2nd time the food once again did not disappoint. Family group dinner and all choices were deliciously. Critques - service was a bit lacking and not as frequent, in fact walked over twice to service station to get items that were missing on the plates or on the table. Cant fault servers that much as restaurants are running short staffed to meet the greater demand. When the live band started to play, definitely noisier for having conversations. Still would return for thr food. Need reservations if dining in on a band night.
Im a little sad to give this place a 3 star review.A lot about this place was really nice, but the fact that the lobster on the eggs benedict was clearly imitation crab made me reduce this by two stars.Ive eaten plenty of lobster at restaurants around Chicago and this was so blatantly imitation grab it was kind of ridiculous. Also there was very little of it. I was pretty disappointed. Luckily my wife split her steak benedict with me which was very good.Everything else was great! The potatoes were surprisingly really good. The wait staff was friendly and the place looked great. The bacon was rather over priced at $6 for really thin pieces. Ive paid $5 for bacon at the Avondale but that was thicccck cut bacon and was close to being worth it. This was not.The endless mimosas were nice, but if Im honest, Park & Field did fill them up faster.Overall I might go back again to try the chicken and waffles. I did have a great time with friends.... but that crab in place of lobster.... Oh noooo
I should have known there would have been a 3% covid safety fee when the server was wearing a Che Guevara locket neckless.$1 oysters were good tho
The OG Kale salad was amazing! So were the sweet potato fries.
Great steak salad and cool place to see music, but beer prices a bit steep, even for Chicago.
I used to walk past this place all the time but never went, I was missing out! Chop Shop is a lot roomier than it appears on the outside, it even has a rooftop patio and a large room in the back for events or party rentals. The atmosphere is great, very laid back and also a surprising amount of tvs if trying to catch some of a game. The brunch food was fantastic. The French toast with blueberries and pistachio was so sweet and rich! But I especially liked the sausage sandwich. The biscuit had a perfect crumble to it and bacon baked in. Will have to visit again to try out lunch or dinner options!
The food was delicious! Had the Butcher burger and it was the best burger Ive had in a long time. I also caught a cool special: $1 oysters! The Buffalo Cauliflower was also really good, but they dont serve it with ranch. You NEED the ranch.
Food took forever (but there was a party of like 20 ish people so that might have contributed). Chicken and waffles was alright, staff was great, very nice place to be overall though!
The Butcher Burger is easily one of my top 3 ever. And order a margarita from Chance at the upstairs bar...no frills delicious old school rita made proper.
AMAZING chicken & waffles, super lively brunch with a DJ and bottomless mimosas for a great price. Loved it
The food is good but the service is so slow
They mix pork in to their burgers and top them with bacon while not making it apparent on the menu, and they only tell you when ask about the bacon 🤪
Great food! Great music! Love the venue!
Thank you Chop for making my birthday celebration with my family a special event. The servers, food, drinks were spot on. If you like raw oysters this is the place to get them. They are so incredibly fresh and shucked to perfection. No grit!!! Burgers are soooooo amazing. Stop at the butcher shop in the main level and bring some home to cook on the grill. Smash burger, butcher burger, doesn’t matter they are a must. One last shout out for the amazing mamma Minelli’s meatballs. Just like my grandma’s!!!Entire experience was a delight. Thank you CHOP SHOP crew!!!!
My family and I stopped by to have dinner last night, we sat by the bar and Alex was very attentive, he would check on us and asked if we needed anything, the great service and food never fails. Great management and customer service, Ive been in the business for so many years that feeling like home is rare now days; once again thank you Alex for the great service. Will be stopping by again for that prime ribeye I felt in love with, definitely will be referring friends and more family.
Was here for a podcast show and had a great time - the staff was friendly. Only downfall was they were not fully stocked at the bar and ran out of a few things early in the night.
The food was so good!! Steak was cooked PERFECTLY! Great friendly services and the downstairs was a really nice area.
