accessible which is great. You can easily see and find this place from the road/highway. Recommend this store.

Went shopping today Academy and did a little browsing theyre having a clearance sale. I went particularly to buy some golf balls wanted to upgrade golf balls and found a selection theres a selection of them went straight to the checkout very fast service. Check out went very well smooth basically in and out and about 10 minutes excellent customer service.....

Dont bother with curbside, it takes them 20 minutes plus to bring it out to you

Academy could improve on getting more registers open when the line huge but they di have it all.

The very few times I have been there, Abilene, Ive always found exactly what I wanted. And more! I have never left without something I didnt go there to purchase.

The new way of checking out works well if they didnt think they were walmart, and not have any cashiers.

Both the men’s and women’s restrooms did not have any soap. I let an associate that was in the restroom with me know and she acknowledged that the dispensers were not working and that the additional bottles that they had set out were empty. Obviously she wasn’t able to wash her hands after she used the restroom. Even when we aren’t trying to pull out of a pandemic, but especially now that we are, this is just disgusting and irresponsible.

Curbside took forever. I called twice and both times the line hung up on me.

Waited more than 15 minutes for a curbside order, and no one on the phone seemed to care. I used to really like Academy, but they’re not handling the online/curbside thing well at all, even more than a year into this thing

Long lines, dirty store, the fishing department needs restocking as always. Curbside pick up is a joke you might as well wait in the long line. When returning an item with my receipt we were offered 1 dollar for a sweater that came in the mail damaged. Customer service sucks. We will shop at cabelas/basspro from now on.

Went to academy, Waco.... yesterday. after calling, about a riffle. he disappeared when I showed up after handing him my license......Talked to someone named Gauge (or GAGE). I showed up, asked for him, gave him my license, and he disappeared. 20 minutes he reappears, only to help 2 other people that came in after I did. ALL BECAUSE I WAS WEARING A TRUMP 2020 SHIRT!!! Just lost a customer for LIFE!!!!SORRY, NOT SORRY!!I KNEW I should have stayed with my family owned Firearms dealer on Wooded Acres, across from Aldi! J, S, and W are the best EVER!!!!!

I sometimes am very happy with my visit and other times wish it wasn’t so much like Walmart. Texans need a store that caters more toward activities like hunting and fish yet they always seem to drift toward a sporty fashion store with mostly Chinese commodities. I like Academy,but it could be better.

Giving it one star is as polite as I can possibly be. The place deserves no star. Worst customer service if you can actually call it that. More like no customer service. I wouldnt recommend it to my worst enemy, because Im not that cruel.

Went around 8:30 to exchange some shoes, no cashiers 2 registers open line was on the other side of outdoor living, asked associate if they can call for back up no she was very rude about never had that kind of experience at academy

Should of known not to go back after this has now happened again. They seriously need to have a customer service desk that is for RETURNS AND EXCHANGES ONLY. Instead they make you get in the long line and then get to customer service for the return and exchange. Ridiculous!!!!

Had a great inventory but lines were long. Only 2 registers were open.

After waiting in line and being told i couldnt do a transaction by a confused employee, I found another disgruntled worker who told me i actually could do the transaction. He proceeded to grab a brand new kid employee who spent about 15 minutes trying to figure out the register and ultimately went to find some help. After about a 45 minute transaction I finally was able to leave, but what made me write this review was the fact that i spoke to 5 different workers who were all rude/didnt know what they were doing, and even met the manager who was also just as upset that i was talking to him.

Come on, do I need to say anything about this guys? This place rocks!!!!!
