Champlin Guitars is the place to go for quality used and new guitars, accessories and parts, or any sort of set-up, tune-up, install, or beautification project on most stringed instruments that you may have. Devin keeps a great attitude, a knowledgeable staff and a wide range of guitars to try out. What more could you ask for?
Replacing tuners may not be brain surgery but after seeing the hack jobs on DIY videos, I decided to have it done cleanly and professionally. Glad I did! Devin is a friendly guy who did a fabulous job without leaving a scratch on my Kamaka ukulele. Reasonably priced and quick service. I will be referring him to my musical friends and would definitely use him again on my instruments. Thanks again Devin!
I discovered this gem of the Pacific Northwest while visiting the area and trying to find a parking spot. My guitar developed an acute fret/action problem and I’m actually SO happy she did. Devin is a warm gentleman, professional luthier par excellence and has an amazing shop to explore with guitars of all types, including some that have very affordable prices. My beautiful Martin was brought to a place where she finally plays the way I always thought she should. MAJOR improvement in action, beautifully polished frets and zero evidence of any work being done. If you are ever looking for a guitar/uke or even suspect your instrument needs a little tune up, do yourself a favor and drop in for a visit.
They were able to squeeze me in for a quick repair and were very welcoming! First guitar shop I’ve been to since moving to Bellingham and can’t wait to see what more they have.
My son and I were in Bellingham for a week and stumbled upon the store, much to our delight. On our first visit we were welcomed and blown away by the unique and high quality of instruments. My son was drawn to a 5-string fretless bass, but the vintage acoustic guitars caught my eyes. The staff were friendly and invited us to play the instruments (a bit to my surprise because of the high quality level of the gear). We came back the next day and an acoustic made in 1938 caught my eye. Devin gave me the scoop on it. I went back that night and did my own research too. Everything checked out awesome and I realized they had a very cool guitar I knew I wanted. My son and I went in the next day and bought it. Ive been enjoying it at my home jamming with my son. Devin and his staff are awesome, knowledgeable, friendly, and just fun to talk to. Great experience. When Im in BHam, Ill always stop by.
A lovely, if cozy, guitar shop with a heart bigger than its plot. Perfect for anyone; from the beginner looking to learn, a player in search of new strings, accessories, fine repairs from a thoughtful hand, advice, or even someone solely interested in the pleasure of enjoying a fine selection of choice and vintage instruments with charming hand-lettered signage.Devin Champlin, the proprietor and remarkably kind person, will meet your needs as a musician and provide a refuge where you can always find a warm greeting and something to be inspired by.A true gem of a shop, in all facets.
I am so happy to have found this place! Devin is very friendly and quick to respond. I brought 3 ukuleles in for him to look at and only 2 needed to be set up - to lower the action and help them play to their full potential so I can enjoy them even more. I couldnt be happier. Both of the ukes he set up are easier to play and sound fantastic. He was careful and informative, he let me know exactly what hed be doing and what it would cost. Also, his prices are very affordable and the turn around time was only 2 days for both. I will be back! :)
We are fortunate to have a world-class luthier in Bellingham. It’s scary to leave your priceless antique instrument with someone, but Devin is someone you can really trust. The work (repair of cracked top) was excellent, quick and very reasonable. And I learned a lot from talking to him.
Have had a lot of simple pickup swaps done and Devin takes care of the guitars as if they were his. Great at communication and gets your guitar back to you better than you left it with him. Great store vibe too.
Devin put a bit of spit and polish (figuratively) on a custom banjo of mine that came to me with a few rough edges. He did a great job and the banjo’s playability is much improved. I’ll definitely be back the next time I need some help.
This place is a true gem of Bellingham and the friendliest guitar shop I’ve ever worked with. Owner Devin Champlain does it all; tune-ups, sales, lessons, and stunning, hand-crafted builds with an emphasis on old-time and parlor-size instruments (check out his unbelievable Selmer-Maccaferri inspired customs).I put a huge split in the side of my girlfriend’s Martin 00-15 and I needed it fixed badly. Mr. Champlin was able to fix the split seamlessly (flawless color on the mahogany body), put new strings on, and drop the action almost an 1/8 of an inch! I was stunned by the fair price, quality, and quick turnaround. Where else can you get a luthier with a 2 year waiting list to fix your mistakes - let alone in a matter of weeks? This place reveals the limitation of a 5-star rating system and is a source of local pride.
Gotta give a massive shoutout to Devin at Champlin Guitars for not only repairing my favorite mandolin but ALSO adjusting the fret height so it plays even better than it used to. The shop has a super welcoming vibe, a ton of funky and unique instruments, and if youre lucky you might catch a super groovy slide guitar jam while youre at the register. You can trust Devin with your axe! 10/10 will return to spend more money here!
Devin is the man! Despite being an amicable spirit and generally just a cool fella, he really bailed me out of a bad spot.I had badly broken my upright bass (neck and head snapped). I bought it on the cheap, and its my learner instrument. I needed it fixed on a budget. I asked for a functional fix, he totally pulled through, and it looks kinda cool considering how bad the initial breaks were. Thanks for making it happen, Devin!
I am so grateful to have discovered such a quaint and professional instrument shop in downtown Bellingham. Devin is knowledgeable, kind and a warm welcomer to the whole community. I would highly recommend coming here to purchase instruments, strings, gear and also for excellent instrument repair.
Did excellent repairs on a very old and special mandolin. Repairs were authentic to the time period of the instrument, brought back to life. Friendly and knowledgeable, home boy is skilled at what he does. Wouldnt take instrument anywhere else.
Devin does great work on all kinds of stringed instruments (and he makes a mean waffle). I highly recommend him-- whether you need a custom hand built guitar, a new set up on your fiddle, or just need to get rid of some fret buzz --give him a ring, youll be glad you did. He can do it all.
He really cares about instruments and his customers, anyone that feels the same can trust him and enjoy both as well as outstanding service.
This is a great shop! Ive come here for repairs and set ups and Ive always left happy. Its like an old timey hardware store with a helpful guy in an apron and everything. I ultimately wound up buying one of Champlins hand made guitars, and Im sure glad I did. Im extremely happy with this guitar and so far any tweaks or adjustments that Ive wanted have been made free of charge. Its also where I buy all my strings and picks and whatnots. Highly recommend.
Devin is incredible in craft and kindness. Highly recommend going to him with your repair needs.
