Good people, offering helpful advice when asked. The instructors take the time necessary to ensure youre knowledgeable and proficient in task as they take you throughout the course work. Grab a class with Eric and/or Dave. Youll be happy you did when you encounter how well these two work. Also shout out to Dive Master Darren. Thanks for being there when the assist was needed. You fellas rock!
Recently did my PADI Open Water Cert here and had a really great experience! My instructor, Bruce, was amazing and I’m so glad I chose his class. He was very knowledgeable, encouraging and made everyone feel comfortable. I will definitely be back to take the Advanced course. The only con is that the chlorine in the pool for skills training completely bleached my favorite swim top, so definitely don’t wear nice/expensive clothing into the pool. Our dive masters for the check-out dives, Anneka and Adam, were also friendly and helpful! Thanks so much to everyone for a great course :)
Very good for thier schools David, Melissa, and lin are amazing instructors. Will definitely go get my advance from yalls
My wife and I just completed our Open Water Certification with Robie and Tony. They were both awesome! I enjoyed it so much I scheduled Advanced Open Water and Enriched Air Nitrox certifications with Robie right away. Looking forward to continue advancing in Scuba and diving around the world!
Just finished the open water course with Scott. I had a harder time with some of the skills and Scott and the divemaster spent extra time with me in the pool to make sure I felt comfortable with everything before we got to the lake. The shop also loaned me a neoprene shirt when I told them I got cold in the pool. The owner literally gave me two to try on and ripped the sales tag off of the one that fit and said to bring it back when I was done with it. The experience we had made me feel super comfortable going at a pace that felt right for me, even if that was a bit slower than the rest of the class.
I took an open water course here! My instructor Eric was a fantastic instructor! I couldnt have asked for a better match. I couldnt speak more highly about Eric. However, as someone who was BRAND NEW to diving, the other staff (including the owner) at the shop were WAY TOO PUSHY. Every time I went in there I was pressured and badgered to buy more gear from them, and to sign up and pay for more courses. This kinda spooked me. And I was already overwhelmed by the material I was learning. To then be bombarded by pushy/aggressive sales stressed me way out. Not chill yo.Then I found a really good deal online for a full set up from someone on a local dive forumn who had suffered an aortic malfunction and could no longer dive. His computer alone was a $900 piece of equipment and he had used his gear.. twice. He wanted $600 FOR EVERYTHING and this guy had PREMIUM GEAR.When the owner asked me about buying more gear more the 15th time I told her about the equipment I had found. She became REALLY defensive and exclaimed, Well none of that gear is going to be warrantied so if it breaks youll just be stuck with it!Later when trying on a wetsuit she was dismissive and didnt tell me how to put it on.I put it on backwards and it was WAY too small.I had to walk through the shop to find her because she kept vanishing. BARELY ABLE TO WALK and wearing my Ill fitting wetsuit improperly. She then sorta laughed/scoffed at me when I said it was too small.Trust me thats the right size Ive been doing this awhile.(CAN YOU SAY EGO???)This went on until finally she got me the right size.Good Lord I hope she reads this and reflects on her dismissive aggressive less than friendly EGOTISTICAL behavior. And doesnt just scoff at it in narcissistic defense like when I was trying to get the right wetsuit. Having never done anything remotely close to this. :(This made me feel stupid and unwelcome and like I didnt fit in. (No pun intended)In a way it felt culty.Had they been chill and nice and welcoming to me as a new diver I probably would have purchased ALL my gear from them FOREVER!I ended up getting some great gear and dove in one of the most beautiful places Ive ever been! But not from them.NOT HOW YOU GET LOYAL CUSTOMERS WHEN TRYING TO SURVIVE A PANDEMIC.
