Love this place! They make the best pastries and chocolates. The macarons are amazing, and the french donuts . . . out of this world! You HAVE to try the french donuts. Great coffee, too
An absolute to-do in Charleston. Very high recommendation. Everything in the shop is a delight.
Weve had their pastries, macarons, and chocolates. Everything has been excellent. Very reasonably priced for the artistry of their chocolates.
Perfect place for when you want a light bite to eat and coffee. The almond croissant is always a winner (and NEVER dry). The other pastries, macarons, and chocolates dont disappoint either.Shaded patio seating around back through the alleyway! If you want to eat like a real Charlestonian, go here! :)
Ive lived in Charleston 8 years and had always walked right by this spot, now Im here a few times a week. I dont usually eat much sugar or flour, but this is worth an occasional guilty pleasure.Great staff, great coffee, great pastries, simple sandwiches, and fantastic chocolateThis is well worth a visit!!BTW, love that you still are enforcing face masks!
This place was truly fantastic. Wonderful smells of coffee and pastry immediately hit you as you walk through the door. The staff was awesome and extremely friendly and polite. Great ending to a day in downtown Charleston for us.
Best sandwiches and dessert, love their coffee too, whish I could come everyday
Hidden gem if you love French press coffee and fresh pastries. The almond croissant and French donut are flaky and filled with fabulous custards. The eclair was also a perfect blend of chocolate topping, creamy custard, all in/on perfectly soft eclair
Love the quality, taste, selection, professionalism and attention to detail that Christophe is known for. Great local business and lovely owners!!!
Monkey bread and almond croissant were perfect for a small picnic/walking respite under a nearby Magnolia tree. Beautiful location. Helpful staff. Amazing pastries. True craftsmanship.
A gem! Great chocolates and very nice staff!
This place was filled with wonderful chocolate. The store had chocolates, bars, and a variety of delicious cakes and desserts.
We happened upon this place on our trip and it was so delicious, we stopped back by before we left. Cute place, friendly staff and so many delicious treats!
So I think people who rated this any lower than 5 stars are crazy. The French Donut was the most delicious thing I have eaten in a LONG time. The chocolates were smooth and consistent. They mirrored some of the delicious chocolates I tried in France. The truffles were magical.I found one of my “must return” places for Charleston.
Disappointed that even 5 days after Valentines day they still hadnt restocked on their macaroons. Which was the excuse the girl gave me when I asked why they had only a handful of their flavors available. Curious as to why they didnt make things fresh everyday?? (I worked in a bakery for 3 years. We made things EVERYDAY, especially in a tourist town) The salesperson was very nice, but when you advertise a list of flavors, and only have 6 or 7 to choose from, its a let down. Chocolate flavor was good, did not care for the strawberry or lemon, which is usually my favorite.
I love the shoppe but the employee could not have been more rude. If I go back I will go to the one in West Ashley. Much friendlier there & way more helpful. Too bad because I really liked shopping in that location too. Please hire an employee with some customer service skills. Much needed!
The staff is always great and very helpful. It is without a doubt the place to go in Charleston for all of your decedent chocolate delights.Fine artesianship and care go into their treats
Wonderful find off the beaten path. Just followed a sign off of King Street. The almond croissants were amazing, as was a pistachio (cherry?) tart. I wish I bought more!
Almond croissant and cherry tart were both delicious. Cute place.
We have loved this place for so many years! Everything tastes as good as it looks-- the iced drinking chocolate is a must have. Make sure to stop here is you are visiting CHS!
Chocolates are amazing! Been coming here for years. But they’ve reduced the size of each candy. They’re too small. Very disappointed.
I have been here twice now and have loved it both times. The chocolate croissants are the best I’ve ever had. The coffee is also amazing. Highly recommend coming here!
They have the best French baguettes!! We also had the chocolate and almond croissants. Everything was fresh and the prices were very good. Actually the cheapest around for pastries.
