*THIS STORE IS NOW PERMANENTLY CLOSED FOREVER (as of December 15th)!*Facts about this Kmart:-Operated as W.T. Grant in 1971, along with the rest of the shopping center before Kmart took over this location.-Opened as Kmart on August 19, 1976-Famous for having the old logo (Red K w/ blue turquoise m a r t lettering up until just last year)-Was actually a BIG Kmart in the late 90s/early 00s by adding a pantry to this store.-The cafe inside the store was always K-Cafe for many years(?)-Im pretty sure that the old exterior Garden Shop sign from its opening is still there.-This was the last Kmart in the state of Connecticut (after the second-to-last store in Vernon, CT closed this past March).I was there the first day of September (a few short weeks just before liquidation started!) for some nostalgia. Lack of newer interior updates, meaning this store is kinda stuck in the 1970s-1990s era. Seeing this ancient cart that dates all the way back to that period was a major surprise. One plastic gray 90s cart reappeared at this store. Some labelscars still shown in repainted walls (ex. what was once layaway was recently a Garden Shop). Added bonus is some old cash registers that date back to before the BIG Kmart era. Overall, what a nostalgic but relatively a good store. We will miss you, Kmart!
I will not be recommending this place to anyone, simply because of thier products and brands. The store itself doesnt look all that bad, employees try to be helpful when they can. For the most part I would recommend you go to other store around for shopping. I cant talk for everyone but for me, I would only go to this place out of inconvenience or emergency...
Last Kmart in Ct, sadly is closing December 2019. It’s a great old school store with green floors and all! Smaller then most Kmarts and was nicely stocked and organized on my only visit in August ‘19
I love this Kmart. I come here around 3 times a week. The sad part is I like 43 minutes away, but that doesn’t stop me. When I enter the store I feel welcomed. I’m usually approached by an employee and we great each other and they help me find what I need to find. The manager is real active, so she’s not always sitting at her desk like Walmart managers, she walks around to make sure the job is getting done. She makes sure that everything is in order. I do miss the Kmart in Milford CT because it was twice the size of this one, but this Kmart will remain and I’m proud I’m a Shop your way member. #iheartkmart there is this older white male and he’s such a nice guy. He always makes conversation and so friendly. Kmart is truly a great place to be where they honor and respect the customer. I’ve never had with a problem with this store I recommend it. I wish there was an option for 10 stars, because then this store would deserve it.
I normally like Kmart however I cant help but notice the huge empty spots on the shelves and they been that way every time I went there. They use to carry the cat food my cat likes but no more. The place is clean, the workers friendly, prices are high on a lot of items but using their loyalty program, fantastic deals keep me going back.
This will be the last Kmart in the state. I had been going to Cromwell for a number of years and when they closed started going to Vernon. A month ago, I took a rather long road trip to this one, which I had read was very small and rundown. If you like nostalgia and dont expect a lot, this is a cute store. The floors are worn, especially when you walk in, and the feel of the store is the same. They are lacking in variety in some departments, and are sufficient in others. Shelves are full and organized. Many employees straightening and stocking shelves. I spent quite a while in there and took advantage of deeply discounted Christmas merchandise. This store is good for me for an occasional visit. With Sears being given another chance and wanting to downsize their stores, this size store should work for them. If they gave this store a small renovation (new floors, paint the walls, new shelving, counters, and refresh inventory throughout the whole store), it would give the store a chance. I have a feeling this store made it this far because it serves as a convenience for the Watertown residents. But I feel it should attract outside residents of the area if it wants to survive. Their offerings are still great and unique at times, they have a good rewards program and its nice to have an alternative to Walmart and Target.
Sad fact is this used to be a great local store. I walked the entire store and never once greeted by an associate. The merchandising looks as if they gave up. I guess in a pinch you can pick up laundry detergent here. Store friendliness, merchandising and cleanliness all score a 1 star. Remember retail is detail this store falls flat.
I Chevy Tahoe, Guardians of the Sports Utility Vehicle, I have been bringing families to Kmart since the early 90s. This is the last Kmart in Connecticut and must be protected at all cost for future generations to come. In order for this store to continue well into the future, we must shop here regularly.
