Its really a shame that I have to leave this review because Id much rather support a small, local business, especially if it is black-owned. But to be honest I cant see myself returning to this store again. The person working when I went in with my two kids wasnt the friendliest but what really annoyed me is the insane markup. I get that as a small business, you have to do this to an extent in order to maintain your physical presence, but to charge more than double for something is manipulative to both kids and parents. Sadly I wont be returning to this seemingly charming little store.
It’s really ashamed, this could be a nice place...Very expensive and awful service! We were expecting a nice gift wrap for a present after the price that we paid, and it is all extra...
Was excited to shop here and support a black owned business, as a black family, only to be disappointed at the extreme mark up in prices. Ended up buy a stuffed animal for 136$ for our toddler that we later found on Amazon for 20$, along with other way overpriced toys. On top of that, store was a little dusty. Won’t be shopping here again.
We’ve been shopping many years at Tugooh Toys & love the curated selection of items - Haba, Brio, Melissa & Doug, Lego et al. as well as fun little trinkets by the cash register!
Owner Grace is a crook & unethical. Don’t shop here. I use to work here when I was a college student at Howard University in 2014-2015. I was a key holder for Grace and worked so hard because I was happy to support a small and Black owned business. Tugooh toys wasn’t doing so great and instead of admitting that she couldn’t afford to pay me anymore, Grace created a whole story and accused me of stealing money from the register. I asked for countless proof of this allegation, and Grace wouldn’t give it to me. She said if she did she would report it to the police (give the police the evidence and not show me) and I wouldn’t get my last pay check until after an investigation. I told her cool, do that then. Instead, she created further lies and tried to convince me to take my last pay check and go our separate ways (I was heading home for the summer). I never got that last paycheck, she never showed any proof of me stealing (there wasn’t any) and Grace essentially stole over $600 in wages from me. Don’t shop here, she’s also very anti-Black American as she is not from here and has made countless racist remarks against the Black American community. She did the same thing to another employee (lied about catching them stealing and then fired them) instead of just admitting that her business was slow and she had to lay us off.
If you want to pay double, literally DOUBLE the price for toys, then shop here. I bought a Monopoly Game yesterday for $34 and realized when I got home that the exact same game was $17 on Target. Same with the LOL doll - $24 at this store and $12 at Target. This is unacceptable price gouging and shady business behavior. Even if you have to pay a Georgetown rents, that shouldn’t give you the right to manipulate parents and kids to the tune of doubling prices! I usually go to Sullivan’s and went here specifically to try to support a small business, but will never go back. If you want to support local, Sullivan’s is a much better option - polite staff, better selection, and much more reasonable prices.
Tugooh Toys is one of the few toy shops in the Georgetown area. Its a small shop off of M Street, but they make good use of the space. They sell stuffed animals of all sizes, games, costumes, etc. My toddler loved visiting because they have a kid doctors office and a kids grocery store set up!
It is the best toy store I have been to in a while, was hard to get my 2 year old son out. They have a good selection of high end toys made in Europe and USA!, did I mention Eco-friendly too! The store is well curated with tons of toys on the floor for kids to play with. Staff extremely knowledgeable and helpful.
Well-curated little toy store with a friendly staff. Easily found something for the little one. If you are looking to buy toys from a store and not from a website or big box department store, this is your place. Especially good for high quality toys for young and elementary school age children (0-8).
Manager or just an employee, whoever I encountered while I was there was extremely rude.
Absolutely love the selection of toys for all ages. Also there book section which has a decent selection of books and some that have to do with DC if you are a tourist.
Great selection of toys for all ages and the staff was extremely helpful in recommending options for toddlers. The free gift wrapping was very convenient too!
There are various types of interesting toys, educational, and puzzles there. Staff are very helpful, they are one of the best toy stores in Seattle.
Amazing store and great selection of toys also great people amazing customer service.
Manager incredibly rude. Where is the holiday spirit?
This toy store was under construction (front entrance) when we visited. Stock was low and staff wasnt very helpful in finding things.
