We visited District Doughnut while we were in DC. This particular location is hidden in an alley behind the Ukrainian Embassy. We came in when the store just hit opening time, thus coffee wasn’t ready. However, the donuts were ready to order. Due to the pandemic we weren’t able to eat inside. The donuts are big and bit airy, eight different varieties to choose from. Cherry Blossom and Cookies&Cream is good donuts to try.
Starting with the positive, the two ladies on duty were very nice, and welcoming. Unfortunately, I didnt care for either of the two doughnuts that I tried (vanilla, and lemon pie). Dough is a bit too chewy--lemon leaves an odd aftertaste. No desire to finish either--second photo is what Im discarding..
Usually the donuts that Ive had on the East Coast are disappointing compared to my best experiences on the West Coast (Voodoo in Portland and Top Pots in Seattle), but this place was fantastic. Their creme brûlée donut was expertly prepared and had a great mix of textures and flavors that helped it avoid the cloying sweetness that a lot of other dessert places suffer from. Sort of expensive for the accoutrements so just get a donut, which will be well worth the price tag (trust me).
Best donuts i ever ate in my life, worth the high price.
Don’t be fooled by the fancy display and good looks. Some of the worst donuts I’ve had in years. Such a disappointment. Ended up throwing away most of them.
The best doughnuts in town!! Forget about mediocre Dunkin D and other shops. Always fresh and tasty. Love their cinnamon roles and I wish they offer it everyday, not only on weekends.
We walked all the way there with two kids in a stroller just to find a sold out sign. So disappointing. Had to explain to our five year old why he wasnt getting any donuts. It didnt go well 😪***Update*** after being filled with disappointment, the CEO made it up to us with a free dozen donuts. We are pleased with both the service and the donuts! Thank you! Well be back ☺️
Their creme brulee doughnut is honestly to die for !!!
We went there Sat afternoon...I was really looking forward to it but once inside the store, I was a bit disappointed. There were only 4 selections and just normal stuff like vanilla and chocolate. We got the maple syrup flavor. Its cake batter based and its soft and not chewy but almost a bit too sweet with all the glazes. We both prefer Duck Donuts, many their donuts remind us the beach! :)
Check for happy hour specials. Get a creme brulee donut for the fun of seeing someone blowtorch a donut.
Nothing makes my kids (and me to be honest) happier than a stop at District Doughnut. Their doughnuts are the best and coffee delicious! Can’t ask for anything more!
Doughnut was delicious. Service was good. Hot cocoa was horrible. A little overpriced as well.
Good place to explore history
The doughnuts were sooooo yummy!!
One of my favorite places in Georgetown! Not only do they have amazing donuts, but the staff is always SO friendly! Highly recommend!
Way overpriced for stale doughnuts.
Didn’t live up to the hype and a bit overpriced.
Great location, good donuts, hidden entrance, cool staff 😎
The absolute best cinnamon rolls ever! Sorry no pictures b/c I ate them too fast!
These donut are creative and scrumptious! Looove the apple, funfetti and maple pecan. We tried these while visiting Georgetown and brought a few boxes home as gifts. Highly recommend them.
The donut was just ok, basically a lot of sugar with a few cranberries. Not a huge improvement over Dunkin, Krispy Kreme or your local bakery. Five stars nonetheless, because the woman working inside was very nice.
I only had the brown butter donut and it was totally delicious! However what fascinated me was the board they had on the wall of the map of the world and people had stuck pins over where they were from! Ive seen that before, a long time ago and love the idea. There was even someone from Fiji! And another person from the part of Kenya I am from!!!
Amazing doughnuts with a lot of unique flavors. Ran into the owner there a while ago and he was super nice!
Delicious donuts and coffee.
Ive ordered from them twice using postmates and the donuts are fantastic! I got the dozen assortment and none of them were a disappointment, all were fantastically delicious. My favorites were the cherry blossom and the Vanilla bean cream brulee, I highly recommend them!
