Had transmission rebuilt for my old nissan truck. The work was done quickly and for a pretty good price. John offered to check the fluid level and double check for any leaks if I stop back by in a few weeks just to make sure everything is perfect. Very nice staff. Would certainly go here again.

Holts is a joke! Jeff was Very rude to me and John was nice in the beginning but got rude after the fact. They did transmission work for me and left parts that were on my car in the beginning off and put the old transmission in the trunk of my car and got oil everywhere! When I called and confronted them about it they were very rude and nasty to me. I will be seeking a lawyers help him o get my money back.

Absolute NIGHTMARE!I would NEVER recommend these guys to my worst enemy. First of all, they had my car for 45 days. It was one thing after another that they couldnt repair. On top of that, they never called me. I always had to call them. I picked up the car 3 different times and each time the car was not fixed properly. They charged me $4500 for the repairs and wouldnt even give me a 2 year warranty, because it was an extra charge. I could seriously go on and on but I have already wasted too much of my life on these guys. I would NEVER EVER EVER take your car to these people. All they do is over promise and under deliver. When I first dropped my car off on a Tuesday, they told me it would be ready by that Friday.... 40 days later I was able to pick it up and its still not right! I am still trying to get it fixed and now I am most likely going to have to sell it because its just not worth the risk of being stranded somewhere. It wouldnt trust these guys under your hood. Period.. Overpriced and unreliable.

I went to them as a local person sharing the money around town they did a bench job for on my work truck so I told them to upgrade the parts that I specified in for heavy duty towing. I received my transmission back installed it an noticed my dipstick could not get flush inside the tube no biggie at this point drove an it seemed to be as if it was never fixed long story short all part was old took it toa different location an still the run around had to get rental for 2 weeks with no answer from owners. 1600 down the drain thanks a lot holt

I brought my car in for an estimate and John was extremely friendly and he fit me in after a few hours. He was clear, concise, and extremely honest with everything that needed to be fixed on the car. Since the car is 21 years old, I elected not put the money into the car and did not charge me for the estimate.I would go back to him in a heartbeat if I needed any work done based on his honesty.

All I ever have owned is used cars and have worked on them and had enough engines and transmissions let go (fail, die, go kaput) that I know many of the warning signs. But some 5-6 year ago my daughter, granddaughter and I piled in the old Buick and took off to Folly Beach for a long weekend, this car showed NO SIGNS of a problem. Drove into Charleston and was at a RED light on Folly Beach Rd and when the light turned Green hit the gas and the transmission went ZZZZZZsssss and the car went no where. Knew immediately the transmission (failed, died, went kaput). Thank goodness my son in-law and his father were driving down in another car and came a helped to push it off the road. I had to make a quick decision and had it towed to HOLT Transmissions . I have to give those folks a THUMBS UP rebuilt the transmission and a couple of days and I still drive this car daily.

Installed aftermarket clutch, master cylinder, and slave cylinder on my Nissan 350Z. The job required removal of a portion of the exhaust and the entire transmission. As requested, I received all the old and used parts back. Great team to work with. Owner gave me and another customer a ride home after dropping off our vehicles.

Manager took such great care of me. Instead of charging me because I know little about cars he explained the problem and how it was a simple fix. He fixed it and didnt even charge me a service fee. So nice during this time to have great local places taking care of their customers

I have a 1996 Vw Euro camper. They are known to have trans problem but Holts Transmission took care of me in 5 day at a very fair price it works like a dream. Thanks John and Jeff and that great transmission builder.

Great experience with this location. John, the manager, was very communicative and knowledgeable. He took the time to explain to me everything that was going on with my transmission. He came in early one morning so that I could drop my jeep off before work. My jeep was in and out in 2 days. I would definitely recommend this company.

Well my 4 month journey just ended from dealing with holt transmission. I took my truck into the west Ashley store and met John. I noticed a very slight slip in my transmission. John took it on a drive came back and said they needed to take it apart and it needed to be rebuilt. Depending on parts it would be between $2500 and $3500. Next day phone call $5100. Everything needed fixed. So we paid them and it took 3 days. I got it back and immediately noticed way harder slips in different gears. Was told that my transmission needed to relearn and it would fix its self. Give it a month. Ok 2 months later now its still slipping really really bad and hard. We are very upset. Take it back and they have it for a week. Calls me up hey its fixed runs great. Puck it up it is still doing same thing. John tells me there is nothing wrong with it. So now I try to find owner info. I get directed to go to north Charleston location. Take it there they totally agree with me and fix it officially. Moral of story. Do not go to West Ashley, stay away from John! Go to North Charleston they are awesome and will truly help you.