My friends and I had the BEST experience here. We went on Wednesday which is half price wine and $1 oyster night. Our waiter, Kris, was super friendly and helpful. Even while wearing a mask, he managed to make great conversation with us and was incredibly attentive to our needs. We had asked him for another bottle of wine, before realizing we still had some left and he said he would keep an eye on it and as soon as we finished the first one, another one quickly appeared without us having to ask! Then, my friend had the wings and some sauce splattered on her shirt, and without even having to ask, the bartender, Alex, came out with some club soda and a napkin to clean it up. The service would have been enough to want to come back, but the food was also delicious (wings, oysters, and garlic fries! YUM) and the ambiance was also great (love their rooftop patio!). Cannot recommend this place enough!
We ordered steak mines was very stuff but they did cook me another one I asked the waitress for some A1 sauce she had no idea of what it was talking about Most restaurants when they have steakThey have A1 sauce or Heinz 57But it was not a steakhouseMaybe thats why
Nice and big space, young crowd, average food.A decent hanger steak was served with cold fries.Salmon dish was very nice.Oysters were fine as were the chicken wings.Nothing special.
Ive just moved to the area and am so happy an acquaintance recommended Chop Shop for lunch this week. The beet and goat cheese salad I ordered was probably the BEST beet and goat cheese salad Ive ever had (and I basically order beets and goats cheese salads wherever I see one on a menu). The atmosphere is really nice and comfortable, with more casual seats by the window, where I sat as I was time-limited, and nicer, comfy seating further back into the shop/bar, which is deceptively large. I cant wait to go back for more.
Butcher shop with online ordering is convenient, reasonably priced and super high quality.
Was only here for a concert few years back. Their Mozarella breadsticks were memorable. Im not big on Mozarella breadsticks. They were exceptional. I did not expect amazing breadsticks at a concert. Will check out the shop once more when Im back in town.
Good customer service, great music, and ok food for brunch. $25 mimosas
Good food good staff and good vibe
We are visiting family here and had a great time at dinner. Great food, and staff. We sat upstairs outside, felt safe and really enjoyed the live music.
Wanted to find a good burger late in the evening, the valet recommended the Chop Shop across from our hotel. What a nice find. It has a butcher shop up front but around the corner is a cozy seating area on one side and a bar on the other and an event center at the back. A lot going on! The burgers were fabulous, the beer cold, service very good and the price reasonable. I was just sorry we didnt get back there before we left.
If you love intimate shows and great sound, Chop Shop is your venue. Ideal size and space. Good selection of drinks. Its the coziest venue in Chicago. I am always watching their show listings for artists I like.
A solid restaurant that also operates as a music venue. I saw My Life With the Thrill Kill Kult, and the atmosphere was incredible. Great sound, and it was nice to be able to sit down with my drinks and watch the band at the same time.
The staff is lovely and the food is fantastic. Very cool atmosphere - quite intimate for shows (and I love that). Recommend the veggie burger/patty, hard to find one that tastes that good.
Visited Chop Shop to support a band, but had a fairly poor experience between waiting for staff (wasn’t busy when first arriving), getting the wrong drinks half of the time (literally) and then on top of that, being over charged. I rarely leave bad reviews but after seeing the extra charge on my credit card, I thought I’d take the time to share my thoughts. The burger was pretty awful too, however... one best part of the food was the short rib pasta, that was good enough to bring this review up to 1 star.
Great place with wonderful food. Bring your friends, great hangout spot. The music is very eclectic and was quite enjoyable. They definitely have something youd like. I go for the steak and the wine. Highly recommend this restaurant. My reviews are for the best of the best. Dont think about it, just go there! My advice? Take it, itll be the best decision youve made in a long time. Like & Share. Follow me, Ill keep you well fed.
I was walking by and honestly I thought this was a meat market. I walked in and met a woman at the counter that mentioned they had a full dine in experience and as I looked past her I could see a very enticing bar. As I walked back to the bar to get a drink I noticed a huge stage in the back in which they were preparing for a performance. It was surprise after surprise walking into this place. And in a great way. As I sat down at the bar Alex the Bartender continued to surprise me by going above and beyond. The cocktail was Amazing but then he gave me a tour of the space and invited me to stay for the show they were preparing for. Honestly this place shocked and amazed me the whole way through. I appreciate these types of businesses that continue to think outside the box and offer an experience that is authentic and unique. My highest praises for my experience at the Chop shop.
