Buyer beware!!!I went in and bought my first shotgun this last weekend. Overall, and the reason I am giving them a 3 star vs a 2 star, the employees were very nice and helpful. I explained that this was my first firearm purchase. Unfortunately, I asked for a box of shells that would work for the gun I bought and was given the wrong size. Now, I didnt know that it was incorrect until I read through the manual and that is on me.The problem comes from me trying to return the shells (the next day) and was told that there were no returns on ammo, even if I was given the wrong kind (as a side note there was no mention that neither the gun nor the ammo was returnable when I purchased them). I was also told that I would have to go through the manufacturer (Kent) for a return. Sadly, that manufacturer doesnt do returns and said the store should have. Basically each side putting the customer service part on the other party.Needless to say I am somewhat disappointed that I was sold a box of shells that was inappropriate for the firearm I was buying at the same time. I spent about $40 on the box which is over half of what I saved on buying the shotgun on sale. The cost isnt that big of a deal, and I am happy with the quality of the gun but I am now feeling that I wont be able purchase any other ammo or weapons from them. And I will also be rethinking if they will be high on the list of other sports/outdoor related items. Too bad, their locations have been convenient for me in the past.So, moral of the story, dont rely on their staff to give you the correct product you are looking for and ultimately it was on me to been more prepared.

I enjoy shopping here. Employees are very helpful and knowledge. Prices are quite competitive. Lots of sporting stuff in a small area, more than you would expect

I found what I needed n then some. Its good to go in when they have seasonal sales as well, score! Friendly staff too.

Big 5 sport stores have been around for a minute and they dont disappoint. I bought a nice pair of hiking boots and memory foam inserts and the pricing was great. Most of their pricing is very competitive and they have name brands of course. Check it out!

Minus them being out of stock on mini propane tanks at the time. This store did have the shoes I was looking for. The store is clean, stocked, and presentable but abit over priced on some of their workout gear other than that big 5 carries most of your sporting good needs!

It was good the staff was friendly n I got my shoes in fast time n was out within 8 minutes.

Didnt have 1lb propane bottles. Otherwise they are pretty good.

They had pickle balls at a reasonable price they were easy to get to which made for a quick shopping trip. Friendly and helpful and a healthy section. No it is not a 200,000 sq ft store. But then, I did not want a megamart. Do them right and drop by.

Bring it home since they are able to consistently provide Footwear that is applicable to the issues I have with my feet.NEVADOS is my choice for Footwear comfortable and they were on double discount sale at least expensive I found them yet and this is my third pair in a year and a half. Its like a candy store for men everything there deals bargain sales and they will get it from other stores they will do everything and anything to help out customer service is above the Barre

It was good had a lot of sports stuff but less shoes.

Staff was incredibly rude, so we left and went to the San Mateo location. Driving all the way down from Edgewood is not something my mother enjoys doing as shes retired and almost 70, but we did. The staff had still been on their lunch so we waited in the parking lot for a couple of minutes, thats fine, please enjoy your meal but there was no excuse to be rude as soon as opening your doors( you had an hour to decompress) Youre in the customer service business, you need to try to make their needs met.

30 years ago or so I bought my first baseball glove and gear from this place it hadnt changed a bit a great place to get outdoor gear if you dont like the big name stores that charge too much for their goods. Great work boot selection for the working person.

My grandson had to have the vampire mouthgaurd for flag football, hes delighted. This Big 5 always has the best customer service! Thank you!

Most things here are way more expensive then you could get online or at other stores. I wouldnt recommend coming here if you care about getting the best deal.

Called in. Asking about some ammo I needed for my firearms. The clerk was very informative about availability. The cost and when the next expected arrival of future shipment would be coming in. Thank Big5.🤠

Excellent experience at Big 5 over the weekend. The employee Colin greatly helped me with my purchase. He went into great detail of the whole transaction. He didnt seem impatient or bothered that I messed up on forms to fill out. We definitely need more people like Colin in general.

Heather went the extra mile when we couldnt find an item at Juan Tabo store. She called the S. Mateo store and checked if they had Heelys size 2. Not only that but she requested for them to hold them for us. Big thanks for being costumer orientated!!

My first time going to Big 5 they seemed sketched out. It look like they didnt expect me to buy anything at all and I think they were discussing a past robbery. My second time there they were really warm and helped me alot. I was really comfortable shopping.

Always a Happy-Greetings Staff. When you walk in they are very prompt and helpful. If your looking for sports stuff or even things like water guns. I enjoy the store and its hours. Its very close to home therefore its very convenient. Please stay in buisiness.

Nice stuff great staff

This place is my usual go to for general sporting goods and athletic equipment. Most experiences here have been great. But on 10/11/2020 I found the staff rude and unhelpful. No one wanted to help me with running shoes, I even talked to a sales associate who was walking through the section, no help. Add to this the no public restroom and absolute indifference of the staff to a potential emergency... I am unsure Ill go back.

