This nursery has disappointed me. I was so excited initially, but then my plants started not thriving. That happens sometimes with a change of location/environment so I was patient and did everything possible to make them happy. I bought a gorgeous begonia from them that died in 4 weeks. They over-fertilized it (which made the bloom so impressive) but in days it started showing leaf burn. I couldnt save it as hard as I tried. A rose I got from them was also not looking great. It was not putting out new buds or stems, and it was yellowing. It ended up to be spider mites. The spider mites then spread to my nearby plants. (I know I didnt have spider mites before the rose because I have a pretty controlled environment - a balcony - and no other plants changed.) The spider mites have taken over my elephant ear and tomatoes and have been very hard to knock back. I have one plant left from them. Its a maidenhair fern. Its not put out any new stalks. It hasnt died yet but it certainly isnt a very healthy plant.I have 20+ other plants that are all doing just fine so my conclusion is that I got unhealthy plants from this nursery.
I used to hear people talk about how American Plant is a little pricey but good quality and was scared off. Early in the pandemic when stores werent open, I ordered some perennials from an online store out if state and was unpleasantly surprised when they arrived and were TINY. Now, I view American Plant as a great value for good sized, healthy plants. I love their large selection and helpful descriptions. I can always find quite a few good native plants, which are always labeled well to help me find them. They have very good social distancing measures that make me feel safe shopping there. Makes me happy to support a great local business.
I love the selection of decorative pots and other home items here in the inside store, who ever purchases for this place has great taste and does a good job curating for different styles. The outside section here is a little overwhelming if you dont know what youre looking for, but staff will help you if you need guidance.I have had some hit or miss customer service experiences here, but I think the majority of the staff are friendly, knowledgeable, and do their best to jump in if you want help. Its a mixed bag but mostly positive. Just as an example, I was here recently buying a bunch of pots and miscellaneous stuff, and the person who rang me up completed the transaction and then wordlessly meandered away. There was too much stuff for me to carry, and it was not bagged up because of the odd sizes of the items, so I said to a different cashier, Ill be right back, I will just have to make two trips to take this stuff. Another girl jumped in and cheerfully offered to help bring things out to my car. So... weird customer service from the person who rung me up(?), but excellent customer service from the girl who carried stuff to my car :)I am deducting one star because I recently bought an outdoor hanging plant here and it literally shriveled to dust and died the next day. I specifically chose this hanging plant based on the recommendation of a friendly staff member who said it would do well in the shady area of my porch. I am not a plant expert, but I do have a lot of indoor and outdoor plants and am not a complete noob -- I have no idea how its even possible that this thing died so quickly :(Otherwise, I have only good things to say about this place and I always look forward to going here. All of the indoor plants I have bought here have done well without pests or problems. Great selection, and usually pretty good service.
Great nursery. The staff are all very knowledgeable about the plants. We discovered that that will replant into specific cases for a small fee.
Our family took a trip to both of their locations. Parking was easy at both locations. This location seemed to have a much smaller selection than their other location. For that reason I wont return. The people who work here were all nice when we approached them, but they never approached us, or offered assistance. The prices are better than the other location for plants, but the selection is smaller and harder to shop. They seem to have a lot of gift items The prices are incredibly high. After visiting both locations, I can say we wont return here and will visit the other location once a year to see their assortment of indoor plants.
Very disrespectful GM. The black gentleman will talk down to you will make fun of you to the employees within earshot. and make it seem like youre an idiot I would not shop here again. At. All save your money and go to Merrifield nicer staff bigger selection.
Brought a birds of paradise plant to be repotted came back with scales. 15+ plants at home most of which from the same flower shop on 14th street, none with scales. Certain it came from AP. Brought same bop to be repotted and looked at 3 years later (last month) and was scowled andddd it came back with fungus gnats.Asked questions about care and the scowling lady googled it so even as a profession they’d do the same thing as you.My advice is to stay home bake your soil and repot and google yourself. They have crystals that are cool and outside of the one lady the staff is very nice and pleasant, it’s just not worth the bugs.
