This was a super cool spot to pop in and get a quick set of groceries before heading home. We were in from out of town and decided to grab dinner items. I love the idea of a home for dented cans and less than desirable packages that big box stores typically throw away. I’m the type of person that would totally buy the dented can as there isn’t anything wrong with the product inside. I love the idea of being more eco friendly. Our items were fresh and made an amazing meal this evening. I think this would be an awesome stop to visit when you’re on your way to a backpacking trip. They had some of the coolest and best dried goods.

This is the best kept secret grocery store in Asheville (& Black Mountain, too) if you are looking for inexpensive/discounted, healthy, organic food.Hopeys has the best prices. I often find myself going into the store planning on buying just a few items and end up leaving with a cart load. Keep an eye on expiration dates sure, but Ive never had that issue here.Their beer and wine selection is absolutely phenomenal. Who doesnt like discount boozy beverages?Ive also found some rare plants here (such as these string of pearls pictured-$6 if I remember correctly) that are a fraction of the cost of what I would pay elsewhere.They carry a lot of items that are difficult to find anywhere else, and I appreciate that Im able to try new products that Im curious about without having to pay full price as I would in such grocery stores as Whole Foods or Earth Fare.Most of the staff is friendly and helpful.Overall, Hopeys is a gem and if youre as frugal as I am and love healthy food, you wont be disappointed!

Do I wish there was a Hopeys in Savannah where I live now? Every day. One of Ashevilles food treasures, I miss perusing its shelves for unbelievable deals and just great food. A true reflection of the Asheville spirit. And there are other things I should say Im grateful for but I wont go into detail. Lets just say when I was broke they fed me.

Went to this business, and it is not open. I contacted the staff about the website, which says this location is open. It does not open until later this year. Female staff is rude. Will not be paying for groceries from here. Prices dont seem low.

This is the best discount grocery store Ive ever shopped at. You never know exactly what will be in stock, so dont get attached to a favorite item, but every time I go I always find something special that is easily triple the price somewhere like whole foods. Theres always great gf choices, the frozen section is a treasure trove, and I will literally never buy chips anywhere else ever again! Of course, you want to check exp dates, but ultimately, youll find some great stuff here. It also feels very safe, they are strict about mask protocol. (Bring your own bags recommend)

We live close by and come to Hopey often. In all honesty, the quality/selection of vegetables and fruits can vary wildly. But ever since Shawn has been working in the butcher section, the meat section is consistently excellent. There isnt the variety that a huge chain store can offer (not that what they offer is worthwhile), but the cuts have been very high quality.Overall, this is a great market that represents the spirit Asheville very well.

Hopey’s is the bomb. Incredibly low prices for delicious vegan foods. The have a bit of everything, and a lot of it is healthy and unique. Definitely the most Asheville grocery store in Asheville.

Generally good prices. You have to know your items as some things like frozen fruit are way overpriced. Vegan/vegetarian items can be found and healthy Bobs Red Mill grains as well at reasonable prices. Interesting finds all the time.

Funky food finds and great deals all around. Cafe offers some tasty food and check out the weekly events taking place along with daily food drink specials

Always a bunch of great items. They had nice NY strips today and usually have a nice selection of oral and semi-craft beer.

Hopey is a little shopping adventure. I cant always get everything I want. But I always find the most unexpected treats and deals. If you need to stock up on hiking food, this is a great place to visit.

Have been a fan for 10+ years, since my college days back in Montreat/Black Mountain. You never know what you’ll find! 85% of the time you’ll be paying a little less for stuff. 5% a little more. But that 10% of the time you find your FAVORITE (insert gluten free bagel at 1/3 price here, etc.) ITEM on the shelf and you buy em all up and save a bundle... THAT is what makes this place worth it to me to keep coming back to. Also the spice aisle is way reasonable.

Been shopping here fo almost two years. Great deals, although prices seem to keep going up for a discount store, most of the time. Good selection. The wine and beer section is great as well. Restrooms are usually clean even with high traffic.

This place is amazing! If youve never been you need to go. Seriously. I cant imagine being able to by quality healthy food at such discounted prices. Im a college kid paying for my own school and this place allows me to maintain a healthy and diverse diet while paying less than I would be eating rice and beans from Walmart. I literally started giggling the first time I shopped here. On top of all of these amazing things the employees are all personable and kind people that have never fallen short of above and beyond in terms of service and small talk. I LOVE this place! They have organic and non-gmo food that you would usually find in whole foods for a fraction of the cost. My groccery bill has cut in half since I began shopping here, no exaggeration. They also have makeup, alcohol, local products, and fresh produce. Give it a shot if you havent been here!

I loved this place for first experience. I truly want to rate it higher, but the beef jerky items I bought were out of date and tasted horrible. I should have checked dates before purchasing. Perhaps this is why they can provide discounts. The deli is great though, and the girl working provides awesome service and smoothies/food.

