Really neat and interesting place, everyone was super helpful. If youre in the market for plants or flowers for the garden or landscaping, this is your place. Parking is terrible, be prepared to walk. But I saw that they have kiddie wagons to help transport items to your vehicle. But definitely worth the trip.
Everyone at Urban Roots has solid knowledge of products and are welcoming and helpful. Plants are top quality with a great variety of unique and annual favorites. Highly recommend for both indoor and outdoor plants. The whole operation is run quite well.
Great environment inside and out, plenty of helpful and knowledgeable staff, and a wonderful assortment of interesting and healthy plants! We joined as members and were enthusiastically welcomed. Looking forward to many happy shopping and learning experiences here!
A bit overpriced. An alot of the shrubs look very sickly an dying.a unique place but expensive.
A lot of seasonal plants and the staff is very helpful.
Excellent service, by knowledgeable staff. Great selection of quality plants and accoutrement.
Ive been going to Urban Roots all summer to add to my garden (this week I forgot a mask, and with a shirt over my face waved and asked if they had extras for the forgetful, and they graciously went and gave me a disposable one).1 - Easy and Convenient - Youre innout, saving lots of time.2 - Great service - I can go in saying Im looking for a flowering shrub that likes shade and neglect or full sun, native and will be watered and they can walk me around to everything in those categories, and tell me what will be coming.3 - Selection - They have a lot of selection of new plants. My favorite for this year is Sea Holly.4 - Good quality - I bought a lot of plants here, and they have all taken off! My butterfly bush went in the ground and then doubled in size.If you stop by on a bike, you can buy something big and come back for it with a car later.Disclosure: I like them so much I became a member this year. Its the countrys only cooperative nursery! Whats more locally owned than a co-op?Urban Roots adds to the community atmosphere by maintaining great landscaping outside fo their fence and neighboring small park very nice.
Great indoor selection, plants are healthy and well cared for. Summer outdoor stuff is also very good, vegetable seedlings and shade plant selection in particular. Staff is very knowledgeable and ready help!
Wonderful shop. The man was very knowledgeable and helped me find a plant that was perfect for me!
I’ve been a customer for many years and have enjoyed getting all of our flowers, plants, gardening supplies & tools from Urban Roots. Unfortunately, the greeting I received at the entrance this past Friday was less-than-friendly. I arrived (masked) and was bluntly told by the individual manning the entrance that I couldn’t enter without an appointment. No explanation. No referral to the website. I only found out from the lovely Bridgette there—who’s assisted me with our selections over the years...for 2 properties. I waved her down to inquire. Upon review of the newly-installed COVID-19 policies...which I find to be a tad excessive, I still moved forward to create a profile to schedule an appointment next weekend—only to find I couldn’t do so. Sadly, I’m now considering the option of taking my business elsewhere. I simply don’t have the time to jump through hoops when other local businesses will jump at the opportunity to win business. This is not a good formula, folks. I welcome your response. Good luck.
I went in there looking around for some new houseplants. I forgot to ask her name but some woman helped my find the right size pots for some plants I already had. She also helped me find a new baby monstera 🥰. Everyone here is super helpful. If you have the chance please stop by.
Urban Roots Cooperative Garden Market is a cute, hip looking garden center located in a happening part of town. This is a really great spot if you want to start a garden and are thinking of shopping local. This place is really nicely laid out and they know what they are doing. It is also a great place to buy a gift for someone. Plants make great gifts.
Extremely nice staff, very helpful and knowledgeable! Thanks for helping with the fiddlehead plant!
Love this store, just discovered it. Owners are so helpful and knowledgeable.. they will help you find a plant for your lighting. Cute planters and pots too
Wonderful plant store! Great staff and selection of products. Highly recommend this place.
This place is wonderful. The staff helped me pick out a beautiful string of pearls plant in February which has been a pleasant addition to my window.I went back last weekend for another hanging plant and was eyeing a wandering Jew, which found another home quickly, much to my chagrin. Luckily (and very very kindly) the staff had saved a few cuttings and gave them to me with the pencil plant I purchased. The plants on selection are unique and displayed with care. I am continually impressed by the customer service as well. I will be back again and again :)
Buy plants and Mulch here every Spring. Wonderful selection and friendly, kind workers.
