I waited a while to post this review because I wanted to see if the camera I chose was a great fit for me, and I am pessimistic, picky person. Hundreds of photos later, I am a happy camper. Sean, the employee who helped me out, was extra helpful in helping me find a camera that fits my needs. He spent time assessing the demands with which I have to work and what I valued in a camera. His insight was very much needed.I wasted so much time trying to find the perfect camera for me online - dont make that mistake. Go to San Jose Camera and have someone help find the right fit for you. It will make a difference, I promise! Choosing a camera is like choosing a life partner: some look great on paper, but arent a good match!

Had a great experience renting cameras and lenses for a trip.

The trade-in process was very easy and they paid almost the same as what I could sell privately but without the risk and hassle. They also give 15% extra for trade in if you want store credit. I will definitely shop here more instead of big chains.

Very friendly helpful staff. Had adequate covid precautions in place. The inventory has been effected by the current shortages. I ended up buying the camera online due to the stock issues, but did buy a pair of binoculars for my son. The staff was very helpful and pointed me to one with adequate weather proofing. Will be back as I further this photography hobby.

Great camera store with employees who take their time, listen to your needs, and provide honest recommendations. Theres new as well as used gear, accessories, bags, lighting, reflectors, even analogue photography gear can be found here! They dont process or develop film, but they did recommend a shop downtown that does it. Highly recommend San Jose Camera & Video.

Even though I did not buy my camera at San Jose Camera & Video, when I called to see if they offered classes to learn how to operate my new Panasonic Lumix FZ80, a precious gentleman named Richard said to just drop by any Monday-Thursday and he or someone there would be glad to give me a few instructions to up and running at no cost. I went on a Saturday around 11 and they were fully staffed and welcoming. Answered my questions politely and gave me space to browse too. Found what I came for and checkout was efficient.

Just checked to see if they are still open after the pandemic shutdown. Cant say 100%, but based on their website, Id guess they are.

DONT bother coming here if youre new to video/photo. All five times Ive been here in the past to rent/buy, the staff is super RUDE, especially the older guy. I would always ask questions about the gear and they always give me an attitude as if it was a dumb question to ask. Trash.

I went to this place to buy the Sony 55/1.8 lens. At first, the sales woman (I don’t know her name) made a mistake with the price. When I pointed out she quickly fixed it. It was super clear it was just an honest mistake.When I presented my credit card,She on her own told me that they were discounting the tax today. And then an another sales woman pointed out that I can get a further discount of 100$ using some Sony program. All these after I was ready with my credit card out.I say this is excellent customer service and shows integrity.As much as possible I will buy my photography gear only here.Oh. BTW. They almost always match amazon and bhohotovideo prices. And the staff is very knowledgeable.V

I really like the service and product availability here. I worked with a really nice woman who sold me the Canon 10-18mm and a wireless remote. Both of which I didn’t need, so when I went to return it, Alex was super nice with the whole transaction! It’s nice to have a legit camera store around the area, especially one with great customer service!

The staff at San Jose Camera & Video are definitely helpful and can answer any question you may have. Many of the staff there are photographers themselves. Ive made several purchases here a while back and thoroughly enjoyed their wide selections of gear from camera bags, to tripods, and lenses.

Really the only camera store in the south bay. Very knowledgeable staff, that will leave you alone until you ask for help. While they did not have excatly what i was looking for (very esoteric lighting stuff), they did answer questions about and suggested other solutions. Good people

I love being able to walk in, check out the gear in person, get help with knowledgeable salespeople, and then walk out with new gear that I can use immediately! I do most of my shopping online these days, but with fixed prices for most camera gear I much prefer to support a local shop.

Please be careful when you rent stuff from this place. We had a horrible experience with it. A sales executive cheated us by noting extra items on the invoice when they were actually not in the box they gave us. We rented a camera and a lens. In the camera box there were only 3 items but the executive noted 5 items on the invoice. We left the place not realising that. When we went back to return it, they said there were supposed to be 5 items and they charged us for the extra 2 items that we never received.

