I go to Visonworks in Charlottesville whenever I am up there. Such amazing staff. They are funny and truly care about my well being. They have a massive selection of frames and it is hard just to chose one. Also, the manager is super nice and helpful with anything. Definitely the only place I allow to adjust my glasses.

I really would NOT shop here and spend your money where you are valued and the products dont break on you. First of all, the service here is terrible; the staff are rude and dismissive. I walked in to just pick up my glasses and they told me theyd call me to come back in 45 minutes. The staff yell at you and are overall demeaning. In addition to that, I spent over $200, and my insurance spent over $400 for a pair of classes with scratch resistant coating. Ive never had lenses that scratched so easily and were completely ruined; Ive been wearing glasses for 13 years. I took great care of my glasses, yet one of the lenses kept popping out before the entire frame just snapped as I was wearing the glasses. I have never had this happen or known it to happen to anyone. I was simply sitting and wearing them; I noticed that they were started to become loose, and then just snapped. For a $600 pair of glasses, this is shocking, but whats more shocking is after only 6 months I was charged $60 to fix this terrible pair of glasses. Please save your money and find another store.

My dog tried to eat my Ray Ban mirrors and I needed a new nose piece. They took my glasses into the repair shop and after a while the nicest lady came out with the repair done perfectly. I asked, how much? She said, no charge, just remember us the next time you need glasses or any of our services. Thats exactly what Im going to do! 1st rate shop.

If I could give this place a negative star I would give them a negative five star. When you find a pair of glasses you love you stick with them and as long as they arent damaged you can usually take them anywhere and get new lenses put in. Not at Vision Works. They dont accept certain brands of glasses at all, thats the first negative mark they get. Next, when I gave them a pair of Tiffanys frames to put my new lenses in they then said that it would be 21 days before they would be ready because unless you purchase frames there on the day you purchase the lenses they have to send them out to an off site lense lab. And now it appears that they have no clue what happened to my glasses. When I log in on the website it just says Pending and when I called the customer service line, they said that it was just as confusing on their end. She was very polite and nice and apologized for the inconvenience so the representative was actually nice but their system is not a good one. So not only am I suffering from migraines from not having sunglasses or my new prescription but it seems that they have lost my Tiffany frames! Worst eyeglass center ever. I wouldnt even send my worst enemy there.

Very poor customer experience. I went with my brother and a friend to look around for glasses as he was getting a new prescription. We were waiting at the door to check in as they need to follow the COVID-19 protocol. which I completely understand and I appreciate. So we were waiting patiently. One of the associates was helping another customer while the other three were either on the computer or in the back cleaning the used glasses. We waited for about 10 minutes. We literally moved 1 step to see the collection of glasses that was next to the door, didnt touch anything just look while waiting for the associate. One of them yelled across the room You cant do that!!!. Completely rude. Eventually one of the associates came and checked our temperature and asked us if we have a prescription. My brother said no we are just here to look at frames. The associate told us We dont allow people to come in without a prescription, but we will allow you this time. Then she turned around and asked our friend and myself Are you guys going to see anything, because only whoever is going to try is allowed in. Well were really there to give our opinion to my brother but I guess now we had to try some glasses on. I found few nice frames and I gave them to my brother to try. The same lady yelled again across the room You cant do that you need to stay 6ft apart. It is very ironic that she yelled at us to stay 6ft apart when we came in together and waited at the door for 10 minutes with few inches distance from each other.Overall we felt very unwelcome. I would never recommend this place to anyone who wants to purchase glasses. There are other places with way better customer service that know how to treat a customer!

Overall I am satisfied with my frames and prescription lenses. The Optometrists are fantastic and really took their time with my eye exam and explained in detail my results.The other side of Vision Works where you purchase your frames is a whole different story. One of the assistants named Sue was utterly rude and disrespectful and acted as though my questions were wasting her time. I spent over $650.00 for two frames with prescription lenses so I believe its worth the assistants not being rude and dismissive. I went with my husband to pick up my glasses and as we were waiting Sue hollered across the room that we were not allowed to be close to each other and it didnt matter if we were in the same house or slept in the same bed - as long as we were in the store we were to be 6 feet apart. It embarrassed us because one she hollered it and two the shop was full of other clients and everyone there just stopped and stared. There was no excuse for Sues behavior towards us and the proper way to handle this was to walk over to us and quietly state Vision Works policy in private.Vision Works eye exams are thorough and excellent however the frame shop I will not be going back to for future glasses. In this economy right now - businesses should be hanging on to every customer and not embarrassing them. Sue needs a refresher course in how to treat and keep returning clients.

I have had the pleasure of being a customer here, twice. So far its just been to have my glasses adjusted and nose pieces replaced, but both times I have been very impressed. Very respectful of their customers, and super quick to help. I plan on returning when its time for new glasses.