Love this place I Wish the one in Southbury Never closed. Hope this one stays open till August so i can say goodbye to it. I live 8 straight hour drive away now, but when im town i like to stop. Used to stop at the one in Greenwhich,NY, But of course they closed :-(
Great store, but a bit dated. The staff is helpful And friendly. Store is usually well stocked, other than Electronics department
Total time capsule and I love it. Been shopping here since moving a few years back and have no real issue with it. Its not glossy like Target up the road, but at least you wont walk out catching someone trying to steal your license plate. The selection is not great but decent enough to make it a recurring destination especially for essentials.... Almost deducted a star for the managerial asshat who decided to remove the vintage Kmart signage after 30+ years (behold the original magnificence in the pictures!) Its probably the same idiot who removed the classic Arbys cowboy hat sign on Lakewood Rd. a few years ago.
As a kid Kmart was where you want shopping, it was a great store with a bit of everything you would expect from a discount store and much more. The store in the Ansonia Mall and Southbury Plaza were our go to’s. So sad to see the franchise fall apart. We go to the Watertown store about once per month. The store is tired, some of the stock looks old. To me the store isn’t much more than an Ocean State Job Lot. We have always found the customer service to be pretty good. We will continue to visit for nostalgic reasons but that’s about it. I would love to see a miraculous turnaround and see them return to their former glory but that’s probably impossible.
You fools! The last Kmart in Connecticut is closing and future generations won’t even know about how great it was.
Despite empty shelves, I managed to pick up a few things, however, the fall item on the 25% off section, I was charged full price. The register doesnt allow you to see how the items ring up. So it wasnt until I got home when I noticed the error! Probably wont go back☹
The staff are great. Although this location is closer, I’ll drive the 30 min to the Milford location because the selections are better.
Kmart in Watertown is one of the best stores in the area. It is a small store but they carry lots of everyday items. If there is something you need and they do not have it they do everything they can to help you you get the item they will order and have it ship to your home for free. I will be lost without this store. The people that work there are very friendly and helpful. The prices are excellent better than the Walmart that I hate 10 minutes from my house. It is a well kept store for its size. Love my Kmart...
Great local Kmart store with friendly staff and a good selection of everything you need!
Great staff and great prices. Love our local Kmart
UPDATE: 12/10/2017 This place is going down hill, with the closing of all the large Kmart stores in the area you would think they would get better, that is not the case. This is one of those small town Kmart stores that has what you need when you need it but it is not all things to all people, but it doesnt pretend to be either.
Need some renovation. Lights are out dated. Little bet narrow. Need some reconfiguration.Good prices.Only one men fitting room. The shoes missing prices tags.
Kmart in Watertown Ct should have been one that they closed. The management is horrendous. The customer service is unprofessional, the store is dark, dingy, unwelcoming. Do not shop here in the winter because it is colder in the store than outside. The staff does not like to tend to customers. Do not ask them questions. There is a supervisor by the name of Anne who rolled her eyes and distributed a disgusting attitude towards me when I asked about prices on items that were clearly on a sales rack and were not ringing up correctly, than the cashier who is slow as molasses decided to put her two sense in. Very unprofessional .The people hired for this location do not represent the store well at all!!!If zero stars were an option, that would have been the better choice .
Nice store but the three star rating is because they never have enough cashiers.
This store is the absolute worst. Always has been, always will be. Drove an hour to look at a set I knew they had in stock before I ordered it. Got to the store, saw it, ordered it on my phone because you got an extra discount for online orders. Selected to pick up in the store. Sat for over another HOUR. Still no one could or knew how to process my pick up. The MANAGER was clueless. Seriously!?!? Told me he needed his receiving employee to show up before I could get my item. Told me to come back tomorrow AFTER I told them I drove an hour to get here. Please. Customer service at its best right there!! No wonder Kmarts are closing left and right. I’ll cancel my order and go elsewhere....
The store is less than half the size of the one that used to be in Cromwell. You get what you paid for. When i was there the front manager talking to an employee very rudely. I wanted to slap the taste out her mouth so bad!!!!!