I would give this place 0 stars if I could. I called San Jose Camera & Video looking for an adapter for my camera. The employee on the phone checked if they had any in stock, but they didnt have anymore at the time. I asked the employee how much the item cost when the adapter was in stock, but I was shocked by how expensive San Jose Camera & Video sold it for. The price the employee told was MORE THAN DOUBLE the price of the item sold in other places (i.e. Amazon).I kindly asked, Are you sure were talking about the same adapter?The employee said, Yes, thats the price.To which I replied, I really want to support locally owned business... and then was hung up on before I could complete my sentence.No - Thank you for calling.No - Well looking into that.No - nothing... just a flat out violent hang up on the other end.I didnt say anything to deserve that.I have absolutely no incentive whatsoever to go into this store, let alone give this place a chance. I wouldnt recommend this place to the last photographer in the world.

I’ve been buying my camera gears in this local store but today is an exceptional service. The lady salesperson was hesitant to let me touch the camera. I said I wanna see the camera body out of the box . The lady salesperson did hand me the camera out from the box but told me you can not unwrap it because once it’s unwrapped it becomes a used camera . I’m not sure if this is store policy but I haven’t experienced this before when I bought my 5d mark 2 and 3 and lenses .

Definitely the best camera store in the Bay area. Professional knowledgeable friendly staff that all seem like real camera lovers and camera experts. Great store for pros and beginners alike. Extensive selection of all things photography. Its fantastic that you can try most items in the store. And, they have a really large assortment of photography accessories.

I’ve been an avid photographer for well over 30 years. I’ve seen the industry endure major changes when online shopping took hold. Everyone wants a deal but where can you go when you have a question? I can’t count the number of times when I needed a specific piece of equipment, can’t find it online anywhere and they have it. You can rent equipment there too. They also have classes, just check their website. This is the last full service camera store in San Jose. I’ve always gotten great service and glad they’re still around.

Great customer service, very welcoming. Judgement free zone. Right as I walked in Shannon asked if she could help me. I originally came in to see if we could find what needed to be repaired. After realizing it wasnt worth it. She patiently explained and recommended different options for all the different interests I had. She was so kind and friendly. Very pro with knowledgeable staff. One of the few real camera stores left in the area. They’re in business because they love photography. Camera prices are competitive, but accessories are a bit pricey. But if you need it, that’s where you can find it. It can get busy on Saturdays, and the parking lot is small, so you may need to be creative when parking. If you need help, they appear eager to help.

I had a fantastic experience at San Jose Camera & Video. I rented a lens, lights, rode wireless film maker kit, and a tripod for a quick shoot I did over the weekend. I was grateful for the expertise regarding the equipment that multiple employees had while working out what I needed. They were understanding, flexible, helpful, and ultimately they set me up for a successful shoot that allowed me to focus on what I needed to focus on. I was geeking out a bit while in their store and am now trying to think of another excuse to do a shoot in San Jose to justify renting from them again.

Brought in my camera to try out a couple of lenses. Staff was very friendly and knowledgeable on the lenses I was looking at (some of them were also available to rent), and they appear to have a good amount of equipment in stock. If youre looking for a local camera place to look at gear in person, rent or buy, this is the place to go.

I went in there looking to buy studio lighting stuff and almost ended up buying a tripod and ball head 😊. I feel like a kid in a candy store here .

If I could give more stars I would. Super impressed with great service and very knowledge staff. Came to fix a lease for a family who lives on an island nation. Wanted to make sure his Nikon lense was fixed by a certified repair person. These folks took care of it! I was prepared that we would have to submit to a service center. Yet when they evaluated on the spot and found it was a repair they could do in-house. They took care of the lense and tested all functionality within a very reasonable time. Very limited options for rentals and purchases in store. They do have everything if you place an order but if you are in a hurry, the selection on shelves is quite limited. Good knowledgable staff, can get stoic at times and I prefer friendly faces when I go to shop but thats just me

First, I must say that for the most part, the customer service has been terrible. There are 1-2 nice energetic people behind the counter, who actually seem like they like and want to talk to you, but the other 3-4 are just not fun to talk to. They will give you information, but they wont work with you or try to help you any further. They do have a large selection of cameras and equipment, although virtually nothing is priced any less than at other camera shops. If you know what you want, you might as well go with amazon. Overall, Id say San Jose Camera is a good place to browse camera equipment, but not the place with the prices and they definitely need to pick on the customer service front.