A little Buffalo treasure, and a fun part of a weekend outing to the Five Points intersection on the West side of Buffalo - Check out Urban Roots great garden gift selections and have the knowledgeable staff direct you as you mull over your options for your garden or yard this year. I have had a lot of success with both my vegetable and flower gardens for the last 10 years buying primarily from Urban Roots (without having much of an idea about what Im doing other than what I read on labels and help from Urban Roots).I usually tie my trip in with a stop at Five Points Bakery for toast and coffee, and grab a pressed juice to go at Press Food & Juice next door, check out the wine at Paradise Wines, and see what is going on at the airbrush art store on the final corner.
Good products, good prices, excellent people, excellent community involvement. And inside Buffalo, not suburbs.
The women who work here are very helpful, and wise. Id be lost without their help. This is my first summer of taking my property seriously. Im composting, planning for birds and bunnies. Its been excellent exercise. I recommend you join and shop here.
Lots of tropical plants
Cool store that adds to the character of the neighborhood. I was especially impressed by the staff - they are extremely nice and helpful.
Great local small business with a tremendous selection of gifts and all things garden!
Great little store in 5-P area.My first shopping experience was delightful. The employee that helped me was insightful and knowledgeable.Excellent little gem in our amazing city. Will DEFINITELY be back!
Prices are a little high, but its great to have a nice Garden center right in town.
Great place to find native plants! And unusual ones, too.
Really liked the selection of plants and they atmosphere. Will definitely come back.
I stopped in to urban roots today, a place Ive been shopping at since they opened their doors. I was looking around and asked a worker about some plants, she said they were from last yr and on sale so I asked her how much she said $5 so I found one i liked went to cash out I said to women at register this plant is $5 right she said no its $7 I said well the girl outside said it was $5 she told me oh well shes new and didnt know better. I asked the lady well can u at least take something off a $1 because of the mis quote she told me no. I even took these folks a bag of daff their opening day which to me recollection has been 10 to 12 yrs now over a $1 is bad customer service and being community driven poor service.
My favorite local garden store. A great selection of plants.
Nice stuff!!!
Great place to get information about gardening!! Rachel is sooo amazing and she is very informative and helpful..
I have been gardening a long time, but am relatively new to the area. We went to this nursery last summer based on the recommendation of a couple of friends. Their selection is decent (although small), although their plants are on the pricey side. I got a few small perennials (I buy mostly online), and I must say the quality was unimpressive. The major problems arose from the fact that we also special-ordered a few conifers that were quite pricey--near $100 each. The owner assured us that all three were good choices for this regions climate and soil. We brought them home, planted them in high-quality soil, kept them diligently watered, and all was well. I do not lose many purchased plants.Until this spring. It was a late spring, so it took us longer than it might have to realize that two out of three of these plants were dead. (Sometimes dead conifers stay green throughout the winter, much like a plant in the fridge.) Im not an expert on conifers, but Im fairly confident this was not our fault. First, they are surrounded by other plants in the same area, and all but one out of about 30 are *thriving* (the sole exception being a perennial penstemon, also from Urban Roots). We are also confident in our planting and watering habits. But, I figured good nurseries offer guarantees of their plants, so I wasnt especially concerned.Urban Roots apparently only offers an in-store 50% credit if their plants die within one year. If I had known that to begin with, I would have gone elsewhere. Again, Im not from here, but this is not typical of other nurseries with which I have had dealings. What made matters worse is that when I contacted them I was a few DAYS beyond the one year limit, so they decided that we get nothing. I told them I understood the one year policy, but that I did not think that a few DAYS should be the difference between a guarantee and nothing, particularly with a very late spring. They were unmoved. So were out ~$200 bucks with some dead trees in our yard.I asked to speak to a manager, but was told that this decision had come from the manager. I asked her to call me again, but have heard nothing. This is NOT the practices of a well-managed nursery. Reputable nurseries offer 100% guarantees of their products, and they should not be so draconian about a few days difference. I might have considered going back there if the manager had at least contacted me to discuss this issue as I requested, but no such luck. As it is, I will never go back there again and strongly recommend others go elsewhere. At least for plants you care about.
Love supporting the community while taking care of my gardening needs. I found the staff to be so helpful, it was a pleasure to go there.
SO helpful every season!

They have some cool unique plants you don’t get at your local department store.
Great place for gifts.
