Since getting into making my own cup of real coffee I have been trying out different roasters from across the country. I can pleasantly say that Black and White is definitely one of the best roasters that I have tried and marked them down on my list of go to roasters. A little expensive, but worth the money. Will be looking at their site to see if there are any ways to save on purchases. Regardless, excellent coffee and keep up the great work.
Went here after a disappointing experience at another local coffee spot close by. This place totally turned my mood around! Nice atmosphere, the staff were so friendly, and very quick service! Their coffees is locally roasted and has a beautiful flavor! I also got a slice of their apple cider cake that they bake at the other location and it was AMAZING!
I’m a huge coffee person and this place is what set me on my journey of single origin specialty coffee. I ditched the cream, ditched the sugar and learned to love coffee in its purest form...pour over and black. Of course they have great coffee drinks too, lattes, caps, chai, espresso, etc... and some great pastries. Highly recommend, love this place!
Im keeping the 5 stars because I do love your coffee but enough with the masks! I drove up and saw the sign and off I went to another place. Yes, you have the freedom to do so and so do I.
Awesome little store. They have your usual coffee, lattes, pour over and etc. they also have local foods to try and the 2 guys were here were really nice. I got a Peru pour over and it was promptly done. The coffee was decent however I wish it was a little stronger to have more flavor. I would stop by if I was around the area.
Honestly, B&W has the best lattes Ive ever had in my life. You wont be disappointed.
Love this shop. Great for working remotely for a few hours. Coffee is solid. Great craft coffee. Drove up from Raleigh to come to the main headquarters since they recently opened a new shop in DTR. staff is really friendly. Also I really enjoy the minimalist artwork. Definitely looking forward to coming again.
When it comes to roast profiles and the selection, there is no better place to visit. I usually go in and try one of the many coffees that B&W have on their pour over menu! I usually have a selection of 5-7 to choose from and the staff is incredibly helpful in helping me make a selection. Also, their espresso is dialed in to perfect and theres always new varieties to try :) The team is always friendly and helpful.
Had their coffee soda today and it was AMAZING! Cant wait to go back. Very nice crew.
Great coffee and some novel additions. Wish they had a bigger food selection but still highly recommended
Spectacular Coffee in WF, OMG!!!I am a bit of a coffee nut.. maybe bean is the better term?! This place is perfect! Their beans are amazing and the spot is ideal. The juxtaposition of modern niche organic coffee and espresso in the small town of Wake Forest is neat.Thank you for allowing my indulgence of caffeine in its best vessel!
Best cup of coffee Ive had anywhere in a long time. Simple goodness.
I would seriously give it more stars if I could. I love Black and White. They have my favorite coffee anywhere. Very high quality coffee beans and not too pricey comparatively. If you want a good recommendation, get an iced coffee with oat milk, its amazing!!!
New to the Raleigh area and it did not take long to fall in love with coffee here. While they do have lattes, this is not the place to get your super sugary drinks. Much more focused on the quality of the cup and serving really well balanced drinks.
No wait, no line, easy access. Coffee was great as was Staff. I will be back!
Adorable local Wake Forest coffee shop, downtown. Great Lattes and pour overs. I cant wait post-Covid to hang out there. Easy access and parking for a quick in and out. High quality coffees.
Amazing coffee every time! It’s rare to find a coffee shop that does everything well. From drip, to lattes, pour overs and nitro- It’s all amazing!
Just discovered this really cool little (and it is little) coffee shop in Wake Forest. Since its really a Coffee Rosters place, most of the shop is set up for that BUT that also means they have A LOT of cool coffees to chose from. Fantastic pour-over and some tasty muffins. A tad pricey, but a cool coffee shop.
I just tried your jakub lazuardi Indonesia, what an incredible coffee. You guys are world class!
Best coffee in Wake Forest! Knowledgeable and friendly staff, great variety of freshly roasted beans, and always a pleasant experience.
Delicious coffee! I feel lucky to have such an amazing, quaint coffee shop so close to my home. :) Plus the pandas in the coffee bags are super cute.
Lovely CortadaBeans are exquisite but expensive. The only thing that justifies that cost is the taste and aroma. - so not my daily go-to but I love this place.
