Utterly disappointed with management’s claim of “military spouse preference”. I went in today to apply for a store associate position that commissary management advertises on the cash registers to bypass USAjobs.com. I am told Freda, the main point of contact on the advertisement, is out of the office by Martha who is the Store Manager. After seeing my availability of 5am to noon Monday to Friday due to pursing my PhD and valuing time off that corresponds with my service member’s schedule- I am told that “wouldn’t work”. When I asked if there are any exceptions to their routine shifts (9am to 3pm and 3pm to closing) she said no. I find that hard to believe considering other people have multiple jobs, the elderly can potentially have shorter shifts, younger applicants have school, etc. It’s unfortunate the military advertises care for service members and their loved ones when there are actions like this still happening. Attached are two photos of the checkout line the very same day right after my disappointing encounter. It looks like they could use some help, even if part time, to me.
Busy during payday weekends and before holidays. Other than that very clean store and easy access to items.
Customer service here is amazing. They care enough about soldiers and veterans alike. You can literally get everything here to make your cooking easy and household stuff. Plus the bathroom is always clean and you will be required to wash your honds before entering the commissary. MOST IMPORTANTLY, YOU WILL HAVE TO BE PART OF DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE TO GET ACCESS TO THE BASE.
Could really use more vegetarian options at sushi bar. Please more vegetarian options, which means no fake crab either, at sushi bar, please!! Asking the gentlemen to make some always seems to be a hassle. Needs a menu. Other than that, commissary is a commissary.
Almost Everything you need is here for a good price. They have the most delicious poke. I love commissary.
I have not shopped here much in the past but will frequent more as the variety of goods is great and prices are low. Store is clean and neat, it is well maintained and managed. The grocery bagging personnel are hard working and very courteous. I like shopping there.
Starbucks is wonderful! Mask rules are stupid. I walked a mile to get there realized I forgot my mask and they wanted me to pay $6 for a new one! Why are we no longer giving a way masks off we are making it mandatory?
Its amazing, the service is nice and the selection is good, could use more items, but besides that it is great.
The place isnt a five star but its definitely organized and has fresh food!
I was very pleased with my experience at the commissary I was greeted at the door by Ms.Roxanna Ford and it just got better great selection and great price.
Great selection and prices. Store is clean, well stocked, fast checkout, and incredibly helpful baggers.
I like the convenience and variety of items.
Easy in and out. Was able to all we need for dinner.
Best prices on island for food even some things are less than they are at the NEX commissary.
Got some good deals. Was able to get in and out with minimal wait time.
Typical commissary, lots of choices of items... and all checkouts were open! Something you dont see too much of these days!
Smaller then the normal size commissary, but great option to have to shop with the high prices on the island.
Food is fairly priced but the kind of shoppers youd expect from an army post didnt let me down. If you like people watching for amusement while buying food, then this is your place. Oh, one more thing...avoid self checkout if you have more than two items. The helpers are rude as hell and genuinely dont care about anything...least of all helping you.
Great local supermarket that has just about everything you need. No need to travel to Walmart for those last minute items. Plus the hours are pretty good.
Clean, well-stocked shelves. Lots of product choices.
Its the commissary. Needs more self checkout. The lines get very long during peak times and they jack prices up around pay day. Many things come and go and will stay out of stock for ages. Still competitive with off base but always worth a double check.
They are really good at keeping things in stock
Usually doesn’t have what I’m looking for and they close early. I like Costco more for sure, the commissary is great for convenience but with my large family bulk shopping is better for us
Its the worst place to buy, you have to pay high prices and you have to pay de rent of the supermarket because they charge you in your ticket, incredible
Whoever prepares the fish needs to be retrained. The cuts are often sloppy and our recent salmon piece still has scales on it. I get not de-boning it, but please sell good cuts of fish that are de-scaled.
Clean, but it didnt get a 5 star rating because the check out lines were to long.
Prices are good but double check those expiration dates...
Standard commissary but people dont know how to control their shopping carts
Right now theyre doing a great job with capacity control and social distancing procedures. In addition to that, theyre super professional. I went in for some ramen, crackers, and water and all if those items were really easy to find. However, one problem that is really common is that some of the other customers struggle with situational awareness and can end up blocking other customers from moving through the aisle. I would recommend being courteous and moving your cart as far over to one side as possible so that people who are trying to move through the store quickly can do so.
This Comissary is the best one of them all. Only thing I would recommend is to have more self check out registers because some of employees who work cash registers are rude. Other than that its great!
Love the experience.
Store in decent shape. Selection and prices are pretty fair as well. Staff is super helpful if you have a question as well. The only drawback I have ever had is that the store is too small for an entire division to shop at in my opinion. Can get quite crowded at peak hours making for longer waits.*Edit July 2021 1 star drop. Check the expiration dates. I recently purchased dairy products/lunch meats that you would expect to stay good for a week without need to check dates, whelp I played myself.*
The best exchange Ive ever been to!
Great place. Not as culturally stocked, not sure if thats the correct wording, but I just expected a larger variety, especially considering the Asian influence in Hawaii.
