I am blown away by my experience at White Wolf. Everything is both visually appealing and breathtakingly delicious. The brilliant Chef Doran and his team really know what theyre doing, providing delicious treats and cocktails with professional and friendly service. I implore anyone who loves tasty treats to check this place out. You will not regret it!!!
This place has excellent cakes and dessert. So far Ive tried four different menus and all of them were above average beside the crepe cake. The staff were super friendly and helpful, explaining the menu items when asked. Seating area was spacious and the interior was excellent. I wouldve given 5 stars if their beverages were better. Lattes and teas arent bad but compared to their desserts, I have to say, the expectations were higher. Overall would highly recommend!
Visited for the first time today and I was highly impressed. The place inside is organized and it’s clean. We got a to go order of the garlic bread rolls which were good warmed up. Then for desert we ordered chestnut mont blanc and a chocolate orange mille crepe cake and both were delicious. The chestnut desert was a little less sweet which we liked and the crepe cake was smooth and rich. We also got two macaroons, the orange cranberry and the lemon ginger which was the best thing I ate from here, so good!
So before I got a chance to actually write my full review the owners were quick to respond and ask questions. That is awesome. So let me start with the place was beautiful and the service was amazing. Price was fair as well. My wife and I got a whole lot of stuff. 2 macaroons, chocolate Swiss roll, chocolate crape cake, lemon yuzu cheese cake and a chi tea. The tea was really flavorful, and the macaroons were really good as well. Now the cakes to me were all lacking flavor. I definitely could taste the flavors but they were real subtle. The cheesecake wasnt as smooth as expected. Now my wife enjoyed all of it.
Possibly the best macaroons I’ve Ever had! So delicate, incredible lightness, so delicious with incredible flavor. Also tried their delicious bread stuffed with smoked bacon and gruyere, again, incredibly light, moist and delicious. Matcha layered cake also divine! Can’t wait to come back, perfect dessert spot right next to Noble Fish ♥️
Birthday cake is super good, and very big. Strawberry shortcake is very good.
I had the opportunity to visit during the soft opening today and it was an amazing experience! The atmosphere was awesome, with places to sit as a group at tables or at a counter, watching the bakers bake. Its a weird call-out, but their chairs were way more comfy than was I was expecting. Would not mind staying the day in them. The latte I ordered tasted great, as well as the breads that I got to try: melon pan and cheese pan. Be warned, these two are amazingly sweet! The staff were super nice & approachable and the bakers area was fun to watch - especially if you get in early to see them baking and designing pastries. The bathrooms were oddly enough another highlight of my time. Chalkboard walls were definitely the way to go! Not to mention someone had their time making an amazing wolf portrait (seriously, it as great.)Im so excited for their full launch, really hoping to try more food out and get to chill in those comfy chairs once more 😄
Love this place. Its so relaxing and laid bake. I like watching the work their magic in the kitchen.
Im kinda disappointed in how my matcha was prepared. I was handed pure matcha paste in a cup that was completely concentrated. I had to tell her that was not the right way to prepare it. Its supposed to be vigorously stirred with the whisk after the paste is made with more hot water until froth is formed. She asked for assistance from the manager to which she was told just to fill it with more water. There was no froth and the powder was still clumpy in the end.
Good Coffee!Pleasant staff.Comfortable atmosphere.Got some desserts to take home, havent tried them yet.
Modern patisserie with walls you can right over. The bathroom is very clean and nice. You can watch them make their products right in front of you during your visit. It’s nice that you can literally see what is going inside what you are ordering. It’s a good place to study and relax as well as unwind after a rough day. My friends typically spend a few hours during the week at this place and are starting to become obsessed with the products. It’s a hidden gem but I hope this review reaches the locals and you take the time to try it out.
Coffee was great, nice decor and wide variety of pastries. However I didn’t find the staff to be the friendliest on my visit with my daughters. There was actually only one employee in fact that greeted me as she was exiting the kitchen. I didn’t catch her name but very kind and great style, wearing platinum dread locks. I point this out only to state how important it is to remind front of house staff of the importance of excellent customer service ievery time with Every Guest!I would have loved to have my dessert on a separate plate and have the sandwiches plated on a smaller plate or something more than a singular miniature carrot. The plate design is beautiful, yet too big for what was plated. Therefor my first impression with the staff and having my items plated together detracted from my overall experience. Being that this is not authentic Japanese it would probably be more suited to market as fushion food in order not to confuse guest looking for an authentic experience. 4 Stars!
Great food and great service every time Ive visited. Quickly became one of my favorite places to quiet a craving. Id recommend the strawberry shortcake!