Lies. They didnt get my money. I was told the transmission fluid was black as the ace of spades, bubbled, burnt and had debris in itHe also said that he had only checked the fluid and hadnt done anything else to it. I would like to know how he drew the conclusion I needed a rebuild without even dropping the pan and filter to inspect the pan/magnet and its innards.I had previously checked the fluid and indeed looked again after I got home and no such contrivance existed. The fluid was bright pink with only a hint of darkening and no bubbling or debris to speak of. Lies.

Don’t even think of using this company! My experience was horrible. Took my Ford Explorer to them in 2016 and paid $3,400 for repair. In 2018 took it back for again (thinking they might fix it free) but had to pay another $2,500 for repair since their 1 yr. Warrenty had expired.In 2020 the transmission failed again. Took it back and was told their 1 yr. Warrenty has expired but since this was the third time it had broken, they would fix it at a “bargain rate” of $4,300. I said no thanks. They put the disassembled transmission in the trunk of my car and I had it towed to Ravenel where Pat’s Transmission fixed it for $3,400.Holt’s always use the oldest trick in the book, saying “We charge $395 to diagnose the problem-but that cost will go towards the repair if you use us.”You’ve just been hooked, folks! Beware!

I am from out of town and had to make a quick decision to leave my vehicle overnight, on a Sunday (which Holt Trans. is closed). I called as soon as they opened the next day and was immediately greeted by Frankie, who was eager to help. He was able to squeeze me in his already busy Monday morning. By lunch time he called with me diagnostic results. He not only informed me of what was going on in a way that I could understand (as I am no mechanic), but also gave me the specific codes that appeared on the diagnostic results. He then encouraged me contact the dealership to see if these particular issues were covered under my warranty. I thought this was such a nice gesture, that he did not have to do.As I was waiting to hear back from the dealership, Frankie continued to research and run reports regarding the issues. Turns out...it was my clutch, which is supposedly covered under my warranty (but I wont know until the dealership runs THEIR diagnostic test...boooo).All that being said, Frankie also let me know that if the dealership ran their diagnostic test and found results that are not covered under my warranty, to call him back, and that he would be happy to perform the services we originally talked about, pay for my towing BACK to Holt Trans. and include the fee that I had already paid in the service that he would perform.IF THAT ISNT GOOD SERVICE, I DONT KNOW WHAT IS!

Not only are the guys at Holts Polite, Personable and Very Knowledgeable. They also got our vans Transmission rebuilt and back on the road in a day and a half. It runs wonderfully now. Not to mention the cost of the work was very reasonable. I will be Recommending Holts Transmission Service and Auto Repairs to all my friends and Family........ Just wish i could give them better than a five star rating, because in my eyes they deserve it.

Before a big holiday trip the transmission on my car needed to have work done. I am glad I found out about Holts! You are going to walk in and be greeted by Gary and know you are in good hands. My car is driving like new. It took on the road trip with no issue. Holts has worked on both our cars now and we are very pleased. Gary who manages the location is going to be honest with you and go through your options. I went to Holt because the transmission in my F-150 was jerking at 45 MPH. I spent over $2000 with a one year guarantee. I made multiple trips within that year because it still wasnt working correctly. If I tried to merge quickly on the highway, it would stall and the transmission light came on. I was told that my truck needed a tune up and that is what was causing the transmission problem. My truck has had a tune up and it still jerks. I feel like I was lied to and taken advantage of. I would not recommend Holt Transmission service to anyone, unless you dont mind being ripped off. Im reminded every time I drive my truck (daily) what a lousy job I received from Holt.

I had a problem with a hose that ruined my transmission and radiator. Gary was great. Fixed in a timely manner and the price was good. Went for a test drive and came back in the garage and a mechanic heard something that did not seem right. Put it back on the rack and something wasnt correct. Many people may have been mad, but I thought this was great that the mechanic heard something that did not sound right. Fixed it! One year warranty. I highly recommend using them as will in the future even if I have to go out of way to get there. Great knowledge and service!Craig

Anyone can fix a car... but few can take care of customers.Gary and the staff at Holt Transmission know exactly what customer service is, they understand that even with the best of intentions, things go wrong, and most importantly they know how to own up and fix the issue.I delivered them a Jeep with a 100% torn up Automatic Transmission. Gary had the foresight to talk with me and recommend that I could benefit from upgrading some of the parts to HD parts, a transmission cooler and while they were in the Jeep, changing out my rear main seal. (They notoriously leak)Everything Gary recommended was spot on, because I had in mind to ask for everything he suggested even before I arrived.Truth be told I had an issue with my repair, a noise that made me concerned. Gary went out of the way to pick up my Jeep from work, and deliver it to my home after hours when the repair was done.The issue turned out to be a simple adjustment but he treated it like it was very important.If you want assurance that your care will be repaired the right way and if something goes wrong, that the shop will stand behind the work and make it right..... then go to HOLT...