Not great, needs to have cleaner food options. More grass fed and organic items.
Depending on the time of the day or month the wait outside can be a bit agitating, however considering covid right now completely understandable. Always clean, most staff are friendly and helpful. And its always clean.
Wack! Bagger dude got snippy because I only tipped a dollar........I only purchased 2 items!!!
Commissary is always well stocked with local fare and mainland favorites.
The highlight of this grocery store is the fast checkout lines, bag service and fair pricing. A solid choice.
I dont understand why the shelves are always empty. Also it really bugs me how they have 3 signs about tipping the bagger. Its manipulation at its finest. Dont force me to tip. Give me the option. I would gladly bag my own groceries
Keep up the good work!
Convenient, clean, one-stop shop.
Never really have a bad experience here.
Cheap stuff you can get during the pandemic
Always busy. Prices can vary. Sometimes cheaper than outside stores, sometimes not... although the lines are always long, they move pretty quickly. The store is always nice and tidy and the produce seems fairly fresh. Selection is good, youre able to find some brands or products you cant find outside. Overall pleased to be able to shop on base.
Everyone was so much more friendly here! Even the customers! Parking is easy and they had eveything we needed. (We usually shop at the commissary on Hickam but we started going here instead)
Pretty decent place. Weve never had rude service from anyone here. Its always busy, however its always a fast ring out. Normally we find everything we are looking for. Prices are really good.
Great place to purchase affordable groceries
Good stuff. Extremely busy on weekends obviously.
Expensive, long checkout lines, poor produce, inconsistent stock.
No issues. Customer service is always amazing!
Very helpful and pleasant staff. Always very clean and well stocked!
I love that each commissary is *more or less* laid out the same way, so that when I PCS to a new place, at least grocery shopping doesnt have to be different! I loved the variety of local produce here, and the hot and ready Hawaiian foods near the check out ! The shelves were stocked better than at the Fort Benning Commissary.
This commissary is very well stocked and has a fair selection of goods. My daughter loves the poke bowl in the seafood department. The atmosphere is good. Arielle in the seafood department is very helpful and friendly always has a smile on. I like that if they dont carry a product they will try to have it shipped in.
Nice enough!
Great place to shop... Shelves stocked, helpful customer service, and the best pricing around!
This one is set up like Quantico. There is a natural flow and courteous people. Not like the normal commissary on an Army base. This one actually works well. Not even a lot of screaming unruly kids. Good job Schofield
The variety is alright. Sometimes the fruit is a little past its date but I imagine its hard being on an island with imported fruits to keep them fresh. Its typically clean when I go
Hours are confusing. They say they open for early bird at 8am, but FYI its only 30 items or less. After 9am, you can purchase more than 30 items. The prices on items are extremely high.Need more lanes for self bagging. The produce is sometimes okay, sometimes not great. The employees are very nice.
Schofield commissary has the best marketable prices on food basic hygiene and some houseware items on the entire Island its clean full of seasonal fruits and veggies fresh crisp colorful bright juicy tasteful sweet-bitter tardy you name it they got it not to mention chips and popcorn cookies puddings case snacks sodas punches juices as well and Ice available its a full Grocery Store and More rows and rows of spacious Isles of food choices...varieties are endless... a Shoppers Paradise its what I would call it... accessible to military guest, family and personnel
Went groceries shopping, first in the door
The commissary is great. fresh-produce. They expand the commissary so much its beautiful. More varieties any kind of food that you would want, its there fresh always stock. When you want something and the employees that are stacking the shelves if you ask them to help you they take you directly the product. I love shopping at my commissary on Schofield Base
Produce are fresh
Was impressed with whole process since Covid 19. Excellent flow with max protection. I went to PH the experience was terrible. No hand sanitizer and the flow was terrible co.pared to Schofield.Thank you for taking care of ys.
Preferred commissary!! Great selection, usually shorter lines.
My favorite place to go for groceries shopping.
Stays well stocked. Fruit and vegetables fairly fresh. Only thing fresher is Costco and farmers market. Meat is still the cheapest. They have alternative (vegan/ vegetarian) options plentifully.
More & more items that you could count on being available you cannot find anymore. In Hawaii were used to waiting for shipments to come by boat but when I asked about a particular item I was told since there was a new person in charge of what was being purchased/stocked & many items have been eliminated.
Love the prices and quality of vegetables and fruits!
Rooms are old and worn out. I suspect pet urine spots on the carpet. Television are old and from time to time didnt function correctly. Room furniture old and out dated. Christmas day electricity was out for a good part of the day. Following the power outage the air conditioner was down for two days. Hotel accommodated me with 50 dollars. Charged me over 300 dollars daily during the days of less than standard service. Honestly the only pluses are the location of the hotel, and the staff is niceO yeah the store/cafeteria is over priced highway robbery. Seems like they are aware of how much your budget is and are out to milk you of every bit of your earnings. Lastly the washer and dryer on the facility is a dollar to wash and .25 for 8mins on the dryer. The dryers will take every bit of 1.50 to completely dry a small load of your clothes. As mentioned earlier very outdated appliances.