Came here all the time growing up. Its too bad Kmart is becoming rare now. The last one in Connecticut. Now they are closing permanently December 2019. Gunna miss this place
This morning I took my 87 year old mother to this Kmart b/c her Southbury Kmart just closed. She really liked that Southbury store and had been shopping there since 1991.Sadly, this Watertown Kmart is not the same as her Southbury store, and it is looking pretty old. The shelves were not stocked. There were many signs around the store highlighting Red Tag savings, but not much merchandise available. She needed a rug to put in front of her kitchen sink and there were only two in stock. Yes, the prices are good. But sadly, the selection is really poor. She also wanted to get garment bags, and there were none. I must add that the staff was extremely nice and very helpful when she asked for assistance. Thanks to the staff!
Even the nicest Kmart (such as the one in Southbury) cant truly compete with stores like Target and others in this day and age. But Watertown Kmart is FAR from the nicest...it is indeed one of the worst, and should probably be closed. The store is a cramped, disorganized place that hasnt had a penny of updates since the 1980s. It has few redeeming qualities, but the employees were pleasant enough. If you absolutely need a Kmart, go to Southbury or even Vernon.
The employees are very rude the place is unorganized and the set up is very trashy. It is by far the worst K Mart store I have ever been to!
This store is a time-warp. One of maybe three Kmart stores that never left 1976, even has the dinosaur logo on the front. Its not much different from other Kmarts in the area: mismatched decor, dilapidated and tired inside, kind of messy and cluttered. This particular one remains special though, has a vintage charm and whenever I pass Watertown, cant help stopping in. Maybe not as functional as the super-sized one in Southbury, but deserves some praise!
Horrible! I will never go to kmart in Watertown CT again. The only reason I am rating it 1 star is because 0 is not an option. I waited for 20 minutes in line (not unusual in that location) only to have the cashier shut the light off and walk away, without a word, right as it was our turn to check out! I generally try to avoid that kmart anyway due to the long wait times (regardless of how many people are in line). But after this experience I will never go back. The convenient location is not worth the aggravation. I cant believe that store is still in business!
Clean environment, helpful staff if you ask.
I wish I could give this dump 0 stars. Its very old, dirty, dark, and dingy. It looks as though it hasnt been touched in years. We came after a rainstorm, and the roof was leaking in many places throughout the store. At least 5 areas had buckets collecting rain water. The floor is filthy, old, and cracked in many places. The aisles are narrow. The shelves are filthy and covered in dust. Everything on the shelves had dust on it as well. The store is very poorly lit. The checkouts werent working properly and took forever. The store overall felt depressing. I liked the Southbury store, but that one closed. They should have closed this one instead. Never coming here again!
Long wait to check out. Great to have this store in Watertown
It is a disaster in that store, there is merchandise everywhere, everything is a mess in there. I used to love Kmart now not so much!
Dont ever go there for western union its always down. No matter what time of the day you go they say its down. Smh they might as well say they just dont do it anymore.
This is possibly the most awful place in the world to shop. And Im counting like 3rd world countries here. Long and painful lines, terrible selections and item availability. I mean, they dont have 80% of the obvious stuff you would think they have. Just awful, make the trip to Target or Wal-Mart. Both also gross, but trust me, both also a huge upgrade.
Very crowded store with display racks even in the aisles. Great deals though.
Good prices and Pleasant staff..
Sale pricing very confusing. Long slow lines at checkout. Manager arrogant and not helpful.
Great spot. Keep it alive!!
Really care about the customer - sure there price checker never works but service desk helps out right away and they go out of there way to make sure its right when I bought just even a 6 pack of Coke - We shop there as much as we can when we need something we go to Kmart 1st
Found everything we needed for kids back to school needs.
They are have food and drinks with over a year due date!!! Store is a total mess and stuff not caring about nothing
Store is terrible I don’t know why I keep choosing to go pick up the misc. things I order from Sears from this place, just know customer service sucks. Just having shipped to the house from now. Close this place already.
Only one register open! I usually dont shop there for that reason but I was close by and decided to try again, but nope! Its the same, too bad, they say short staffed, really, every time I go there. Ill just drive across town to Walmart.