If you are looking for ANYTHING related to SCUBA diving, Scubaland is where you need to go. I have been a loyal customer for over five years, and cant imagine going anywhere else. I just completed my rescue diving course with Bruce McNeill as our instructor and was somehow even more impressed as I had an amazing time with an incredible instructor. He was...wow, just wow. What a guy!!! My class was really fun (I had a great time!!!) but more importantly it was taught extremely well. I learned so much, and became a much better diver. Thanks to Bruce, Im now more confident in my abilities which was a struggle for me prior to his class. TRAVEL is also FANTASTIC!!! I have been on several trips and EVERY TIME has been WONDERFUL!!!! They make sure that the trip is as perfect as one could be. You never worry about anything. They take care of it all!! Even if they think you could be diving at a better site! They talk to the captain and off you go!! And lastly, after just spending over $800 in a ton of equipment, I can promise you that you need to GET YOUR GEAR HERE!!!! Not only do they work with you individually to make certain you are getting the perfect gear for you, but they also HAVE GREAT DEALS and youll know youre getting the best equipment for your money. I cannot be more happy with Scubaland. Every single person Ive shopped with, learned from, and dived with are... theyre just so wonderful. SCUBALAND IS THE BEST DIVE SHOP EVER!!!!!!!!!! Just try them, youll see. 😊😊😊😊
Took the Open Water Course and had a great time! Matt was a great instructor - everyone was really helpful and made my first dives exciting. Fully plan on taking the advanced class with Scubaland and sticking with them as as my new hobby grows!
Great place greeted with a smile. Unfortunately they didnt have exactly what I needed but they quickly offered to order it in for me.
Steve neusanger was not a good instructor, exhibiting favoritism to star students with stronger background in scuba. He did not wait for me to go at the pace in which my ears adjust. The course was a rip-off and I was not given my open water cert. Waste of time. However, Alex Price was patient and helpful. Steve did not take the time to help everyone. Do not waste your money here
Knowledgable and professional staff. Great prices on Nitrox.
Got my open water diver certification done here with Scott and Alex who are both super awesome instructors and super cool. Learned a lot from them and it was super fun. Ive also met and talked to Victor who sold me some items and he was also super cool and really helpful. The prices at the store are a little pricey but I dont mind it too much since I can talk to someone right there while I try it on which is helpful.
One of my two favorite dive shops in town. They are well stocked and friendly, with a good instructional staff. They carry my preferred brand of regulators, so Im in here at least once or twice a year getting the annual service on our gear. Id rate them 5 stars except they messed up on last years annual service and returned one of my regulators in a less-than-great state.
Great School. I had Bruce and Steve as my instructors so far. Both extremely helpful and knowledgeable! Im working on my Rescue Dive certs now and plan on continuing to dive with them for all my other certsHighly Recommend
Walked in to buy weights. Told me $5.50 per lb (Toms is $4.25). They start asking for lots of personal info. I tell them I just want to pay cash. They rang up the weights at almost $8.00 per lb. Just under $50 for 6lbs!! I walked out.
Before a trip to Bonaire, I took my gear in for a service; second time with this shop. The work was completed in a timely manner, as before. On 1st dive, I heard the hiss of bubbles. Back on shore I confirmed a pinhole leak in the high pressures hose.I assumed the shops regulator service would involve testing the equipment in water. This would have signaled the need for a new high pressure hose. I reviewed their web sites Regulator Service section and it does not mention submerging equipment. I believe this should be part of the regulator service. Also, the configuration of the hoses that I received was different than the configuration I gave to them.I wrote an email to the shop. They called and said, bring it in, well take care of it. I informed them I would be replacing the hose myself and need confidence in my gear and will find another provider to service my equipment.
I had a great experience getting my Scuba certification at Scubaland. My instructor Robert made it a fun and enjoyable experience, and did an excellent job of teaching the valuable course techniques. The rest of the staff was very helpful as well in getting me the gear I needed and assisting me during my checkout dives.
Great customer service, great training, and great selection of dive gear.
They are a bit expensive, service was pretty good
Pros:Great staff, always helpfulGood pricesTeam was very flexible with rescheduling when our dives got rained outCons:As with any shop they only carry certain brandsNo refunds, only store credit
UPDATE: I have removed one star from my original rating in response to the owners reply to my review, which slights me by suggesting that I could not tell the difference between an employee and a customer (I suppose it could be possible that a customer would move behind the counter and start casually speaking with the employee who had just been helping me, but something deep down in my gut tells me that was not the case). Furthermore, the assertion that their return policy is generous is (again) absurd. I would invite anyone reading this to go to the website for Toms Dive & Swim (which is about a mile away from Scubaland incidentally) and look under the Customer Service link found at the bottom of the page where you will find their return policy, which states: you can return your order for a *full refund*; no mention of a restocking fee; and 30 day return period. You dont have to be James Comey to know that these people are some shady operators. The return policy is absurd: 15 days, 15% restocking fee (who even does this these days? particularly when almost nothing in the store would require repackaging), and then only for store credit (which, given the selection of gear available, is just crazy - what is this, communist Russia??).Would have given 4-stars if it werent for the return policy: service was mediocre; the sales guy was helpful, albeit not the friendliest of people (he seemed annoyed when I said I didnt want to buy either of the two 3 mm wetsuits options they had available after trying them on and then as soon as he ran my credit card he essentially just ignored me and started talking to another employee; I just stood there for a moment wondering if he needed anything else from me - I guess Im just used to people saying something along the lines of thanks for coming in or maybe have a good day after I drop almost $1,000 on gear in their shop).Ill definitely be sourcing any future Scubapro/Zeagle/Bare gear Im in the market for from online retailers.
