We arrived at the shop from out of town at 2:01. It had closed at 2:00. We called, a man answered and said he would help us. He gave us maps and information regarding the best places to ride. We had the best ride and felt we owed most of it to him. He didnt have to answer the phone or the door, but he did and because of him we had a fabulous day! Thank you for going the extra mile!
I walked in with a flat tire he looked at it said he would fix it in a few min. I came back after a quick errand and the tire was repaired, air put in tires, and adjustments made. Quick, easy, and done right. I thought service like that didn’t exist anymore. There is no substitute for this kind of service and professionalism.
This bike shop is amazing! The owner really knows his stuff. We bought a bike for one of my children, came back to buy one for another child, and are taking all of our current and future repairs here. The owner may seem gruff at first, but hes actually very kind and great at what he does.
Thanks for taking the time to show us all the bike trails even though you had just closed. We had an amazing ride. Without your help we would have been totally lost!!
My favorite bicycle shop. You will not only get a great bike from them, but the right bike. John and Liz are a wealth of knowledge. They have tasty coffee there too.
I cant say enough about the great friendly service John and Liz have provided myself and my family. These folks have sold bikes to 3 generations (at least 7 bikes) of my family and we are so much the better for it. Truly a local treasure.
Three or four visits to this shop over the years and each one has been tinged with a bit of rude attitude on their part. Serious money spent too.Not worth my time going into the details here because its more of a you had to be there thing.Theyre bike tekkies not diplomats, I used to see the same attitude in stereo repair stores back in the seventies, if youre old enough to remember that scene then youll know.
Nice place! He backs his work!
Great shop and friendly staff. Found a great bike at a great price. Listened to what our needs were and found the perfect bike.
My husband and I went into BicycleWise to look at bikes. John and Liz (the owners) were so helpful and knowledgeable. We had a great experience and ended up leaving with the perfect bikes for us. John even installed our bike rack for us. I wish I could give them 6 stars. John also builds custom bicycles and has years of experience! I’m a big fan of supporting local businesses!
Great small town/locally owned bike shop. Owner knows his stuff and rates are more than reasonable.
John and Liz are running an exceptional bicycle store providing extraordinary service. Being an expert mechanic John has been able to service my bikes at a level which is very rare to find. He rebuilt my beloved vintage Pinarello bike which turned out to be even better than I bought it when I was a student 30 years ago. John was also able to fix the “pretzel” of my mountain bike when I crashed into a tree; I was certain that I had to buy a new wheel as the damage seemed beyond repair. John took it on and was able to fix the wheel – I was deeply impressed with his work! Being an engineer myself and having worked on bikes in the past, John’s talent is extraordinary and rare.I always enjoy going to their bicycle store – John and Liz are such warm and friendly people. When I was looking for commuter bikes for my college kids, John advised me on the best choices and my kids have been happily riding the bikes to classes; very much appreciated! What I like most is that I always get a straight forward and honest opinion from John and Liz – true expert advice at all times. As a coffee lover I am also happy that I can buy some of the best coffee in town and don’t have to drive to Madison or Milwaukee to do so.Overall, a “great” place for everything regarding bicycles and gear as well as great coffee.
John is the friendliest business man Ive ever encountered. He helped me install a new tune today, something Im embarrassed to have never done. But he showed me how and made sure I understood the process before I left. Very kind, great shop, and delicious coffee as well :)
The staff is amazing. I came in expecting a boring buying experience and came out feeling like I know everything about a bike. Every question was answered and more! If Im ever buying another bike or fixing one this is the first place Ill go!
John and Liz are such a great couple besides their knowledge of bikes. They are so pleasant you just want to stop in and say hi without any bike business. Their store offers the best of the best. Truley a Whitewater asset.
John and Liz run a top-notch bicycle shop which Ive been frequenting for more than a decade. They provide expert service and advice, with an emphasis on something which the big money, quick sale shops do not always pay close attention to --- rider comfort and SAFETY. Over the years Ive had a number of bikes serviced by John, many of them old with very particular and arcane needs and requiring special old school knowledge and parts. Lots of other shops wouldnt go near these special needs machines, but intrepid John doesnt shy away and always manages to get these oldies but goodies humming. And Liz is a gem, so warm and friendly. And now their new location is a fab stop for a cup of coffee, as well. Overall, a GREAT place for everything bicycle!
Unfortunately a very negative experience. We bought a $200 secondhand bike that fell apart (gear mechanism broke off rear wheel and broke a spoke and got tangled up) during a ride four days later, leaving us several miles from home. We understand that problems occur, but the attitude and response when we brought the bike back was uncalled for. Was told to not return to his business again, and a refund check was tossed at me. Was accused of “wrecking the bike”. Very unprofessional and unpleasant . Do not recommend at all.
Knowledge beyond compare. I have enjoyed working with John and Liz for over ten years. Their advice in buying three bikes for my grandson and two bikes for myself have given us endless fun and confidence.
Ive been going to these guys all through college! John (owner) is super knowledgeable about bikes and how to fix em! Im seriously impressed everytime! Ive bent components on my bike, having fallen with it, and popped a tire. Each time, he was able to fix it rather quickly! If hes not busy, and he has the parts, its even while i wait! (they also have coffee there if you want it) He always explains the fixes, and provides me with the most economical solution! Though hes definitely got the ability to do it if youre looking for a complete overhaul type of fix! (Ill be going there for gear replacement once its needed) If you live anywhere around here, its worth the trip! Come in and let John work his magic to fix your bike!
