A manageable size art museum with a fantastic collection. Well worth a membership! Free parking.
This is an amazing art museum. they have some rotating exhibits that really spark interest, but their static exhibits are really creative and thought-provoking. in addition to the galleries inside, there a sculpture garden outside of unique pieces. dont forget to stop by the book store/gift shop. it has some special pieces that just might tickle your fancy.
This Muesem was really cool and nice, and the artwork was just amazing. There was a room with really old books (bit of a book freak over here) and there was a room with optical illusions. There is a sculpture garden outside along with a sort of run down but still nice labrinth,(but its not there anymore, there is just the spot where it was). The only thing I WOULD complain about is the old security guard kept stalking me and my sister the WHOLE time! He even came up to us and said Sorry miss but you cant have water bottles in here pointing at her WALLET. Then after that he was very sus but other then coming over a bunch of times after that it was okay. The art is awesome though. Would definitely recommend, but not for children under the age of 10, they will most likely get bored very quickly. If you have small children I would recommend the please touch muesem down the street. There is also a kids room but Im pretty sure that its still closed.
We were visiting from Chicago on a business trip, looking for free things to do in the evenings. We appreciated DAM having free admission (thank you, DuPont) Thursday evening -- its a lovely little art museum, not too large. We walked around the entire first floor in about 1.5 hours. The displays are beautiful and they have a nice selection of American Art. Their grounds are lovely too. Highly recommended!
Many exhibit halls were closed and being reimagined. The museum still had great art work and a sculpturegarden. Staff was very friendly.
Carefully curated museum mostly dedicated to American Art. A lot of refreshing themes of American Art that I havent seen in other larger east coast museums! Definitely was a surprise visit! This is one of the smaller museums that you can spend hours browsing their quality artworks in collection!
Wonderful art museum with thoughtful exhibits. Definitely a wonderful thing to do in Wilmington!
I really enjoyed this museum and I feel it deserves a higher rating. No, it isn’t a giant museum and the works are pretty specific and limited in genre, but wow, they had some great stuff! I loved the Pyle rooms. This was a discovery of this artist for me and I love him now! I also really love the Pre-Raphaelite artworks (with the red haired beauties!). 2 hours wasn’t enough time for me. I missed a couple of rooms and could have used another half hour but I got kicked out at 4 when they closed (they really should consider staying open till 5 like most museums!). The special exhibit of juried artists was also fabulous (recyled material artworks).
Free on a rainy Sunday. Lovely art and beautiful building. The outdoor displays and labyrinth was a sweet bonus.
Delaware Art Museum is open to the public. There were few people making viewing enjoyable. Everyone abided by safe distancing and masks. To the Pyles, whom we discovered; a great illustrator for early book, magazine, and newspaper. To the best pre-Raphaelite collection in the U.S. Well worth a visit.
Nice collection! Great setting, friendly staff....definitely a nice place to visit.
Loved the museum! It provides a great experience and is very informative and educational with all the beautiful works of art.
Half off for students and military. Good prices with a large array of art and not very crowded during the pandemic. Attentive staff that was very passionate about the art there and its history. Even without a guide with us, we received a nice amount of information from staff about pieces we were interested in.
Always a great mix of styles and artists, along with the permanent works.
I attended the Chinese New Year Celebration as a student ASL and English interpreter. This was my first time at the Delaware Art Museum, and I have to say, I was blown away. I arrived early, met the friendly and accommodating staff, and was able to tour the museum before it became crowded. It is gorgeous! I especially love the room that is downstairs called the Kids Corner. It is so colorful, vibrant, and has tons of interactive aspects for children. As for the Chinese New Year Celebration, I believe it went off without a hitch. The staff had prepared a number of delightful activities for children and scheduled very impressive and interesting performances. I believe everyone involved had a wonderful time. It warms my heart that the Deaf children were able to take part in all of these activities with full communication accessibility, thanks to the hired interpreters and volunteer interpreters, such as myself. It was a fun and excited day for everyone. Now that I know it is there, I plan to visit the museum again in future.