Hopey is a really unique grocery store plus the restaurant and bar is really a special place. It is a fun place to have a glass of wine or if you prefer beer, they have a large selection of local brews. The food is delicious. Try out their pizza, hamburgers and appetizers. They also offer several forms of entertainment. I highly recommend stopping by to check out both the grocery store and the restaurant/bar.

Im there every week stocking up on ingredients I could otherwise not afford. Even my 16 yr old loves this location. I only wish there was one more handicap accessible parking spot.

Great place to pick up items to make dinner that night! Huge snack selection too. Such a variety...a thrift store of food! Many Organic options. Produce also available! They have a bar in the back and a large wine selection too. They supply boxes if you forgot your bag. Some food is about to expire so always double check. Cant beat the prices.

We loved the discount groceries and dinner for two for $20. The pizza was excellent, not skimpy, and plenty for the two of us. The beer and wine were good and we loved the Friday discount. Everyone was friendly. Overall, a great experience and well be back.

Great neighborhood thrift store. Be sure to check the dates on anything that could be sensitive to expiration. The stock changes constantly, so dont expect to find something you saw last month. Decent beer selection.

The selection of food products that are natural and organic is large. However, I have never felt more isolated when walking into a store or talking to the associates. They never said hello or asked if I needed any help. They were honestly afraid to make eye contact with me. A smile goes a long way when trying to make your store feel welcoming and enjoyable to your patrons.

I like the Black Mountain location more but I have noticed that there are a few items you can find here more easily than the other store. Such as a larger inventory of snacks, better cereal selection and the milk as well as the hummus the local black bean which is difficult to get at the other store. Overall nice layout, I do like the layout of the chese and meat departments.

Nice store! Since this is a discounted grocer, be sure to check expiration dates. The staff were super nice and they have a nice selection considering much of it is fluctuating. They have mostly a healthy /natural selection and also have a nice alcohol selection. Theres even an area with sandwiches, juice, coffee, and smoothies. Theyre also expanding to have a pizza oven, tap room, and other areas.

Random selection of items past their best by date. Decent prices, but buyer beware. Items are often moldy or turned. Good organic gourmet and gluten free selections for bottom dollar. I go here every week

Now that theyre downtown Hopey is more expensive than ever. I miss the place on Swannanoa River Road where the rent was cheaper and you could find really good buys that help you meet your needs for the month. I still question the quality of the meats and Frozen items. Ive been burned a few times on those. Ive made the decision not to go back to diwntown after discussing the price of meat with the manager and him having very little knowledge about why it was priced so. He seemed to have little inclination to resolve that for me....just wanted me to get out of there.

I really need to shop here more regularly. Some great deals. Just check the sell by dates.

Interesting place... Very Asheville.. friendly staff... Some really good bargains but you need to be careful about the expiration date on some items. Nice place also for coffee and a snack. Parking can be difficult but not on the weekends.

Im so happy that Hopey exists, but they bring up an unfortunate situation: they make me cringe at the fact that something similar to them doesnt exist in my hometown of Milwaukee, WI! This is one of my first stops every time I visit Asheville. They have great organic options as far as their own trail mix, sesame seed stix, granola, etc. My favorite is their Blueberry muffin mix of blueberry sesame seed sticks, dried blueberries, and yogurt covered cranberries. They have a great selection of necessities at very reasonable prices. Every thing I have purchased here has been fresh and delicious. The employees always make me feel like a local Ashevillain myself. I just wish we had one of these in Chattanooga, TN or that I could order their dry goods online!

Expensive location with few fresh choices and poor bakery products

If you see it and want it get it for it might not be there tomorrow. Great prices on cold cuts. Be early for chicken, pork and beef, with their prices it moves quickly.

Great local grocery store! This location has been recently remodeled, and includes a cafe where you can get coffee and sandwiches, with a bar and additional seating area. They offer artisan cheeses, fresh produce, a bakery, beer, wine, and lots of discount food items. The only downside with the discount items is their selection constantly changes, and can be hit or miss if youre looking for a specific product.

The staff help me find exactly what I was looking for, they had it, I just missed it. Service with a smile is worth my patronizing investment. Please place a map of your secret parking lot on the front door, I had to accomplish a speedy three point turn to secure a space during the rush hour.

This is an interesting experience. Loads of stuff at rock-bottom prices (some of which is past its date, but so what?), some stuff seriously OVERpriced, some of which youve heard of, and some of which you havent.I dont know that you could do a full grocery shop here unless you were really flexible with your list, but if you just need a couple of quick things, its a convenient place to have around.The coffee and deli are both great :)

An inexpensive grocery shop. It carries the very basics all the time -- milk, bread, toilet paper, but its real charm is its usual items. Its is also a scratch and dent for organic or health food type grocery. One never knows what will be available.