Super rude! I did obviously not know exactly what their guidelines were or how strict they were but there was 1 customer in the store and two staff and in the left corner I peaked (actually peaked I am not insane or a Covid denier) under my mask to see the glasses on my nose! and the lady seriously yelled from across the store. I did not respond i just thanked her for the time put the tray down and left. (I am not white I know better not to respond or start a discussion :) ) Anyway!Not so important.Since the Doctor next door is super nice and good at her job you can just get your prescription there and go to another store. Even while getting an eye exam the doctor asked me (if I was comfortable) to lower my mask since the fog with your glasses gets out of control.I am going to Spectacle shop (also covered by UVA insurances). These are their guidelines which makes it easier to get new glasses:1. as long as you are 6 feet apart you can pull mask down to take a look.2. if they have capacity you can have a family/friend member with you to help pick one out.UVA Students and staff -- you can get glasses at other places in Cville. Specially if you are non-white like me and get super uncomfortable by white ladies yelling and looking down at you :)

I have been purchasing glasses from this location for the past 6 years. Today I left without purchasing glasses for the first time. After trying on 3 pairs of glasses a lady came up to me and stated 3 times that the store is not setup for browsing and I needed to purchase glasses to remain in the store. I’m not sure why this lady assumed that I had no intention on purchasing glasses but just like other reviewers stated if I were of a different race (white) this issue would have never been brought up. It seems that several customers have complained and left reviews on this site about this location yet they continue to lose business because I too will never walk back through those doors either and as a physician I will make sure my patients are also aware.

Everyone in the store were helpful and patient. It takes me a long time to pick out frames. The BOGO free enabled me to get 2 pairs of progressive lenses for what I have paid in the past for 1 pair. When I went to pick them up I had a short wait and they fit perfectly. The lenses are perfect; the progressive measurements are spot on. I highly recommend Visionworks.

I love this Visionworks store. They are always friendly and helpful. My 98 yr old Mom is always getting her glasses out of shape or losing a nose piece. To get new glasses is a challenge to adjust to her liking, just because they are different. Each person is patient and attentive to her needs. There are many employees that I know by name having visited the store for many years. So thankful for each of their wonderful employees.

I had a great experience getting my glasses and contacts through Visionworks. I appreciated that I was allowed to roam the store and try on as many frames as I wanted on my own first, and then when I was ready for help narrowing down my choice an associate was ready to jump in with their assistance even though the store was fairly busy. The associate assisting me was very knowledgeable of my insurance coverage and knew the most cost-effective way to use it.I just picked up my glasses - I was told my glasses would be ready in 2 weeks and I got them in one business day!Overall a generally great experience - 5 stars!

Ive been to Visionworks a few times and I always have a great experience. I just went recently to get some new glasses and contacts and Kelly was very helpful and kind. She went above and beyond to help me find a pair of glasses perfect for me. She gave honest opinions on different frames and lenses as well as helping me by fixing a issue with the nose pads on my current glasses. I would definitely recommend visionworks if you need new glasses because they also have a great deal to save money!

I recently got 2 new pairs of glasses. The sales lady was so nice and patient as I tried on dozens of pairs she made a suggestion and the 2 pairs I got were suggestions from Sales Lady. They are always so nice each time you go in they always great you as soonas you walk in-even when they are busy. They also take their time with you even when busy. I love Vision Works and now instead of looking all over town for glasses I just go to Vision Works as they always have a great selection.

OMG!! I walked in with a pair of reading glasses which I had gotten at Whole Foods and which kept falling off when I looked down. I asked if there was something that could be put on the glasses to keep them from falling, and I had no idea what was about to take place! I was told that yes, there are such things at a drugstore, but they could actually make an adjustment on the glasses. I had my doubts, thinking they were simply too big, but in a matter of a couple of minutes these glasses were totally transformed into what I can now call real glasses!! They feel comfortably snug... No more falling off when I look down!! The staff where extremely helpful and kind, and did not charge me a penny!! I definitely recommend this Vision Works!! ❤️❤️

Worst experience ever. I took the day off and pulled my two children out of school to get eye exams and glasses, 2.5hrs later I walked out with nothing. They have one optometrist the rest are apprentices who have to have everything checked by the actual optometrist. Unfortunately the optometrist kept seeing other people who came in after us instead of taking time to help his apprentice. I was prepared to buy 5 pair of glasses and got none because I could not wait indefinitely for the optometrist to do his job. Very very poor customer service and no apology whatsoever for the wait

Dr. Basic is a fantastic optometrist. My previous eye doctor had me on contact prescriptions that were too strong for my eyes. I was hoping to get Lasik but my vision was not stable enough to get the procedure done. Once I switched over to Dr. Basic, he helped me get my prescription right and stabilized my eyesight so that I could get Lasik. I am very pleased with Dr. Basic and Visionworks!

