Last time Ive been here was maybe 2 years ago before covid. I was then The Chairperson to my daughters headstart. So me and some of the policy representatives would stop here and have breakfast/lunch maybe 2 or 3 times a week. Now that covid is semi over and schools are back in session. While dropping my daughter of to My Royal. I think of all the amazing memories Ive had here. However in the morning it never looks as if anyone is there or planning on opening the shop. That was until last night while trick or treating.I notice two young ladies emerging from the shop as if they were closing. Which made me so happy to see a live person there. So we stopped I decided to inquire about their business hours. I ask the one young lady who was closer to the door. I said Hello, What time do you open? Then young lady pointed to the closed sign. As if I couldnt see that, I mean the lights were off. I said you know what nevermind and walked away. I thought that was rather Rude. I will not patronize this business again.I honestly believe customers service workers should be more hospitable. If you are unable to answer simple questions such as business hours. Maybe this isnt the job for you.Lets also take it a little further what if I couldnt Read?? Does this change the dynamic of the situation? People should keep in mind tharlt everyone is not like themselves what maybe a simple solution for you is not simple for others.
Simple lunch fare, prepared with attention to detail that taste wonderful IMHO. Popped in to meet a friend for lunch. Tiny place, immaculately clean considering the kitchen is in front of you. Wonderfully flavored sandwiches! Most of their business appears to be internet-based take-out. I will return next time Im in the MICA area.
It isn’t the same. I always ordered the same thing prior to whatever changes were made. The food wasn’t nasty but it was not what I wanted. Super sad about that….
I just decided to get a simple meal of soda and their chilaquiles (red salsa and chicken) for lunch.WHEN I TELL YOU THAT THESE CHILAQUILES WILL BE MY DEATHBED MEAL, THEY WILL BE MY DEATHBED MEAL. THEY ARE THAT GOOD.
New menu, still solid. possibly even better.
Had the pleasure of visiting my amazing Daughter at her College during a beautiful Autumn Weekend in Baltimore! After she gave me the tour of the MICA campus, she insisted that I join her for a Coffee/Tea at her favorite lunch spot On The Hill! I found the Café to be very charming and absolutely loved my coffee. The staff was very nice and engaging. They have many delicious specialty Teas & hot drinks as well as sandwiches, burritos & burgers on the menu. They even have Rice & Beans and fantastic Plantains! Stop by, sit inside or grab a sidewalk table, order away and enjoy!
Oh my the burrito I got was to die for. Excellent food selection. I love that this is a farm to table restaurant. I see some negative reviews about the staff which definitely wasnt my experience. I will be back soon to try more and will update my review if my experience is vastly different. At the very least it is a really cute cafe, clearly popular since you have to fight for a table and the food is delicious!
Actually we werent impressed at all. I got an americano which just tasted like regular coffee instead of a shot of espresso with water. My wifes coffee was supposed to have dairy free creamer but we suspect it had dairy. The egg n cheese bagel was good. But we wanted a nice place to run get coffees and this will not be that place.
I have been getting take out from cafe on the hill for the past two years and the burgers have been a great deal for the amount of food you get. I was very sad to see them closed when COVID started. I was so excited that they have opened again but was leery of a new menu. However, the new food items are delicious! Love the burgers (smaller but still good value). I had spiral cut fries which were some of the best fries I have had in quite a while! The plantains are great too. Our most recent order had hot and crispy regular fries (very delicious) but we did miss the spirals.
Amazing food.
Awesome breakfast burrito (had plant based chorizo). Super friendly staff. Very nice neighborhood. Will be back.
The food is really good but one day (it was 6 months ago) i was there with some friends and i went to the bathroom and when i came back, there was a roach in my yuca fries! The people who worked there said they were sorry and they tried to give us more free yuca fries but we said no thank you. i still eat On the hill because there food is the best but just watch out!!
On the Hill Cafe is the real deal... clearly! As one of their many return customers, I feel compelled to share that I find their food delicious, menu inspired, service friendly and ambience peaceful. It is a rare moment when you are successfully tempted to order multiple items and smile due to the absence of buyers remorse! Carry on, please.
I love these finds! This place is amazing! Small breakfast shop with excellent food and service. Bathrooms clean and ambiance cozy. Definitely worth checking out!
Usually love OTH and always get their burgers. Was excited to hear that they re-opened a few days ago. But honestly, the food was disappointing. The burger was overcooked and dry, also weirdly the buns were very squished down. Fries were limp too. Not anywhere close to being as good as before unfortunately. Not really worth it.
