Beautiful hillside setting with high quality amenities from a mini amphitheatre for shows a sundeck for events & entertaining in addition to their marvellous restaurant & balcony. With an obviously regular clientele, their staff are very friendly & well informed regarding the menu making the experience relaxed & special. The menu is limited but expertly put together catering for all refined tastes.. excellent!
We just had a lovely evening meal outside on the terrace as the evening drew on. Staff looked after us with blankets and genuine hospitality. 80 day aged rack of beef to share, wow what a treat! Totally delicious. The revamp decor is great, opening it all up with attention to detail.
Just adding to the list of fantastic reviews, what a gem of a place. What can one say, impeccable in every area.
We enjoyed great service at this well located restaurant views and grounds stunning (despite the rain.) Sunday lunch is 2 or 3 courses we had 2 as portions are generous. One small issue was the roast potatoes had clearly been reheated and were hard. But lots of other vegetables available.
Fantastic views. Some really nice foodFriendly serviceIt was sometimes difficult to get the waitress attention and the dessert was pretty tiny. The wine was great. We had a really special meal. So I would recommend.
Lovely place with great views and staff are welcoming. The dog is welcome although it is getting awkward as food is being served on the terrace, it is loosing some of the old pub feel and areas to just walk in with wellies. All the same we have never been turned away!
Our evening was marred by a loud table of seemingly unsupervised children so the atmosphere was not entirely enjoyable. Given the nature of the venue - we were not expecting screaming kids. Our waiter from Hawaii was a total gem and the highlight of the evening. He was warm, knowledgeable and sincere. The autumn tasting menu was very hit and miss. The food felt like it had ambitions it just couldnt quite deliver on.
I am leaving 3 stars for the food as this was actually pretty good and the view was great but a horrendous experience all round. I was embarrassed to have taken my family to an evening of frustrations here. Booked for dinner, arrived and half an hour later still no menus or drinks. Asked for menus and was told no, the kitchen was not currently opened? Was told it would be open in an hour and we could have drinks until... we had waited on the booking for weeks and had nowhere else booked for sat evening dinner so didnt really have a choice but to wait. There was no risk of drinking alcohol on an empty stomach as there were still no drinks to be had. I would say the staff were more young and untrained than rude.. I didnt feel that any management had control or order of the venue and the young members of staff were left to make it work. As I say, the food was decent when we eventually got some but at the price you pay for it, you would hope so. An all round unpleasant experience and I will not be back.
Awesome place. Once you get over the breathtaking views, the food is amazing and ask of the staff are not than happy to cater for whatever you need. Wouldnt hesitate to recommend.
Beautiful location and views not expected in Tunbridge Wells. A hidden gem.Lovely food but if you are a big eater may find you need plenty of the pre starter bread.
What a great place. We were here for a wedding and all I can say is wow. Views are unbelievable and staff are brilliant.
What a great evening! Went out with my wife for her birthday meal, and I can say if youre after a refined yet cozy and stylish meal out in TW this is at the top of the list. Excellent food -fautless even, I had the mackerel for starters and the venison for the main (see pics) the venison was especially indulgent with a perfectly cooked haunch and a mini venison shepherds pie on the side! Great atmosphere and wine choices on the pricier side of things but worth every penny for the quality served up here.
We used to come to the Beacon all the time, although it was never cheap, and especially if we had guests in town, but no longer.Although I understand that weddings are a great money-spinner, it seems that they take precedence over loyal locals who might just want a drink or two - or perhaps a meal. Last time (a Sunday afternoon) the whole place was closed for a wedding. The time before that there were several staff sitting around a table in the main bar, but we were told we couldnt be served - no reason given. We left and sadly I dont think well be back. Not the friendly place it used to be, such a shame!(Later) Response to managers reply:I am truly sorry about the hard time that you, like the rest of us, have had during the pandemic. I can only imagine how tough its been, especially now with the ping-demic. However, some constructive criticism which you say you love - every time you feel like being rude to an old customer online, take three deep breaths, count to 10, drink a glass of water, then dont do it.Although the Sunday we visited was recent, the previous time I mentioned was not during a lockdown, and nor were the many times before that, when the word that comes to mind is indifference. Perhaps we were just unlucky and came only when staff were having a bad day. Perhaps.I am just sad; we and our family and friends have spent so many happy times at The Beacon, spending thousands over the years.