Was dying to go in but sadly you cant get in with covid. Maybe next time.
Love this store! John and Liz helped me pick out a wonderful bike that I ride to and from work almost every day. Highly recommend them!
These folks took care of my 94 year old mothers bike over the winter after she brought it in for a repair in the fall. In the spring, they contacted her retirement community to see why she had not picked it up snd return it to her. (They knew she rode a LOT and figured it was time for her to hit the road again!) kudos for personalized care!
Been in there many times. Often for advice on fixing my bike up. John always offers great advice and is honest with me. Ive also had a tune up and purchased parts. They were always willing to work with me. Great people with quality products!
Ruined my skate blades after I was assured he knew what he was doing. Very disappointed ice skate sharpening is a lost art 😢
Best bike shop hands down! If you ask them to do something and they say no, theres a really good reason. When they are not busy, theyll spend time educating you on the most basic things. The owner loves riding and has turned his passion into a profession...thats the kind of expertise I appreciate when I want to take my time and make smart purchases.
Affordable, Friendly, and there is a reason they have been named to the Best Bike shops in America - no doubt you will have an awesome experience if you stop by their shop! I first met John and Liz in 2000 when I attended the University of Wisconsin Whitewater. What an awesome couple to own and run a Professional Bike Shop! Since 2000, I have been to their shop, and only their shop, when having any issue with my old bike, and now current bike which I bought from them. This includes all 4 years of college, 10 years living in Chicago and making the 2 hour drive just to get a simple tune up, and now the past 6 months coming from Madison. Theyve even fitted my son (3 years old) and my wife with awesome bicycles to share the ride with! Get out and play!!!
Called about fixing a flat and they told me to come in and they would fix while I waited. Brought it in and was helped immediately, and was finished in less than 10 minutes. Friendly, knowledgeable staff and I will return with my future bike issues as long as I am here in Whitewater!
Great experience buying my sons first bicycle! They even have a trade in program when he grows out of it! I also bought my bike there. Great service and everyone there is friendly, knowledgeable and professional.
Great local bike shop. Owners are the kind of people to do business with. John knows his stuff and Liz is so warm she treats everyone like family
Very helpful service! Had a bike with a flat tire and sticky lock -- stopped in and was helped quickly and for free! Id give them my business in a heartbeat.
Jon and Liz are extraordinary people, its not just a business, they make buying a bike an eternal relationship for the customer, you will find yourself stopping in just to tap their lively stories or a cup of joe. A must stop!
Were very rude. Friend brought in his bicycle for help in attaching and filling tires, they refused to help because handlebars were on backwards. Wouldnt let us use a screwdriver to fix it, which would be a 5 minute fix. Previously had very good service at their last location, but both people working today were unfriendly. Will likely never return. Do yourselves a favor and go to the other bike shop across town.
Horrible customer service. Rude staff. Don’t go here.
After working on my bike with my roommate and reaching a dead end, I took it into BicyleWise in Whitewater with some questions. When I told the bike technician, John, my plight, and pointed out what I thought was wrong, he shook his head and said, Its shot. So I asked, Do I need to buy another one? and he said no. Confused, I asked what he meant when he said it was shot. He said he didnt understand the question. When I told him that I was willing to have it worked on, but wanted to know how hed be fixing it for my own knowledge (seeing as I had just spent that last few hours with my nose stuck in the gears), he stated, Im dont teach; I fix. Thats how I make my living. I have other engagements to attend to, so you can leave your bike here or fix it yourself.I wouldnt get a surgery done without the doctor telling me what he was going to be doing and what Id be paying for, so why would I leave my bike with someone who wasnt willing to tell me what they would be doing? John already had my business, seeing as I was willing to leave my bike right then and there, but after he said that, I figured he must not need the business if hes willing to treat his customers that way.
Went to buy a bike and needed help considering I am not very knowledgable about bikes. Both employees were friendly and helpful. I later called with more questions but was not understood by the employee. after I politely said they gave me some helpful information I was rudely hung up on. So, they are knowledgable and helpful, albeit a little eccentric.
This is a relatively small shop, but for service, advice and well-chosen products, it is one of the best bike shops in the country.
Outstanding customer service for all our biking needs. Friendly and knowledgable about all things biking.
Once again this shop delivered! Not only do i get the information i need its also delivered in an intelligent way to help me make my decision an easy one. Thank you for all of your help and keep the coffee brewing.
Rudeness. Dude snidely explained to me how something pretty basic couldnt be done. I watched a youtube video and did it. Probably a good place to go if you want a new trek or a unremarkable custom frame.EDIT: it wasnt a brake bleed, it was redishing an old ten-speed wheel to give a good chain-line in a single speed application. You specifically said it could only be moved a couple millimeters, and you were quite condescending about it. I respaced the hub and dished it at nearly an opposite profile---works great and the chain line is straight.MORE EDIT: Sure. It is just as safe as any dished wheel. You were very condescending and didnt say anything about it being technically possible but unsafe. You were quite adamant it could only be moved a couple millimeters. And you never actually looked at the bike lol.
First: NO search box.No clicking access, of the product categories, when attempting to search for an item..Add to the DECEPTING problem that there be no actual internet connection, when attempting to send..email.More like a bogus business.
Great advice on Fat Tire Bikes
One time, when I was a poor college student, I only had $12, which wasnt enough to get my skates sharpened. The owner sharpened them anyway.
The elderly man I dealt with was rude and condescending, That will be the first and last time I ever step in that store again!
Full service shop, coffee and custom frames. Place has everything
Great gear, awesome staff
