Unacceptable service!! I brought in two mowers and a weed eater. First mower that was repaired needed a new wheel kit. (Wheels and the brackets that mount to the deck) when I got the call to pick it up it was obvious all the did was slap new wheels on the bent brackets and charged 125 dollars for the job. The weed eater I wanted new spark plug, carb cleaned, and a new handle. They ordered a new carb without talking to me and came up with a 125 dollar bill on a weed eater that you can buy new for 140 bucks..... at this point its been 6 weeks and the last mower hadnt been touched so I took it with me when I got the weed eater back.

I had them pick up my mower for repair. About 2-3 weeks later it was still not worked on. There was some miscommunication and eventually, the owner contacted me. He was professional and apologized for the delays. He took time to understand the repair needed and the time frame. They returned my mower but it was still not fixed correctly. The next time they delivered it the repair was much better. Unfortunately the mower self propelled-drive which was non-functional works but has extremely limited speed control. It’s a 1-5 speed setting with two functional speeds after repair- slow walk and almost a jog. I contacted the owner and have confidence they will make it right.

I will start off by saying this review is not based of a finished repair. The only reason I took my pressure washer here is because the company I bought it from told me they were the only authorized repair shop for my washer that needed a warranty claim. I cannot say that I’ll ever bring anything else here in the future. When we took the PW in, they told us it would be 2 weeks for the repair. But at 2 weeks when we hadn’t heard anything, we called to check on it. At that time they told us that it wasn’t supposed to be done in 2 weeks, rather it was going to be a 2 week wait until they could even look at it! Once they looked at it, they’d have to get the fix approved through the warranty department and that would be another 5-7 days before they knew if the claim had been approved!! At the 2.5 week mark, it still hadn’t even been looked at (a Thursday) and the lady said it might be Monday before it could be seen!! My fix should be fairly simple: a bolt broke off in the hole. The engine works fine except that water now sprays everywhere because of where the bolt came out. Seems to me it would be a simple 10-15 minute look to see what needs to be fixed and then they could send off the request for repair. That could’ve been done when it arrived and then we could’ve waited the 7 days to hear back and it would’ve been about fixed in the initial 2 week time frame. But as the lady kept telling me, “we go in order of what comes in, no matter how quick a job might be, we only go in order of what comes in.” That is so dumb to me!! I cannot believe that it’s going to take more than a month to fix a bolt!! If I had had a choice, I wouldn’t have choose this shop because of similar reviews to mine. I’m not impressed and hope to never need another fix since this is my only option with a warranty fix!!!UPDATE: This repair took almost 6 weeks total and once they had the approval to fix the PW, it took a matter of a couple of hours. If you ask me, that’s ridiculous. I understand that there’s red tape with the company, but if it was that quick of a diagnosis/fix, it should not have taken that long. I’ve had BIG projects that I’ve needed to do with this power washer that I needed to get done this summer, and now my summer has been wasted away waiting for a quick fix! Also be ware, if you leave a 1 star review before your fix is complete, you’ll get hassled by the owner for it. We won’t be back if we can help it.

I cant believe I didnt read the reviews on this place before I took my mower in. I have an older MTD riding mower that I needed a snow blower attachment installed and so I dropped them both off. However, the mower and blower are older units and I was not even sure if all of the parts were there to have it installed. I asked them to please check it out and to let me know if it was going to cost more than $300 because thats all I had. 4 weeks later I got a call telling me that I was going to have to buy a part that would cost almost a thousand dollars to complete the job. So, I told them there was no way I could afford that and to just leave it as is and that I would come and pick it up. he said that they were going to charge me 300 dollars for the work that was already done? I asked them what work did they do since it had not been repaired and they told me that it was how much it cost to take off the mowing deck. So I told them that they werent supposed to take anything off or do anything until they called me if it was over $300 to completely repair. now they are saying I cant even come pick it up unless they pay them extra to have the deck put back on. so, it would literally cost me almost four or five hundred dollars to get the mower back in the same exact condition it was when I dropped it off. I just dont understand this type of practice in business. Its a typical bait and switch repair shop and according to the other reviews Im not the only one who has been screwed over by this company.

This is the type of shop we do not need, it puts a bad reputation on mower name brands and other shops in the area, the place should get finned for it looking like the south end of Peoria. On another note, my church took their zero turn from a transmission leak. They took it in, called us a month later saying its fixed, when we got it, it was leaking much worse than it was, and was surprisingly really clean. I think they should get out of the repair business and stick to a power washing.

Back in April/May I went in and asked to purchase a used mower and they gave me 3 options with in my price range, good service. Recently I went back in because I was having some issues with the blade. Told them to call me if the repair was over $100. They kept my mower for 3 weeks since their tech was on vacation. Total cost of repair was $46.38 and I couldnt be happier with the results. So far the people I have spoken to were very friendly and understood my financial situation to help me get the best for what I have. Would recommend to friends or family in the area.

I had a push mower 2 weeks old which menards told me they were the authorized repair shop for. After a month of waiting, they told me the cause of it flying apart was lack of lubrication. The oil level was checked 5 minutes before it flew apart. Briggs and Stratton told me i could take it to another dealer for another opinion. Small engine specialty said ok after I paid them $30.00. Once again, it was 2 weeks old and under warranty. I would NEVER do business with this company again!

I have been coming to this business for a very long time now. While the turn around time in the busy mowing months may be a little bit on the slower side I know that I am not the only person who likes to use small engine specialty for my lawn and garden repairs. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable the inside is clean and presents some of Husqvarna and Toro mowers and hand held equipment. The technitions are very knowledgeable and answer any questions they are able to. In all my years of coming to small engine specialty I have never had a bad experience.

My NEW mower was under warranty and I had a VERY MINOR problem. The warranty company informed me I HAD to use Small Engine Specialties in Washington ILI dropped off my mower and asked them to call me when they got to it. I never received ONE call from Small Engine Specialties in Washington IL, even after calling multiple times asking to speak with whomever would be working on my mower and confirming this was a warranty job only-no non-warranty work. A WHOLE MONTH PASSED and I finally called them to be informed it was complete. The warranty had been denied and I had to pay $100 to pick up due to old gas problems. (the mower NEVER had old gas and was starting and running perfect!) no parts replaced-but $100 charge. I offered to pay the $35 diagnosis fee-the owner, Terry, refused, ignored my calls-laughed at me and ignored me when I showed up at the shop. Sadly and unbelievably, I am not exaggerating anything here. Called the warranty co to complain and found out they never even filed a warranty claim!! In the end, my MINOR ISSUE remains. I will pay out of pocket to have Weilands fix it. NO WAY Small Engine Specialties in Washington IL or Small Engine Specialties in Chillicothe, IL (same business) will ever have possession of my mower again.