I had a wonderful time in this restaurant. We liked the first-rate atmosphere and the meals. The staff members are super welcoming. I’m content we ultimately managed to try this restaurant.
Excellent concert venue. Good sound. Great staff. Great vibes. All around a good time!
The staff is lovely and the food is fantastic. Very cool atmosphere - quite intimate for shows (and I love that). Recommend the veggie burger/patty, hard to find one that tastes that good.
It looked nice at first, however the waiter was cold and unfriendly. The dishes were overpriced especially when your filet mignon is a bloody knot of fat. Baby size portions, except for the frozen fries served with a blob of fat. The waiter scolded us for not having our masks on when he came to the table. No other customers were wearing masks at their tables, NO ONE. Top it off the waiter chases us to the stairs and demanded a larger tip. Definitely never going back. Bad enough the food was such poor quality, but the service as well.
I had a wonderful time in this restaurant. We liked the first-rate atmosphere and the meals. The staff members are super welcoming. I’m content we ultimately managed to try this restaurant.
My family and I came in from Buffalo for Patrick Lives On. Before the event we enjoyed lunch there. Management and staff phenomenal and most accommodating. I highly recommend both the Patrick Lives On Fundraiser and enjoying and meal at The Chop Shop.
Exceptional food, very friendly employees, regularly excellent mood. They charge convenient pricing and the food quality is good. Keep it up.
Great food and service! Had the tuna salad sandwich, great seasoning, good potatoes
When I asked where the bathroom was. “ I’m not a babysitter...”
Chop shop is cool. As far as venues go, the people who book shows there are generally up and coming and the space more of an intimate/small/medium kinda venue somewhere between a dive bar and an actual place that only does music. The sound system is great. The people are competent
Ordered a great take out meal that was ready in about 10 minutes!
I love everything about this place, great food, great drinks, great bands. This is the premier venue in Chicago, Kat is by far the best, great suggestions on mixed drinks, beer or food. You can’t go wrong here.
YUM. The steak from here is unreal! Also love the rooftop patio
Great place to watch a game, enjoy a steak, or hear some live music. The Shop also rents space for charity and other events, so its got a cool ethos as well. The staff is friendly and takes care of regulars.
Such a great place to see a band! Super friendly staff that will readily hook you up with a flyer from the show, I watched the owner comp a guy who simply asked how much it was, and she put him on the list, cuz she felt like giving. I usually meet whomever I go to see if I politely stick around after, and this venue books a lot of great bands. It is a real butcher shop that normally closes around 10 PM I am told here on Google, as it also is a restaurant/bar. It has an amazing bathroom and handwashing station separate from each other. I love this place, and have since I first came here. I have never had an issue, and I have seen them deal with issues swiftly, safely, and fair to the people causing the issues. I rarely see anyone ejected if they comply to the fair staff suggestions. Parking is 7 days a week in this area, as a heads up. I find parking easy and cheap enough if you arrive early, which I always recommend one do. Come early, check out ALL THE BANDS! OPENERS OFTEN SLAY A CLOSER, JUST STATING FACTS!!!
Fantastic space for whatever youre looking for. Great drinks and beer list if looking for a place to drink (patio is great if it is nice out). Legitimately upscale food at non upscale prices, a little bit for everyone. And then the deli if youre just looking to grab and go. Cant recommend it enough.
Went here for a concert, so I didnt try any of the food, even though the burgers looked amazing. The stage is in the far back and its not a huge venue. It probably holds a couple hundred people. It has ample balcony space, if you want to get out of the crowd for a bit. The sounds was pretty good as well. On the ground, there was no gate, so you could get right up to the stage, which was probably a little under 5 foot of the ground.
We ended up having drinks and dinner @ the bar upstairs in the 1st Ward. The drinks were AMAZING. Everyone should try the Rhubarb Tart cocktail. The zucchini fritters were so delicious. I had a the burger--the meat was so fresh and cooked perfectly. My boyfriend had the chicken. It melted in our mouths!I cannot wait to go back to this interesting space. There are so many different areas and all unique!!
