Living in the United States and visiting Europe a few times, the following is a fact - Postcards, pictures, paintings do no justice to what Europe really has to offer to the naked eye. That being said, old world charm and educated charismatic people are few that reside here in Los Angeles.Vandeuren (antiques and archival framing) is a treasure. The showroom displays some of the most beautiful pieces of European furniture and paintings I can only dream of seeing right here in my own neighborhood. These pieces are authentic, breathtaking and seem to come to life as I sit there appreciating their beauty all for my own pleasure, happily rearranging my own place in my mind.I have met the owner and thanked him for loving his gallery; it really shows. Im grateful for the extensive history lessons behind each period piece.I suggest a visit with your checkbook. A rare opportunity to own exquisite items you normally would have to travel overseas for.
Its a really small place but there are some awesome items for sale. I bought a 100 year old book on hemorrhoids and ended up in a long conversation with the guy behind the counter. Super interesting things, really smart, nice employees...Ill be going back for sure!
I ordered a piece of furniture online and had it delivered across the country to North Carolina, where I live. I couldnt be happier with the service, the furniture, or the process. Highly recommend.
I’ve worked with the best framers in the United States, and Vandeuren Art Framing surpasses them. (Vandeuren has framed some fifty quite valuable pieces for me over the last five years, so this review is based on deep knowledge of his business.)The reason Vandeuren is the best is that owner Bernard Vandeuren allows only the highest-quality work to emerge from his shop. The process starts with Mr. Vandeuren’s exceptional ability to select a frame and approach that complements the artwork – which he does by drawing on his vast knowledge of the history of fine framing and inventory of frames. Mr. Vandeuren is glad to collaborate as much as the client may wish, but it’s good to know that one could simply “turn the job over” to him and the result would be superb. Next comes execution and, again, the shop is first-rate. The shop employs extremely talented gilders, carvers, etc, who work on every piece and are also capable of producing extraordinary custom, museum-worthy work. The work is all archival: there are no non-archival materials on the premises so there is no possibility of a mixup. Note, too, that Vandeuren always take the extra step to satisfy the customer and himself. (Occasionally, at no additional cost, he has insisted on redoing a piece that met my obsessive standards but not his!) With Vandeuren’s uncompromising insistence on quality, one might imagine a snobby establishment, but the fact is that Vandeuren and his staff couldn’t be more warm and accommodating. Whether you are a curator, gallerist, collector -- or are none of those but care about the artwork you choose to hang in your home – you have finally found the right framer.