Wonderful pastries and chocolates. And deliciously full, smooth, and incredibly well-priced french press coffee.
Good coffee! Cute outdoor patio in the back!

What a pleasure to taste those chocolates, almond tuiles and macarons. My wife and I discovered this place randomly and have been coming back each day of our stay in Charleston. I amFrench and have lived 12y in NYC and it is as good as I have found in the US. Well worth the trip there!
French DonutThere isnt really much more that needs saying but just in case. Coffee was good, the earl grey macron was delightful and the chocolates were beautiful.
Try the berry tartlets and the almond croissants. So good.
I am obsessed with this place!! Their creations are so beautiful and taste heavenly. The staff is also so welcoming and kind.
OMG! A place Not to be missed!
Was once our favorite shops but i wont go back now. They wouldnt except cash and barked at me about a mask. My wife loves your stuff but Ill go somewhere else where my cash is good.
I custom ordered macaroons for my WEDDING in my colors: pastel pink, french blue, and lavender (all pastel shades). The morning of my wedding my coordinator picked up the order and they were ORANGE, TEAL, and a darker pinkish brown color. I even custom ordered my flavors and had to get a set minimum ordered. I sent color swatches as requested. I did everything via email. Last minute someone else emailed me to say they were taking over the order and wanted to confirm my colors and I did. When we asked to correct this we were told no and that the chef told me in person the colors dont always come out to match. I NEVER spoke to a chef in person as it was all over email.... so that was a lie. They also wouldnt fix the order and were extremely rude on my wedding day! How is ORANGE the same as LAVENDER PURPLE? It even said the colors on the box invoice!! WORST PEOPLE TO DEAL WITH AND LIE, WILL NOT RETURN, DONT USE THEM FOR YOUR WEDDING OR EVER ORDER CUSTOM COLORS as they are color blind. Thank goodness for the macaroon boutique who saved the day!
Great chocolates and macarons!
Practices safe social distancing. Keep up the good work. :)
Didnt like the drink very much and couldnt add sweetner or anything to it, however the pastries and macaroons were very good. I wish the atmosphere was more relaxed and that I had time to heat up the pastry and add sweetener but was unable to do so as the place filled up so quickly.
Love this place. Worth a trip. When I am in town I always stop for a pastry or chocolate. The coffee drink with chocolate is wonderful, I always get it iced. So refreshing on a hot Charleston day.
Great chocolates and pastries. Very friendly staff. Nice patio for a relaxing French pressed coffee break. Prices are very good also. This is a MUST stop for tourists & locals!
My husband bought me a sleeve of 7 chocolates for my birthday and they were amazing. Not only was each one delicious, they were beautifully decorated! The staff was super nice, as well. I cant wait to go back to try the macaroons.
When I literally found this stand alone little building it was like serendipity. I have had many good hot chocolate drinks in my country of origin, Spain throughout my life, but Christophes is really the best I have ever had. It has the perfect sweetness and bitterness balance, and thickness or density. Their pastries are sublime, and they even make their own chocolate bars. Their French pressed coffee/chocolate combination is also yummy. Its consistently outstanding.
Yummy chocolates and deserts at Christophe Artisan Chocolatier but a lady on the staff is insanely rude. My mom stops here every time she visits Charleston as she loves it so much. Although today my mom was using a downstairs sink that is entirely in the open (with no signage that is for employees only) to pour out the last of coffee before putting it in the trash to mindful of the staff who take out of the trash. One of the staff members was so rude telling my mom that is not intended for customers and as my mom is trying to explain why she was using it, she cut her off and said again it is not intended for customers. Please hire nicer staff members or else your customers will not come around again.
Extremely happy with the chocolates from this place. They are not cheap, but worth as a unique, delicious gift for every occasion. You just can not go wrong with the beautiful chocolates! Highly recommend them!