Ordered the lox on a bagel for pickup. The lox & other ingredients inside seemed fresh and of good quality. But the main issue was the bagel (which for a bagel with lox & cream cheese is a large part of the order) - the bagel was small, as though it was purchased from a store but, more importantly, it was either frozen and never properly warmed up or it was beyond stale because the bagel was like 2 hockey pucks. They were near inedible. I took one bite and had to transfer all of the inside ingredients to some bread I had on hand, it was so bad. $10 for a sandwich in which I had to reconstruct/replace the bagel. All in all, I would skip the bagel or anything that comes with a bagel.Reply to the response from the owner: If the quality that I received was what you can provide, I would highly suggest taking it off the menu entirely, or reducing your prices to compensate.
Best coffee in Baltimore! Their lattes are so good that I don’t even need to add sugar. Amazing sandwiches, burgers. A warm and welcoming spot!
On the hill cafe has the best fries, hands down! The service is good and although many times I wasnt allowed inside because Im a minor, I would definitely figure out a new way to go.
I’ve popped in for a few orders, positively ecstatic about cafe salads, too, quesadilla menu item. Prefer take away albeit it is rather quaint for a read or cheeky chats. Carry on, OHT Bolton.
Pretty good coffee in a too-small shop with a design that accentuates the crowding. Some food available, though its tough to enjoy a meal with people hovering for a seat or just to stay in line to order. Note: Good bagels run out early as a rule. Not many reasonable options in the area for a quick cup or to chat with someone, so it likely will remain popular. The workers are brisk and efficient. Give them a tip.
Such a wonderful corner cafe. Fantastic food, excellent coffee beverages, and pastries to die for. Can often be overrun with art students, but ignore their hippy-like disposition and grab a table outside.
Excellent food...pleasant atmosphere.Staff very nice & very helpful. L___aka Tuna melt was everything!! 😊 (Roc A.)
On the Hill Cafe stands out for its consistent product. Unlike most places, they use grass fed beef, this sets them apart from any burger joint in the area. They always have fresh baked goods and quick service.
The best, any time of the day. A diverse menu and a friendly staff.
This spot obviously knows how to satisfy their customers. Constantly with a very kind demeanor. The food is conveniently priced, always delightful and clean.
This place is a real jewel in Baltimore City. I was sharing a quesadilla with a coworker from this restaurant previously. So I decided that on my lunch break to drop in myself. I had a turkey burger and some fries. The toppings were so fresh and the portion size was huge. I really like the fact that they are environmentally conscious and recycle. In a few block radius there arent that many food choices in this area but this is a real treat. I will continue to visit this establishment.
Tamale cakes. I come from NYC to visit friends once a year and I make sure to go here at least twice a trip for tamale cakes. Theyre amazing. Ive tried other menu items and are great as well...but those tamale cakes....
TLDR: Wait time incredibly long for cafe sandwich, and sandwich not very good.Wait time for a simple sandwich was 30 mins. There were 3 employees working: 1 cooking, and the other two mostly standing around occasionally taking orders. Considering the wait times, that is backwards.By the time i was given my food, the yucca fries were soggy. The sandwich had a way too much lettuce, and the thinnest slice of cheese imaginable. The bread was not even toasted.
Lunch can end up being a bit pricey, however the food is often delicious, and the cafe has a good neighborhood vibe. Yesterday I tried the special fried plantains with pork sandwich and it was excellent. Coffee is usually good but a bit overpriced for pour yourself from the self serve carafe. They can get very busy and packed at peak times, in which case it can be a gamble, Ive had my order reshuffled several times and ended up waiting 20+ minutes. However the style and the comfortable feel to me keeps me coming back when its not busy.
Great burgers, nice service staff, and cool decor (its in a old rowhouse of sorts). On the downside, seating is tight, so you might have to hover a little bit to snag a seat from a brooding art student. Great neighborhood spot!
This was not an easy find but personally, people should be flocking to this corner store. the cafe is not the biggest but flavor-wise and selection is perfection. they have options for all vegans, meat-eaters, health enthusiasts, and the sweet tooth. The cafe even has some ethnic dishes that I didnt expect to find. This is a place you should out on your radar for some spectacular lunch.
Good food and coffee! And good vegan options!!
One of my favourite cafes, simply wonderful and excellent service. Look forward to coming back.
This is a great indie coffee shop. In addition to the standard pastries that you would expect, they are a full restaurant with burgers and other hot food choices. I stop by whenever I am in the neighborhood.
We randomly stopped by this place after dropping off my rental car. This was closer than Zekes, but we really liked it! Very quaint, local feel. Good sandwiches!