I am amazed! The staff member I encountered, was very intelligent about all of their offerings. He asked me in a perfect manner if I abstained from any ingredients, which I did, and he knew the ingredients of each dish and made me aware. I am very happy with type of service. I will be returning here! Not to mention the desserts were perfectly delightful! I enjoyed each dessert and the coffee pairing as well. Money well spent!
Japanese-French take on a cafe. Beautiful and lip smacking treats/coffee/teas. love the cups and plates they use. Feels very high end but price is reasonable for the offerings. They have added cocktails to their menu! They are fantastic, my favorite is the spicy prickly pear margarita. They are open till 11pm on weekends and 10pm on week nights. I must also recommend their house infused Soju. You will not find this type of Soju anywhere else in the metro area!
This place makes you feel like youve stepped into a patisserie in Chicago. MY GAWD everything was outstanding. We had the opportunity to speak with the Chef and Creator. He is so passionate about what he does and you can see and taste that in his creations. They not only looke amazing, they taste even better. Applauding your hard work and efforts my friend! ALSO THE STAFF was INCREDIBLE. We will be back..... a lot :)
Their pastry n coffee are always good. I do hope their mocha latte has more mocha flavor n a bit less creamy. I do think the cream overtake the mocha.
This place is so cool. A true gem! They have chefs making in house pastries behind glass in view behind the seated bar area. The baristas are always friendly, and the coffee is very good. They also have a nice little Cafe for studying or socializing, and an outdoor seated section for nice days
The place is really beautiful and the service was great. I tried their Strawberry Crepe Cake and Chi tea. The cake was very subtly flavored. They specialize in crepe cakes but they have other desserts to order. They have a variety of coffees and teas. I ordered a Matcha Crepe Cake for a friend’s Birthday and everyone loved it. The cake was perfectly balanced between sweet and bitterness from the Matcha. You could taste the matcha flavor but it was not dominating. I am glad i ordered this cake. Would Highly recommend!!!
My sesame banana bread was delicious and my pistachio latte wasn’t too sweet! Super friendly staff took all my questions in stride and were super helpful. Can’t wait to come back.
Every dessert I bought was raved about. It was absolutely delicious. Definitely a special treat for me and the family. A little pricey though, so its not something I get all the time.Service was great and the staff was really friendly!
Not only is White Wolf absolutely gorgeous and impeccably clean, each and every item they make is wonderful. I’m not saying this after a couple of visits. White Wolf is on my “once per week,” visit list. The tiramisu is one of best I’ve ever tasted. Both crepe cakes are stunning in their design and taste as good as they look. And now they’re offering lunch. I’ve only tried the curry rice, but it was beautiful. Every item is made with precision & care. If I could live here, I would.
Checked out WWJP and had an incredible time meeting the friendly staff and chatting with Chef Doran. His vision for the brand and how to give back to the community is inspiring. The coffee/tea program is amazing, along with all the French/Japanese inspired treats that are made fresh in-house. Such menu items like decadent Matcha Cheesecake, savory Curry Pan, Katsu Sando, and even a variety of macaroons are worth ordering. My fav drink items have been their Cortado and Matcha Latte. My next drink items will be their Hojicha Latte and Nitro Cold Brew. Perfect location to bring your friends, family, and colleagues. They have plenty of street/plaza parking, indoor seating and coffee beans/tea/swag for purchase. Will def be back to order more things to try!
Super cute neighborhood cafe and patisserie! The lattes are top-notch! I love the roasted pistachio steamer or latte. The staff is really friendly, and the drinks and pastries are always delicious. While its definitely not cheap, its worth it an always worth a stop!
Amazing chestnut mont blanc
White Wolf used to impress me with their lovely ambiance and wide selection of desserts. However, as of even before the pandemic, I have found that the quality of their desserts has greatly diminished. From stale macarons to soggy tart shells, I found myself becoming more and more disappointed over time. The biggest issue I found was when I got their chocolate raspberry chiffon cake as my birthday cake, but when we cut into the cake, the bottom layer was incredibly soggy and the flavor of the raspberries tasted old. I understand that freezing cakes and using preserved ingredients is a common practice in the patisserie world and while I do not mean to assume that this is what they are doing, but the fact remains that the cakes feel as if they have been treated in this way, and poorly at that. All in all, White Wolf is a cafe that does indeed provide a pretty Instagram story, but I think that the quality of the desserts do not qualify the hefty price tags. Still wish them the best and hope they restore their quality soon!