Stopped off for a leisurely lunch after a walk. Gorgeous setting and great food. The honey panna cotta was a particular highlight.
Amazing place. The owners have done an excellent job bringing it up to date, fresh and cosy. Would recommend breakfast lunch or dinner. Lovely views over the rolling hills of Tunbridge Wells / the garden of England.
Disappointing Sunday lunch today. Set menu with one vegetarian option. Daughter ended up having just veg and yorkshire pudding. Two very small slices of beef with lots of fat on it - I like my meat pink but this was undercooked. Dessert was just a joke; a huge bowl with one spoonful of white chocolate mousse and some berries on top. All for the outrageous sum of £138 for four people.
I had a very strange experience at The Beacon today. We arrived around 3:40pm to get a drink and we were told that they were no longer open as the bar staff was having a mental breakdown. The manager was polite enough but obviously we were really disappointed. I hope the staff at Beacon are feeling better, but it definitely has put me off visiting again.
A fabulous evening at the Beacon - well thought out tasting menu, excellent value for money for a special occasion and the service was truly brilliant. Highly recommend.
My husband and I arrived just before 12pm for what they call brunch. If you google brunch times its clearly states between 11- 2pm. What the place serves you is breakfast! You cannot call it brunch, as it does not spill into the lunch time service. It was my husbands birthday and we came here as a birthday treat for brunch. When we arrived we was refused brunch beacuse the kitchen said they stop serving brunch at 11.50. Another misleading information on your website as it state a clearly 12pm! We arrived just before. I explained that it was my husbands birthday and if we could please please PLEASE have brunch as he was looking foward to it. We was refused! We have never been rejected a service like this before from any restuarant and normally recieve an outstanding service where they go extra mile for special occasions. Not this place! Customer service is out of the window! The lunch time menu was full on/heavy meals, not many sides or appetizers at all. I forced my husband to get something of the menu, so he choose the sausage roll. We was served half a sausage roll. There was no mention on the menu that you will be served half a sausage roll for £6. Again misleading information. I ordered a soup which was horrible, even my 2 year old son rejected it. I forced my self to eat it. There was nothing on the menu for my son.Over all to conclude the place is very misleading with what they offer, the time they offer and what you will actually recieve for your money. The grounds is nice but the customer service is poor and they do not value customers or care if youre trying your best to make someones day special. I told three different staff member its my husbands birthday and he wanted the brunch. I looked upset but they said no we cannot help.I will not be returning and will post this on all the groups Im on warning people. I was recommended this place as a treat! What a let down.
A beautiful, peaceful place with stunning views.
Absolutely beautiful views lovely food, nove staff. Well worth a visit
Came here for lunch and the steak I had was delicious, the atmosphere was good and the service was great.
You cant fault this place, we often go to the Beacon on a lazy Sunday, the service is attentive, the atmosphere always relaxed. Theres rarely a wait even when theyre busy and for the quality of the food served its actually really reasonable. They serve a seasonal menu, beetroot and pickled blackberries were accompaniments this time around 👌
We just had a lovely meal . the steak was beautiful cook . well done 👍
Tasting menu was excellent and service and atmosphere top notch!
Really nice place. Service very good. Nice food.
Stunning view, great service and good coffee, perfect for a day off treat
Amazing food and great service.
Good food, excellent service in a stunning setting
A real gem! Building is quirky and full of character, food is rich, well cooked and seasonal, and the atmosphere is very good too. The lamb main was outstanding - even the mint jelly won rave reviews. Already planning a return visit.
A Sunday lunch in the Garden Restaurant was very nice although we did need to ask for more vegetables as the kitchen seemed a bit tight with these. The choice was limited and I am aware this is more set up for snacks than full meals. The service was however superb and prompt.A delightful concert to follow from Beyond The Barricade in the new amphitheater was the highlight of our day, well of our YEAR actually.