Black and White coffee is basically that moment in Power Rangers when the individual rangers come together to form Megazord. (Or, if you like, that moment Lebron went to the Miami to from the Big 3). Kyle and Lem are both Barista World Champions who came together to make some of the best coffee in area. Its campion level coffee from people who wont be snobs about it to everyone who comes in. (But, if you want to geek out on taste notes, theyll be happy to oblige)The space is small, but they are working to expand and remodel from the previous look when it was Back Alley Roasters.Baked goods selection is usually limited, but what they do have is still strong (pun intended).Tip: If the Berriti coffee is in season, get that. Also, word is they have an instant coffee packet coming that is changing the game (Use it for camping or keep it in your bag in case of a coffee-emergency )
5 stars! The coffee is excellent and the baristas helpful and informative. Stopped in after hearing good things about this coffee and was not disappointed. Nice spot with some outdoor seating and lots of fun merch inside.
I had an americano that was somewhat bitter.
Loved my latte. They ran out of pastries.
Smaak my n Engel het op my tong gepiepie- absolutely amazing from a couple of coffee freeks out of the states after a looong bike ride we approve be back tomorrow
Very nice staff and the coffee was great.
Awesome coffee best of the best.n
Nice staff- excellent coffee/variety
Neat area and good coffee. Not sure how they will manage when it gets cold, as of my visit they had no interior seating. It’s good to support small local business - I wish them best of luck!
I had returned today that nthis terrific coffee place. My serving is great. I recommend this friendly Mom And Pop place.
Im by no means a coffee expert but their beans and single origin coffees are some of the best Ive had! Helpful staff as well.
The people seemed nice, food is alright, but the so called nitro coffee was disgusting. It tasted like literal water with sugar. No creaminess, no foam. At some point it was pretty much like an iced tea. I havent tried their other coffees though.
Coffee was quality. Enjoyed very much.
One of the best 3rd wave roasters in the country.
I try to find excuses to come to B&W as often as I can. Theres always a new pour-over to try, with excellent high-quality beans that are expertly roasted. The staff is universally excellent, with both an authentic love of coffee and desire to share that love with others. The creativity and quality on display in the seasonal beverage options is a standout, with seemingly wild combinations like cold brew coffee and lemonade that end up working incredibly well.My suggestion is to order a pour-over that looks appealing off the little wooden boards by the register, as well as a shot of the single-origin espresso of the day. I think that gives a good tour of the quality of the coffee and service!
The coffee is delicious and the staff is always friendly. We take home beans for the French press and enjoy a latte there when we need more beans.
They make the most delicious breve Ive ever had! Sleek and simple
Delicious coffee! Neat little place and once covid is handled I would love to go back and spend a few hours drinking through the menu.
Coffee was good. Atmosphere felt a little off- when you walk in its not clear where you order. It didnt feel inviting. Id be willing to try it again. May have just been an off day and there was only one person making the orders and ringing up.
Man what a grand cup of Joe.
Great coffee! Cant wait to go back.
This place is more interested in being woke than in the established science about masks. Wouldnt accept a to-go order without making a healthy person put a mask on for 30 seconds to pay in an EMPTY shop. Ridiculous.
Nice, quaint coffee shop, with hometown feel
The absolute best lattes my wife and I have ever had. Just a perfect velvety texture and phenomenal balance of flavor, and that was with almond milk, which is way harder to accomplish. We stopped in on our way back home to VA, but well make it a point to stop by whenever were remotely nearby. In the meantime, a few bags of their coffee might have to suffice.
Best cup of coffee in Wake Forest. Love this little place. Have to stop by anytime Im in town.
The coffee was a fast favorite and amazing quality! Even with how good the coffee is the staff and environment is really what makes it! Everyone is so nice and the best baristas. My coffee was knocked over and they made a new one even though it was my fault. Best service in the triangle!
Awesome drip coffee 😍
Wow, the coffee here is pretty amazing. I was really surprised by the clear fruity flavor of the house blend and greatly enjoyed my Chai Tea Latte as well. My wife had the Vanilla Latte and liked it enough to have a second. We’re definitely going back in the very near future.
