They carry a rare selection of chocolate bars. Fellow chocolate fiends will appreciate this.They also have some other unique items like sandwiche cookies with a cream center. If you can tell, I have a healthy sweet tooth.Aside from that, the produce, as organic as it may be, is a small selection. Which is understandable considering the stores foot print.Friendly team and good customer service are some other positives.But in my opinion this neighborhood grocer is more suited for small grocery hauls, rather than buying a weeks worth of groceries for a family of four or more.But that’s one person’s opinion.Keep in mind the five star review.I still definitely recommend the business.Until the next local discovery, happy and healthy eating.

I love this grocery store, and I go there every 7 to 10 days. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The quality of the produce is better than Berkeley Bowl in my opinion.I am on a gluten free diet, and I had a lot of problems with gluten attacks from the produce and cheese I bought at Berkeley Bowl (see my review for Berkeley Bowl West). I have never had a gluten attack from anything Ive bought at Berkeley Natural Grocery.Highly recommended!

Love this market, great fruit and veg selections. A good selection of cold drinks and dairy products. Even has a small homeopathic section. Everyone is very friendly and helpful. I really appreciate how they handled pandemic protocols. I enjoy supporting this local business.

The store earns high marks for cleanliness and adherence to CDC guidelines for prevention of transmission of Covid 19. HOWEVER...The workers were unhelpful and unpleasant. Nevertheless, I purchased two large containers of peanut butter ground fresh from organic peanuts by an employee. When I got home I discovered the peanuts were rancid and had to compost the lot. (Pity the bacteria & worms who discovered that mess.) I didnt go back to subject myself to the bad treatment for a second round. I recommend you dont go for the first round.

I was new to area, was diagnosed with thyroid condition. Went into store. A man was helpful in the produce section, but the 3 lady cashiers were very rude. One was gossiping about my husband possibly stealing right in front of me & giggling! & the other was very standoffish about questions I had. This was the worst customer service Ive had in a while. (We are half white, half mexican)

First off, I love this store, and the El Cerrito location is amazing as well. The products are wonderful and often, things I wouldnt find at a larger scale store, and its in the neighborhood!Of course, the prices are a tad steep and a turn off, but if you cant appreciate good, organic foods, dont shop here. Its a nice place to shop when youre around this part of town and need to make a quick run.3 stars are for the reasons Ive just listed. Why not 4 or 5 stars? Because I have found that the last several times Ive gone in, Ive either been looked up and down or simply stared at by almost every employee here. I can walk in to a section and know what I want and STILL have someone come up to me in a NOT polite manner. 2 days ago, an employee literally, stared at me as I walked by; no hello or anything. I can honestly say, the only person who was pleasant is Amanda.That being said, the next time this happens to me, I will absolutely say something. Not sure if Im being stared at because Im not an older retired person like many people in the neighborhood, the color of my skin, or simply because I like to browse and take my time in this store. Hoping my next experience will be different.

I’ve been shopping here for decades. I love this place. It is smaller than the sister store in el Cerrito- but it makes up for it in a friendly, organized and well stocked grocery. The produce is consistently fresh and well chosen. Everything is organic. They are responsive if you have a question or a suggestion.Now, how about opening an hour early for seniors and the health compromised crowd during the shut down?

Walked in & was looking for a specific item. The white lady there acted like she saw a ghost when I asked her about it. Got my answer and browsed around. My brother stood at the front waiting for me and I saw something else I was interested in. While waiting, another white store associate saw him and looked at him strange too. I asked the crazy girl another question and she acted like she didnt even want to help me. We went right down the street to whole foods and spent our money there where we were treated with respect. I WILL NEVER GO TO THIS RACIST STORE AGAIN!

What a great place! Great customer service, great people, and so much better than Whole Foods. Though WF is closer, no one likes the snobbery attitude.Makes me wish I actually bought something and not just turned in an application. Oh well, due to how close this place is to where I reside, its great to have that option!

Excellent neighborhood grocery store with amazing and helpful staff. Every product has been vetted so I can feel good about what I am buying without having to research every label myself. I do 99% of my familys grocery shopping at this small, convenient store. Tip: If they do not have something that you want, especially meat cuts, they can usually have it sent over from their El Cerrito location by the next day. Quick in and out due to small size is a plus!

The quintessential Berkeley health food store, carrying local and regional foods, cleaning gods, skin care, and herbs, with a rocking bulk food section Including bulk honey and bulk peanut butter. Of special note is their dairy and cheese section, with raw, non homogenized, and organic options galore. Great store!

This is my go-to store for bulk goods. They will give you a tare weight on your own containers gladly, and have no problem ringing up your purchases at the end. The store has other things too, like packaged food, dairy and frozen meat, but that is pretty expensive so I stick to the bulk. I do get vitamins for the kids from the health section, though.

Good selection of foods in bulk bins and milk and other beverages in returnable glass bottles. Weird, though, that there was no arborio rice in the bulk section. We went there to pick up a Lotus stainless steel rice cooker after calling first to make sure they had it in stock. The assistant manager was super helpful and friendly.

Ive been shopping here for over 20 years and very much appreciate their dedication to being as organic, sustainable, pasture raised, etc. oriented as they can. As far as I know they continually screen their products to make sure they are up to a certain standard of environmental & social integrity (and of course the quality of the product by itself). The people are friendly. The prices are high for the average shopper, but they arent any higher than a place like wholefoods and are actually cheaper sometimes. Also, I believe the integrity of this company is more intact than wholefoods from what Ive heard here and there. I definitely recommend this grocery store. Their sister store in el cerrito has a high quality (if expensive) cafe/eatery next to it.

Berkeley Natural is a branch of its larger brother, the El Cerrito Natural Grocery, which is on San Pablo at Stockton; both are very pleasant places to shop. The Berkeley store has a good selection of organic fruits, vegetables, spices, and prepared foods, as well as freshly delivered Acme breads and olive bread from Phoenix Pastificio. The refrigerated section includes a good selection of milk products, juices, and pre-wrapped organic meats. Fresh eggs are also available, and a small number of ready-to-go foods, some brought over from El Cerrito. There is a small section of dry goods and cosmetics. The Berkeley store does not carry wine or beer.
