This place always delivers.. consistently good, no fuss take out. Cowboy burger and Cajun fries are a fave.
The kinda place that during the day...you could get a dam tasty burger and all is well...yet, during the night hours it morphs into a Detroit meat market. It would be wise to bring a weapon so as not to wind up on the main course.
Ordered friend pickles and received French fries. Ordered spicy chicken fingers and received regular chicken fingers. The food that was correct was very good but I am very disappointed I didnt receive what I Ordered through Uber eats.
Great people, staff is fun and interactiable food. Nearly perfect grill menu.. food is delicious, never have had one compliant towards grill food. Shelves ALMOSTalways full. STAFF IS BEST PART... Except one guy whos been there for as long as Ive been going there!!30 plus! Always short and grumpy with everyone not just me
Could benefit from some nicer staff and a thorough cleaning. Good food though.
Love their beyond burger. i have dietary restrictions and its rare i see something i can eat at such a good price. i eat here all the time!
I used to live on Cedar st, about a block away from the Shopping Bag, and this place was basically my bodega. I could get toilet paper, a Sizzler, beer, detergent and maybe see a fight all in one place. The burgers are the perfect alcohol soaking grease sponges and you dont have to deal with fake niceties from the register. They check your stuff, you pay and no one has to say anything, its great.I get the diablo, its not that spicy because of the jalapeno poppers so I recommend hot sauce. They tend to have specials, which can be worth it. Youre best off ordering online. Enjoy.
The Sizzler is a great burger, especially considering it’s only $7. Half pound of beef bacon and all the fixings, lettuce and tomato included. It’s made at a grill station in the front of a neighborhood store. You grab your drink and order at the cashier. It took about 10 minutes when I was there and there’s no great place to wait. Service was a little rude. It’s the kind of place where you need to be a regular.
The Shopping bag is a small neighborhood corner convenience shop, BUT.. with a grill up front, and a butcher/meat counter in back! Sizzler burger is awesome. Grab some drinks out of cooler (they have Surge!) and place your food order at the register. Staff is nice and entertaining while you wait.. can be a little long 10-15 minutes as order is made fresh, well worth it! Crowd inside can sometimes be a bit sketchy, but you can always call ahead and place orders over phone for pick up limiting the time waiting..
The Shopping Bag is the best corner store in the ONE. They have the best prices on tobacco and alcohol, every household or food staple you could need, and takeout available to order in person and online. Since the 70s theyve provided the neighborhood with heartwarming and gut-filling meals, finally acknowledged when the Food Network crowned the Sizzler the best burger in Vt. Certified in curing hangovers AND heartbreak.Order food at the register and dont ask if your order is done yet. If it was itd be in your hands.(DISCLAIMER: Do not expect the customer is always right treatment here. If, can I speak to your manager? Is in your vocabulary, try the co-op down the road)
Seems to be a hit or a miss ... and well it was a complete miss for us. First, waited for 45 minutes for the order to be complete ... 2nd, my son’s hamburger were ready 15m before and was serve with the full order ... so it was between warm and cold . And quite tasteless . Oddly enough, My burger was good but not great . Didn’t worth the 45m wait...
The best burger I have ever had! Congratulations!
The food is mediocre at best and not worth the customer service. I wore a Pride hat inside to pick up my prepaid order and immediately knew it was a mistake. The homophobia practically oozed off of the cashier. He was incredibly rude to me but nice to the people both in front and behind me. Then the men at the pick up counter completely ignored me, did not even acknowledge my existence, until I insisted that they do so. Again, this was not the same treatment that others got in the store, and it felt awful. The burgers were overcooked and oversold by online reviews, but even if they had been as good as advertised, they would not have been able to remove the bad taste of homophobia that the Shopping Bag left in my mouth.
This place is legit! Best food in town and by far the best cashier in Chittenden County.
Dont let the locale or the nondescript entrance fool you, The Shopping Bag is the real deal. Ask anyone- this is the best burger in Burlington, maybe Vermont. Call ahead so your food is ready when you arrive. The Sizzler is the go-to, but if youre feeling adventurous try one of the others for an experience.
Sizzler was profoundly good
Love the burgers and fries!LOVE THEM!
The food is delicious. I like the atmosphere of this place. Its like a meeting place for folks of the O. N. E.
Shopping bag has the best burgers and sandwiches! Better burgers than any restaurant in town.
The thing about Burlington is, the best stores are the small convenience stores in the North End. The Shopping Bag is no exception, featuring a wide array of burgers, each one just as delicious as the last. My go to spot for people visiting the city. It also has all kinds of snacks, drinks, and other household food. Definately recommend as a regular spot to go to if youre looking for a bite to eat
Don’t let the outside appearance of the building deter you. Good food, large amount. Friendly staff!
Dont let the look of this place fool you, they dont look like anything special on the inside or even inside of the store, its very tight quarters and looks like a convenience store- however the burgers they make are amazing! We would go back regardless of the price but the prices were great especially for the size you get. Boyfriend and I went half and half with the cowboy burger and sizzling burger, we both agreed the cowboy burger was good but that the SIZZLING burger was AMAZING!!
