I rented a storage unit with them. I’ve been experiencing pest issues with this unit. I saw mice droppings, a lizard and spiders in my unit. I spoke with management and he told me he would see to it that my items are moved into another unit. He has given me the run around for 3 months now. They are unprofessional. I would not recommend them. There are so many other nicer storage places. Don’t waste your time.
My husband and I reserved a truck and storage unit 2-3 weeks in advance of the move. When we arrived to the location we were told that they didnt have any trucks nor any units available. The employee told us even though we had a reservation it didnt secure the truck nor the unit; that it was only a reservation. The employee told us that if we went on their website we would see that it says they have available trucks and units but that is not accurate. We checked the website and sure enough it did say that. He also said that they had several online reservations but when those customers arrived they would be told the same thing. We had a scheduled move for that Saturday because we are in the process of selling and was left to figure out where we could secure a unit and truck at the last minute. This location and Uhaul in general will never get our business again. This is bad business and there should be something done about their online system so customers arent thinking they are securing a truck or storage unit when in reality they may not be.
This whole company is a scam i own a delivery company and when ever my trucks brake down or need service i usually use Uhaul but after i started to notice the people that work there they wanting me to slide them extra cash and they will take off few mile or tell you to let the truck brake down so they can get a new ive lost over 5k dealing with Uhaul and will never use them again in my life. Believe me they know how to set the systems to where you can get charged more then you think or suppose to. Ive spend good money here and never again.
Honestly if I could give 0 stars I would...so well just say the 1 is for the counter lady who offered us a Starburst. Reserved our moving truck a MONTH ago, and after getting the run around all day...were now at Penske. As a communications specialist...Uhal...DO BETTER.
After making my first appointment online and driving over thirty minutes to this location, they didnt have the correct part and couldnt attach my wiring harness. For the second appointment, they had the parts and put them on, but upon arriving home and testing it was not properly installed and would not work. Trying to speak to someone at this actual location is a joke - no one answers the phone! As other reviewers have noted, the in-person store and the online booking do not work well together. I would NOT recommend this location!
UPDATE: DO NOT GO TO THIS LOCATION. My overall Issue may not have be this locations fault BUT their LACK OF CONCERN to take care of this and keep me updated is. While I was at the store on 14Apr2021 I was told by the installer that he would call around to see if anyone in the area had the hitch I ordered to get my install completed. I also was told that the General Manager for that store would be calling me the following day 15Apr2021. I NEVER received a call from the Manager and as of today 17Apr2021 I have not received any status update for the hitch install that I PAID for online. Also on the day my install was suppose to be done, when I got home I got online and chatted with Uhauls chat service to try and get a status on my hitch order and the woman was unable to tell me because she saw no tracking number on file in my order and this was an order I placed on 3 Apr 2021 and at that point it as 14Apr2021. I will be notifying BBB of this issue.The employees at this store held their cool even when I did not. I had purchased a hitch and hitch install through the Uhaul online. I was notified by email that my appointment for install was today, however when I arrived I was first told, as I pulled in to ask where to park for the install, that the install was finishing a hitch install and then had a wiring job to do. I will say I wasnt happy, so I let the guy know that I had a scheduled appointment for 2pm. Once I got into the store the same gentleman helped me, once he looked in their system they were not showing that the part had not been received. I showed him the email that showed I had a confirmed appt. He informed me that was produced by the Uhaul Online services. He did say he would get with the installer to confirm the information concerning my hitch, which I had already paid for online. It took about 30 mins (2:30pm) to have the installer try and assisted me with the issue. He confirmed that they did not have the part and from what he could read of the online system that the part wasnt showing, forgot how he actually worded it, but activity on their end. I was then informed that since I did the order online I would have to contact them to handle the issue. By this time I was feeling like the store had dropped the ball on my order and install. So I called customer service while I was still there in the store. Which come to find out that department was not very helpful in the matter other than telling me it was up to the store to notify me that they had not received the hitch and reschedule, however this customer service person was not wanting to seem to understand that the issue was the store NEVER got a confirmation sent to them concerning my order and install, they only knew about it when I came in to have it installed. It appears that it never flagged in their system. When I was done ranting to the customer service guy he went over the information he would be putting in the complaint and was there anything else... I said YES the company needs to address the online ordering and reservation system and communication to the store and how I had just wasted an hour of my time because of this lack of good communication from online order system to the stores. I say all this because while I was having words with the customer service; the installer had called up their General Manager to ask him how to fix the computer issue so that they could get my hitch and reschedule it for an install. After all was done I apologized to the employees for thinking it was them dropping the ball. Lesson here is DO NOT ORDER your stuff Online through Uhaul, contact your local store to do the order, especially if it is something like an install.