We thoroughly enjoyed a lunch in the new garden restaurant downstairs. The new menu is more tapas style with a wonderful variety of lite bites and a few heavier sharing plates. The ambience is stunning and the service flawless. Thank you.
Great food at a reasonable price, though certainly not budget.Complex dishes with many flavours & textures.Service was not the best and the portion sizes are small .Still recommend it.
Lovely new outside area with fab views. Social distancing all handled really well and nice staff. Will certainly book for food next time as only stopped for a beer on a walk.
I love the dishes here and the smiley staff who are welcoming. This is a venue for any desired purpose. Great bar and terraced area with neat decor.
Cannot wait to go back. A stunning restaurant in every way. 5 stars doesn’t do it justice. !
Lovely lunch set menu. Delicious! Good wine and friendly service. We will be back
Beautiful views and beautiful food!
Food good, service very good. Portion sizes small however, so overall pretty expensive for what we got. Sunday lunch is better value.
Had a wonderful experience for my birthday. We sat out on the terrace as it was beautiful sunny day. The staff were incredibly friendly and accommodating as we moved table. Food was incredible, in particular the pickled veg starter. The portions for our roasts we plentiful and we left very happy indeed. Looking forward to going back soon.
The Garden Room menu was very different and intriguing. The chickpea fries were delightful and the Hot smoked salmon, beetroot and picked egg delicious. Shame the weather spoilt the view.
Modern British cuisine, with some ingredients grown on site. Fantastic terrace with long views when the weather is good, looking over Victorian landscaped lakes (Happy Valley). Inside a great dining room, with huge fireplace, oak panelling. Private dining rooms for small gatherings, plus larger function room downstairs for more informal feel, with lower terrace, vintage Citroen catering van. Dog friendly, impeccable service. A little pricey, but you get what you pay for.
Great food and what a view!!
Lovely light lunch as we had our bike ride round Rushall.
Great views, food and staff. Awesome place to visit if youre in the area
Absolutely fantastic. Left London for the afternoon on a Sunday - walked through parks and quiet roads for about an hour from the local station, ending at The Beacon. We were met with good ales and a beautiful view from their terrace, followed by a superb Sunday roast in their dining room. Staff and service were great - the place was remarkable. Posh patrons in what appears as a cross between posh mansion house and country pub. Not pretentious, however. Very relaxing. Highly recommended as a destination for food, drinks, and atmosphere. Especially enchanting as a day away from the big city.
Always perfect!
Took my family for a birthday celebratory lunch. Great decor with fantastic views and a homely, cozy atmosphere. The staff were friendly, made a fuss of my small kids and didnt let the mess we made be an issue. The food was good but not exceptional and fairly good value. Looking forward to retuning the summer!
We recently had our wedding at The Beacon. It is without doubt one of the most glorious settings in the south east, a rare find with the most incredible food and a superstar team. What they have created is utter perfection; its somewhere that gets better and better upon every visit. They are determined to create the best possible experience for guests and they do. Their service is impeccable and attention to detail was first-class. We had guests from overseas who will now be making special trips just to visit The Beacon. We feel extremely fortunate to have a world class spot so close to home and would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone looking for a special venue for a celebration.
I really enjoyed the food and the atmosphere. The interior has all the character of the English countryside yet it’s sophisticated. Menu is very well priced and the wine list too. Staff was very nice and welcoming especially with our little dog.
Unfortunately my partner and I did not feel welcomed by the staff at our recent trip to the Beacon. Instead we were greeted by a surly looking waiter who directed us to the lower seating area as it seemed we did not fit in with the venues new target market, which apparently is strictly upper class (in their view!) white middle aged golf club members and the elderly. I have been to the Beacon for the occasional meal and drink for many years, but will not be returning until they cheer up a bit and are more welcoming to the younger members of society, who deviate slightly from those showcasing m&s blazers. It does have a nice view, but can only be enjoyed from the VIP area at the top tier.
What a gem? Was working from home and fancied lunch out so thought wed have a look at the Beacon. Driven past the end of the road for years but never ventured down. Its gorgeous. Perfect setting overlooking Tunbridge Wells, great service and delicious food. I went off piste for me and had rabbit cottage pie. What a winner. Really tasty but not overly rich. Well be going back.