Their food is pretty good most of the time, but it typically feels like youre taking a gamble on the quality depending on who is there that day. Also, every time I have ordered cheese (and extra cheese) they have given me NO cheese. They have gotten my order wrong about six times. Oh, and good luck calling them because nobody picks up the phone. :) Overall expensive for quality and the service is terrible.
Great location, excellent place for MICA students on their way to class or for meeting up, etc. Lost a star because the food is getting increasingly expensive for less quantity. Fewer and fewer people can afford to go here as much as Im sure theyd like to, but it is a treat to come in and get their Smokey Burger, Rutter Burrito or Tamale Cakes once in a while (my favorites, I recommend!).
If you want to support your local business, this is the place to go. The burgers are REALLY GOOD and the pork sandwich, the Mosher, is comparable to a pork sandwich youd get in Philly. Prices are just a bit high but its in a nice neighborhood so what can you expect.
This is such a cute and quaint cafe near the church we go to in the city. The menu is written with chalk on the board and we got a salad which was good. Im sure the other items on their menu are great.
Excellent little cafe with very good service. Good food, good coffee. Not a lot of tables, so seating can be in short supply.
This place is hands down for me myself the best bacon cheese burger
Great place to eat and just chill with friends. Their burgers are noteworthy. A little pricey. Its about a $$ on the price scale. Worth a visit. Enjoy
Good coffee and food as well, and a very cosy place.
Wide variety of espresso drinks. Healthy and hearty foods. Order at counter or call it in. Not a lot of indoor seating, but outdoor tables in good weather. Close to MICA.
Delicious breakfast sandwiches with gluten free options. Bacon was meaty and cooked to perfection. Even though it was busy on a Saturday morning, we waited less than five minutes for our order. Great for takeout which is wrapped in foil and paper bags rather than styrofoam and plastic, YAY!
Coffee is ok. Food is greatl!
They wouldve received 5 stars, except their specialty coffee machine was broken. That being said, their regular coffee was exceptional, customer service was great, ambiance was everything I look for in a true coffee drinkers local cafe. Prices were reasonable.
Small, crowded, we had to sit outside when we visited but the weather was pleasant and we enjoyed being outside. Nice variety of food, I had a vegetarian burrito which was excellent.
I just moved near this place and make a ritual of skating over for an iced Americano and sometimes a snack. The staff are very friendly towards me and I feel a progressive vibe here. Its great to have a place to unwind after work for an hour with a good book.
Came at lunch hour. Place was packed. Gotta tuna melt. Pretty good, but the fries were weak. Limp, not thick, and dried out. Try to come before or after lunch.
Great little cafe. Eclectic food choices. Vegetarian options. Delicious deserts. Charming indoor and outdoor areas.
On the outside it is very cute coffee shop and it had amazing reviews so I decided to try it on my travels. Unfortunately the moment I walked in, the cashier/server was not friendly at all. He also left out options I could have with my order. A bit snobby. The coffee and bagel was ehh...and it had greasy butter on it instead of serving it on the side. Overall, the coffee shop and its staff just had an unwelcoming energy I felt and will not be going back. Will go back to Babys on Fire..lovely coffeeshop with amazing inviting energy and great coffee about 5 min away.!!
Awesome little cafe that is sustainably minded and has a great menu. Everything Ive had here has been good. Check it out!

The burgers are very yummy. The latte and paprika fries were good but could have been better. Overall am very pleased.
Oh so delicious! The tamale cakes are wonderful and I got the London fog which was also so good. Layout of the restaurant could be better but theres only so much you can do in a rowhome.Definitely worth the cramp space!
One of the BEST turkey burgers Ive ever had, including home made. Almost impossible to find a real turkey burger (ground turkey meat) and lemonade was delicious.
Food is tasty and there are a lot of options. However, they charge a lot for almost every extra item and rarely include them. If you make a custom order, you will almost certainly be shortchanged.Edit: Lowering to one star. They simply cannot get an order right. Ordering extra cheese and getting none, then being unable to reach them by phone about it was the last straw. I will be ordering elsewhere from now on.
I enjoy everything on the chalk board. Ive had every item they offer and Ive never been disappointed. From burritos to burgers to baked goods, all delicious, appropriately priced!
Best coffeehouse on Bolton Hill. Muffins baked in-house every night. Good food. Competent friendly staff.
My boyfriend and I are eating healthy and we ordered a build your own burger no bun and the farmers salad. The salad is always fresh and the burger is out of this world!!!
Parking sucks and there is very little room inside to actually sit and eat. Once you get past that though the food is really good! If I lived closer I would definitely get food and coffee or tea from here often. The Arepa-cakes are so good!