Booked and paid for a trailer hitch installation on line on 5/3/21. Appointment was scheduled for 5/11/21 @ 8am. Upon arrival to the facility I was told that they didnt have the hitch in stock and that the installer wouldnt be back until Thursday 5/13/21. Seems the right hand doesnt know what the left hand is doing and technology has left this sorry company behind. Turn the lights out...nobody will even miss you.
Horrible experience. Moving to Tennessee and put a reservation for a truck a month in advance. Come the day of the reservation, no trucks available in 40 mile radius. Was told multiple times the day of that the truck was available even told over the phone the manager had went and picked up the truck personally. Thank God for Penske.
Very nice service but staff...where r your masks??? Take care of yourself and your customers too. Only 50% of staff had masks on. Irresponsible!!
Scheduled a hitch install for early this morning more than a week ago. When I arrived, I was told their hitch guy gets in at noon every day so they dont schedule anything until after noon. I called a local number to schedule, but wasnt told this. The lady at the store found my reservation (for 7:30am) in the system without any issue. This tells me that they knew (or had the ability to know) that they couldnt do the install at the time that was scheduled, but they didnt call or let me know until the minute I got there. Id blocked off time at work and rearranged my schedule to make this work all to be completely frustrated. Ill never be back, and I would suggest you shouldnt either.
When I called to actually rent a 8 foot truck, the lady who answered the phone was extremely helpful and courteous. However, when I got to the store to actually pick the truck up in order to move a refrigerator I purchased from Lowes, the truck I had reserved had been given to another customer who would not be back until 5 p.m., which is when this store closed. The girl working at the desk was unsympathetic to my frustration of having the truck Id reserved rented out to someone else and her lackadaisical attitude about the whole situation was less than helpful and definitely not caring. I ended up going to the U-Haul store on Knox Abbott in Cayce, SC where I was helped by Darius, who was most gracious and quite concerned about the lack of assistance I received at the Orchard Road location in West Columbia, SC. All that being said, I was lucky to have been waited on/helped by Darius at the Cayce location or I would have never used U-Haul again.

Rented from here several times and always get my propane refilled at this location. Good prices and customer support. I was double charged once but the manager quickly fixed it.
Rented a storage Unit in February and would go by every month to pay storage rent. I was turned away on multiple occasions because the manager wasnt there to process the payment.????? Then last month I went around to check my unit and it had been burglarized. The office did nothing . Not even an apology. In fact I was told the police comes there often for reports of theft. I would advise to NEVER use U-Haul rental.
Customer service was awful we walked in and the guy didnt acknowledge us.Then we asked about tow dolly and were told they were across the parking lot in a rude voice.As we were pulling to the dolly customer service representative was looking mean and short with us .It was like we was ruining his day. Just was not a pleasant experience. Wade Towns was the customer service representative he needs to change jobs because he has no people skills at all.