What a glorious experience!! We sat outside while we ate and looked out at the stunning views. Food was top notch too. We will be back soon!
Great venue
The setting is incredible, beautiful interiors and the view is the best in Tunbridge Wells. The food is the delicious and staff super friendly. Always top of my list for an evening out.
The place itself is good. Staff is very average... regarding the price of the food and drink, I would expect a better service. The food... in the menu it look great, but once in your plate its very poor. Portion are small and not really tasty. Its seems to e very random, our previous lunch was really good. And book in advance, its always full.
Superb Sunday lunch. Staff and service excellent. Cant recommend more highly.
Superb food, delightful views, excellent service, reasonable prices. What more could you wish? Some slight negatives: limited car parking and a little disabled/elderly/infirm unfriendly with stairs and steps in abundance. Extensive wine list but a tad expensive and perhaps veering too much towards French. Nevertheless worth a visit. Enjoy!
Excellent, good set menu, great value. We also loved the service and beautiful location. Highly recommend.
We stayed for 3 nights as a birthday celebration for my wife. The Colonial room in which we stayed is interestingly furnished and has fabulous views in three directions. The breakfasts were wonderful. We had dinner on one night and that too was excellent. All the staff with whom we came into contact were pleasant and helpful. Highly recommended.
OMGosh...what a beautiful place...highly recommended...pop in for a cuppa or book your wedding, celebrations, catch up lunches or romantic dinners...only one grumble... you will have to find overnight accommodation elsewhere.
We booked this place for a birthday lunch, there were 4 adults & 3 children.Given table by the door, very cold when doors open!!Service was very slow, we ordered for the adults 4 roast dinners (2 pork & 2 beef), for the children 3 roast dinners, 2 lambs & 1 beef). When the food arrived for the adults, the beef dinners were very small (3 small pieces of beef, very red, small amount of fat), the pork was OK but a large amount of fat). The children lamb dinners were were very poor, the meat was full of fat (could not be cut, let alone eaten). The Yorkshire puddings were burnt (should not have been served), the carrots were over done, the parsnips (1 per plate), the potatoes were lightly done. All in all it was a great disappointment, the kids were upset as the food was not good, it spoilt the birthday lunch. At one point we did complain about the lamb & we were given some more (which was not full of fat), but by then the kids were not interested. We did not order any sweets, no one asked how our food was!! Just paid rhe bill & left!!!Very very disappointed with the whole experience !!!
Menu and inside is very presentable as you dive in to your food there is presents of seasoning, gravy wasnt good too. Did not feel very welcomed on our arrival. Good place to have quick pint thats all.
Really need to advertise on website when they are shut for a private function. Love this place but don’t enjoy driving there to discover closed for the whole afternoon!! Especially when you made the drive just to go there. Modern communication chaps, Twitter / Facebook, your own website are easy to update your clients
100% worth a visit. I went for Sunday Lunch for the second time and we had an excellent time. Luckily it was a sunny day so we got to sit out on the terrace which has amazing views. The food was seriously good, especially the roast beef and ducks leg! Thank you The Beacon, well be back soon!
Been here a few times and it’s always a great experience. Lovely place to be with family, a good pint and fantastic food.
We went there to celebrate our good friends birthday. Using one of the private dining areas, the service and food were just fantastic and Viv and Pete simply know how to make the experience work
Great views and lovely food. The building is a real historical gem on the outskirts of Tunbridge wells and a great place for Sunday lunch
Beautiful venue and brilliant food
A really lovely place with different locations to eat both indoors and outdoors. Charming service. The food on both our visits was excellent. Al a carte is a little on the expensive side, but on both occasions I ate from the daily menu, which offers excellent value for money.
We will be back as we have had great food, tasty beer and good experiences from our local. The staff were helpful and friendly and did their best with a menu that didn’t quite fit with a summer evening and the demand to sit, eat and take in the amazing view. We shouldn’t been given the choice to opt for a dish (whole roast chicken) that would take a long time to fully cook, lesson learned for us too. It’s just the menu to look at so that all dishes are relatively quick to produce to fluctuating demand so as to release unnecessary pressure on staff and customers.