Biggest rip off I’ve ever experienced while dealing with my vehicle. Came to Holt Transmission with misfire issue in the engine. Not having much experience in car mechanics and not living here in Charleston very long I gave this place a shot. Frankie the general manager was very kind and helpful at face value and got back to me very quickly with a possible solution. New spark plugs and new coil packs. Okay Frankie, I assume we’re going to change all four, but what does one set cost? $102 per coil pack and $32 per spark plug. Okay that seems expensive, but are OEM certified parts? Oh yeah they. Okay I guess we’ll do it then. Come to find out after totaling $700 dollar bill that all the parts are aftermarket and virtually the most expensive ones you can get. All the charm and helpfulness is all for naught if in the end you’re just going to lie and scam. Will never be bringing my business back here

Their GM, Frankie, has always been easy to work with and is extremely knowledgeable and informative. Their prices have always been reasonable and their turnaround time was sooner than expected. I was absolutely impressed by the quality of work and craftsmanship that the Holt Transmission West Ashley team has. Ive taken my old car over to them three times. The first time, they fixed my clutch, the second time, they repaired my engine and this time, it was a power steering leak. I took the car to Pep Boys originally, because Holt isnt open on the weekends, and I thought the leak was worse than it was. After getting the price for the hose ($33.00), Pep Boys wanted to charge me $116.00/hr for labor. I got the part from them, and took the car over to Holt and prepaid for the services, in case I needed to pick the car up after they were closed. After getting the car on the lift, I was informed that there were actually leaks in TWO hoses (glad I paid $40.00 at Pep Boys for them to diagnose the problem incorrectly), and that the part I ordered was incorrect (this was after I called and double checked, because after looking into the part I found out there were two hoses and needed to make sure that was the proper one) and they would need to repair both. I explained that I needed my car ASAP, so if the parts needed to be ordered, Id pick it up and they could do the repair after the parts came in. They assured me that I could pick the car up the next day and talked to them at noon the next day to get a status. They were working on it, and it was ready to go by 3:00. When I arrived, I COMPLETELY expected to pay more, since they fixed two hoses instead of one and had to get different parts; he didnt charge me a penny more than I had already paid and handed me my keys. To quote my father, who was helping me along the way (who is also a mechanic, but in a different state), youve got a good mechanic. I couldnt agree more.

My boyfriend had his transmission rebuilt over a month ago. Hes about to go back for the third time to get it fixed because every time something else is wrong with the transmission since it was fixed. Im not sure how this place has such high ratings. It must be padded with friends and family because hes had horrible service from Holt. They have offered no concessions for his loss of time and use of his vehicle.The first time he had to take it back they said they would drop him off to work if he dropped his truck off at their Rivers Avenue shop and they didnt follow through with their word. He ended up walking to work! The second time he took it back, the truck was leaking transmission fluid. This time, number three, the truck isnt shifting right again.Its time to contact the BBB and small claims court! This is unacceptable.

I took my 2006 Ford F250 truck to Holt Transmission due to rough shifting.Honestly, I am very skeptical of transmission shops. I once had a dealer quote me $2000 for a transmission that another shop fixed for $3. Yes - three dollars. So, my basic mindset is that transmission shops are a rip off. You have no real idea what they are doing or if their quote is a big fat lie. And you never seem to get out of their shop for much less that a couple of grand.Jeff Holt, the owner, personally greeted me as I entered the shop. From start to finish the work was professional and timely. The manager, Gary, kept me informed along the way and gave me a full run down of the charges. He sought my authorization before spending my money. The job was done in a couple of days.Still, I was skeptical. What was I getting for all this money? How could I know that it didnt just need a fluid change or some minor adjustment? Maybe I should have looked for a cheaper option on the internet. I mean, everyone knows that these guys are just a bunch of crooks, right?Well the proof is in the pudding. I paid the bill with a heavy heart and and now empty wallet drove out of the shop. I could not believe that I was driving the same truck that I had had for 10 years. The transmission was so smooth that I thought that I was in a new car, not a 10 year old work truck. This is a 4 x 4. I switched to four wheel drive. Then back. No clunk. Just smooth. I had plowed snow up north in this truck and it had worked hard on a farm. I had towed trailers and heavy boats for many years. This was not a commuter truck to some shiny office in the city. It had been around the houses. I could hardly believe it. I could not have been more pleased. All thoughts of the cost went out of my mind. I knew instantly that I had received good value. I could not help myself but call the owner and tell him how pleased I was.I will be back in a couple of weeks for the free check up and in 12 months for the free service. It feels good to know that I have a 2 year, 24000 mile warranty. I know where I will be going if I ever need transmission service again for any vehicle.Now if they have just included a new set of tires that it needs I would be really happy!