Full service storage & moving U-haul. Has slightly more than the usual fleet and service quantity available compared to other U-hauls and competitors. Ive been a return customer for about 4 years. Only drawback has been running into a less than helpful employee once in person, and a downright irresponsible and unprofessional employee once over the phone. I called. She answered. I asked for Mike (see Mike later in review). He was busy, I asked to wait for him. After more than a few minutes I decided to hang up and give another employee a chance to help by calling back instead of waiting on the pro. She picked up already knowing it was me via caller ID. She didnt even let me utter a word. Immediately said something along the lines of Mike is still busy and stuck me on hold. Forgivable, being that she may have had a bad day, etc. Called back thinking internally she will want to hear what Ive got to say at the least right? Nope. Rang once, she picked up and stuck me back on hold without saying anything. Not forgivable. Called back, refused to pick up. Called again, refused to pickup. Unfortunately I didnt get the phone employees name. Moving on: I can tell you that if you ask for Mike you will not be disappointed. He goes above and beyond the call of duty and is very patient. Overall very pleased with the location. The only thing Id recommend to management is actively being leaders, instilling the tone and beat for customer relations in the other employees.Okay I lied, fire the phone lady.Okay I lied again, give Mike a raise.
I called to see if they had any motorcycle trailers available. The lady I spoke with (I wish I could remember the name) was very friendly and helpful. She reserved the trailer for me and told me I could drop it off the next day, which was plenty of time. All in all, setting up a reservation took less than 5 minutes. I didnt end up needing the trailer, but I was still very happy with the customer service. Keep it up!
Starting on Tuesday, I scheduled for Friday and had to reschedule for Sat at 8am until 4pm. I had been transferred 5 different times during process. I kept getting the wrong information as to when the truck could be picked up. I finally got Christy on the phone Thursday afternoon at 4:51pm and she confirmed the 8am pic is fine. To many people involved in the scheduling of a truck.
Made the appointment for installation of a trailer hitch and wire harness for 7am. No one was there until 7:20. Then was told NO ONE was there to install. Was told to come back i an hour to see if someone would be there to o the installation. Rude and WILL NOT be going back to use this one if i can help it. After calling around I did find the one on Two Notch to be very knowledgeable and helpful. Went there and was VERY SATISFIED. Yes it was worth the drive and WILL use them from now on. The whole chain of Uhaul in Columbia is garbage. Rude staff, rude and unprofessional management...all the way up to the President. It’s a shame for a national company to be this bad. I travel all over the US and have never had so many problems with a company as a whole. Stay away!
Worse service rental with truck and towing Ive ever had. Cant talk with people in the office about issues you had when you drive off the lot with issues with out a complete attitude by the whole office. Truck was junk. Truck was on E. then expect to put more gas then i had to begin with.wont ever use uhaul ever. Was convenient at the time but will stick with Penske. Had it less then 3 hours when your have it for few hours more and having issues there was nothing they will do to help your experience. Say this and that but no help. So right now you get a 1 star and wont change it until they can reach out and help me with my experience. DONT USE THIS UHAUL STAY AWAY.
We needed a storage unit and since we rented a truck when we moved here they also provided a free month of storage. Then the monthly rate was $44.95 which was the best that we could find for the 5x10 unit. The problems started on the third month: first we were forced to pay an additional $10.65 for their lock (there was no mentioning about our obligation to buy such a lock from them when we originally signed the contract). One day we came to pick up some things and we noticed a new lock on our locker door. We asked the manager and they had no idea why the lock was there, then they said that all customers must have a lock from u-haul, which is supposed to be better than our personal lock. The problem was that they did not even contact us about the lock... they just put it on the door and if we had an emergency and needed to get something at night when the office was closed then we would have been locked out.Then one month later, I get an email from u-haul informing me that my rate will go up from 44.95 to 54.95 without any reason whatsoever (even though they have an ad on the side of the road next to the office that they rent out lockers for 44.95).The overall experience with u-haul self storage units was very bad; the managers that work there are not very professional and cant explain whats going on and why there are locks being installed on door without informing the client first, etc.We are moving out of this location today.P.S.: Oh, and by the way, when I attempted several times today to post a review on u-hauls official website with my client information the system glitches and informs me that I cannot access their review page... how convenient for them.

Rude, annoying, horrible experience!!! I rented a truck from Charlotte, NC and was scheduled to drop it off at this location in West Columbia. I needed to extend my rental for an additional day. I called this location where I was scheduled to drop off the truck and let them know. Rather than trying to work with me and help with my situation the manager of this location chose to be sarcastic, rude and try to make me feel it was my problem that they didnt have another truck on their lot to rent to someone else. The manager said to me, It isnt like I can just go out back and build another truck. Then she went on to threaten me that she would charge me a penalty and a late fee if I did not have the truck there by 3:00PM. 05/27/16. I called the Charlotte Location and extended the rental no problem.
