Straight shooters here. I really like these ladies. Really professional.
Boat Works just helped me buy a used boat, and the whole process was so straightforward and professionally done. We were worried about buying a boat in the winter, but they thawed it out, did the inspections, checked the engine, rewinterized it, and even handled all of the nuances of title transfer and bill of sale. We didn’t even have to worry about how to transfer the cash to the seller - they handled the brokerage for a super reasonable fee. I’m so excited to have our new boat, and feel very confident it is the right fit for us after working with the people there. Highly recommend!
My boat started to make a noise from the jet unit and so I sought out their services to diagnose and repair the issue. Now I understand that this was the busy season for them and that it might take a little time to get the repair done.I dropped the boat off at the end of April and was told they would get the boat diagnosed and an estimate provided for the repairs. May 5th I get a call that they have figured out the issue, and they have emailed the estimate and an apology for taking so long to get the estimate done. They quoted me $2,566.13 for the repairs, $400 of which was parts.I call the next week and they are waiting on parts to arrive from Washington. Another week goes by and still we are waiting on the parts. At some point during this timeframe it is suggested that the cutlass bearing be replaced as well seems how they are in there already, to which I agree because it makes sense. At no point was the cost of these parts brought up.Another week goes by, so I call and a parts shipment has arrived but they are not sure if my parts are in this shipment. I am told I am number one on the list for service at this point and as soon as my parts are there they will get to work on my boat. I called the next day to see if they sorted through the parts that arrived the previous day to see if my parts had arrived, they did not.Memorial Day weekend is approaching and so I call to see if the boat will be ready by then. I am told they can rush it and they can have it done by Friday. I told them not to rush the job, and I actually have more work for them to do on the boat. I needed a second oil pressure guage installed on the motor for confirmation of good oil pressure and so I brought the new gauge for them to install.I call the following week on Wednesday to see how my boat is coming along as I was under the impression that they were working on it being they offered to rush the job to complete it by Friday the week before. I am informed that they havent started the work on my boat yet but I am first in line to get repaired. Again, how could it be rushed and completed the week before, especially when I am number one on the list, if the repairs have not been started? That Friday they call me and tell me that my boat is done but there is an additional $1,149.98 in parts that they had to order and install. Although I talked to them weekly, sometime multiple times, and although they had ordered the parts weeks before it wasnt until the payment was due that they tell me about the additional cost. This brings the total to $4,203.66.I pay the charges although I am not impressed with the communications they have shown. I get the boat in my possesion and do a look-over before running the boat. In the engine compartment I find oily rags, cut wires from unknown sources, cut zip-ties, wads of electrical tape, and other trash that was left behind. Then I notice that although the oil pressure guage is located good, the hardware they used to install it looks old and used, and is chewed up with what looks like visegrip teeth. The boat seems to function as it should although I only ran it for 30 minutes at this point. For the time that they had the boat and the amount of money that was paid I expected a lot more. But they assured me that they were doing everything they could to do me a favor and that they were not making any money on my boat. I would suggest keeping close tabs on your boat if you take it to them and look over their work before using your boat as they like to leave fire hazards in the engine compartment and the visual quality of their work leaves something to be desired.
These folks are amazing! Our gym needed new handles for our battle ropes and nobody else would touch them! Rob didnt hesitate! Even though the job was way out of their normal scope, he told us hed take care of it! Theres been great communication and hes paid close attention to what we needed, even ordering special materials and testing them to make sure theyd hold up through the extensive use were going to put them through! We dont even have a boat! The best type of people work here so go! If you go somewhere else youre going to miss out!
I agree with all the negative comments here. I just got hung up on as well because they didnt like what I had to say about the poor service I got here over the past 4 months trying to sell my boat. Oh, and Im adding a picture of what my boat looked like sitting on their lot ready to sell. REALLY! Cant argue with that professionalism and the secretary who claims nothing is her job! What is you job Laura? Rob doesnt take any accountability either. He had the nerve to ask if was going to pay them to set it up for me. What have I been paying you $150 a month for? You actually told me you would do that for me early on.
Rob is great to work with. From my experience they do the best work in Anchorage. Taken my boat in multiple times for various repairs. There have been times where I had deadlines for needing the boat and they worked at an accelerated pace or on the weekends to complete the job. Definitely something you dont see in other businesses.
Laura was very helpful on the phone even though they are at a high volume time of year with winterizing. This company sure gave me a great impression on the phone and I will be using them in the future.
Took my smaller river runner with 40hp honda to get serviced. Had the water pump changed and full tuneup. They were very professional and service was excellent. I will return again if needed.
