I’ve personally never had problems with the owner. He was nice to when I came in. Both my mother and I are tarot readers. My mother is a professional reader with 20+ years of experience and I have been reading tarot since childhood. We were absolutely astounded by wall of tarot cards! They had every deck imaginable! There were at least 500 decks minimum! I got my first adult deck there and I absolutely love it! Not only do they have decks but beautifully crafted wooden boxes for your deck! It’s tarot reader heaven!
Went in with good intentions, and good spirit. Wind chimes hung from the ceiling and as I passed under one I decided I’d lightly hit the chime with the top of my head and joked that I hadn’t intended, truly a light heart and harmless joke. The owner then pulled me over to tell me that I wasn’t funny and was also a liar when I was simply being a little sarcastic and then demanded I leave his store claiming “I’m trying to run a business.” BAD VIBES! For such a wonderful selection of spiritual gifts I expected someone with a light heart. This man most definitely did not believe in spiritual practice and sells these items as a way to put money in his pocket, nothing more. Truly disappointing.
Gf and I dropped in Gaea while waiting on a table for dinner. Very happy we walked over even though it was pouring rain! Rad selection of t-shirts. Tons of tarot cards and other cool novelties if thats your thing. Only wish there was an online store front because there are a few things I should have grabbed while we were there. Owner was wicked cool, we shared a couple hahas. Will certainly be stopping in when were back in that way.
Biggest selection of Tarot & Oracle cards that I have ever seen in a shop. The owner is a super sweet man that makes me smile each time.I came to write this review because of the owners kindness actually, and was surprised to see negative reviews. Perhaps because he is a little old and no-bs with a little dry humor and can be hard to understand?Anyway... the store is fantastic with things you cant find elsewhere.
Of youre looking for tarot, oracle, or incense this is the place to go in Asheville. Their prices arent inflated and they have a HUGE wall of decks. I have never seen a collection so expansive in my life. The owner was delightful and we had a thoughtful conversation.
I live about an hour’s drive from Asheville and made the trip this past weekend just to visit Gaea for the first time and browse their Tarot and oracle deck offerings. Wow. I was blown away. Hundreds of Tarot and oracle decks to choose from. All mass market decks - I would like to see some indie decks offered, but that doesn’t detract from the awesomeness of it all. The gentleman working (the owner I assume) was very friendly and engaged me in a great conversation about Tarot and oracle reading. I’ll be making the trek to Gaea on the regular from now on instead of ordering online when possible.
The man at the desk kicked me and my girlfriend out because she rang a wind chime as a harmless joke. He said Im trying to run a business, not make jokes, and I can promise you his business is exactly that. This man does not take any of the metaphysical objects he sells seriously, and single handedly made us both extremely anxious for no reason. I hope he reads this :) If anyone reading this has a passion for the metaphysical and asian religions, please go elsewhere for your items. There are plenty of stores willing and able to make your experience so much better than it would be here.
The guy that runs this place is a grumpy, short tempered white dude with a Russian accent. Told my brother to stop looking at the pots, then when we left made a snarky comment. The store is run down and looks like its falling apart, no wonder, hes driving all of his customers away.
One of our favorite shops to stop by when we visit Asheville. Great variety of incense! We love wild berry incense and it is priced just right. Customer service has always been great. My daughter loves checking out the different scents. Would highly recommend.
Ive been shopping at this store for years, and I dont get why people have such negative things to say about the owner. Hes always been incredibly nice and friendly to me. He has to deal with kids shoplifting and clanging the very expensive chimes, so he might get grumpy sometimes. But hes a very kind soul, with a big heart, and his store has the most extensive collection of tarot decks Ive ever seen.
Enjoyed the shop. Largest variety of tarot cards I have seen in one location. Owner was polite and helpful. Largest variety of wind chimes from small to largest Ive seen... Wind chimes that sound like church bells. A must see if visiting Asheville.
Easily the worst customer service Ive ever experienced. Paid $30 for a t-shirt and when I got it home noticed a hole in it right out of the bag. Brought the shirt back to exchange it and instead of a simple and normal exchange, the owner berated me in the middle of the store in an extremely disrespectful and sexist manner. If you choose to go in this store, be sure to inspect your items before leaving. Would not want any other women to have to experience the same treatment.
A wonderful place to visit. Just visited this place during Labor day weekend. The owner was awesomely helpful. Great and amazing tarot cards selection.
Great place, old guy is old.... and pretty fun to talk to. Will go and shop again.
Wouldn’t let a 2 year old use restroom
Bottom line here-Just because a store sells metaphysical items, DOES NOT MEAN THE SELLER IS IN TOUCH WITH THE METAPHYSICAL.PERIOD.Owner ought to be ashamed. He may as well be selling snake oil.
The proprietor is a great guy. I always enjoy seeing him. He has great stores and now short supply of sarcasm, which I think is great. He sells a nice line of essential oils, which includes a much better variety of patchouli oil than I have been able to find elsewhere. Also has a really nice selection of T shirts. Ive seem a good amount of bad reviews. I dont think he deserves such comments. I actually stop in just to say hello when Im in town. Hes that nice.
