Excellent selection of all sorts of spices and other concoctions. Picked up some whole nutmeg and rosemary. Disappointed that due to safety they removed the ability to smell what you were interested in getting beforehand. But I understand and support it. My go to place for herbs and spices.

We love the quality of Penzey spices. However, l am giving a two star review for how rude the store clerk was at the West Hartford, CT store. I was about to enter the store bathroom, which was unlocked. The clerk ran after me telling me l couldnt use the bathroom because that is store policy. We have been to this store several times before and never had this problem. I left the store and didnt return. My husband said the clerk chastised him for touching the spice jars too much saying, Do you have to do that? I filed a complaint on their website questioning there policy about store bathroom usage. What type of customer service is that? We were wearing masks, so not inconsiderate.

Not only was the shop a bakers dream, but the ladies working were lovely! Ill be back for more soon!

Penzeys had the vanilla sugar I was looking for. The clerk understood and helped me immediately. She,was able to refer me to another store for dishes as well. I will buy from Penzeys again!!

Great selection of anything youd need in your cooking

This rating is reflective of the customer service at the West Hartford, CT location. Unfortunately, the manager of the store appears to struggle tremendously with treating a customer respectfully. While on a number of occasions when the store was open for in person shopping I witnessed her disrespectful and condescending communication towards customers, I can now speak first hand to experiencing the same. While I commend corporate for standing by their employees, I feel that it is a great disservice that they are doing to their customers if they do not look into this further. A manager should be able to handle the negative customer experiences just as well as the positive experiences. However, the West Hartford store manager becomes unprofessional when presented with a challenging situation. I’ve now experienced her Jekyll/Hyde personality on a couple of occasions & can assure you, it is disappointing and not what I expect from Penzeys.

Fresh, flavorful spices every time. You can really taste and smell the difference. They have frequent money saving promotional offers, too. Plus, I like that they use glass jars. I order online in addition to in store purchases.

This is now my go-to place for fresh spices, NOT more expensive but certainly fresher than supermarket fare. Also, all spices are in glass containers, not plastic! I believe that keeps them fresher. Ran out of French Terragon so needed the bigger bottle!

I appreciate their EXCELLENT management around covid and shopping. I made an order for stocking stuffers online and was so delighted to find out there is a Penzeys 25 min from me! So I ordered on a Saturday and it was ready to be picked up the next day. They call you which is nice, too. Then you go, knock on the door, and they ask for your name and put it out for you. Its 100% contactless. I really appreciate that, and the amazing selection. I didnt expect them to have my order ready so fast (I ordered about 10 random things).

The staff was friendly and accommodating, taking the time to help me pick out a gift despite the hectic holiday rush. The selection of spices was broad and interesting, and I much appreciated the tester jars so that I could smell the blends before making my choice. The store was clean and well organized. I only wish their prices didnt add up quite so quickly! Overall, a good shopping experience.

I have shopped in this store for as long as it has existed in the Center. My experience in trying to buy some Rosemary on Monday, June 22nd was very unpleasant. As I was in the Center, I thought I would pop in.I had to call the number posted on the door from the sidewalk, talk to the woman inside by herself, over the phone. Once she showed me exactly what I wanted, I had to give her ALL the pertinent charge card info while standing on the sidewalk. When she brought my package to the door, I was told to step away from the door, while she placed my package on the crate and not pick it up until she was back behind the door. It was a bit much!If this is the new way of actual store retail, I question how long we will see Penzys in town.

I searched at least 5 different grocery stores looking for gumbo file (powdered sassafras). I found it at Penzeys. Nice layout at the W.Hartford CT. store. I bought 3 packs of the file and they threw in a free small jar of herbs for seasoning different kinds of meats. Nice! Cant find what your looking for? Come here.

If youre looking for quality spices then this is your place. My favorite by far is the smoked paprika. All of their spices have a very distinct flavor and scent that is very noticeable in your food. Its 110% worth every penny.

What more could you need? Lots of single herbs & spices, gift boxes, and specialty blends. We go for their cinnamon sticks, bay leaves, and szechuan pepper and usually bring home something new to try. Pay parking on street or in lot behind store.

Cannot even purchase a product without being bombarded with political agendas, very inprofessional. When you express while being a. customer you do not want to hear that, you get rudely shut down. Again very unprofessional. Maybe their spices rock, maybe they do not. I wont know because I am wary of a company that does not know how to conduct themself in a professional business setting. There are plenty of other high quality spice businesses that put their efforts and time in delivering a superior product instead of their personal lives/agendas
