After visiting a Kinokuniya in Seattle over the summer, I was ECSTATIC to learn that there were two locations in the metroplex. Out of the two, this one is far bigger with a great selection of manga, anime merch, gifts, and Japanese stationary, pencils, and pens. The atmosphere of the store is laid back and cozy, and I spent quite some time just looking through all the goods that they have. Its a wonderful place to buy some goods for yourself, get high quality stationary, and get gifts for your friends.P.S. - As Im sure you can already tell, this isnt your ordinary bookstore. The few books for sale are almost all in Japanese. The rest of the books are manga and artbooks, some in Japanese, some in English. Dont come here expecting history books and Agatha Christie. :)
This japanese-inspired bookstore and stationery Depot has many sought after manga and small caliber writing tools. Also a few art supplies. Collectibles and wearable merch from your favorite Japanese characters also available. I have an enjoyable time whenever I stop at the store. My only suggestion is that the employees be more attentive to the customers. The women have always been friendly and helpful in the past but some of the younger guys seem to be more interested in their own conversations than helping the customers. It only happened one time, but it was a visit where was looking for an ended up buying multiple items and the employee in question seemed too busy to help, and or gave me short answers instead of helping me thoroughly. Otherwise, looking forward to shopping there again!I bought my son a cool pair of socks and a t- shirt for his birthday. If I get a chance I will update with the pictures.* pictured in this review are items from my last couple of visits: a Japanese wall Banner, a couple of posters, some grid-style notebooks for practicing kanji characters, a book binder/pen holder, and a gel pen. Practicing kanji can be difficult when you use average pens with a large diameter size.I love the fact that they carry .05, .04, .03, (and .25?) size gel pens, and in a large variety of colors. These are great options when you are drawing kanji characters with multiple elements in them in a very small space.
Loved it here! This place had cute trinkets and manga books in both Japanese and English! And its not very crowded here! Great place, would recommend!
Great selection of stationary and pens and wonderful atmosphere to browse manga titles for the collectors and readers alike!
The staff was kind, the variety was wide enough, cool atmosphere my sister loved it. Had figures I didnt know were available. I would definitely recommend and come back to.
I love swinging by here for a taste of Japanese culture. Made my girlfriend very happy finding a volume of a manga she loves, thank you guys! 😎
Amazing places with tons of options of hard to find books and figures. Constantly keeping up with new releases. Crowded on weekends but a great place to look around and buy some gifts or toys.
Amazing store and vibe make sure to go during weekdays less people and more items stocked
Love this place so much! Staff are very helpful and friendly. It gets packed so expect to smell some weeb musk but its all good.
My sister has been telling me about this place, and finally I was able to come visit. They definitely have alot of variety things, from books, toys for children, collective items, wall clocks, and so much more. Items are a bit pricey, but the pricing makes sense considering the items being imported. We mainly came here for these unique charms for your cell phone. Definitely worth the time to go in and browse. There is something for everyone. We will definitely be returning back.
I absolutely love this place. It may be a bit expensive, but I never have to wonder whether the issue of manga I am getting is going to be tattered up or has been read by a million people since they are sealed up.10/10 recommend.
We come every few months and make it a day trip. Love this place!!
Wide selection of Korean and Japanese books, manga, magazines, novelties, gifts, writing tools, art work, and more. They have English works here too, not all Korean or Japanese. They fill up quickly to capacity so be sure to come early or expect a line at busy times. Having lots of goods, and near cafes and restaurants they do not allow food or drinks inside. They play soft Japanese and Korean music in the store, its quite nice. 5 ☆!
This place can feel just about any of your anime needs check them out and enjoy some of the lovely restaurants and its surrounding area
I love every time I come here! If you ever plan on spending money here you absolutely should get the membership. It’s $25/year but it gives you %10 off everything (excluding sale items but they don’t usually have those) and for every $300 you spend you get a $10 gift card.
Absolutely love coming to this location. I always find something amazing. Its sometimes crowded depending on the time of day but for the most part its a very fun place to go. Highly recommend going.
By far my favorite store, I stop by here every chance I get to pick up more manga for my collection, bought blue period and 5 - 8 of fire force. If they dont have what you need in store its very easy to find it on there online store, thats where I found the rest of chainsaw man minus 2 - 4.They also carry other stuff like plushies, collectibles, movies, and more!
I absolutely love the place! I always go here to get my art supplies and manga. If you ever wonder what best store that sells figures, manga, keychains in a great condition, I REALLY recommend this store :D!
There are a lot of cool and interesting things to look at other than books. Its kind of like a novelty / gift shop too.
What an amazing and unique bookstore. My friend brought me here after a study date to check out the trinkets at this shop. Tons of obscure, cute little things that would be hard to find anywhere else. As an early birthday gift, my friend bought me a tarot deck they had that had imprinted art about fairy tales and folklore from all over the world. They had these gorgeous vintage puzzles and one of a kind birthday/anniversary/thank you cards with all kinds of artwork. Theres everything from zodiac necklaces, sushi socks, and kitschy stickers to choose from. If you like to draw or sketch, they have an enormous amount of ink and sketchbooks to browse over. Great place to find stuff for unique gift ideas or just to add to your collection of obscurities.