We just finished Open Water, Advanced, and Rescue classes with Jez Sherlock at Scubaland and it was a wonderful experience. Jez is very thorough and adds personality and a great laugh to the class. Recommended!
Great selection and prices and will be back for sure. Awesome customer service
Beware: they do not accept returns! Best you can get is store credit. Yes, there is a sign on the wall that theyll reference when youre attempting to get a refund, but if you miss it, it could be costly. Just buy it off Amazon. The instructors are great, and I had a great experience getting Open Water, Advanced Open Water, and Nitrox through them. Definitely do with Aquarena Springs for your checkout dives!
I completed the open water course on 10/8/17 and I can’t imagine having gone anywhere else. Michael Lutz was my instructor. Not only was he very experienced and knowledgeable (18 years diving in multiple underwater landscapes), but he was also patient and happy to provide further clarification. After the course was over he sought to help me find the best gear that works for me and has continued to provide support in ensuring I am comfortable with my diving abilities. His expertise and teaching style made the course enjoyable, friendly, and efficient. Likely due to the fact that it was a fall course, I was one of only two students. This allowed for more one-on-one training and greater oversight for needed correction. While Scubaland can be over-priced on some gear, their prices are matched to online options for most brand BCDs, wetsuits, etc. Furthermore, they do provide financing options. The guys are pleasant to chat with and they are also easy-going. It generally took me a few trips to the store before I was able to determine what gear I wanted to purchase, and they were always patient and understanding. They have a travel office where you can seek advice and book diving excursions, as well as inquire about group dives (both local and vacation). If you are looking to take the open water course, I highly suggest Scubaland. Ask for Michael Lutz for any course you wish to take, as he offers the open water course and several advanced and specialty courses.
Great service, friendly staff
Great shop and wonderful instructors
Scubaland is awesome. My wife and I have both taken our OW, AOW, and nitrox class here and our experience has been absolutely awesome. Our instructor James is beyond extremely knowledgable and we were comfortable in the water in no time. You cant go wrong at Scubaland.
Got my padi open water done here. Intructor were great the actual shop employees can be a little snoody. Ill probably buy my first gear from toms
This place is an awesome facility to do your Open Water Certification or a refresher course! The facility has a deep pool to do all your exercises and checkout skills with full equipment rental.I did my scuba refresher course here with a Groupon for $35 (I believe the reg price is $70) and it was fantastic! The facility is clean and our instructor was very patient and knowledgeable. You get your moneys worth in the 4-hr refresher course as well as full on workout! They also have a scuba club where you can go on different dive trips with your fellow Austin divers. If you are an active diver or looking to become one this is the place to go in ATX!#12DaysofChristmasATX
Found this outlet on the Internet. I am an instructor and wanted to rent some equipment for my students clisevto lake Travis. The price that was quoted on the Internet was very competitive, so I called them to enquire to pre book the equipment. They informed me it was not required. I rented the equipment, and found I was charged nearly double what they had quoted on the Internet. Their reply was this is not our internet account when clearly the location address and logo was. They refused bro honor their advertised prices. This is a bait and switch company beware.
This place has some of the worst customer service. Every member of the shop staff has an attitude problem, its no wonder they used to have three location in Austin and are down to one. I keep wondering when this last store will shut its doors so we can get another Scubapro dealer in the Austin area.
If you want to pay too much for your dive specialty courses, this is the place for you. They want $225 + book to take a course you can get a Dive World for $150 book included.
Hours:Monday thru Friday 10:00 - 7:00pmSaturday 10:00 - 5:00pmSunday closed