I was highly impressed with every aspect of the Chop Shop. The customer service was excellent. We had six people in our party, so we tried a lot of dishes and everything was fantastic. Honestly, I cannot remember the last time I had food that good in a restaurant. The atmosphere is friendly and warm. If I lived closer I would eat there on a regular basis. (They also have a butcher, deli, bar, and event space!)
My friend and I LOVED our dinner at the Chop Shop! OMG, delicious! Most of the items on the menu can be made keto-friendly with a few substitutions. Simply order one of their burgers without the bun or the chimichurri steak with a side salad. The quality of the meat is phenomenal - fresh and well-seasoned! If youre not keto, their mashed potatoes are the BEST in the biz - highly recommend! Also, get a margarita from this place - delicious and STRONG! Ill definitely be back! :-)
Concert venue was great. Offered several different vantage points. Was sold out but there was still room to move and they had water stations on the bar!!!!!
5 stars if you’re going for a concert. Had a lot of fun when I saw Terrapin Flyer here. Great beer on tap. 2 stars if you’re going for food. Hostess was unenthusiastic and not very welcoming. Server was friendly and atmosphere was nice. Food wasn’t great. Burger was over cooked and sriracha chicken sandwich was so salty I couldn’t eat it. Cocktails were nothing special. Don’t recommend eating here.
A nice place and the service was great
Fantastic place. The food was great and the service was awesome
Best dining experience Ive had in a long time! Food, service, prices, neighborhood--all great. The variety of meat/cheese/etc on the Butchers Board was impressive, medium rare burger was done just right, servers made great suggestions, and we loved watching the neighborhood scene and the L go by outside. Wish we had another day in Chicago--wed go back here to eat.
Chop Shop is part restaurant, part grocery/deli, and part event space. The space is enormous - great for events or big groups. Its very easy to just stop by here and check out whats happening in the 1st ward (event space) and get some Italian salami to take home.As far as the restaurant is concerned, one word is enough to describe it (or two words?): MEATBALLS! Really exceptionally great meatballs here and I cant wait to go back again for some more.
The Official College Bar of the University of Colorado!Great staff! Great food! Great Prices! And Awesome scene when a game is on the big screen in the back!GO BUFFS!
Have not tried the food but I went here for a music venue and the location is so cute! People were very friendly and having a restaurant next to a music concert is very convenient. Should host more venues for sure!
We paid $28 for two mediocre deli sandwiches :( took forever to get them and they missed some things on the order. Not worth it.
The Chop Shop is the BOMB!! excellent steaks!! service was great, friendly and attentive!!! THE DELI IS GREAT ALSO!! AND HAVING A BUTCHER SHOP TOO BUY SOME OF THE FINEST STEAKS I HAVE EVER BOUGHT TOO TAKE HOME!!! I RECOMMEND!! THE KANSAS CITY CUT STEAK!!!
Really friendly staff. Deli could have a bit more variety. Great beer list lots of local beer food menu is pretty good and tastes great. Well worth going too
What a rad experience as I saw The Packed A.D. a their. Besides having great bands this is a solid venue w/ a solid bar and restaurant as you walk through. The staff are friendly which helps you enjoy the shows.
Really cool venue attached to a sweet place to get your food and drink on. When the acts go one stage, they panel doors leading into the venue space swing wide open, so you can still chill in the bar and still feel part of the action.
Very good place to see bands. Sight lines are nice from everywhere in venue. Has a nice outdoor patio on 2nd floor.
Awkward setup with the deli in the front and bar/event space in the back. The food is fine. Decent bar food. The layout, service, feel, and flow could use some work. Weve been a couple of times for dinner & drinks before a show in the back at 1st Ward Events. The ambiance feels a little cookie cutter or contrived. Weve had some okay bartenders, but some really bad ones as well. Some seem unfamiliar with the drink specials and little features on the menu (like Choose your bitters) and are a little rude and/or disengaged. The cocktails arent very well-balanced and could be more thoughtfully crafted.I guess for what it is, its fine. Not sure Ill be back, unless Im dying to see one of the shows.