If you want quality dough and quality service, go District Doughnut. You will not be disappointed when you head to Cadys Alley and find this hidden gem. Score that parking spot and make your way down, its worth it. Their unending creativity comes through in the weekly specials in addition to the already existing goodness found in their original line up. You can do no wrong. Thanks for the always gracious hospitality, District Doughnut!
My family has enjoyed this place and the donuts were good. Location is really nice as well.
Sweet Potato Pie doughnut is everything.
They have new nice style and everything is branded I like it
The doughnut flavors were very tasty, but the texture was chewy. The doughnuts had the consistency of over-baked cake. I will not be returning.
I had the creme brulee donut, absolutely fantastic! They burn the sugar in front of you, quite a show!
We try locally made donuts when we travel. We picked glazed and brown butter. This is by far the worst. Very much hollow and rubbery. Wasn’t even able to slice it into pieces for samples. After one bite, no one wanted more. Wasted calories! One star for friendly staffs. What a shame!
District Donut has hands down the best actual donuts in DC. Their flavors skew more traditional than a lot of the other players and thats not a bad thing. Its not kitschy or cute but theyre always fresh and the workers are always friendly. Try a creme brulee donut and impress the other customers when they pull out the blow torch!
Very nice and low crowd! Love the donuts- if you like strawberry icing try theirs it’s wonderful!
The milk chocolate coated donut is the absolute best donut i have ever had... no joke, and I have had a lot of donuts in my life. Wish there were some of these in Florida.
Great doughnuts and the customer service at the Georgetown location is phenomenal, a real pleasure to be around.
I thought this place was amazing the way they make donuts!
Great doughnut. Worth a visit
Really good donuts, even the basic brown sugar donut is good. They have limited edition flavors every season, so try them while you can! Service can be kind of un-friendly but they get the job done at the end of the day.
The key lime pie and Nutella s’mores donuts were really good
The almond joy is amazing!!
First time at this location and it was beyond excellent! Doughnuts were delicious, (Baklava was top) filling, and some, even melt in your mouth. An array of flavors to choose from and friendly staff to assist. Sifting through balancing my accounts the next day, I thought I was over-charged, but the helpful and patient staff sought out my missing receipt and respectfully showed me I paid the correct amount. (P.SMilitary Friendly) Will return.
Very nice location! Donuts are great! BUT the flavored ice tea was so watery, a straight waste of $$
Awesome donuts, just wish they made them fresh in store
Amazing doughnuts, unique flavors, extremely friendly staff, great prices. My first time here. Theres also a free loyalty points program
Completely overpriced, limited flavors, too doughy. They were also cold and unappetizing. I would never go back here - I feel robbed.
Try the everything bagel donut. Seems odd but it is quite good.
The doughnuts arent too sweet with a very nice flavor, which is a huge plus for me. Theyre on the pricey side, but that can be expected considering the location. Its definitely worth it
Excellent doughnut experience. Delicious selection that tastes fresh even when theyre about to close. Which I think says something about the product.
I love these doughnuts, and ive never seen someone torch my donut in front of me until now. That makes the donut so much tastier. They have many different flavors from the norm but they are extremely good. A must for any tourist or DC resident.
Off the beaten path, but worth seeking out! Absurdly good donuts and pretty solid cold brew-- go reward yourself!
Are the doughnuts better than Dunkin and Krispy Kreme? Yes, but at $2.50 + per doughnut they had better be. Would I go back at that price? No, I only went there this time because it was close to a place I needed to go to. There doughnuts are good but not amazing, the coffee was good but not the best Ive ever had and the tea was just average for salad water. My bill for two doughnuts a coffee and a tea was about $12. I left feeling like i wanted to kick a baby. At those prices something I ordered should have been the best.
Very interesting flavors. The creme brûlée was great. Staff was very friendly
If they make the doughnut more soft and fluffy, then it will be 5 star. The ones that I got was dry. The sweetness was just the right amount. A little pricey, 6 doughnuts, I paid $19 something cents.