Called 15 minutes before the store was going to close, the nice helpful voice said very politely in 15 minutes, I thanked him and then hung up and drove right over. When I drove up it was 8 minutes before they were to close, I could see them sweeping. When I walked in a was greeted with friendly hello. I said please I need your sale blankets, they are for a special donation. Ty Willis, one of those go above and beyond type of people, did not hesitate to help. He did not make any promises as he let me know they had received a limited number of blankets and most were to fulfill rain checks other customers had made. I was just happy he went to check, as he could have easily turned me away. Instead he made certain that he had enough to fulfill the orders of the customers before me and drumroll, he provide me with 4 beautiful blankets to purchase - so that I could donate to those in need. That polite voice from the call I made to the store to check on the time stepped out and said hello and said he knew it was me who had called. I’m sorry I didn’t ask your name but thank you! :)It was a very positive, fun,helpful experience.. great store,! Great people!!

Big 5 always has such a friendly staff and a well stocked inventory. They always have amazing sales and they especially have some awesome end of season clearances.

SUCH good service!!! 👏I couldnt try on my new running outfit because all the dressing rooms were closed due to Covid-19. Because of this, I went home with the wrong size. When I returned asking for an exchange the staff was absolutely wonderful, and made the experience 100% hassle free. On top of that, the manager was nice enough to allow me to exchange them for the right size AND a newer cuter design that had comeinsince I bought the original!!! Such wonderful staff, Ill never go to another store again 😁

This place was all right. I usually go to Sportsmans Warehouse because, they normally have the sizes that I need for my gear. I am 7 ft tall, and about 300 pounds. It is usually difficult to find outdoor gear that fits me appropriately. Big 5 was all right if you are of average stature. The staff however, I did not enjoy having to deal with them. My encounter was less-than-favorable. The guy I was talking to was less than helpful. Did not want to be bothered with my questions about the items. I am 100% blind, and required their assistance and making my purchases so that I was certain to be getting exactly that which I needed for my trip. I have not been back to this establishment since. They do have a nice selection, if I had not had such an unpleasant person I probably would have Revisited this establishment. I signed that it is possible.

A true SUPER STORE! My family and I have been shopping at this location for almost 3 decades! My experience today was superlative, consistent with previous visits. Employees, as always, were helpful and friendly, ready when I needed help, but not pushy. Accurate stock info on Big 5s website made armchair selection a breeze, so I had a pretty good idea what I wanted when I arrived. I was not disappointed by lack of availability on items labeled in stock on the website. Prices are competitive with other local retailers, if not lower, but the $10-off coupons bring me back time and time again!

We had the Best service during our shopping experience at Big 5 today. Matthew was the most helpful, hardest working young man I have seen in a long time. This store is smart to have positive hard working employees like Matthew and the others. The prices were amazingly affordable.

Great place to buy some perfect shoes. Did not have to go to the bathroom but Im sure the staff would have been helpful with showing the place to do so. Great sales people with wonderful attitudes!

Went shoe shopping with 3 kids able to get what we wanted though there was a bit of a wait as there were about 4 other families/individuals shopping for shoes as well. The salesman was but slow. I ended up finding the shoes we wanted on our own rather than waiting on the salesman.

Often have good hunting/fishing/camping. The rest of their stuff is kind of low quality.

Ran in needing a back-up baseball glove for my son, who had left his at home 20 minutes away. Practice was starting in 5. An employee (wish Id have asked his name!) dropped everything he was doing to not only find us a glove that fit (which I wouldnt have known how to do myself), but one that was on sale as well. He genuinely cared about us, and even though it was a 10-minute interaction, it meant a lot to my son and I to not have to look through the entire collection of gloves and probably end up paying for one that didnt work out. Great customer service...this is why I love Big 5!

Great location. I went in this store years ago to get my neighbors grandson a new baseball mit. He was good at ball but the family was on hard times so I gifted him the mit, I told the manager what I was doing and even brought the kid in with me to try on mits. The manager was involved and offered a discount, I couldnt believe hed be so kind to help complete strangers. Ive since bought many things from this store at full price so Im sure they recovered the $5 or so off I received. The point is I stayed loyal because of the way he stepped up to help us when he didnt have to.

Big 5 is our go-to store for shoes. Decent shoes for ok prices. However, its not always easy matching shoes ( the ones in boxes) to the correct price. The signs for the shoes that were on sale werent very informative.

Not greeted upon entering, but other than that was good. All employees were helpful. Manager approved 10% discount on a package that was opened and taped shut. Overall, it was a nice experience.

Two thumbs up play friendly comfortable atmosphere my shoes were in stock and on sale I paid less than Amazon eBay JCPenneys for my sketchers a new balance.