12/10 would recommend ordering beans from B&W. To totally make this about me, Ive been trying to be more mindful of where I spend my money and buying from independent, local, and/or black-owned businesses whenever possible. I found Black and White online while searching for the best black-owned coffee roasters and oh gosh, am I happy I did. I ordered 2 bags to get started, The Original and Martir. Theyre both V good, but The Original is one of my favorite coffees - ever. I just ordered a 2 lb bag on the 10th and it was delivered on the 14th - with Covid shipping delays? Super happy with beans and service. Thank you!
Got the Iced Vanilla Latte and it was a PERFECT mix of sweet and strong. They made it quick too. I liked the ambience; its hipster, industrial and everyone is very helpful and nice.
Putting creamer in B&W coffee is like painting a diamond in an attempt to make it prettier.
Finally found a great local coffee shop! Now if your knowledge on coffee is a cup of Folders this may not be your place. The shop is really nice and modern, very hip. Not that many tables inside but other than that could not complain. Had a delicious Brown Sugar Latte with a chocolate muffin. Great way to start my morning!
Very good coffee but there are a lot of great coffee roasters out there. Some of the worst customer experience I’ve ever encountered. I wasted hours of my time on multiple emails, phone calls and personal visits to their shop, reaching out to ownership attempting to set up a commercial account with ZERO response.Really unprofessional and disrespectful.
Do not waste your time or money. They just changed ownership, so I hear it used to be good but it was terrible. They’d recently switched their menu so I was trying to be patient but it took nearly 30 minutes to get 4 frozen drinks and an iced coffee. They also cost me $30 and didn’t taste very good. The “frozen hot chocolate” was ok but nothing special, especially for a place located in a chocolate factory. The iced coffee was very weak and tasteless. They had to measure and weigh all the ingredients and there was only 1 guy doing the frozen drinks. He was the same guy taking orders and he kept stopping to take new orders. 5 orders that came in after mine were done before I got all of mine. The most annoying was when the guy stopped making our drinks to take an order and then gave one of them to that customer!! I said something and he just said it was a new menu.I asked why the other guy couldn’t help him (as he was literally just standing there looking into space) and he said he was doing frozen drinks and orders, as if there would be some penalty for the other guy daring to help someone with their job.The only positive I can say is that it’s in cool old building made into the chocolate factory with the coffee bar inside. I don’t think the factory is the same company.
Excellent coffee, friendly staff, and great service. Only downside here is the limited seating availability and lack of evening hours. You cant go wrong with anything here, but the espresso in particular shines - its sweet and smooth without being sour. Their cold brew is also among the best Ive had. Easily the best coffee available in Wake Forest.
Just went in and ordered a latte with half the syrup. When I got my drink and it was too sweet for me, Ruth Ann immediately remade it (and didn’t make me feel weird about it, which I am really thankful for!) We have always had a great experience with the bar. Looking forward to enjoying the sunshine with this perfect vanilla latte with half the syrup.
I have been a long time coffee lover and prefer the best quality. Coffee is one of those things I consider to be my specialties as a local guide and customer.Black and White Coffee Roasters (formerly Back Alley) has been one of the top notch coffee stops for quality, price, service, and (most importantly) consistency. Environment is very welcoming and the staff is beyond friendly. Their revolutionary Nitro Cold Brew will amaze the palates of both beer and coffee-lovers.
This is my favorite coffee shop in the triangle. In house roasting, knowledgeable and friendly staff, nice seating area, and above all, excellent espresso, pour overs and cold brew. I haven’t found anything that I don’t like here.I also buy their beans for brewing espresso at home. The beans are a couple bucks more than a bag of Counter Culture, but I like them better.I recommend the cappuccino on cool days and the nitro cold brew on hot days. Their vanilla latte is excellent and not overly sweet.
This place is great! Staff is friendly, store is clean, atmosphere is welcoming, coffee tastes great. Ended up buying a bunch for family as well and they all loved it too. Location is a little bit cramped but not unbearable. Make sure you check out their online store also, they deliver promptly with great customer service. Great job! Highly recommend!
