A nice cool little spot. Feel like its not super friendly to out of towners though. Even though I had a great time my boyfriend not so much. I give a solid 3 stars

Super close location to the UIC college campuses to snag a beer between classes or study for finals while you watch the game. Also close to the baseball field to catch a game or happy hour special. Feel free to bring in food to BBQ with your friends and family before a game or order in anytime. Theres a laid back but still classy atmosphere and music. From video games, ping pong table, video games, a guitar, darts, mega Jenga blocks, books and board games and lots of interesting people travel thru downtown. Train station and bus depot are easily accessible. Outside seating and heated outside tables...

I love the price of drinks here and you can bring your own food in with you. In the patio area you can smoke a cigar and enjoy a few drinks with friends. This will be a place I will continue to patronize.

Wow own a bar in the neighborhood and came to spend some money and introduce myself and the bar is closed already .....obviously amateurs running this bar ....for the extra $17 you are paying your staff to stay those extra 2 hours you just lost a couple hundred $dollars on top of the $$$$ you lost from us never coming back again.....

It was cool to reconnect with Mike the bartender, one of the former owners of a bar that I used to frequent in Ukrainian Village. Seems a lot of regulars who knew each other, so had to remind a few to social distance with me.Good drinks on the outside patio watching the Cubs win and the Blackhawks end their season, unfortunately.

Decent atmosphere and drinks were alright. Good dive bar to hang out at and watch sports. Wish they had more cocktails during happy hour. The mason jar cocktail was $9 and I was not happy with how small the drink was.

Whenever Im in town from New York, I always visit Ph.D for a great night of drinks and the atmosphere. The bar has an awesome selection of beer and the bartenders make an awesome mixed drink. I love the outdoor patio in the summer time to relax and meet new friends. Mike (the owner) is the nicest guys and caters to all his customers. Cant wait to come back in June!

Nice place. Nice vibe. Bartenders are nice, for the most part. They do something annoying here, for whatever reason. They prop open the door, regardless of weather. So whoever sits on the end of the bar by the door gets blasted with cold air constantly. And whoever is working the bar doesnt ask if its ok, or if you want to move. Thats rude...

A popular local bar with a very nice outdoor patio (that even includes a grill for bring-your-own-food events). The inside can seem a little cramped when first walking through, but there is a surprising amount of indoor seating. There are also games in the lounge area in the back by the restrooms for those who feel so inclined. Another surprise for a bar like this one was that the restrooms were pretty clean, aside from periodically running out of soap. If you are looking for food, you have to bring your own (but they are happy for you to do so) as this pub only serves drinks. There are plenty of nearby carry-out food options though, and so it easy to find something. The bar is a quick walk to UIC, and so expect to see students and maybe some faculty. The outdoor patio is probably the main feature to emphasize when convincing your friends to join you there for a beer or cocktail.

Great prices and a great time every time I go. Staff is on top of everything; bartenders never let my drink empty and waitress never lets anything pile up. Just a good looking and fun place to go.

I came here with a friend to buy him a birthday beer today, which is a Thursday evening. The bar was pretty uncrowded, and the reason for that soon became clear. The blonde bar tender/server handed us menus and then proceeded to ignore us for the entire duration of our stay. I got up from my table after a lengthy wait to order a drink at the empty bar where there were 3 bar tenders chatting with each other not doing any apparent or actual work. The blonde, our alleged server, again deliberately ignored me as I waited for her at the bar. So I relocated to a different section that seemed to be manned by a different bar tender. The trashy-trucker-hat-wearing bar tender finally took my order, then talked to his friend for 10 additional minutes before giving me the wrong foamy bottled beer without a glass (which he seemed to shake up before charging me for it). This is a terrible place with worse service than I have had in a long time. Because I bar tended for several years prior to this, I tipped them anyway, though they did not deserve it. We promptly left for Bar Louie where the server, who was way busier than anyone at PhD Pub, greeted us right away, letting us know he was sorry for being super busy, but he would be right with us, which was perfectly fine with us, and frankly, far far better behavior than we had just encountered. Consumers, be apprised that you do NOT need to put up with this place. Know that right next door is far far better service. Do NOT settle for PhD (read-Profoundly Horrible Drink-service) Bar.

Best patio spot on the south side, they have bags for play, a fire pit, speakers, great outdoor lounge and furniture I just wish they had a bigger bathroom. The bar is the best outdoor option for me, try it out if your ever by UIC

This is my go-to place for a nice neighborhood feel. Its in the Pilsen area and has a great outdoor patio plus you can bring food.

Was greeted and had a great conversation with the owners (I think so). They were super cool. The staff seems pretty cool as well. They have a jukebox and a couple customers were playing Creed. Everyone was laughing though. Any bar that hates Creed and Nickleback is my kind of place. If you need to get hammered and have fun. Dont go to Bar Louie. Go to Phd.

Weather is getting nice. They have a 3 season beer garden with grills where you can make dinner with friends.
