After receiving terrible service from another company, I came upon Aquaman Marine and Percy. I was hoping for better customer interaction and better service overall. WOW! Percy delivers!I was just purchasing my boat and it was coming from Florida. It needed some basic work and I had plenty of upgrades in mind. Percy walked me through his recommendations, gave me a detailed estimate and performed the work on time, on budget, and with excellent fit & finish. It’s now 5 years later. Aquaman Marine has serviced, hauled, winterized, stored & launched my boat since I’ve owned it. Percy has been an irreplaceable asset that keeps us safe on the water and ready to have fun. I have referred many other customers to Percy and they have been equally as pleased as I have been.If you’ve got a boat in the Chicago area, call Aquaman Marine!
Aquaman marine has done work on my 2000 Cobalt 246 with a Volvo engine for the past three years and I strongly recommend this company for any boat repairs. The quality of work is outstanding and you will not be disappointed.
We owe our entire boating experience to Aquaman Marine. Their honest and experienced expertise and superior level of service has been essential to our introduction to the boating community. We moved to Chicago from San Francisco and decided boating was our way to satisfy our love of the outdoors. We were completely new to boating 3 years ago and would never have had such a smooth transition without Aquaman Marine. We are eternally grateful!
All the staff and especially Jim from sales were great. They made my experience with Aquaman marine unforgettable. Friendly faces all around you, very patient, all questions are answered in professional way. More than satisfied from service I received here. Will recommend to everyone.
Nice guys. Service was fast and priced right compared with other boat yards. They solve a problem that 2 other places could not!
Percy was great at first. He was going to upgrade our windlass for us and suggested we do it over the winter. He also convinced us to winterize with him. Come March, it was impossible to get a hold of him - no calls were answered, no voicemails returned. Finally he called me and said the boat was ready for summer and that somehow he accidentally blocked my phone number. Now that we are on the lake, I find that the windlass is not working. I have tried to get in touch with him again and again, but he does not answer or return any calls. At this point, I doubt I will ever reach hold of him again. I dont recommend using Percy. Once you commit to him doing some work for you, he will disappear.I would happily change my opinion of this experience if I have a way to get a hold of Percy again.
Aquaman marine is a great service to repair your boat. Very friendly and knowledgeable staff. Owner is super friendly and helpful. Definitely recommend.
Yep 5 stars, Finally, a boat mechanic you can trust. I’ve worked with Percy for the last 13 years and he has my loyalty. Percy actually looks at the problem and tries to repair it. He is just not a parts changer. Yes preventive maintenance is a must, and when I do not listen and it goes out, Percy is just a phone call away to help trouble shoot the issue. Most recent repair was to the trailer supports and bunks. I went to pull the boat out in the fall and it fit the trailer like a glove:) I highly recommend Aquaman Marine Inc.
I never write reviews, but my experience was so bad that I had to warn others. My diagnosis is that Percy may be a nice guy - but he’s way over-extended. He was always putting out other fires, so his communication was severely lacking and full of excuses. I caught him in numerous white lies along the way.I purchased an old boat in the spring of 2015 – which ran well all summer. In August, when lining up the storage contract, I notified Percy of my erratic trim indicator and leak by the sensor, along with a list of other repairs/projects for which I wanted quotes during the off-season. I also asked him if he recommended any other items. Given an old boat and unknown maintenance history, I wanted to make sure we had time to deal with whatever we found when we opened it up. I started out very patient. Alas, winterizing and shrink-wrap didn’t even happen until after the first snowfall in late Nov. and power-wash of the bottom, (which was to occur at haul-out) wasn’t completed until late May. Emails and texts went unanswered for months and the quotes (floors, gel coat, canvas, electrical, etc.) never came. He had numerous excuses. I ended up doing many repairs myself – postponing others ‘till next year. He finally started on my outdrive this month (June 2016), but then refused to finish it. A week later, my boat was dropped with the disassembled outdrive (“boat in a box”) at another mechanic that I found, who is piecing it back together.
Aquaman Marine provides great service. They always find the root of a problem instead of masking the problem. Full service repair shop. Only Chicago based boat repair shop that I know of and they dont charge for service calls.
Service was fast and priced right. Both techs were very professional and well informed
My experience was also so bad that I too have to warn others. I hired him and asked him for an estimate for cosmetic repairs, any suggestions and potentially a new trailer. 6 months went by, I tried to contact him over a dozen times without a single response. I finally got lucky and got a response from Mike, who told me that they had sent over numerous estimates and were waiting on my response. So I asked him to send the estimate again, waited for 2 weeks and nothing ever arived. I once again started calling, texting and emailing with no luck for weeks until Mike answered one day, he gave me excuses and said that their trailer person had issues due to missing or unavailable titles and they were busy and didn’t get a chance to respond. Given that, I asked for my boat back, to which he said he would call me within the week to schedule a drop off because they were very busy with existing drop offs. It proved to be another lie, added to the numerous lies since hiring them.Out of my dozens of attempts to reach him through phone, email and texts, I only heard back from him or Mike a total of 3 times in the span of 2 years and everything was an excuse or lie.It took almost 2 years of trying, unsuccessfully to get my boat back. I had friends and even my insurance agent try reaching him, none were successful. When I finally got my boat back after almost 2 years, the reality of how bad their service is set in...I paid $900 to winterize and store my boat and all he did was shrink wrap it, left everything else untouched and left it unprotected outside to rot. The oil was not changed in the engine or out drive, battery was left attached and fully drained, interior was a disastrous mess and finish deeply oxidized. It was so bad that it took me almost 4 weeks of heavy work to bring the boat back to a functioning state. No matter what I tried, I couldn’t get it back to the shape it was in before hiring Percy. I had to basicallly rebuild the engine, rebuild the carb and replace all wiring, belts, fluids, etc. When I finally got the motor to fire, black soot poured out of the exhaust. Thankfully I have some mechanical sense and I was able to restore and save the engine. The interior, that’s another story... I’ll have to reupholster all seats and potentially replace the carpet. Before hiring them, I had some cosmetic issues, that were manageable, but at this point, due to their incompetence, the repairs needed are going to exceed the value of the boat.Beware, they’re not who they say they are, they can’t deliver on their contracts and will just cause you unnecessary stress and take your money without delivering on their commitments. Also, don’t buy into their ratings, they have family post positive reviews to make them look good! Shady business...
Does a great job
Nice guys fast service