Its a pretty good commissary, nothing special about it. Parking lot is kind of an odd configuration and a little small. If you are willing to park near the exchange then youll never have a problem. It can get really crowded though which is why I prefer to Hickam commissary but its not realistic if you live on Schofield. Just avoid peak hours and youll be fine!
Stocked as usual with the necessary items needed. There is a farmers market going to be held tomorrow in the parking lot where the case lot sale is located. Great customer service.
Great prices for military and good selection.
Typical Commissary. Has a good selection of grocery items and Commissary Sushi is always a good choice. Only down side to this location is the very crowded/narrow isles.
This is a very good commissary to shop. People that work there are very friendly. Their meat department is generally well stocked as you would expect. They do special orders from the customer service area and notify you when your order is ready. They have a berry good deli and make some very awesome sandwiches.
I mostly go here for the sandwiches at the deli section. Always a good sandwich. Fairly priced and in a reasonable time. Expect a line if you are part of the 1130-1300 lunch crowd. Good service, friendly people. Only issue Ive ever had, was once, they forgot to put cheese on my order. But, human error. It happens. No reason to get bent out of shape. 4/5. Would recommend.
I believe a large shopping complex should consider either reducing registers not used while increasing automated self checkout, or manning all registers during peak shopping times.Clean complex, friendly staff at times. Consider a layout change.
Produce and many dry foods are iffy sometimes the produce spoils quicker than we can use it. Usually within a day. There have been bugs in some of the dry goods. Like weevils and such.
Im visiting my daughter and her family here and I love going shopping with her there. They have such a huge variety of national and international products. As a chef, thats the best part!!
Dont go on payday. The stock is only moderately better between. Who wants to pay $2.50 for a head of lettuce? I thought this place was supposed to be a superior option for families 🤔
Hit or miss with items being stocked. No longer carrying brands I like. Navy commissary has better variety and is my preferred store now.
My personal favorite place to get my groceries. Extremely well staffed, extremely friendly staff that wants you to get everything you want or need.My favorite thing about the store is the ethnic food isles which is hard to find, even in military commissaries.
Oh how I miss commissary shopping and this place was always nice. clean and great bargains on food but you do have to be active military or reserves. I cant wait until they let veterans go to the commissary I heard it in the works and it will definitely save me a ton o cash.
Serving the military and veterans well, except I was very disappointed that you closed so early on Christmas Eve.Not cool!
Shelves were kinda empty but thats par for the course. Mostly food items that need restocking with another delivery.....noticed wet ones back in stock. Slowly getting back to normal.
Pretty standard Army Commissary. Decent selection of food, nice workers but the interior of the building has a bit of a dated feeling to it. It is nice enough, but if I had to drive to this or the Hickam Commissary or Pearl Harbor Commissary I would go to those first.
I go there because its conveniently located and prices are better than local stores. Customer service is fine lines move quickly enough. Since selection of products varies from one commissary to another I have no complaints thats just how it is. My rating will stay at 3 stars even though they are doing renovations.
Steph a very upbeat clean store sufficient parking Ill be back again
Fruits and vegetables are not of the quality I want to feed myself or others. Always a little too crowded and someone is usually letting their kid make a scene. I will admit a great selection of condiments available. But otherwise not well stocked on wholesome, healthy, organic, or vegan foods (I am not a vegan others who shop with me are). Overall I only go here if I need something and happen to be right next to it late in the day.
Love the commissary. Its cheap and there is way more to choose from then going to any other stores. I particularly like the meats and the selection of healthier options within the isles.
Director McMinn and his staff have made the SB Commissary the best in DECCA!
It was a great experience. Loved there soda sales, great selection of things we needed.
Usually clean and well stocked, the commissary offers a convenient and economical choice to shop for groceries on base. Employees are friendly and courteous, there are always plenty of checkout lanes open, and baggers pack your groceries in an efficient manner, tying the bags so nothing falls out. A refreshingly enjoyable shopping experience.
Its a cheap place for groceries for military members.
I wish I would have gotten the lady’s name from the bakery. She went above and beyond for my sweet daughters birthday cake, and last minute. I explained that she had autism, loved bright colors, and mermaids. I could have cried when I saw how wonderful she made her cake! And she even gave my fussy 2 year old a free cookie while we were ordering the cake. What a wonderful, genuine, kind lady you have working at your bakery. Thank you so much for making my sweet baby’s 4th bday extra special!
Nice sized commissary... clean... and a decent selection of fresh fruits and veggies. Some products are high but, it’s Hawaii! 🤙🏽
Has everything you need and a good discount compared to shopping off post. It has a deli, sandwich counter, fish/poke counter and a small sushi place. Good selection overall.
Nice place, friendly service, but the quality of produce is poor. My produce last but one day in my home. I checked with others who share the same experience buying produce from here. However, despite the produce not staying fresh (that is with proper care) the food selection is good and the store is clean. It is cheap and saves you money all in all. They provide great service. But when bringing a family member (non-military) make sure they do not try to buy anything because they are not allowed. But they are welcome inside so that is nice.
Great place to shop. A little small but they maximize the space. Staff is helpful. Items are always marked. Great deals.