Long wait for food. Very child unfriendly. Staff unable to check something about the menu related to a dietary restriction. Food delicious when it finally arrived though.
The coffee and service is just right!
The baristas that were there last night were really nice, and talked to us as if we were regulars! Although I didnt necessarily get any coffee or food there, the inflow of customers and the sound of the cars driving by was so soothing and nice.If only I lived closer. Regardless, this place was really nice, and I hope to visit it again.
This place has some of the best food I have ever eaten ever. The service is great, and the food is all fresh! I love it!
Great experience. Nice people and great food!
I usually dont write reviews--ESPECIALLY not negative ones--but Ive been to On The Hill twice and both times, my order has been lost or forgotten. I work literally 400ft from On The Hill, so its not even a five minute walk. The service is so slow and disorganized that my 30 min break isnt enough to order food and get back, let alone eat. So, if youre dead set on ordering from here, Id suggest you call it in beforehand. Not online order. CALL. The first time my order was lost, it was through grubhub. Second time, it was in person, so there was no excuse. Ive watched food sit on the counter for a good 10 min before anyone called it out. And to be honest, the one time I actually waited, re-ordered, and got my food, the burger was dry and definitely not worth the $13 I paid for it. Honestly, unless youre getting a drink, skip it and go somewhere else. Even then, the wait for a drink isnt much better when theres another café right down the street.
Love these guys! Great coffee and a great space, and the food is very reasonable
This is my new favorite place. I go for the lemonade and sometimes I get a bite to eat. I highly recommend the Mosher with a coconut lemonade.
We L♡VE On The Hill Cafe!! Its a neighborhood gem thats become a staple for a Saturday morning breakfast spot! Food is simply prepared, with a good variety. Weve been loyal customers for 5 years now, and we look forward to many more!
Good food, especially the pork. Can get crowded but you can call in your order. Nice neighborhood feel
Delicious sandwiches and good coffee. The Yucca fries were crispy and delicious. The layout is a little wonky, if a line forms the interior gets pretty cramped.
Great food. They need more seating space because it so popular!
The burger I had was really good. The fries would have been better if they had been hot.
I love this little neighborhood cafe! Its small and intimate (read: downside, limited places to sit in busy times, but dont be afraid to ask if you can share a table) and the food is great. For such a little place, I wasnt expecting a full menu but I loooove their breakfast and their sandwiches, especially the Eutaw. Staff is pretty friendly too!
Small joint. Delicious food. In fact the food is perfect! Just a little cramped in there!
The food is fresh and the menu is fantastic, I havent tried anything that I didnt absolutely enjoy. A local favorite, I would go out of my way to get there if I had to, its just that good!
The people on staff were really cool. Food was pretty good, drinks were innovative, but missed my mark.
Was packed for the lunch time, so popular in the neighborhood. Sandwich was hugh!
Great food, kinda small place tho. Alright seating but again the food is great. highly recommend the tamale cakes or quesadilla
This is a great place to go alone or with friends. Tasty food. Awesome doughnuts. Foamy cappuccino.
Lovely place, good fresh food.
Overall great atmosphere, small and cozy with excellent food! Friendly and welcoming staff!!💙
Good overall environment and food. Students and busy adults in neighborhood visit frequently. Been here 3 times so far. Good experience.
Service was not good. Guy at the counter has the wrong personality to work in the service industry. The girl takes incorrect orders and delivers subpar food. Never again. Hey friends, lets do Earth Wood & Fire. Much friendlier and better food.
Friendly and reliable service even when they are busy. The Eutaw Place sandwich is amazing.
Food is always well made! Great variety.
I DONT EVEN WRITE REVIEWS BUT I tried calling before I wrote this....I dont like someone trying to be smart, after I have spend my money never again. So I decided to try this place again because I love supporting local restaurants. However I was very disappointed how can you mess up a burger. Plus Im big on food presentation which is not there. The staff horrible and smart. They cant even hand your drink. I will be posting pics of my food. Very disappointing #onthehill Bolton Hill Baltimore MD!
My boyfriend loves the breakfast burrito, add bacon. I decided to give it a try sans bacon and its pretty good.
Good food, outrageous prices. We patronized OTH for years, but they have become too expensive.
It was relaxing and there was a nice amount of sunlight shining as I drink my peppermint tea.
Small place. Good food. Fair prices.
They have a great burrito bowl (rutter burrito box) and a great selection of burgers. Its an intimate spot, abuzz with college students and has outdoor seating. Espresso is délicieux. Love this spot.