Just moved to the area about a month ago. My wife and I live a short walk from the store. We went in to visit and the man behind the counter was EXTREMELY rude. I was looking at a t shirt for my sister and wanted to send a picture to her. Soon as I pulled out my phone he YELLED and said “No pictures! Just memorize it for yourself!” Don’t know what happened to make this man such a miserable person. Want to be yelled at? Come here. There’s plenty of amazing stores on the street, this guy isn’t one of them.
Judging by a quick read through previous reviews, it must have been the owner we encountered today - came out of this shop to yell at/swear at my kid because he was standing on a skateboard on the sidewalk. I’m guessing there is a reason he behaves this way so I’m choosing to temper my anger, but it is not at all conducive to operating a business. Get your goods elsewhere, from folks who better embody the energy you would expect from this kind of establishment.
This store was nothing special. It had your usual, run-of-the-mill tacky gifts and shirts. Most of the items in the store were overpriced. The owner was rude and off-putting and didnt even greet us at the door. My friend bought some greeting cards and when she went to check out, he charged her more than the price said on the back. His excuse was, The company changed the price but didnt update it on the cards. Is it too hard to write on a sheet of paper the true price of the cards and tack it up on the stand? It was very sketchy. There are other great stores in the area that want and deserve your business. We will not be back!
What a cool store!! They have the largest selection of Tarot cards I have ever seen anywhere, and the T-shirts are awesome! What makes this place so special isnt the incense, or the best sounding wind chimes Ive ever heard, but the owner. An older gentleman, born in WWII era Europe, he has stories you wont hear anywhere else, an exceptionally erudite mind, and a rye sarcastic sense of humor thatll certainly keep me coming back! A must see!!!
Ive visited this store on a number of occasions. I have had really good experiences here. The owner was nice and cordial to me, even struck up some good conversation about my practice as a healer and intuitive counselor. They have a plethora of items and nice variety of items.
The old man was engaging, knowledgeable, and worldly. His style is a bit rapid fire but never felt rude. Reminds me of a time and a place when shopkeepers did not hide their personalities. The kind you could have a relationship with for life even if it stayed within the confines of their business. A time when we didnt call everyone we knew a friend but a good acquaintance meant something.
The owner is extremely rude and bigoted. Was called names for having a phone in hand and wearing shorts on a hot summer day in his store. Everything is overpriced, things arent labelled properly, and I will absolutely NOT be returning to a place where customers are insulted for the way they dress and simply having cellular devices. Order the same stuff online for half the price.
After trying to take a picture of some beautiful wind chimes in this store, the older gentleman employee asked me to please not take pictures. After I complied and put my phone away, about 2 minutes passed of me quietly perusing to myself until he came back to me and started to accuse me of using his shop to test products to then go home and buy the product off the internet. I tried to explain that I was only interested in the tones of the chimes that the product had printed on its tag, but he only became more accusatory until I had to leave because he had destroyed any chance of me supporting his business. My experience was uneventful until he went out of his way to make me feel like my presence was an insult to his establishment.
Owner was extremely rude to me and my friend today, I had my phone out googling something so I guess he assumed I was taking a picture and yelled at me for it and made us leave after telling him we werent even taking any pictures. He THEN proceeded to mumble a sexist comment about the shorts my friend was wearing as we were leaving. Ive literally never been treating like this in a downtown shop before, never coming back and Im letting all my friends know as well to avoid this place.
The Store is absolutely beautiful, and anything a store of this nature should be....The man working there is most warm, and friendly.....Ill be back when I come to Asheville N.C.
My husband and I are metaphysical professionals who went in the Gaea to introduce ourselves and our work as well are new to Asheville. I was talking to a charming woman at the front desk when this tall, rude, grouchy, grumpy man interrupted me and said negative things about the nature of those in my profession. As we open our own business operations in the area, we will NOT, under any circumstances, send customers his way. In fact, we will deter folks from visiting his place. What a dark corner of the world on Lexington Ave.
I dont know why so many people have rated this store bad. Every time weve been, theyve been nice. No store clerk is going to smile and greet EVERY SINGLE PERSON who goes in the store. They probably have a bunch of people a day since its downtown, and most of them probably do not buy a thing. This store has some really cool things and a TON of tarot and oracle decks. Not to mention, awesome tie dyed clothing.Again, people at grocery stores dont greet and smile every time they have a new customer. Its ridiculous to give them a one star rating because of it.
The individual behind the counter was rude and discriminatory. I will never go back to this store. Much better places in town to buy your incense and greatful dead apparel.
My favorite store in Asheville
Owner doesnt seem to want people in his store... His employee was nice though.
Nice, loved huge selection of chimes, tarot cards, etc
If I could write this review in different languages I would. The man who attends this store is the toughest person I have ever met. I went to buy a shirt to this place with my 4 year old son. When my son was seeing the ornaments, this man told him in a very rude tone that he should not touch them even though I was telling my son not to. This man continued with a series of rude comments to my son who was no longer touching anything. I will not return to this place or recommend it to my friends or family.