This store is amazing. Its more a manga store but there are light novels as well. I need one of these in Wisconsin.
A gem when it comes to fans that enjoy anime, manga and other small souvenirs of their characters. Plenty of options to choose from and theyve got everything from plushies to the actual manga.Really cool to walk around and look for your favorite anime or manga souvenirs.
It is a good place to get anime/manga. Huge selection. They have many in Japanese as well. If you like figures they have those as well and plushies too. One of my favorite places to go to in Carrollton.
Prices are a little steep as one may expect with such a company, but I suppose they’ve earned that right as the area’s best stationery/pen store.
Such a cool place. Great manga selection with country specific items. Go on a weekday, weekend are packed
I used to love coming here for their blind box selection, especially the Popmart figures, but these days every time I go in its the same selection over and over again or maybe just 1 new thing. They significantly cut it in half!I remember they used to have atleast 2 large tables, now just 1 small one in front of the store..They DO have a ton of Manga, and stationary. But their plush and figures have dwindled as well. So I dont see myself coming here as much in the future.
Great place for manga and light novels Plus other Asian related items
Love the polite people here, questions are asked and answered, things are bought, so nice. I go here for the pens section, so many nice options and journal options. Give it a look, try not to buy, literally, everything.
A lot of anime/manga/video game goods. With peace and love, its a weeb paradise. I was admittedly hoping for an area with current Japanese magazines and books like the other ones Ive been to, though. Maybe I missed it, but even then, it was obviously not the focal point for this location.
This place is like heaven for me, Ive only had the honor of venturing there once and I plan on going again but everything here screams buy me! To me atleast, I really love the variety of items they have. As you can tell I was fixated on the stuffed animals from my photos but they also have some really nice figures here as well and a lot of Miku (vocaloid) stuff which surprised me.
The manga selection is fantastic, and the store is teeming with tempting anime merch, interesting books, and wonderful stationery. The staff are always wonderful too!
This chain offers offers more than books. Specialty gift items, art and print and writing supplies. Calligraphy supplies and items for drawing, including assorted papers. A vast variety of Manga books, anime books and films and themed items.
This is the best place for anime fans, manga readers, otaku peeps, and anyone who loves all things kawaii. The selection of products is vast. Art books, POP Funkos, manga in English and Japanese, plushies, cutesy LED lights and lamps, stationery, puzzles, so much I cant list it all. Stop by this shop sometime!
Great Japanese book shop. You won’t find a whole lot of anime merch, but they do have plenty of manga.
Not really my cup of tea. A lot of manga and anime is available. They have a good array of art supplies, also.
Best store EVER!! I love the stationary section the most, but I also love the manga section!! Definitely recommend visiting this store and make sure to take your time because you never know what small trinket or book may catch your eye! I love this place!! (◍•ᴗ•◍)❤
Expensive but nice things to look at and enjoy. Wish I could get here when they are open more often. First time I was able to be near them while they were open.
Really fun store lots or cute stationary items and anime stuff too.
Great place has such a big variety of items definitely worth a stop when in this area
They have an amazing range of items but the prices are a little outrageous.
AWESOME place to walk around.
First time at this location! everything was pretty well organized and staff was kind (:
All things Japanese! They have manga in both English and Japanese. They have posters and wall scrolls. They sell Japanese Magazines, Language books, and artbooks. They have a huge selection of stationary! The notebooks are very good quality and wont fall apart. They even sell hanko stamps for signatures. They have lots of plush toys that are super cute!
Love the variety of English and japanese manga and other literature available!
The bookstore is always a great place to go, although it does get crowded at times, due to the very small size. the last time i went, it was very overwhelming and i had to get out as soon as i can. however, i always love stopping by, getting a few pens and journals, and looking to see what new merch they have!
I love this book store. Great selection on Manga
This giftstore is amazing! A go-to place when you have to get a unique holiday / birthday card. And a few gift things I bought I was surprised to see were priced a tad bit better than anywhere online. Great selection of pens you can test out before buying, a whole spindle packed full of Paperblanks notebooks, tons of different notebooks. You can spend all afternoon in this store
I wonder if you have any snoopy items?
Neat place my kid likes to go to... There book and anime section is really interesting, albeit I never get anything.
Japanese fare and trinkets. This place is an anime food nerds paradise.
Has a vast amount number of manga I saw mostly all the manga that has already come out in anime and some hidden gems as well and for the mini games there quite fun would 100% recommend trying it out and the best part is there near by Korean restaurants that are just wonderful
Great selection of books and memorabilia. Bought a Giyu statue at a very fair price.
Great staff. Has a great selection to choose from like manga in both English and Japanese. Also grateful store for crafts and language learning. Staff is always helpful. Definetly recommend going there 10 out of 10.