I dont ever give negative reviews but I just cant shake this experience that I had at your store that really made me disappointed. Yesterday, (June 29, 2019) I went to this store in Barracks to just browse frames for a new set of glasses for my spouse as we were running errands. When we were looking at frames, we were followed throughout the store by one of your employees (an overweight younger looking woman with glasses and a red top is my only description as we werent able to get a name) as if we were trying to steal merchandise. Both my spouse and I are professionals who work at UVA, me a physician at UVA hospital and my spouse, a PhD psychologist. We have no reason to steal anything and can easily afford everything we want and need. This employee saw us as 2 African American women browsing and treated us as thieves. Im currently pregnant and was sitting in a seat and she rudely told me to get up and move without offering a different place to sit. When we left, she was near us and didnt even say bye as she did to everyone else that walked out of the store. As an African American, I pay close attention to these things and how businesses treat me and make sure to give business to places that treat me with respect. This was one of the worst experiences of racial profiling Ive had in Charlottesville. We immediately went to the Spectacle Shop nearby where we were treated with respect, given our space to browse, and not followed throughout the store like criminals. We will be purchasing a pair of glasses for both my spouse and I at the Spectacle Shop because we were treated as normal paying customers and not racially profiled.

I called the morning of Dec 31, 2012 to get an appointment with the expectation that they may not be able to fit me in. I spoke with a young lady on the phone who said she could put me down for an appointment at a specific time. I informed the lady that I wouldnt be able to show up until 15-30 minutes after that time because I was at work. She told me that was no problem. I verified by asking There wont be a problem if I get there half an hour after the appointment time? to which she replied, No. We just need to have you in the appointment book.When I arrived to Vision Works 20 minutes after my appointment time, the rude man at the desk (apparently the store manager) asked me if I had an appointment. I told him I had an appointment and gave him the appointment time. He then said I was late and told me he couldnt fit me in. I told him the lady I spoke with said it wouldnt be a problem and he asked me who I spoke with. I told him, Whoever wrote my name in that book right there. He then went and asked someone else and reiterated that they could not see me that day. WOW! No sense in talking to the lady who wrote my name down or trying to find a way to help the customer instead of trying to figure out how you CANT help someone.

I needed an eye exam and received one here. After finding my proper prescription I found that I would see a noticeable improvement in my vision and purchased glasses that would help me see road signs at a distance again and would keep my eyes from getting so tired at work.The glasses I received 14 days later only very slightly helped my vision up close and were WORSE than my natural vision at distance. For $380 I was not happy, but given the state of customer service these days I figured something was wrong on their end. I went back to make sure I received the proper prescription and it turns out that I waited 14 days (their shortest turnaround time) for the WRONG prescription and a distorted right lens!!Everything takes them 14 days. Orders/repairs/anything. 14 days. Then you get glasses that dont help anywhere near what you experienced during the exam!Also they are located in the middle of a traffic jam. Its been 5 weeks since Ive seen my glasses and as soon as I get them back Im going somewhere else even if it means paying out of pocket because this office is a tremendous waste of time!

I went to the Charlottesville,VA store today while awaiting my appointment for an eye exam at the attached doctors office. I was immediately greeted by 2 employees upon entering, received a lot of help and sales were explained to me. Nallihe is sooo awesome! She picked out frames for me that complimented my style, fit properly and didnt break the budget. Duplicitous TV commercial, free impact resistant lenses for children. I suppose if you buy frames 4 your kids you get free lenses or free which only means they follow the law and only sell impact resistance lenses and frames for children. These chain retailers of medical devices are grossly failing their patients. You dont have to take it, call your state boards dealing with medical professionals. You deserve to know which device can provide you with the best corrected vision possible. Better vision can = quicker responce time and this could be a matter of life and death. I stand behind this statement fully.

In the 40 years Ive worn glasses, this experience has been the worst. Sales person was only interested in sale. Order placed wrong, corrected but no refund on overcharge. One pair fell apart in less than 8 months, $1,800 down the drain. Go ANYWHERE but VisionWorks!

Super disappointed. Bought the buy one get one free deal... Ended up spending $300???? For a pair of glasses that were originally $150... Dont know how that happened. Not 4 weeks later (and careful handling of my glasses), my glasses are falling apart. Some of the decoration fell off, the paint is peeling, and one of my nose pads fell off. So glad I bought the insurance... Half expecting to pay to get them fixed. Save your money... Go somewhere else.

Be careful! The doctor may be in-network but the glasses/contacts probably are not. They use this deceitful practice to get you to pay for the glasses up-front. (ie they will take your insurance for the exam and then give you a discount on the glasses and a form to submit. You will not be reimbursed for the discounted price of the glasses because it will be out of network.
