Many, many, many years & as many guitars, but these guys manage to make my next guitar always better than my last! Latest Workhorse is the best ever! Simply unparalleled! Thanks to Roy, Scott and all the crew! You too blaze!
I purchased an upgrade wiring kit for my R8 Les Paul. The pots do sound fine but Ive found they are not durable/dependable. Ive had other wiring kits in this guitar and they hold up to pickup swaps with my 35 watt Weller iron. These RS pots, on the other hand, will cut out and you have to blast them with electronics/control cleaner until they come back to life. Again, I an not using that hot of an iron, 35 watt (adjustable). These pots simply arent dependable enough. Now Ive noticed my neck pickup volume pot has lost its taper; its full signal or nothing (it will not clean up with overdrive like the bridge can). Guess its time for a new wiring kit, maybe Mojotone, Stewmac, JEL, anything really.
Refretted and dressed my WAL MK3 fretless 12yrs ago. Superb job. Gonna have them do it again. guys there are solid.
Roy and Scott were down to earth guys and treated every second of my time as valuable. Traded with them for an Amazing Work of Art, the Stepside 32 Bass.

Real friendly great work..
I can’t say enough incredible things about my experience...but I’ll try! I had sent my Fender Custom Shop 1950 Double Esquire telecaster in for a “tone tweak” to fix some problems my tech couldn’t quite get right without a long wait (my tech is great, but he’s swamped and I was impatient and needed this thing right before I threw it in a fire).I saw some RigRundowns on YouTube and have seen some mentions for RS Guitarworks and their restorations, for example of Rich Robinson’s damaged ES-335 from Hurricane Sandy and that he always has his stuff “relic’d”. So, I went on their website. It was easy to fill out the work order and made a call and sent my guitar to them. They got back to me within in one day of receiving my guitar. I had wanted them to setup the tele with Glendale Saddles, new Kluson Deluxe staggered tuning machines with 18:1 ratio, new nut and a steel 6100 refret. The initial gentleman I spoke with, Billy, was very honest and forthright for the reasons not wanting to do a refret: a) steel frets sound terrible, b) ruin the vintage aesthetic and c) they destroy their filing tools. Then, Roy called me to talk to me about the 6100 refret and the pros and cons of huge frets. It’s a brand new guitar and depending on how you play, there is a tendency for both E strings to “slip” off of the fretboard and can be a problem. He made sense and talked me out of a refret because it was best for the guitar and my needs—he didn’t have to do that. He saved me time and money. That meant a lot, especially because he said the turn around time would be by the end of the week. RS Guitarworks even does walk-in setups and you can wait while they do it.So, as you can imagine, they are busier than a one legged man in an ass-kicking contest, and I called them back around the end of the week: and that’s when I talked to “The Glue”, Lisa. Lisa is the intermediary between the team doing the physical work, she makes sure that she writes down exactly your request as to what you want done. She is pleasant, courteous, patient and most importantly competent. She knows guitar-speak and probably knows more than you when it comes to guitars and their mechanics. Lisa keeps the ship steady and together. I had to have my guitar by a certain day and she went above and beyond to get my guitar shipped to me after their normal shipping was done for the day. She had someone drive to UPS just for my guitar to get overnighted to me. Lisa also told me that rest assured, everyone in the shop took time to sit down with my guitar and played it to make sure it was right. I thought that was a cool detail. Now, here’s the best part. I got my Double Esquire back and tuned it up and immediately thought, “Wow. This is slinkier?! Are these tens?” They saved the nut and built up the problem slots and filed them to the proper depth. I can tell Roy did this because the original stain/lacquer is on the outer edges of the nut still—HOWEVER—if it IS a new nut, that attention to detail is or would be insane and labor intensive. The Glendale Saddles are dialed in, dead-nuts for intonation. The tuning machines aren’t that complicated and I could’ve just dropped them in myself but why chance it? They were installed perfectly—highest post on the low E and gradual smaller posts down to the high e for equal pressure on the nut. The thing plays so easily now. Stays in tune rock solid. If you think it’s overpriced, go somewhere else. This is honest luthier craftsmanship and service. Anyone can afford anything if they save for long enough. The price reflects your enjoyment and they are aware of saving you money if they can. Hell! They talked me out of a refret. To get a guitar working properly, it costs what it costs. Don’t nickel and dime them because you won’t get a guitar that’s “right”. Each guitar has its mystery to solve to get it dialed in. Trust them. TRUST ME! Goddamned modern day Stradivari is what they are!I’m so impressed I sent them my Vintage ‘63 Les Paul Jr. for a refin and refret. I can’t wait. Neither should you!! Thanks RS Guitarworks!
These guys make excellent guitars but they are very pricey. Definitely overpriced.