I came in to treat myself to chocolates for my 42nd birthday weekend in Charleston. The staff did not disappoint! I asked them to make me a 16 piece box and to just surprise me. Thankfully, my son was with me to stop me from buying other treats throughout the shop. The macaroon sampling we bought was incredible and Im still treating myself to a treat a day from my box. Thank you so much! I look forward to leaving my son at the school next time and blowing his dinner $$$$ on chocolate!!! Hed be ok with a pizza anyway, right?
Tasty chocolate and coffee.
We were impressed with everything about this shop. The chocolate both tastes and looks amazing. They have a great variety of options and offer gift packages in various sizes which is helpful. There is also a very small, cozy seating area upstairs to enjoy a coffee and tasty treat!
What a delight! I picked up an almond croissant and a cherry/pistachio tart, but it was soooo hard not add to my order. I was in Charleston for only 2 days, but I will be back! The almond croissant was gone in a few hours, the delicious cherry/pistachio tart was enjoyed with a good coffee. Charlottesville, eat your heart out!
By far some of the best chocolate Ive ever tasted along with delicious sweet baked treats that were cooked to perfection. Staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. Highly recommend to anyone passing through wanting a sweet treat!
Our visits here have been fun & pleasant. Beautifully displayed pastries & confections, friendly, gracious service, limited upstairs seating, and very pleasant outdoor seating. Elegant pastries and good coffee, pre-made to-go sandwiches on baguette were tasty. Recommended.
I had a pistachio cheesecake that was delicious and reasonably priced. It wasnt even a slice, they give you a whole, tiny, cheesecake. It made me feel like terrible giant whos heart had been warmed by a human baker. Also they have interesting chocolate flavors, but the chocolates are expensive so I had to choose between lavender (yum) and blue cheese (maybe someday, after I sell some golf clubs).
Great cup of fresh made to order French press coffee and the strawberry Linzer cookie was fabulous!
Delightful spot for a morning coffee and pastry or a midday spot for a break after walking around the city. I went first for a box of truffles on evening and enjoyed the experience (and the truffles) so much that I went back the next morning for coffee. The shops namesake, Christophe was behind the counter that morning - wrapping truffle boxes and working the French Press. Wonderful experience!
Fantastic, friendly staff, with some of the most impressive chocolates I have ever seen. Their coffee is splendid, as are their sandwiches. The most proper word for their foodstuffs would be authentic. There is ample seating space, which the staff encourage the use of, in addition to art shows and other events.Highly recommended if you are looking to appease your sweet tooth, and want to support awesome people.
What a delightful chocolate shop. Had the drinking coffee and a cookie and enjoyed both thoroughly. Wasnt the best chocolate Ive ever had, but definitely would recommend to folks.
Small, authentic, French chocolate store. The store was clean, the staff was friendly, and the macaroons were amazing. Macaroons I have eaten in the past were nothing like these. We tried the coconut and the creme brulee.
Delicious! Small shop.. Great truffles.. Fabulous Lemon tarte! Just Divine.
We have been coming here for years. We have always enjoyed the elegant and delicious treats but the last 2 times we have been there, we have been treated rudely. We hope this does not continue as we so love the desserts and cute patio seating. This is really disappointing.
One of a kind chocolate heart shaped box. Perfectly tempered chocolate was shiny and delicious. Truffles with creamy, luscious centers and flavors like earl grey tea and peanut butter.
A personal favorite of mine. I like the pastries, the cherry and apple tarts are my favorite. The quiches are great. Top it all off with a cold drinking chocolate.
Love the coffee and pastries here. My gluten free daughter loves the Macarons! My husband raves about the chocolate cake!
This is a must stop shop on your visit to Charleston. The chocolates are out of this world and he has such a variety of other French pastries and chocolates and desserts that you cant make your mind up! Im a repeat customer and always buy his products and the quality is excellent!!!