I had reserved a 4x8 trailer in April for our May wedding. We drove to South Carolina, knowing that the pick up location was at the 400 Orchard Rd. West Columbia, SC. We had rented a trailer from this location (January 2010) before and the reservation email, shown below, was sent from this location (address at bottom of email). My fiance went there two hours and thirty minutes previous to the wedding. He got there and it was a while until he was attended by one of the agents. Finally, the agent looked up the reservation number but didnt find the trailer we needed (a 4x8 trailer). He said that we could only have a 5x8 trailer if we paid EXTRA. (The reservation said that they would upgrade for free in this case.) He told him to go to the Broad River location since the reservation wasnt for that location (according to him). Broad River showed it at the Orchard location! He was ultimately 1.5 hours late to our wedding. On top of that, the trailer leaked and our gifts got wet.
The manger there made threats and had the worst customer service i have ever seen.. stay away from here if you know what is good for you
Terrible customer service. Representatives cannot do simple math. Nor do they answer the phone whatsoever. Wish I never did business with this location or the other W. Columbia location.
I had to go back and forth with them to get back my reserved payment after they had gotten full payment for truck. Also the heavy duty hand truck I returned was not checked in and U-haul called to ask if I still had the equipment.
I would write a lower review if I could. My belongs were broken in to and they referred me to a insurance specialist who did nothing about it. Then they referred me to manager which in turn did nothing about. Do not trust this company. I had half of my stuff stolen and nothing was done about it.
I rented a unit here for a few months. On 6/2 there was a double lock on my unit and a tag about non-payment however email recipets confirm timely payment and when i went in the store this was confirmed. I had the united emptied on 6/7 and the movers had taken the lock with them. My movers had lost a few pieces of the bedframe and there werent left behind on the truck. I had called Uhaul several times to see if someone could check the unit before I closed my contract. I sat on hold for 30+ minutes each time before someone would pick up the line. On 6/20 I gave up and made the trip up there myself - but guess what? there was ANOTHER lock and tag on my unit about non-payment however the rental payment isnt due until 6/24. Once again i had to go inside and confirm the account was up to date and have the lock removed. the man whom removed the lock was rude and sat there in the van watching me at the unit. He did not address me as to why this was done. Once inside the unit i did discover the missing bed frame pieces were hiding alongside the door track. HOWEVER there were items that did not belong to me in the unit such as a small trailer and some wood. I did not feel comfortable dealing with the employee who was sitting in the van watching me the entire time to address the reason as to why someone had placed things in a already rented unit. I called the local number it seems you get routed to customer service - is there a point to this? about the issue and that i want my account closed IMMEDIATELY.
I would never rent from this location or use UHaul again. We rented a 26truck and by the time it was loaded we realized it had no air conditioning. We called and got roadside service which sent us 40 minutes out of our way to retrieve another truck because there was no one to bring the truck to us and take the other truck away. This was after driving 2 hours and unloading the truck in 95 degree weather.I have called several times and was told by roadside assistance, which is not really roadside assistance, that we should get a refund for our troubles. The owner/operator of this store refuses to speak to us or offer any customer service at all.In short of you rent a u haul and need any service at all. Good luck! Horrible experience and not worth another minute of my time to get any refund.

This is not a good location/franchise and it really brings down the integrity of Uhaul. I ordered a trailer hitch with wiring and installation online. I made an appt the next day and included my cellphone number and email. I show up at 8:00am and general manager/franchise owner asks if I got his phone message. I assured him that there was no voicemail left for me or email. He was unable to locate a phone call made to me from him on his end. Turns out the wiring didnt match my 2013 Lexus and he would have to order it. Two problems: One is the website. Why would it allow me to order a part online that was incompatible? Amazon doesnt do that. Two is the managers attitude. He made no apologies for the miscommunication and made no attempt to rectify the problem. This is the essence of a managers job. I asked for a refund. There are some good Uhauls in the Columbia area so avoid this one like the plague.