I called for a couple questions that were related their business. 1st Question offered them a chance to sell me something high dollar. 2nd Question offered them a chance to point me in a direction and open them to a lifetime of service assistance. I was quickly given answers that they don’t have and don’t do and hung up on. Apparently like others have said they don’t care about people or their business. Hopefully they do well in this during the rest of this Covid-19 time, because I won’t be calling them Corona or not.P.S. This is regarding the owners response, which clearly shows what I stated. I will clarify my call since somehow asking two questions was “toxic”. I called boat works and asked the lady who answered the phone. “I’m not sure if you could help me and I am not sure the questions to ask but... I wanted to know if you sold boat trailers that can support 30’ ft boats @ 12,000lbs+/-, or are able to rent them “, or know someone who could help with the move? I found a boat in the lower 48 but am looking for a trailer to bring it up.” The lady snidely responded, “We don’t sell trailers and don’t rent them...CLICK” (aka hung up the phone). Basically my point is I didn’t have time to be “toxic” at all... so whoever wrote the Owner Reply below is just trying to cover their tracks rather than be proactive to customers even if they are only future customers. I am shopping boats but won’t be using your services even though Alaska has limited options. I didn’t expect an owner response to the review, but completely didn’t expect a throw a person you don’t know under the bus response.
The lady answering the phone is very rude...unprofessional. Hopefully it was just a one time deal....unlikely though.
BWA has performed work for me on a few occasions. Can you find a cheaper price, perhaps, but you wont find better quality service. The staff is great and they always respond to my questions in a timely manner. When it comes to marine services, you get what you pay for and I dont mind paying a little extra for the best work in town.
Better itemize service, communication is key. Talented staff techs. Expect to pay 155 per hour for everything.
Horrible service, overpriced gouged parts prices, shoddy craftsmanship, rude owner, unprofessional, dirty shop with multiple OSHA violations. Your boat deserves better regardless of how big or small it is. Take it anywhere but this chop shop.
Boat Works of Alaska is a professional, kind, honest and dedicated repair shop. You can tell that they take pride in their work, do everything they can to make sure it is done right the first time and they perform in a timely manner. The mechanics take the time to explain what is wrong and what they recommend without gouging - which these days is hard to come by! Thanks, BWA!
I only dealt with them on the phone but they were very knowledgeable and help answer all my questions I will gladly do business with them again.
Bought a boat that had been consigned. Had a punch-list of items that I wanted fixed at a later date. They did a great job and followed thru on all promises, and even completed extra work at no charge.
These people are crooks! They are also very rude. There are plenty of boat repair companies that will treat you with respect and not like a piece of dirt and not try to rip you off. I couldnt believe how unprofessional they were and their estimate was 2/3s higher than the others I got. Never again!!
The first thing that struck me when I received your request via email to write a review about Boat Works of Alaska (BWA), was your comment stating you were ... reaching out to our Happy Customers... for a review. That statement seemed to me to be a little strange. However, that being said, heres my review.I live in Seward and have a nice 24 ft. cuddy cabin I/O boat, that I use for both fishing as well as family use. Ive been using BWA for the past 3 - 4 years for most of my boat repairs and have been satisfied with the mechanical work thats performed. To clarify that remark, Ive never had to bring my boat back for servicing for the same issue(s). To that part of my review, I say thank you. There are two (2) items that I have concerns about however, they are: 1. There is/was a real lack of BWA to customer information flow, which for me is a real issue. Simply put, they have horrible communication skills; 2. Upon returning home, after repairs were completed and after my usual post work inspection, I found many parts and pieces of the job, left in the engine compartment of my boat. This, by the way, was not the first time I have found items left behind after a repair job. The quality assuredness just wasnt there. In conclusion. I state again, that BWA did a good job on fixing my boat; I would recommend them to others (along with my experiences and concerns); I did, and hopefully in the future continue to enjoy talking with the people (both the mechanics and the office staff) at BWA. I look forward to using their services in the future.
Took an older 20hp 2 stroke outboard in for a service. I requested fluid change, and seal check, and replace pinion gear in tiller arm, as well as replace fuel line from can. Said they would have it done in a week to 2 weeks. A month later I get it back, no work done and a bill for about 160.00. After the first 2 weeks I kept checking and they hadnt got to it. Apparently a was an unimportant small job. Finally got it back with its too old, we are afraid to work on it on the receipt. This was a very very low hours outboard that sat for 10 years.
Great service. Very knowledgeable.
Bought a boat with a motor that didnt last to long. Replaced with a Murc 383 stroker and have been having issues with it. They are more than willing to take the time to make things right! Even the day after surgery he is trying to get me on the water... good peps would recommend them to anyone!
Great outfit- Tuned my 115hp Etec, ran rhe computer diagnostic and indexed the plugs promptly and for a fair price. I will be back next time my Etec needs work.
Thanks to Rob and the crew at boat works. We had a little motor that needed a work over. Thanks for doing that and taking the time to show my son and I the ropes on how to care for his grandpas motor. Cant thank you enough for your services.