Love this little place for chocolate truffles. TRY THE BLUE CHEESE TRUFFLE ASAP, youll thank me later. Sounds weird but its AMAZING. 🍫
Lunch time downtown on a cold day was not a wise time to holiday shop at a place that sold coffee it was very crowded. Bought a $12.00 little bag of chocolate rounds with sprinkles. They were not that good. I hope the $35.00 box I purchased for a gift is better. They looked pretty though.
We started a very busy day in Charleston with a perfect treat of coffee, tea, and the most delicious croissants! We enjoyed our treats in the small courtyard and vowed to return again! This is a slice of happiness!
The staff was very friendly, kind, and personable. We absolutely loved visiting the shop and picking up an almond croissant and an almond meringue to go. Highly recommended!
I love this little chocolate shop! The chocolates are yummy, the croissants are delicious and their cookies are tasty. I always get their coffee, theres nothing like dark french pressed coffee. My husband loves their hot chocolate because they make it from real chocolate. The cakes and macaroons are ok. Ive had better. The textures of the cakes that Ive had here is too thick and heavy. They tend to be chewy. Same goes for the macaroons here. You really have to bite hard on the macaroon.I would recommend stopping by here, its definitely worth a visit. There is lots to choose from besides chocolate. They also have baguette sandwiches and other baked good. There is a small patio in back and an upstairs for seating. There is off street parking but its hard to find because its by King Street.
Thank you so so much Carly, your chocolate selection was Absolutely Amazing! Thank you very much too for your Macaroons recommendation from the Macaroon Boutique on John Street. All my guests were just Blown Away! Charleston is so lucky to have you both here.
If you like chocolate bars, pastries, etc., this is the place 4 you.
Always awesome chocolate and service. Owners in the shop all the time and working hard to put a great product out there. Stop in and feed your sweet tooth.
Lovely shop with superb confections. We were a bit surprised when a worker openly chastised the worker that was filling our chocolate order and cut in to complete the job. This seemed in poor taste and left us feeling quite awkward.
I love their hot sipping chocolate. Nothing like it in Charleston. Great spot of gifts too! Everything prepared here is exceptional.
The best almond croissants ever! So good that we went back the next day for more. Great cookies and chocolate too. Tried the double chocolate cookie and some dark chocolate and both were outstanding. Nice patio to eat your goodies at. Free wi-fi. Have a good selection of coffee drinks as well. Highly recommend.
The staff was very polite and friendly! We had the macaroons, cherry tart and almond croissant; it was all deliciousMy sister visiting from out of town is demanding I go back to buy the mix to their signature Stella coffee to send to her.
A world class chocolate in Charleston. Beautiful and delicious. Fun classes also.
Wow! This place is definitely on the list of best pastries and chocolate in the greater Charleston area! Their store is cute and quaint, love the way it is set up. Upstairs is huge with lots of seating. So glad I found Christophe Artisan Chocolatier!!
Very clean establishment. Organized chocolate, meringues, truffles and other tasty delights. Outside and upstairs seating. Very friendly and helpful staff. A short walk from King Street.
This place was introduced by a friend and the chocolate was delicious! I will definitely be back there next time I am in Charleston!
Great chocolates, and I respect the chocolatier for being willing to experiment.Dark chocolate + blue cheese = a surprisingly delicious concoction
Beautiful and delicious confections. Staff was more than patient while we narrowed down our choices. Will def go again.
Great in-house macaroons, and the cheapest (great-tasting) french press in the area. Not to mention, the back (shaded) patio is a nice spot for relaxing after waking all day.
Thier chocolate is amazing but thier l7nch sandwiches are to die for! Well worth a walk in the heat for a sandwich and delicious dessert for lunch. Weekends are even better!
Id give 10 Stars if I could...best almond croissant
Get the donut... prices arent bad for the quality, and everything looks so good. Did I mention the donut?
Amazing pastries!! Wonderful selection of treats you cannot find anywhere else.
