Incredible setup. I didnt know a guitar could be played as effortlessly as mine now can. Great pricing, even fixed a minor issue with my guitars volume knob free of charge. Will definitely be coming back with my other instruments!
Doug was great! He was very accommodating of my schedule, he did an amazing job with my guitar, he was friendly and nice, and it was really well priced. More than I couldve asked for and I will definitely be going back.
Fab guitar guru. Doug can repair anything.
Got a couple guitars touched up here and I dont think they played this well even out of the factory. Doug is a wizard, even installed a mod (just a killswitch, but still) exactly to my specification! Definitely going to be a regular customer.
Doug and crew have done what very little work I cannot do myself after 40 years of playing. His professional training and personally acquired skills are the very best offered in the tri state. I am simply amazed with his talents. Over time they have become so much more than a service. They have become my friends and take a very personal interest in my well being. Truly great folks. In particular Doug has contributed greatly to the work on my whacked out hybrid Taylor solid body. Your in the best of care at Dougs place with no need for you to go anyplace else. Thanks, Mike Burke
Doug is a knowledgable and experienced luthier; I take my acoustic and hollowbody electric guitars to him for restringing and setup. I am very happy with his work and service over the past 3+ years, and highly recommend his service.
The quality of Dougs work is second to none. Ive brought him some guitars in pretty bad shape over the years and hes done wonders with them.Even on basic setups, hes been able to diagnose issues with my hardware and make sure theyre mitigated. Most recently, I had a wrap-around bridge on a cheap guitar and the default posts were sitting too high for the action I wanted out of it.He was able to drill into the body a bit and seat the posts lower. You cant even visually tell that such a procedure was done. It plays fantastically now, especially considering how cheap of a guitar it was.His fretwork is also unrivaled. I had him do a stainless steel refret on one of my 7-strings a few years ago and the result was so much better than even the factory frets. Smooth, crowned properly, leveled, and 0 buzz or intonation issues.Cannot recommend him enough.
Doug and the whole crew were awesome. They got me in and finished same day after I messed up a pickup replacement and restring on my guitar. Not only did he clean up my mess, he made several adjustments and now the guitar plays amazingly. If you need any guitar repairs, this guy is pro and I highly recommend him.
Wonderful people here. They offer the very best of the best. Highest quality service anywhere in the USA.
Top notch work, I dont think I will go anywhere else. Stellar job getting my mess of a project playing like butter! I will be back!
This couple makes me wish I had 100 broke guitars! What a pleasure to deal with and top notch repair work! Definitely highly recommend!
Slow & steady... A good habit when working on musical instruments.
They are the best in this part of the country. They are NOT hacks. Am confident my experience is the norm, not the exception.
A good place. Doug has fixed a few of my guitars - glued top and back on vintage arch top, fixed cracked bracing, cracked top. Doug is very personable and friendly. Highly competent. Highly recommended.
Good directions
Doug is an awesome luthier who has been doing a great job for a long time. He will do exactly what you want and have it turned around quickly. The consignment store inside also has a great selection for such a modest number of items. Highly recommend stop if youre a musician looking for gear.
Fantastic service and associates with really good prices on their services.
Simply the best. Wonderful people and great service
I am a beginning guitarist and, having reached the point of tackling barre chords, finally had to spend the money to have my electric guitar setup. My only previous experience with Doug Frye was to ask him to plug my instrument into one of his amplifiers to see if it truly survived the flood I have been trying to recover from for the last four years. He was happy to do so without charge, and I decided then and there that if I ever needed work done on my instrument, I owed him. It was a great decision. My experience at Dmara was absolutely the most satisfying I could have hoped for! Doug treated my starter guitar (Peavey Raptor EXP) as if it were a $3,000 instrument. I honestly dont think he would have been--or could have been--more careful or caring if he were working on Eric Claptons guitar. He adjusted each component until it was just the way he knew it should be. All of my questions were answered without a hint of condescension and the only additional charge, aside from the labor cost, was for a new set of strings which was comparable to what Id pay at any music store or even online.Im not a paid reviewer and I have nothing to gain from this--or any review. I have no connection to Dmara or Doug Frye, but I do value sincerity, honesty and fine craftsmanship and believe it is my responsibility to reward and recognize it when I see it. I always read online reviews and wonder if they are genuine; this one is.To quote a local car dealer, with all you get at Dmara: Why go anywhere else?
