Great that the place where I bought my first bass guitar, a Fender Jazz, back in the mid-70s, is still in business. Only wish the owner hadnt made me feel so bad for selling it. She just shook her head and basically said I was crazy without actually saying the words.

From amazing staff to amazing musical instruments, I am in this store about once a month. The workers taught me how to restring my guitars AND supplied my first and newest guitar. My first was a small bodied Martin and now I have a finder. This store has got me to where I am in my musical journey now. I couldn’t have done it without them!

It was my third time to Strains of Music and I must say I am still impressed with the store and staff my 2nd visit I bought a new guitar and today I was picking up some pics. The people are very nice and they will go out of their way to help, definitely a 5 STARS place.

Great selection of guitars and other string instruments as well as key boards and accessories. The owners are wonderful and welcome you to play the instruments! They also consign instruments if you have one to sell like we did and ours sold within a couple months for a fair price!

I had no clue about this place. It has pretty much everything you need for any intrument. I was looking for piano sheet music. Found way more!

Last week I drove from Hendersonville NC over to Strains of Music in Waynesville. I was looking for medium priced acoustic/electric and found the perfect Washburn guitar for me. They are a dealer for Wasburn (amongst others) and i remembered my college roommate had one long ago I and was always envious. He still plays it today. The staff was kind and responsive and I left with a great guitar at a very fair price. 5 stars.

The selection of guitars was decent, the selection of bass guitars was pretty slim, a lot of the amps I tried from their used selection were pretty messed up, however, the employee who was working that day, a younger kid, was super attentive and helpful.

We love shopping local. This same music store has served our family for years. They consistently provide good service.

Easy experience. Was looking for entry-level harmonica and they had a great selection so I purchased two. Amazed at how much they have available. Kind of a Willy Wonka effect, once you step inside the shop it seems to be much larger and as such is holding much more.

I dont know of another business that treats their customers better than Strains.

Great variety of supplies for the musician who uses string instruments. Great choices of instruments. I found strings for my Martin I had only heard about previously. Prices are reasonable tho lower prices can be found with online vendors. Benefit is that you can look close at the product before making your decision.

They were very helpful in helping me get the right cord for my application. After weeks of different trying different things, it finally works!

Just recently purchased a home in the area and Stopped in here on Monday the 12th of October. Extremely welcoming place, staff was warm and inviting felt right at home . Treated me like I been coming there for years, prices and selection were good . Highly recommend.

The folks are always helpful, never pushy. They keep a good inventory for the size of the store...guitars, basses, keys, drums, mandolins, banjos, amps, etc. If they dont have it, they can get it. Fair prices. Consignments. Conveniently located downtown with good parking.

Forever thankful to the owners and staff of the establishment for their selection, assistance and patience with me as a “music mom”- I think it’s harder than being a sports mom or dance mom sometimes! Good selection of instruments, accessories, repair options, referral for lessons, and tolerance for teens who want to play every instrument (mini concerts) every time we are there. Did I mention they take layaway? Yes- dangerous for a musician to know but it’s true! New and used stock and some of the best prices around.

What a wonderful store! Stopped in today to shop for a guitar, and the experience was terrific. I was talked into saving money, and encouraged to take my time to make a decision. I was given a mini lesson for free, and left full of musical enthusiasm.The depth of this store is a bit hidden. Two floors of instruments of all kinds along with helpful, friendly staff make it a gem.Stop in, you will be glad you did!

Overall, a great local music store that I’ve shopped at since I was a kid. But god forbid if that one old bag is running the place that day, you might as well just save yourself the headache of dealing with that hateful old woman and take your business elsewhere.

The prices on just one pair of drumsticks was way too much. $16 to $17 when you can go to a Sam Ash music store or a guitar center and get two or three pairs for the same price. Other prices were too high as well. The owner is an old bag who treated me quite rudely while I was there. I had simply asked her about some equipment and by the way i had to set the double bass pedals correctly on the bass drums she had there as they were attached to the wrong end of the drum instead of where you would normally have them in front of your feet when you sit behind a kit! Lol! I also asked her very nicely if she needed extra help in her drum department I could fix it up for her as I was looking for some local work in town while Im working on a new music project. She then got super rude and loud with me saying do you know how many musicians want to work here!?! I have a stack of applications back there!! I dont have money to pay helpers!! Well, no wonder she has no money to pay as her prices are too high and she should have knowledgeable musicians in each department that know the competitive prices of other stores plus that have a much friendlier attitudes than she had toward me! I will go elsewhere or order online from musicians friend catalog.

I am surprised that there are no prior reviews of Strains of Music. I live a one hour drive from Waynesville and decided to visit the town. I love checking out smaller independent music stores because they are the type that dominated during my younger years before the big box music stores (and internet) became prevalent. So I popped in to Strains of Music and Im glad I did.The store occupies an old house and has great curb appeal, but its whats inside that matters. And inside is a nice collection of new & used guitars, basses, keyboards, effects pedals, amplifiers, PAs, and so forth. Truly a wide range of quality (and price) instruments. Every inch of the store is packed although in an orderly manner. I spent an hour looking closely at every instrument and inside every display case to be sure I didnt miss a gotta have item.The staff was very friendly and offered help but did not interfere or hang over me like a vulture, so the atmosphere is very inviting and relaxed. I appreciate that there are no signs on pricey instruments to say do not touch or ask staff for help so was free to pick up and play any instrument.I recommend a visit to Strains of Music by musicians of all levels. A much better experience than the chain or internet stores. While I bought only guitar picks on this visit Im sure I will return.