I shop here for my indoor and outdoor garden supplies, but lately Ive seen a decline in the care of the indoor plants and very poor customer service. This is the second time Ive seen plants infested, beyond infested with spider mites and other pest. This time, every plant I picked up was infested. I told one of the workers in the greenhouse about one of the hanging baskets, and after she looked, she denied it was spider mites and threw the plant down on the floor, and stated, you can either buy it or not, its up to you. Then walked away. That was so rude! I asked the other worker in the greenhouse about treating the plant and her response to me was you can just pick one that doesnt have spider mites. I stated, if this one has them, Im sure they all do. She took the plant and walked away from me. Its clear that no one here truly cares about the condition of the plants, and seem to hate what they do. I rather order plants and supplies off line or buy plants from lowes and homes depot, than drive a few minutes down the road to this place ever again.
Amazing variety of beautiful plants. If you have only seen this place from the road, drive in. You wont believe the size of this place.
Very organized and efficient. In. Select. They load it in your trunk. Gone in 10 minutes! Try that at Home Depit!
Really a great nursery with lots of unique items you cant find at the typical big-box home improvement nursery. Some say its pricey, but the quality of comparable items is far and away, better.
Is a great place for you to get all your beautiful flowers and plants also great service 😊
A little pricy, but quality of plants is top notch. Super friendly and knowledgeable staff. Merchandised really well, interior decor items are beautiful and special.

Great variety of plant life and fun little trinkets. Staff isnt the most helpful/versed, but are friendly. Pine garlends are looking a bit brown this year though
Fabulous selection with very helpful staff. Love our greenery. Plenty of parking tooEnjoy!
Great! (If pricey.)
Its a beautiful plant store with great customer service but the only reason why I couldnt give it a five star because it is overpriced. Theyre flowerpots and planters are totally ridiculous when it comes to price.
Very good place to buy plants and trees. Knowledgeable staff can advise on just about anything garden-related. There are two locations, both on River road a few miles apart.
Fantabulous place with anything your heart desires for yards, and many many seasonal home decor ideas.Hi hi hi hi dollar $$$$$$$ investments with most items and seasonal decor ideas found much more reasonably priced at Merrifield Garden Center on Lee Highway in Fairfax, VA.
High quality plants and gardening supplies. Friendly, knowledgeable staff. Not Inexpensive, but at least you know you’re getting the best.
Very beautiful and airy place to peruse plants. Friendly, helpful staff and decent rewards for members. Large selection of plants, planters, and soils.
Slightly more expensive than what you would get at Home Depot or Lowes, but healthier and much wider selection of both annuals and perennials. Very attentive staff. All Covid safety measures observed.
Bought firewood here and it was terrible. Literally would not burn. Smoked and hissed. Obviously wet and unseasoned. Disappointed
Amazing sale
A lovely store with lots of gifts as well as plants. The prices are quite high, though.
Good quality place.
A huge variety for you to select. From indoor to outdoor plants, big or small, cheap or expensive. Service is fantastic. People just want you to enjoy shopping there and just want to help you to find the right plants for you. Only draw back is that their back gate is not always open. I live in the apartment next to it, so it really makes my life easier if I can enter by the back gate.
Very good place to buy plants and trees. Knowledgeable staff can advise on just about anything garden-related. There are two locations, both on River road a few miles apart.
Great place! Steep prices! Nice people! Prices are far more than Lowe’s or even other local garden centers...Another independent nursery up county sells for 40-50% less, if you want to make the drive.
Love to go for seeds and new arrivals
Superb selection and operation. Not cheap but its Bethesda.
Huge selection of really cool plants. The existence of this place near to where I live makes it impossible for me not to want more plants.
Beautiful store. Great products/plants. Knowledgable and friendly staff.
Phenomenal! go! its excellent! the people here know their stuff and want to help you. the plants are remarkable. it may be a little pricey - but for the months or years that youll have and enjoy these things, it is beyond worth it!
Great source of quality plants and garden supplies. Expensive because they go the extra mile, great selection, great advice and care taken with fertilizer and pest control. No bee murdering, over-fertilized plant monsters sold here. Great place to buy giftee things as well.

Cool selection of plants, but the lady working the indoor plants area gave me wrong info on every plant I had.