Lovely location and good food but not what we expected. We went on Sunday 24th December for a birthday lunch and checked before hand that it wouldnt be a Sunday roast menu and was assured that it would not be. It was. The staff were apologetic and were able to come up with non roast options for us.
Well I have been to the beacon a few times before but I dont know whats happened recently. my friend and I went for lunch, we chose a table that we thought was best to enjoy the lovely view but only to be told we couldnt sit there because it was a table for four so we had to find a table for two ! We were the only people there because it was still quite early it soon started to fill up and we watched other two people Being told the same thing and looking as bemused as we were ! The food was good but very small portions I thought it was overpriced and a bit pretentious and I have never been told l cant sit somewhere because there maybe a bigger party to accommodate hmm on a Monday lunch time and when we left there were still lots of empty 4tables left !! Ridiculous !!
Overpriced and lacking in atmosphere for a Friday night. The service was good but the food portions were tiny unless ordering sides, which added to the cost considerably. I had one gin and three courses for just under £50. Disappointing as I had hoped for something a bit special. The menu felt a bit dated.
Beautiful scenery. Very polite and efficient friendly staff. Nice atmosphere.
Great value for money, excellent service. Great ambience with lovely open fires. What more do you want!
Lovely setting. Staff are always welcoming & attentive. The new winter 2018 menu is good & a great improvement on summer.
Best roast beef and all the trimmings I have ever had and what a wonderful setting too.
Good beer and food. Not best to stop for a quick pint as not a real bar area. Views in the summer are beautiful. Friendly staff.
First time at The Beacon with friends since the change of ownership, I have been coming here for many years. The refurbishment of the building has been well executed with the feature plaster ceilings retained, a thorough fresh coat of paint and a vastly improved terrace area which highlights the views even better than before. The service and food were excellent but the major drawback is that Harveys beer has been removed and replaced with inferior alternatives. To make matters worse, when I asked for a straight glass to enjoy the pleasant but cloudy Tonbridge micro brew I was told that I could only have a jug - good real beer tastes better from a straight glass...I ask the new owners to reinstate the good stuff even if they charge a little more for it - you could then enjoy a glass of proper high class beer - and then enjoy your meal with good wine. Very disappointed of East Sussex
I was actually photographing a wedding at The Beacon. The service and the food were excellent throughout the day. When the weather is nice it is a fab location with wonderful views. Cosy inside but great on the terraces in the sunshine.
A lovely environment with lots of inside and outside seating. In the summer it is lovely behind the premises in the ‘garden’ where there are ponds and open space for sports and playing around.
Views to linger on. Great welcome and so so cozy atmosphere. Cant comment on the food as we didnt try it
Second visit and unfortunately disappointed. The car park was very busy but 5 prime spaces were blocked off all evening for no reason. The bar-man was very grumpy and not happy when I asked where the second drink of my order was. The food was average, particularly the crab salad which was great last time but felt like theyd cut the portion by 76% this time round! There was a wedding taking place in a private room but still not what I expected after my previous visit.
Beautiful restaurant with an amazing view. Food is bang on and staff are fantastic. Would recommend to anyone.
High quality pub and customer service. The group roast is a particularly good idea and the kids menu (a bit limited for mains) has great dessert!
Such a great place. Friendly staff. Celebrated my wifes birthday. She had a amazing time. Thank you everyone. Ps. The steak is the best I have had in a very long time!!!
Always love this place. The views are amazing, the drinks are excellent, as is the decor, and the staff and food are both tremendous. Would highly recommend to anyone in the summer and likewise the inside is cosy in the winter. There is also a room for private hire
VERY rude staff. Will never go again. Went to book a large table for 25th wedding anniversary. As we live local to the pub we walked in early one evening and after trying to get some attention walked into the bar. Again waited for service and was approached by a staff member who without asking can I assist you told us we could not stand at the bar nor could we sit at any of the (numerous) empty tables. We left immediately and our party of 6 went to The Ivy in T Wells. Great meal and would recommend the service and food.
The Beacon is a lovely high quality pub with great food. If you can sit outside on the terrace at lunchtime on a sunny day, youre in the best spot in Tunbridge Wells.