Have never even heard of this kind of customer mistreatment anywhere in my life. Turning in the truck rented in another town was a nightmare. After a LONG wait we attempted to leave in our car following the arrows painted on the asphalt and found ourselves boxed in at the exit by a truck and trailer parked squarely in the exit facing the wrong way. We were told by a uhaul employee to turn around in a small space surounded by a jumble of vehicles, AND to leave against the arrows after turning around by going through the entrance where cars come in one way. They would not be expecting a car to be exiting the wrong way. When I asked if they would be responsible for an accident if I did so, the male employee instructed me that I could not speak to him that way and that he was calling the police!!! I thought it was a great idea to call the police and also asked for the manager. He did not call the police but continued in a threatening manner that we had to get off the property where we were trapped. I said uhaul would be responsible for any accident because of disobeying one way arrows or backing in a tight difficult area to get turned around. The uhaul man threatened to call the police again as we were not leaving the property. I said I would be glad for him to call them and refused to break the law going against a one way entrance. I asked for the manager again with no response and said I would be happy to talk to the police, they were never called. I guess they thought we were illegals who would flee??? I have no reason to fear the police when I had done nothing and said nothing unlawful, only objecting to being forced to exit at an entrance that was one way. We were given no choice but to exit the wrong way tired of idle threats and no police or manager plus an irate employee who by the way had the other employee in tears. We had a hard time reversing direction with the jumble of vehicles surrounding us and, as I predicted, were almost hit by a big black truck at the entrance, as well at two others entering lawfully. It is a shame for newcomers to be greeted this way.
Con artist Ripped me off.. didnt even drive the dolly off the lot because the lights didnt work. They never cancelled my order and billed me for a dolly I never got to use.. BEWARE.. Trash Company
Had them install reese hitch on vw toureg. Great service, quick turn and quality products. It was a bit pricey but they gave me a $50 break when paying. Second time using them and both times it went well.
Officially fed up. This store and uhauls company itself is absolutely horrible at communication causing more issues than there should have ever been still waiting on a phone call from Vernon but its been over a week. The manager Johnny was the one to mess up our entire thing. Causing so much damage and not even willing to give a lousy discount to a family who spent so much and was basically homeless and facing so many other issues just because he put a hold on our account that we didnt approve made it where we would overdraft and have everyone we wrote a check for, which we did have enough before the useless hold, not be able to get their money. These people who are suppose to know how to do their job specifically managers and higher ups. But we had a better experience with the staff at the location not the manager and even the customer service who both cant really do much for you but at least they can work with you and answer you. Uhaul messes up and its all on you. When they are the ones who are suppose to make moving easier. Yeah right. Id rather take a million trips with a small trailer than deal with this bs ever again!

I had a horrible experience with this UHaul. Do not give them your time or business!!!!I had a reservation to wire and and install a wiring harness for my car on a Wednesday at 5:30. I get a call at 4:30 to tell me the part wasnt in but I could have everything installed at 5:45 Thursday. Okay right... not for this UHaul. I show up only to find out that the only person that can perform the installation leaves at 5:00. Next I learn that they still didnt have the wire for the wiring harness installation. The idiot told me that it takes 5-6 business days to get the part and then tried to schedule me for an appointment for the following Tuesday.... thats 3 business days away at best. The incompetence of this place has ended all business between Uhaul and myself. The perssonell never once apologized and the manager wasnt even helpfull.
Its a great place to get a rental truck or trailer. Access is a bit awkward, be sure to ask how to leave to avoid getting on US 1.
TRIED CALLING THIS LOCATION SEVERAL TIMES TO SCHEDULE A RENTAL, EACH TIME WAS ON HOLD OVER 15 MIN AND NO EVER PICKED UP. MUST BE DOING SO WELL THEY DONT NEED TO ANSWER THE PHONE.

Mileage was wrong called twice to get corrected promised supervisor would call but never did. Ended up paying more than actual mileage.