My first time visiting Doug with a used bass I had purchased where the wiring was less-than-ideal. Doug was immediately attentive and charged an incredibly fair price to re-solder and check all the connections. Excellent customer service and attention. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
Took my Fender (Crafted in China) Bass I bought from pawn shop to Doug. Took home a completely different bass guitar that looks, sounds and feels like a brand new instrument. The action adjustment turned it in to one of the smoothest and easy playing bass guitars that Im sure Ill ever own. Youll be glad you came. Very reasonable price for certified Luthier and an obvious professional.
Ive had five guitars set up by Doug, two guitars re-fretted, and one twelve -string acoustic get a bridge repair. All resulted in my guitars playing much better for a reasonable price. Im glad i got my guitars repaired instead of buying new ones. There are also some interesting guitars for sale in the store.
After several recommendations from friends, I first took my Strat which was really out of setup. I had not played it in a very long time. I brought new strings and when I got it back, it was better than new. I then brought in a 12-string guitar which was very hard to play. Again, brought my strings and when I got it back it was as sweet as it could be. I now have played it every day since I got it back and no more wrist pain from it. The people in the store couldnt be nicer!! I am a very happy customer!!
Wonderful people with some incredible gear for highly reasonable prices. Go here.
Did a fantastic job! Guitar plays better than ever before.
So far so good, will keep updated on the repair..... Neck reset on Martin D35. Took almost a year, but worth the wait. Better than factory set.
Im very particular about my gear. And I dont let just anyone work on it. .The staff here was pleasant, knowledgeable and did the work I needed quickly. I will continue to give them my business.
Doug did great work on my old 12 string guitar that needed quite a bit of finesse to get it playing correctly. Now it plays better than ever. Thanks Doug for saving this guitar.
If you are looking for someone you can trust with your prized ax, Doug and Mara fit the bill.
Always on point. Doug is the best. I have counted on him many times and he always comes thru. Martin, Gibson, Ovation everything I break he fixes.
First off the people there were very nice and friendly. The guitar i bought was a rough craigslist find, what they gave me back after they worked on it is a beautiful sounding shredding machine.I give my honest appreciation for a job well done.
Doug set up my Alvarez while I waited. Got to observe the work and have a great conversation besides!! Ill be heading out there again soon!!
Great people, Best guitar shop in town.
Doug really is the only guy I trust with my guitars. Great quality work. Respectable pricing. What more could you ask for. Keep up the great work Doug and Ms. Doug.
I took my guitar here for my first ever professional setup and I now regret all the years I spent trying to do it myself. After just one basic setup at the hands of Doug Frye, luthier, my Fender Strat plays like a new (actually better than new) instrument. I will definitely be returning here with my other guitars for the same treatment. The staff were also delightful and friendly. This shop is a diamond in the rough.
Was a really nice to go to a place where they know what they doing I have took a number of guitars for him the fix Just nice to know that you can go somewhere Are you wont be
Friendly staff. Their attention to detail is amazing and they treat your gear like it was their own. Never a negative experience in 9+ years
My 1969 Jose Ramirez 1A was damaged by UPS and Doug repaired it nicely. He’s a knowledgeable expert craftsman and very reasonably priced.
Good place to go for all your needs. Thanks Dave
Very cool guitars and best service we have ever had. Extremely knowledgeable.
Ive had a lot of my guitars repaired by Doug throughout the years. Doug is a true professional and a genuinely good individual!!! Always pleased with the quality of his work!!!
Had a pickup replaced on my Strat here, did an excellent job. Price and work done was great. Currently have a Jazzmaster in there getting worked on as well, expect great things.
Had good service for a couple years for electronics and fretwork, then found scratches and dings in my PRS headstock as well as a mildew smell that took weeks to dissipate. They turn the AC off at night FYI. They even tried to buff the dings out Im assuming to hide it. Took me a minute to discover it. Take your working gear there maybe, but not your prized axes...
Great place to have your guitar worked on or just visit and hang out
Doug is the only person who works on my instruments. Has always done a great job.
Doug fixed up Ellie Mae she sounds and plays like she never has. Thank you
One and only place to take your guitar for a setup or repair.
Doug is the man, best in the Cincy area!
I had a guitar nut replaced here. I had two sets of strings in my case, some how they decided to put the strings for my electric guitar on my acoustic. You get what you pay for.
Just let him take care of your guitars!
Only person that will work on my guitars from now on