I was yesterday to watch the final game of Copa America, event that was promoted in a Brazilian Facebook page. The place is good, however the employees were worried because after the game they would had a concert, so, the people there should leave to prepare for the concert. So bad to be in a place where the employees are not happy to serve you...Second, I spend around $60 in the first tap, however, they didn’t accept to use my card to get one more beer... they said that they only accept card over $20.. I said that I already spend more than this, however the employees were instructed to avoid accept card if you don’t spend more...So bad experience...
I dont understand how this place has over 4 stars. The food was exceptionally greasy (one bite into the burger and grease trailed down my wrist). We also ordered the gnocchi which had minimal flavor. The fries that accompanied the burger were soggy and clumped together. Check out the unappetizing photo (full disclosure: its a personal source of shame that I consumed half of this awful meal). The one shining moment was the meatball appetizer. Ambience and service were perfectly fine. If you are coming here with hopes of quality food, Id recommend going elsewhere.
Try the truffle and steak. I asked for mid-rare, I got the perfect mid-rare. Wished I live closer, this would be my weekly eat out spot.
Made the mistake of coming here on the night of a show. I was given a drink menu by a bartender. It looked fantastic and I had a hard time choosing. However, apparently it was an error as they don’t serve cocktails on the nights of shows. It was a turn off.
We walked in for an early dinner, we were seated immediately on the second floor and service was great throughout the whole visit. I had a great ribeye, tasty and well prepared. After dinner we explored a little and saw the performance space in the rear and the butcher counter in front.
HANDS DOWN THE BEST CONCERT VENUE. Saw a couple of my fav djs here last weekend and this has got to be the best venue. They don’t over sell their shows which allows a lot of room to move and have fun. They also allow you to leave if you are 21+. Had free water stations at the bar which was a major plus. I had 80$ put away just for water for the night but I got to spend it on merch thanks to this 🥰
Good times were had at grateful shred turning into one of my favorite Chicago music venues! Lots other late late night options after dinner or shows blue line damen stop
Decent venue for a show but be weary when paying with a credit card as they will charge you more than you tipped even if you tipped the usual amount. I don’t like dishonest venues so I will not be returning here.
Thoroughly mediocre burgers. It should be easy to cook an 8 oz burger to medium rare, but they struggle with this. On the positive side the flavor was ok without relying too much on salt. Relatively slow service.
Great burger. Music venue in the back is fantastic. Great liquor selection and friendly bartenders
Mercilessly badgered over 20$ minimum bar tab. Stop doing the bidding of your greedy owner. Credit card fees are a fact of life for posh bar owners.
Food was fantastic. Excellent service. Great cocktails and wine selection. I dont know if the roof is one of the best in chicago, but it certainly is cool.
Excellent ambiance and the food was amazing. The restaurant itself is large but really cozy, theres even a stage in the back for concerts.
Super fun venue - been here for a couple of events. Its a deli in the front, and party in the back. They make a delicious bloody mary for the brunch mornings, but also have a solid selection of other drinks. Great for a nice stop in on rainy days!
Great staff, killer brunch.
Our service was par, she only checked on us 4 times in 1.5 hours (arrival, drink order, when we received our food, and if we wanted dessert . Though our food was good, it was not good for the price. I would not come back for thechops! I also got charged for a beer i said Id drink so it didnt go to waste, though I didnt want it, I was just not wasting booze!Place is sweet though, especially the patio!
Umm... This was the best burger Ive ever had. The waitress was so professional, the atmosphere was great, and even the owner was around and a super nice guy. Will definitely be back.
Great food, better music and good vibes
Great place to eat ...they also have a large space for their events...soon as you walk in you see an array of meats and etc...quite dark yet spacious. Its nearby other food places such as a bakery, an empanada place. Ive gone twice, and both times Ive thoroughly enjoyed myself there.
Went for an event in the back room. Nice, open area with easy access to bar. Decent beer selection, did not try any food.
Love coming here for concerts. But as a restaurant, the food is decent and service is eh -_-