Ive been my old Jeep to Holt for 4 years now. They have always backed up their work and fixed things stay fixed.

On Dec. 10, 2015 after a shopping trip when i arrived at home I found that I had no reverse gear after checking everything I knew. I was advised to take my car to Holt Transmission because they were good and very reasonable. Which I did with Mr Holt the owner and explained the my problem to him, as he was writing me up. Met with Gary the manager was told that we would call me later on what was needed to fix the problem. I got a call about an hour later everything was explained and that I would receive and estimate the next day. After I got the estimate the go ahead was given. He said that car would be ready the next day. On Friday my car was ready shortly after lunch. I was very happy with the results and Gary was very helpful. Will recommand them to anyone that needs auto repair.

Ive used holt for three problems with my car. One being my transmission which they fixed in a timely manner and at a good price. The second time that my car had an issue was a loose wire soon after I had the transmission fixed. They didnt even charge me for it and had it fixed by the next day. Lastly, they replaced my alternator which was ready the next day after I dropped my car off. I would 100% recommend Holt. Gary knows what hes talking about with cars and does not try to rip you off like other commercial mechanics often do. He gives you good advice and tells you whether the repair is worth it or not.

Holt Transission worked on my husbands car last month and we were really happy with the quality of the service and the dedication to treating customers fairly. Rather than encouraging us to just replace the entire transmission as the dealer did, the guys at Holt worked diligently to find the root of the problem and come up with a much less expensive but effective fix. Its been a little over a month and no issues with their work so far.

Had such a great experience at Holt Transmission. Last week my car over heated a few miles away so I took to the closest place, Holt Transmission. I was greating by a friendly, reassuring gentleman. I ended up needed a new radiator! They were able to diagnose and fix the car within the same day. They even had an employee drive my fiancé and I home so we didn’t have to pay for an Uber while they worked on the car. They definitely went the extra mile!

Untrustworthy. They did one task and got it right (which was swapping out my transmission and radiator) but seemed to have screwed everything else up. The job was slack..bolts were missing, blowin air bag suspensions and my rear main seal was leaking oil. All of which WAS not wrong with the car when I brought it to them. When I confronted them about the damage they all blamed each other. I dont recommend. In fact they only have 2 stars cause its still running. Beware.

After months of poor advisement from other repair shops, the experts at Holts Transmisssion here were able to pin-point the problem that I had at its source and resolve in a VERY price efficient and timely manner!!! They were also easy to get along with. Cant ask for anything better! THANX A BUNCH!!!

I was referred to Holts Transmission and another place. I first tried calling the other place and couldnt get anyone. I finally called Holts Transmission after several attempts to the other place. They picked up and was able to see my car the very next morning. I cant wait until the job is finished.

My cars transmission started acting up so I decided to contact Holt Transmission. over the phone I was told my vehicle would typically cost 1500-1800 to repair but they wouldnt be able to tell me until the vehicle was taken apart. After taking my car apart I then received a phone call stating total cost of repair would be 3400 which is double what I was expecting. After telling them I couldnt pay that much for the repair I was then told I had to pay 1300 for the inspection of the car and to get it back in a torn down condition. If theyre charging me 1300 to tear it down how were they going to fix it within the original estimated price?!? Needless to say I was sucked in by low prices and forced to pay high dollar to get my car back on the road.

These guys are awesome ! Went there for some clutch work and they were prompt and knowledgeable and best priced.Definitely recommend.

Wanted to charge me $1,000 because they said the diagnostic was a bad computer chip in the motor and that is why my speedometer was not working told them dont fix it took the truck to Geralds in Summerville Geralds fix the problem for $60 parts and labor do not trust Holt Transmission in Summerville

They fixed my car in a timely manner, I brought it in on a last minute appointment on my way out of town with broken A/C and they gave me a Freon charge for free.