*UPDATE*: the management has taken this recommendation seriously — the baristas have been pleasant and friendly! Great to see such an amazing coffee roaster put in effort towards customer service. As always, they continue to make great espresso and roast exceptional beans. As a weekly customer of Black & White, it pains me to give the Wake Forest location 2 stars. The coffee is amazing — every single type of bean is amazing and their curated drinks are delicious. However, their customer service is severely lacking. Due to the poor attitudes of the baristas, I go out of my way to drive to the Rolesville Black & White to avoid the Wake Forest location. The employees at Rolesville have a much nicer demeanor. It’s a shame and I hope this situation improves in the future. An inviting atmosphere would make this location a very special establishment in the heart of Wake Forest.
Best pour-over coffee in Wake Forest (and probably in the Raleigh area, in North Carolina, and maybe beyond). Found this place after living in the area for nearly a year, and the coffee is exceptional. I think I got drip rather than pour-over, and it was full-bodied and robust without being at all bitter. I bought a cup and brought it home to my wife, who can be hard to please when it comes to coffee. She took one sip and said, That is really good! Looking forward to going back.
Great coffee
World champion barista roasts. This place is great. Coffee is like anything else, you get what you pay for. I am glad my wife and I were able to visit. Though priced on the higher side, the beans are direct from the farmers. The atmosphere at the store is awesome as well. If you like coffee shops, this is a must.
I come here often. Its always incredible coffee and a great staff. Hard to go other places after having their coffee. Pastries are great too!
Oh my goodness, this is the best coffee around!! The shop is quaint and inviting, the staff friendly and can explain things to non coffee junkies without making you feel inadequate. I have NEVER had coffee this good and then try the Mocha and youll be hooked! Thanks so much for sharing your talents!!
Consistent quality coffee - hands down the best in Wake Forest. Perfectly chill atmosphere for work & play. Kind staff. Clean bathrooms. Indoor & outdoor seating with flowers. What more could you want? ✨
They have AMAZING coffee! Refills on coffee are only $1 so it’s a great place to hang out and do some work.
This place is great. Great staff, great service, amazing coffee.I’m updating this review 2 years later. This place is still amazing—so amazing that I still order their coffee beans to have them shipped to me in Vermont now that I have moved to the Burlington area. I simply haven’t been able to find a coffee place with beans as well done as B&W up here.
My favorite coffee place in the world. I say that without any hyperbole. It’s incredible.
Has been a favorite spot of mine for a while now. The coffee is consistently delicious! If you like craft coffee and want to take home some beans this is the place.
Some of the best coffee Ive ever had! That also have tons of killer roasts to choose from. They are top ranking for a reason! You wont be disappointed
Best coffee in Raleigh hands down. Staff is great and very friendly. I have only been to the wake forest location
Incredible coffee. I honestly prefer their roasting to Counter Cultures. Knowledgeable, friendly staff and a great low key atmosphere
Can’t say enough about this place! A coffee lovers dream. Fresh beans of many origins roasted on site. Top notch equipment, great decor, awesome owners and staff. I want to say the best in the triangle.
Astonishingly good coffee, great service, lovely atmosphere. I love it here! The Nitro is definitely my favorite coffee right now.
Neat, comfortable place to meet with friends or for a casual business meeting. The coffee was very good, I got an iced macchiato. I dont go to coffee shops a lot, but Ill be back.
Attention residents of Wake Forest!! You have been blessed with a top notch specialty coffee location. Great single origin offerings. Phenomenal service that provides a very inviting approach to some of the best coffee in the world.
The vanilla latte is delicious, as are their baked goods. They have different kinds of milk for those who dont like or cant have regular milk. They have seating in and outside of the shop, and havent been too busy when I have been there.
Quite possibly one of the best coffee shops in the triangle area. Exceptional coffee at average prices with friendly staff and a great atmosphere. Also the whole place is very clean. If you live in the triangle and enjoy coffee, go check it out.
Nitro Brew is good. I get it, basic is cool. Just was hoping for a snack to go along with my coffee.
Nice variety of coffee from many places in the world. Usually roasted light to bring out the nuances. Pleasant seating if you choose to have a beverage there.