This museum is gem of the Delaware Valley. It has a great art collection and a great gift shop.
Weve been to a few bigger art museums, but weve been fascinated by the art displayed in this museum. The staff is really friendly. The place is lovely. A pleasant lady at the front desk. There is an impressive collection in this small town museum. Bigger than expected.
Amazing place and wonderful staff! Had a great time.
Many beautiful arts were amazing and fantastic. I was really impressed and enjoy.
Yep!!! Good to Go
Their drive-in movie nights are a perfect outing in the COVID-19 era. Thanks, DAM!!!
Not much there .half the place is closed and alot of empty space for art work that is not there at all.
We have been to a few bigger art museums but we were impressed with the art displayed at this museum. The staff was very friendly. We went on a Thurs 4-8 and it was free with live music and people outside relaxing. The location is beautiful. We were able to see Civil Rights inspired exhibits that are ending soon and really impressed by those exhibits. The gift store is great. We will def return and enjoyed our time.
I really enjoyed the museum. The illustrations by Howard Pyle and others were interesting. I also enjoyed the Pre-Raphaelite gallery. The Layered Abstraction exhibit and the Julio daCunha exhibit were great, as well.
It is always a treat to view the latest exhibits and visit old friends at the Delaware Art Museum.
It was free admissions when I first visited the museum. Its small, but have a lot of quality art pieces!
What an amazing time! Staff is really helpful and nice. Kid friendly.
Fabolous place to visit here.Staff was nice and polite. You can get snacks from here with reasonable rates.
While not as glorious as big city counterparts in Philadelphia or Washington, this small town museum has an impressive collection. We happened to be in the area on a day when admission was free (Sunday August 5th). Parking is free and the snack bar is very reasonably priced. It was a very nice way to spend a few hours.
The art was was wonderful the story and history of the artists are interesting pirates of the Caribbean actors and director came to this museum to see how they would play pirates use the fashion from the paintings...
Nice arts. Free parking. Spent good time with kids. Terrace with enough chairs and tables for food. Free day on every Sunday.
This is an excellent small museum with one of the best illustration collections Ive seen. It also features a well executed sculpture garden. I was glad I took the time to visit, I will return and I recommend it as a museum that others should visit.
First time there and it was beyond my expectations. Bigger than expected and the front desk lady was very kind. Gave me a map and explained the layout of the musuem. Art was beautiful with modern art on the second level. Will be back for sure to check out the sculpture garden !
Went here for an event that my childs school had. I would advice you only use cash when purchasing something from here. The lady that was on register at the food court had an attitude the whole time and when checking my bank statement I saw that they charged my card three times for 1 purchase I made. Other than that lady the rest of the staff was very helpful and friendly
5* for drive in movie nights during COVID-19
My boyfriend was kicked out completely just for having a water bottle that could’ve been discarded if they just asked. Security is really wack. It makes us art students not want to come at all.
An amazing small museum that has impressive collections. Good specialization and comprehensive exhibits.Children room is lacking but a major expansion has been announced.Good sculpture garden.
Had a very negative experience with my 3 year old daughter today. We were there for the story time and she was not able to pay attention, was running everywhere and she took off her shoes. As I was leaving a security guard said that she needed to have her shoe on: I was just about to leave. I decided I wanted my $5 back: the woman at the desk took 3 phone calls as I was waiting and my daughter ran around some more. The security guard was not pleased and continued to tell me that my daughter was not acting appropiately. I asked to speak to his supervisor and that man started to be mad at me: I was loosing my temper. Finally a person: Brendan was not trying to give me a hard time- he was kind, considerate and walked me to my car, helped get her shoes on ect. If your child is not perfect don’t bring them to story hour on Friday. This only for kids that act like robots. This is not for kids with any disabilities or abilities: they just need to sit there. And that not for my daughter. Hello people- sensitivity training- stop amping it up. When a mother is struggling with her daughter: don’t make it harder on her. Don’t have an ongoing event for 2 year olds and expect them to act like adults. The last thing a mother needs is to hear a security guard tell her that her kids needs to act their age when the kid is 3. Hello- she was acting her age. And please encourage parents instead of discourage them. Good luck!