Great prices, great burgers/deli. Friendly, knowledgeable and helpful staff. Vermont-style bodega.
So slow!
Loud - mouthed, overbearing and rude! Thats just the beginning when it comes to describing the staff. And the Shopping Bag is NOT the cheapest place to buy cigarettes, JRS Corner Store is. Plus the staff at JRS is kind and accommodating. (I smoke American Spirits and they are still cheapest there.) Also, the Shopping Bag is always disgustingly dirty. The staff isnt just lacking personality but they are also LAZY. No one cleans. And the last time that I was in there I wanted a quarter pound of deli meat (I live alone and food always spoils), and they said they have a half pound minimum. Wow, way to disrespect the public and lose customers. I only went in there for the deli. Now I have no reason at all. Just a few more feet down North Street youll find JRS Corner Store. Prices are better and staff have personality - NOT attitudes.
Best Burlington burgers. Premium in-store blend of ground beef. Always tender, juicy, and delicious. Several custom specialty burgers available, or build your own from a great variety of toppings. Try one with sizzler seasoning and Heady Topper sauce and whatever the hell else you want, like bacon and pepper jack and cheddar.
I think best burger in VT is a little bit of a stretch, but the Sizzler is certainly the best deli burger around, and there is nothing burger related around thats so good for only 6 bucks. However, they do tend to serve everything well done, regardless of how it is ordered. But coming from a guy that likes his meat really rare, this still an amazing burger!
Probably the best burger Ive had in the US. I reckon it beats all the NY stores because the beef patty is fresh. Word has it that they tenderise it themselves. A non pretentious grocery store in the neighbourhoods.
Cashier almost always has an attitude, Im not sure if he just hates his job or his life but still thats no reason to be rude to Everyday paying customers, when you go to place an order they rush you off the phone they barely listen to you and they got the order wrong more than allot of the time in some form or another... some workers are respectful and sometimes the foods good... you just never know what your gonna get
Somehow people just know how to find these gems in rough everywhere !!From PRIMANATTIS in PITTSBURGH, to THE FLAMING SKILLET in NEW ORLEANS, ..good, inexpensive, working mans fare can be found here in BURLINGTON VERMONT as well !YES this place is that good and they know it !!The NEW YORK TIMES dont lie ...you have to try this place personally to appreciate its uniqueness and commitment to the neighborhood it serves to appreciate it
I ordered the Sizzler after hearing so much about it. I wasnt impressed whatsoever. It is a great serving for 7 dollars but I would not call it the best burger in the state at all. Five guys is honestly better, but if you are really looking for the best in the state I would reccomend Burger Barn in Jeffersonville. Burger was a 6/10.
I called tonight around 6:30pm to find out how late they serve food because there is a discrepancy between the webpage and the Yelp page. The person who answered the phone was utterly uncouth and totally inappropriate. He hung up on me just for informing him of the discrepancy. I called back to tell him I didnt call to complain but to order but when he put me on hold i could hear him talking about me and the gaul I must have for calling the store when he doesnt control the Yelp, no body here controls the Yelp. I was a brand new customer, I was OVERLY excited to try this food. Sadly, Ill never, because people who talk to their customers like that, talk ABOUT their customers like that dont care about their customers. Glad Im not going to be one. If you can afford to hire such socially disconnected people maybe you can also afford a phone with an actual Hold feature. So, can you get a burger until 9 or is it 11? Hell if I know...
The burgers were incredible!
Out of so the little convenient stores in downtown Burlington this one il you have to stop at!
You guys are the result place in town F YEEH
I was told over the phone my order would be ready in 30 minutes. I showed up 30 minutes later and they said in a very rude manner the order needs another 15 minutes. After nearly an hour of waiting they asked me what I wanted, even though they had already taken the order over the phone and clearly never started it. I walked out without any food and will not be going back.
Absolutely delicious food, the burgers are wonderful and not too expensive. The store is small though, I have a double stroller and cant go there alone because the stroller doesnt fit in the store :/ other than the size its amazing!
These guys make the best burgers in town. The location IS iffy, as one other reviewer said, but the fact Shopping Bag is ON North Street is a lifesaver to all the low income folk down on North Street. They have an excellent selection of meat at this store, and at reasonable prices. These guys are providing a service. The North Street rednecks may be a bit boisterous, but they are the healthiest rednecks in VT.
Sadly, people so disgusting the burger no longer tastes good. This wasnt my first time going to The Shopping Bag for a burger. Last couple of times burger was good and was a good enough reason to go back. Today while walking towards there to pick up my lunch, a man with a cane wearing what seemed to be leggings walked by their door. What seemed to be all the employees working there today bust out of the door to harass, degrade, and mock the man has he walked down the street. Yelling for example Hey sweety, are you wearing tights?, Are you supposed to be Peter Pan?, Hey there pretty boy nice tights, Id pay for that. All I can say is with people this disrespectful and disgusting, their food has been completely tainted and they have successfully lost any sort of patron that I wouldve been.