I will start by saying if you want a better price, they are out there. While competitive, if you dont need help.... Check online. If you want help.... These folks can help. I dealt with Jim... Knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. Ultimately I bought the Canon 80D. They offer the typical extended warranty but he was not part about it. Jim took my no at face value and didnt bring it up again. Overall....a good experience, only reason it was not a 5 star was price!

This store is great. As a local filmmaker, I find myself needing the weirdest things. From C-Stands and lights, to miscellaneous parts that are needed on set, this place has got them. Ive bought lenses, tripods, lights, and accessories here. This place stays up to date on some of the newest stuff. They match amazon prices, and they use Apple Pay!The staff has always been helpful to me. I dont know why some people have had bad interactions, theyve always been kind and helpful to me. Theyre also not afraid to send you to a different local store, if they dont have what you need.

Wow! I came in here looking for a DSLR for my daughter and needed advice. They have a huge selection with every major brand in stock The staff was very friendly and very helpful with zero pressure to buy. We walked through several choices and then I decided to go home and do more research. Turns out what they suggested was spot on and I have ordered it from them online.

This store has been here for ages its the best place for camera gear in the areas. Their prices are competitive, its easy to get to and staff is very knowledgeable. They do take photography seriously and can be a bit abrasive but if you come in and know what you want and know what you are looking for its a fantastic resource. They have a very large inventory and I cant think of an occasion where I ever left here without getting exactly what I wanted.

A fully stocked store that specializes in cameras and all of the surrounding gear. This place has been in business forever and is still the most dependable source for all kinds of photography related things. Staff is knowledgeable and very helpful.

A physical camera store with a decent selection and staff who actually know something about photography. Service can be slightly hit or miss, but I have had overall very good experiences. Youll pay a little bit more than you will if you go to some online or gray market retailers, but thats the cost of doing business in a physical location.One request. Please dont use this as a location to go showrooming...you know, that thing where people look and touch the merchandise in a store, then buy online. Its valuable to have a real store in your community and to support people who work there. And you might even save money, because youre more likely to make the right purchase in the first place.Ironically, I dont have photos because I was too busy shopping while I was there 😄

No warmth, friendliness or any real sense of willingness to engage from the staff member I dealt with. I spent $700 in here today and he didnt even offer me a bag to put everything in - he just left it all there on the counter and expected me to carry everything in my arms. Not exactly a joyful retail experience.

I gave them my Nikon s800c for servicing, and the thing came back two full months later, without an English soft-keyboard, and with an inability to recognize a connection to Googles servers. Everyone working there was rude to both myself and my fiancee once they had the camera, with the exception of the younger guy with the beard, who is really the only person there I would even consider speaking with if I cant figure out a way to fix the remaining problems with this camera.If you can go somewhere else, do yourself a favor and do so. If you absolutely must go to San Jose Camera & Video for some reason, shun everyone working there except the younger guy with the dark hair and beard; hes the only reason they got better than the minimum for service.

I love going to San Jose Camera and Video, I have been a customer for about 8 years. One year ago I got my full frame camera there. I thought about buying it online, but there is something special about actually touching and playing with the camera before I make a decision, so I decided to go to the store. I was not disappointed at all. I knew what I wanted, but Jim helped me understand my decision even more. He devoted his time and attention to my purchase. I just went back this week to get a flash, and I dont understand the disatisfaction of others. I had to wait a couple of times in order to make a purchase, but the wait is so worth it. I have gone there looking for weird and outdated items sometimes and if they dont have what I am looking for, they always have a suggestion that would help.

Almost exclusively a Canon/Nikon store, which is totally expected, but still a bit of a bummer. The staff was friendly enough in telling me they didnt have what I was looking for. Nice to have a local camera store anyway, much better selection than a big box store.