Total: $40.00Purchased: NotebookWe have been here multiple times but have only purchased items one time. This place has everything you can imagine in a Japanese bookstore: books, notebooks, manga, pens, and anime merchandise.Would we return? Absolutely! We enjoy shopping here, even if we dont purchase anything. The environment here is very nice. Its clean and in a great location. Kinokuniya Bookstore had everything we were looking for and more. This bookstore had mangas in English and Japanese, a variety of notebooks and pens, and plentiful merchandise from different anime. The customer service was superb. We were unable to find a particular manga, so the staff assisted us. She didnt complain nor did she look annoyed--I wish I had written her name down to talk about her excellent customer service skills. If youre reading this, you helped me find for Re: Zero manga!Kinokuniya Bookstore is not cheap. From pens to notebooks to plushies, all are expensive; however, I believe its worth it. The quality of their products is superb. Their notebooks feel great and are nice to write in. There are pens for you to test whether you like how it writes. It is a great physical place to purchase items from.Parking is mediocre. Because the parking lot is huge, there is a good amount of parking spaces; however, during the weekend, it will be difficult to find a parking spot because it gets crowded.Even though Kinokuniya Bookstore is an expensive place to shop, it sells quality products. You can find yourself spending about an hour here, easy. If you are looking for great pens (Muji, etc.), notebooks, or anime merchandise, visit Kinokuniya Bookstore. You wont be disappointed.
Very nice book store. They had lots of manga & trendy merchandise
This place is such a gem. Into manga? Got you covered. Into fountain pens, inks, and stationary? Got you covered. Into cool random Japanese things? Covered.Go check it out!
Both weeaboos and normal people can have a field day here. There are all sorts of books, stationery, decor, art supplies, anime/manga, cute stuff, and more. Have fun!
I love the selection for stationery, stickers and journals. The items are all unique. The only con was the place was crowded.
This is one of my favorite shops in Carrollton. I mostly come in here because Im a big paper nerd and love pens but I often find that when I walk in for one thing I spend far too much time looking at all of the other cool stuff they have.10/10 will probably give them all my money.
Amazing but also as a detail right now cause of corona the dont take cash
Fantastic selection of manga, anime-related collectibles and fun items. Prices are a bit high, but there is such a large variety of fun items.
A bit over priced, but such a neat collection of books and tchotchkes for sale.
Im not into anime really, I was there with a friend, but people who are, the store seemed to have a lot for you. I did find a cute shark plush so thats a plus.
This place has a lot anime stuff and it feels like Japan haha
Awesome bookstore for manga and other novelty items.
This bookstore is always clean and absolutely friendly. There is a combination of manga/light novels and japanese reference books such as cooking art and living. The rest of the store is classy nic-nacs and art supplies. Either way its a great store you have to check out!
They sell really cute things like stationary, candles, books etc. If you like anime then this is for you!
Ive been wanting to go to this store for a long time and finally got to go. They definitely have a variety of items; from books, toys, collective items, wall clocks, and so much more. Items are a bit pricey compared to stores like Daiso but they have more options. Definitely worth going in to browse. You can grab some snacks from the crepe place next door or the bakery nearby.
Wonderful books and gift store with an amazing selection. Especially like their inventory of writing instruments ❤
Nice place, usually have what I need.
So fun to browse and hard to walk out of here empty handed.
Loved the variety of Manga!
Great for japanese books and manga. They have stuff in english too and a great stationary section.
Great overall experience.
Super crowded which was anxiety inducing due to covid-19, but love the selection of merchandise. Parking is crazy so be prepared for crowds like Christmas Eve at the mall!
Nice place for novelty items and to get your pen and anime fix
This is such a fun little store! so much anime and manga merchandise its like a dream. theres also a bunch of other cute little things. its so fun to go in there and look at everything.
So many cool items and books! This is the kind of place you can come back to again and again and always see something new you didnt notice before.
I was so excited when I saw their coming soon sign the first time! A Books Kinokuniya right here in the Dallas area! And its entirely lived up to my expectations. Theyre by far the best (and only?) place to get Japanese books, with great selections of the classics as well as contemporary Japanese literature. Theyve also got English books (and bilingual ones) on a huge variety of interesting topics--Im certain anyone could find something interesting to look through here.Besides books, it has very cute stationary and miscellaneous items of all sorts--probably a great place to find gifts. My only gripe would be how overpriced all the childrens books seem to be in comparison to the paperbacks section.
Awesome store to check out. They have great items for sale. A little bit pricey in my opinion but I can understand why. They have cool and unique items.
Awesome selection of books, picked up genki 1 and 2 to learn Japanese.
Great store for imported anime related art books but its a bit hard to find anything. You just sort of find things.
Fast efficient service lots of amazing products for all anime fandoms as well as books about Japanese culture and language with fun trinkets games action figures and toys they even have cards and kitchenware
A little bit pricey but they have all kinds of books, both in English and Japanese. Lots of cute stationary, trinkets and anime figures, keychains.
Bunch of cute Japanese stationary and books. Keep ur wallet tight, you may want to buy everything u see.
If you love anything japanese, you can always find them at kinokuniya!
Its OK depending on what your looking for. My 16yr old didnt find much and hes a huge anime fan