Free admission on Sundays. Have visited many times and always enjoy my visit.
Art was not inspiring...mostly illustrations and the staff was rude (specifically security guard... I was sitting on a bench in a hall way and he accosted me for having a tiny back pack on?) Immediately left and wont be back.
My girlfriend dragged me here. I didnt even know this place existed. I found it very interesting. It was bigger than I expected and beyond my expectations!
I like the collections and the traveling exhibits. The museum store always has many things I want. The sculpture garden and wooded grounds are lovely.
Excellent, intimate museum. Holds perhaps the best American collection of Pre-Raphaelite art in its collection, as well as works from notable artists of the Delaware Valley. Worth a visit if in Wilmington.
Shakespeare soliloquies in the sculpture garden
Great flow from room to room - tons of historic value & education. Lovely gift shop and a simple but unique walking labyrinth that is truly calming.
Its a wonderful place to visit
I have been taking a pottery/ceramics class here for a while now. Its wonderful.
Very nice for the price. Took Mom out for the afternoon. 10/10 would go again.
Very nice museum and a great location in a quiet area. Very pleased I had a Exhibition there in 2008
The Delaware Art Museum has the largest collection of Pre-Raphaelite art outside the U.K. and it is exquisite. Dante Rossettis unfinished work, Found, which he considered one of his most important, is on display. The museum hosts other collections and is small enough to be enjoyed in one visit. The grounds are beautiful as well. If you love the Pre-Raphelites you have to visit this museum.
We did a day trip from DC over the weekend. At the time of our visit, there were street closures surrounding the museum. While there are detour signs, there was no clear way to access the museum--there was a single sign that said Art Museum. After calling the museum and getting a less than helpful response to take Bancroft straight through, we circled back to the street and realized our error. The reason for the confusion was due to a Road Closed sign that was placed on one side of Bancroft Parkway (a two-lane road in a residential area), leading us to believe that the entire street was closed. However, if you continued onto the unpaved road, you will be able to reach the museum.Admission to the museum is $12 and parking is free. For art aficionados, the lure is their collection of Pre-Raphaelite art, and early 19th century American illustrator Howard Pyle. Dont miss the murals of Howard Pyle, which are on display until the end of December. Truly beautiful and one of my favorite parts of our experience. We were able to view the entirety of the museum in about 2-2.5 hours, but there are public tours available at 1 and 2 pm. Having visited all the Smithsonian art galleries as well as the DIA and the MET, I appreciated the intimacy of a smaller space and the ability to view the art without feeling like youre on top of other patrons. We were able to view everything at a relaxed pace. A hidden gem in Wilmington.
Just leaving the Delaware Art Museum is the Our America/Nuestra América exhibition of Latin American art; remaining is the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood collection which makes this place worth a visit.
A very horrible experience. It doesnt even deserve 1 star. From the moment we walked in we were followed around by security and staffed. Dont touch the pictures, stay 4 feet away from the drawings, no drinks or food allowed, stop playing with the spinner because of security reasons. This was our first time here and it is our last. I really felt that because we are latinos we were being targeted. I want everyone to know how bad we felt and how disrespectful we were treated. Maybe if we were white we would be treated differently.
Staff were very knowledgeable, polite and helpful.
Such a positive influence on the community!
Great small museum perfect for day trippers.
I didnt even know this place existed. While not as large as museums in Philadelphia or New York City, it was still larger than I expected.
Fun festival, easy to find location.
Very lovely place to visit
Wonderful art and relaxing garden!
Great Gift Shop for Christmas
Fabulous find a gem in Wilmington Delaware
Good for the most part
Very nice place
I plan to revisit very very soon
