So disappointed! It has been 10 years since I started using their services, although few and far between. The quality used to be good but has declined terribly over the years. Now you are lucky if the services you pay for get done there and if you get back all your shoes. They misplaced some of my shoes that somehow got separated from my ticket very recently. When I went back and asked they found some of my shoes tagged to the wrong customer. On a subsequent visit when I happened to inquire again about my shoes, another pair turned up in their lost and found. Also, leather shoes, a bag and a suitcase that I had paid them to clean and polish were returned to me recently with the same dust spots visible and unpolished. In the case of a leather bag, they returned it with polish poorly applied over moldy leather without even having cleaned the bag first. If you use their services, I do not advise that you pay upfront but that you wait until they complete the work and then pay. I also advise that you make them give you an itemized print out of your order if you are dropping off your items and take a picture of everything that you are leaving with them. Otherwise, you are at the mercy of the guys/owners memory, which is really poor lately, unfortunately. He will insist that you never ordered that service, even if you paid upfront for it. And you will have no proof, since they do not give itemized receipts or documentation of the order, beyond a mere ticket number. They also do not publish their prices on any menu, so you just get the price of the day. Extremely disappointed, since I used to like the quality of their work and recommended that people go there until these last few experiences. Never again!
Just picked up a pair of shoes that were resoled for my son. He couldn’t believe shoes could have new soles installed. The owner, who is originally from Armenia, has been running this little store for decades. He does a GREAT job. He’s put new soles on our shoes dozens of times. He has repaired luggage, backpacks, shoes, belts, all sorts of things. We love the place and haven been coming here since the late 1980s. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!
Great traditional service!
A gem of a shop. The proprietor is a fantastic jeweler and watch repair expert. Classic jewelry on sale for very reasonable prices.
High repair service quality and lots of luggage options
This vendor may be the most rude and aggressive I have come across. I see why he requires payment up front. No need for kindness if it isnt your scene, but there was no respect at all here. Indeed, there was open disdain from this man and an absolute failure to LISTEN to the customers request before beginning work.In short, I needed some $450 weightlifting shoes re-heeled. I came to the shop on Wednesday, May 23. I got a bad vibe on that drop-off day, but Im loathe to assume the worst of a person. Figured he had the craftsmanship to add the heel height. Not only was he abrasive and short the whole time, but DESPITE my calling the next day to confirm he understood the directions (and being curtly and abruptly dismissed from the call), I returned to see he had entirely misunderstood. The shoes were--are--ruined. Ill try to salvage them somewhere else, but that is a $60 lost for the service of disrespect, anger, and ruined goods. There are other options, everyone; leave off this one.
The grumpy old man is by far the most rude Ive ever seen. He charges too much as he seems to assume customers in Bethesda have money to throw at him. I took my luggage which had a broken zipper pull tab for which he wanted to charge $38. I left it with him and paid for it thinking thats too much. After leaving I checked with another luggage repair shop which was asking $20 for the same work. I called the grumpy old man to try and understand if hes doing something unique and special for him to charge $38 which others charge $20, and his answer was come pick it up . Needless to say I went and picked up my luggage. After leaving with my luggage, I noticed that he also cut the loop on the zipper pull. Very simply, a very rotten short old man. I would recommend to anyone to go elsewhere for luggage and shoe repairs. I plan to also report him to the BBB. If I would give less than 1 start, I wouldve given a zero star.
Nice people to do business with. Old-time service by true craftsmen.
They resoled my Louboutins fine, but could not fix the platform on my Marnis and advised me to throw the shoes. Found a place in NYC that can fix everything beautifully. Also, asked them to tighten some straps on another pair of Louboutins and they couldnt get both the same. They charged me each time I went back to have them tweak it again, my mistake for going back.
Hands down, BEST place for shoe repair! I called in a panic 1 hour before they closed on a Saturday after realizing that my shoes for a Monday interview had broken heels. I asked if they could fix them that day (since they were closed Sunday) and they told me to come right over and that they would even keep the shop open for me. They fixed my shoes within a couple of minutes and not only that, the shoes looked absolutely brand new! I cannot recommend this shop enough!
LISTEN! Took a pair of Allen Edmonds Tate Chukka boots to Fortunas on Woodmont Ave. to Vibram soles put on. Botched job. Had another pair of shoes that I wanted resoled - a pair of Allen Edmonds Longbranch boots that came with a really soft Vibram sole that I didnt really like, so I asked Mr. John to replace with the harder Vibram rubber lug sole. AMAZING! I took my Tate Chukkas to him and asked if he could fix, and Voila! It was almost as if it were a BRAND NEW SHOE! So, I took another TWO pairs of shoes to him to have Dainite soles put on - Allen Edmonds Del Ray and a pair of leather dress boots. I got the Del Rays back today and Oooo weeeee! John and Peter did an AMAZING job! My shoes are practically BRAND NEW! I cant wait to see what the boots will look like! So, in the course of 2 weeks, John and Peter have resoled 4 pairs of shoes for me, and Im just LOOKING to find some way for me to keep giving them more money! Thanks John and Peter for such fabulous work!
I don’t just write reviews for everything, but whenever the experience is really noteworthy, I make sure to put in a good word. I had a spectacular experience getting my old shoes repaired or their parts replaced by the excellent and friendly guys at Bethesda Shoe and Luggage.
I’ve been here a number of times but have yet to write a review. Over the years, there have been a few faces I have seen come and go from the shop, but this week when I went there was an older gentleman who I believe may be the owner as I have seen him in years past.I had moved a little bit out of the area, so I looked up new options around me. I called a shoe repair shop with a number of five star reviews in Chevy Chase, and I ask how much it would cost to add a Topy. This lady proceeded to berate me, saying what on earth am I talking about. I explained that the Topy was a rubber sole that would cover my existing leather sole, she said why didn’t I say that then?So I went back to my old neighborhood and took the shoes to Bethesda Shoe & Luggage Repair, I asked the gentleman for a Topy and he said no problem. To me, if you don’t know the major manufacturers of products in your industry (Vibram, Dainite, Topy etc.) then you shouldn’t be in this line of business. Anyway, rant over - the gentleman here did a fine job with the three pairs of shoes I dropped off and instead of looking for a new place in my new area, Bethesda Shoe and Luggage Repair will retain my business.I don’t think their prices are out of whack, sure you could add a rubber sole covering to your shoes yourself for less, but I prefer it done professionally and expeditiously.I have also had luggage zippers repaired here, my wife has had heels fixed here, and everything was done on time and done well. No issues.
Work was great. Definitely will be a repeat customer.
Always helpful. This is Bethesda at its best.
Great place fabulous work been a repeat customer for 30 years
I got the soles and heels of two pairs of boots fixed and they did a great job.
Excellent
I was decluttering my apartment and found 6 pairs of shoes of husband’s. Took them to this place and had them looked at if they could be salvaged. I came home today with all of them fixed and my husband couldn’t be any happier.
Excellent workmanship.
Reasonable price to fix my broken shoelace.
Good shoe repair
Fine work