The Shopping Bag is so good! And I love the new online ordering process!
Asked for medium-rare and got a well done sizzler. It was still tasty, but If Im paying $6.00 for a Burger, I want it done rite. The guy cooking wasnt even that busy.I ordered a large fry which was $4.00. Good fries but not $4.00 worth- a bit small. My order came to $13.00 even. Thats a lot of tax. I think somebody at the register may be skimming off the top!
Good beer selection! Bought a regular cheeseburger for 4 bucks, I thought it was great! But shredded lettuce can only go so far in my world
Huge and good burgers. Definitely try if youre here for a while. Not a destination spot though. Can get claustrophobic around lunch time.
Really good burgers!!! Not a lot of choices in the O.N.E so I am grateful for the Bag!!! The deli has great steaks also👍
The best burgers and donuts, locally found in Burlington. Trust the Sizzler Burgers are out of this world! A must eat at place!
The shopping bag is a great stop for any of your small market needs. Props to them for the following:Good beer and wine selectionSmall-farm Vermont dairy productsThe SizzlerBiggy Iggys/Chewy Louies
Friendly staff with a laid back atmosphere. Great food and cheapest place to buy cigarettes!!
Shopping Bag has the best burgers in town hands down. If youre really hungry try the Scibek Sizzler!!! Fries are great, and so is everything else. If burgers are what you crave Shopping Bags your place for no frills, delisciousness...
Some of the best burgers in Burlington. I ordered the Don and really enjoyed the gigantic burger.
The people working here have been with the company for years and if you frequent the store regularly youll notice they will usually remember you and no what you need. Definitely a place for great burgers and fries at a reasonable price. Might have to wait 10-15 mins for your order, but once you get it youll be happy you did.
Although it at first appears to be a dark generic convenience store, this facade hides one of the best burgers Ive ever eaten.
Best Burgers in the area! The Bad Andy is my favorite so far, Ill be ordering again soon thats for sure.
Most of the time the grilled food is pretty decent. Miscreants have taken occupancy on the front sidewalk. Has a dirty shaft atmoshper.
Can never order something over the phone because its always busy and standing in a convenient store in a sketchy ass part of town isnt enjoyable. If youre running a deli, its a smart idea to take orders. Took 2 hours of calling and i gave up. VERY disappointed
Always has a good vibe in the store an great food at an even better price. I go there everyday for something.
Amazing burgers and fresh cut frys! Very friendly staff! The sizzler is the best burger in VT by far!!
Best burger in town - no where to sit though. Take it to battery park and have a view of the lake. Sizzlers all the way.
Awesome. Youd never expect from the facade that they serve some of the best burgers around. Try The Sizzler and you wont regret it!
You dont go here for the service, you go for the really good food & inexpensive prices. Its a little far out from the center of Burlington, but its worth the walk and the wait. Get a burger.
The burger called the El Diablo is really really good, part taco, part burger, its great. I saw some rudeness at other tables, which bothers me.
Always a great place to grab some good food. And talk sports
Love the bag. Best food in town
I have been consistently let down by the specialty burgers that everyone raves about. I know what Im getting into with a greasy, oversized burger, and sometimes it hits the spot, but Shopping Bags specialty burgers just have no sense of proportion. If youre gonna cook a single half-pound patty till its medium-well, youll never get anything but dry, grainy meat, no matter how much mayo you add to the bun.The experience of eating a sizzler is like taking a bite of the worst meatloaf youve ever had, with a bite of one of the wetter, mayonnaise-soaked coleslaws youve ever tasted. The most frustrating part is that you can get any of these specialty burgers as a 1/4lb mini-specialty, which solves all their meat problems, but they dont tone down the number of add-ons accordingly... So the mini-burgers are an excellent thin burger (as opposed to a bistro burger) that is murdered by an overabundance of sauce and lettuce. They could fix all this in three ways:1) add some binders and fillers to the 1/2lb patty to preserve its moistness while it cooks2) make double quarter pounders instead, so you get more surface area for the Maillard reaction, and can put cheese and sauce in between the burgers.3) cook the patties to medium rare, so they dont go grainy
The burger was large and cheap, but there are better options for a similar price in town.
Trying to order over $50 worth of food.. was on hold for over 7 mins.. I finally just hung up.. Now Ive been calling over and over and over just for it to be busy... Im now calling chicks market.. F**k this place
The Sizzler is huge! Best burger in town.
About as good as it gets for corner store dining. The fried mushrooms are something special.
Cowboy up and sizzler 💯💯💯 dope fries. Five forks
Shhh #1 burgers
Awesome hole in the wall love there burgers
Amazing food but wicked busy!
Good people, good food, good price.
Always good Burgers . always
Best food in town
I called 5 times with one being busy the others no answer. The voice mail said deli open tIll 10. When I get there the guy said they had to close early because he was the only one there, when I saw an other employee and asked about him I was told that they actually close early every monday. This is the third time that Ive gone in for them to be closed at least an hour early.
You can get snacks and burgers and fries and stuff its good not great though
The best burgers in Vermont
Best burger in VT. Hands down.