Had the Funfetti doughnut and it was delish! Somehow they manage to deliver perfect flavor and sweetness without the gross sugary aftertaste some doughnuts have. Cadys alley is also a fun street to walk down.
The doughnuts are great and live up to expectations, they also arent so expensive for the quality and the size. There isnt much seating space in the store, but there are a lot of paintings and its a great place to take pictures or study if you get a seat.
Great service. Friendly and passionate. They were slightly over prices. Te doughnuts were solid.
LOVE this shop! The doughnuts are not only delicious but UBER fresh! The sign on sending me down the alley was BONUS - I never knew that alley of shops existed! And to boot - the staff at this location is DARLING!
Creative and tasty toppings... unfortunately the doughnuts themselves are nothing too special, and (at least at this location) not very fresh. No matter how good the toppings, fillings, etc. are, the price cant really be justified for doughnuts that have been sitting out until they are cold and dense.
Delicious donuts, served with a free scoop of snarl. Get your sugar high and a hipster scowl in one fell swoop - what a deal!
Its a little pricy, but well worth it. The donuts are so good! I wouldnt expect a seat inside though, its pretty small with a tiny seating area.
Amazing and unique doughnuts. Definitely need to try if youre in the area.
Amazing Doughnuts! Well priced.
Doughnuts were awesome, clientele was a little annoying 😆, but the doughnuts were worth it
The flavor backs up their ingredient list as high quality. Great craftsmanship and presentation. They cater, have espresso, and a fing blowtorch for the crem brulé. Nice touch. Friendly staff and a killer soundtrack not too loud. Could use a little more seating and a self-serve water. Save yourself from Georgetown cupcake and come get your sweet tooth satisfied.
Not a grand selection, but a staggeringly disappointed image of only 8 different doughnuts to choose from. For the minuscule amount of options to choose from, and the horrendous ‘so called deals’ like a bakers dozen, there is no advantage to the total price. I honestly wish I could have seen a succeeding business. If improvements are not made, I would wish for others to make better decisions, like going to a Dunkin doughnuts.
Go way out of my way to come here to find a “closed for the day, will be back tomorrow!” sign. Cool, you’ll be back tomorrow, I won’t
Sub-par donuts that are hella overpriced, go to Krispy Kreme instead. Way too doughy 😒
The donuts were pretty good. They carmelize the sugar on top of the creme brulee doughnut to order. That was a nice touch.
For the cost, I wasnt really wowed. The staff was uninviting and parking is non existent.
The creme brûlée doughnut is amazing! They blow torch it right in front of you. Highly recommend it!
Getting the crembrule donut torched in front of you and then eating the crunchy shell is worth getting another after eating one.
Voted the best for good reason! These bakers are really inventive and good at what they do. From the creme brulee doughnut, where they actually use a food grade blowtorch to caramelize the sugar on top, to the cannoli doughnut that has it down, even to the mini chocolate chips, this place is legit. Although they are a little pricey for doughnuts, their product is in a class of its own. Please go visit them and try their doughnuts. Youll be really glad you did.
Good doughnuts and great vibes. Check it out.
Fairly limited selection when I visited, but wonderful staff, never too crowded, and great flavors.
The vanilla beam creme brulee is really special. nothing like it.
Service was friendly. Adored the key lime pie doughnut, but the dulche de leche, not as much. Very cute location!
Overpriced, doughy&chewy, dull flavors. I wont go back again.
Delicious donuts and the teas were light and refreshing
Doughnuts are bomb af here. But dont get too many. Not only will you be a little sugar rushed, but they are expensive (to a scholarship uni student) $24 for a freaking half dozen. I mean, theyre good, but not gold flakes good! No stars for price, bc expensive, thats why. But they were good, so 3 stars. This is where my scholarship money goes, and my medical bills.
Great donuts and well served Compass Coffee.
Best doughnuts Ive ever had, paired with delicious coffee.
Average donuts. Old fashioned was dry.