We went to White Wolf last weekend. Its a very nice store - new, modern, open, bright. We went on a morning so there were quite a few people in the store either ordering food/drinks or enjoying their treats at the tables. It was a bit noisy. We think the walls are reflecting the noises so it makes is hard to have a quiet conversation. I ordered a matcha latte. It tasted amazing. Not too sweet like what you would get in Starbucks. You can taste a gentle bitterness in the end. Thats the way I like my green tea flavored drinks! I also tried their melon pan. Totally reminded me of Japan. Very authentic.
Front counter ladies were so incredibly pleasant and knowledgeable on all the desserts! My husband and I each ordered 2 items && OHEMGEE!!! Absolutely amazing! Texture, taste, visibly appealing!! I really can’t say enough about the desserts or the wonderful ladies who served us =]
Stopped in this morning to grab some pastries for breakfast, the decor is bright and friendly, very clean on the inside, with plenty of seating. We had melon pan, anpan, curry bread, and some macarons. Everything tasted very fresh, and quite delicious. The bean buns were light, fluffy, and had just the right amount of sweetness. The curry bread was a favorite among the family, chewy dough, lightly crisp panko crust, and perfect curry filling. Look forward to the next time we stop in!
Interesting place, and so much more to try. The croissant sandwich was great and the tea was amazing. Looking forward to coming back for some of the sweets.
I bought one cheesecake and one matcha mille crepe to go, and paid about $13. However, I got home and found only one matcha mille crepe was in the box.I didn’t go back to the shop because I couldn’t prove it if I showed them, and didn’t have a receipt as I chose “no receipt” on the cashier machine. (Furthermore, my house is not close to the shop.)I was really disappointed. The staff should show their customers the goods they bought before closing the cake box so they don’t make such mistakes.—The following is my previous review—The atmosphere was nice and there were much more seats than I expected. I sat at the counter so I was able to see them use organic products, which was great and I assume that’s why their food is expensive. The bread of the egg sandwich felt dry in my mouth. I prefer moist bread just like real Japanese egg sandwich.
Always wanted to check this place out. I finally was able to and I do not regret it. I was a little nervous to pick a pastry because it was nothing I was familiar with. I ended up going with something called a Cocoa Swiss Roll. I loved every bite. The cake part was dense and moist. The entire thing was great because it wasn’t overly sweet like a lot of traditional American cake is.The interior was cute and I also liked that their utensils are compostable.
I don’t even usually care for sweets, but the tiramisu here was incredible and so was the coffee. Very relaxed atmosphere and the staff was bubbly and helpful.
There is New York Cheesecake to deep dive with Titanic Ballast, and then there is too this sublime fluffy flavor soaked cheesecake that follows and cools next doors sushi perfectly.
I really wish I could give this bakery 5 stars. Let’s start with the good. The interior is modern and the company is forward thinking about their carbon footprint. The americano coffee is delicious and the presentation of the mocha is beautiful. The matcha green tea cheesecake is also delicious and the creme brûlée is wonderful. Fast wifi and comfortable seating is also a plus. However, there are 2 big problems with this bakery. First is that their hours are too limited which have caused me to go elsewhere on several occasions. Many people work until 5 so having a closing time at 5-6 is not a great idea for sales. Sunday closing at 3 also seems to be too soon. Secondly, the desserts are priced too high for the small portions that you get. The creme brûlée is $5 and for that you get a dessert smaller than your palm, very disappointing. Similar bakeries charge the same price for a creme brûlée twice the size with a comparable taste profile.
Excellent pastries and was one of the few places to find baking supplies during the COVID-19 pandemic. Luckily I still had plenty of flour, but yeast was sold out at every store I visited.Their Matcha Mille Crepe cake is wonderful and we order it almost every time. I can also only say good things about their Tiramisu and Yuzu-Lemon Souffle Cheesecake. Honestly, its hard to imagine you could really go wrong here. Also, if youre looking for some Japanese pastries, they offer an excellent Shokupan for day to day use as well as pull apart rolls filled with both red bean and custard. The only downside here is that their coffee isnt perfect, but its still pretty good and definitely above average. They have a reasonably wide range of teas available as well.
Delicious pastries and drinks. The ambience of the store is wonderful. All their breads are worth a try for sure ✨
I absolutely adore this place! It’s aesthetically pleasing and very clean. The barista was very friendly helpful and answered our questions as it’s our first time visiting. We ordered the honey lavender latte with oat milk & roasted pistachio latte with almond milk. Both drinks were delicious, the flavors weren’t overpowering the other. It was a good balance of taste. We also got the matcha azuki Swiss roll, and the taste was also excellent. It wasn’t too sweet, and the roll was fresh and moist. Although the price was a bit on the higher end, the ingredients and eco friendly environment products they use is worth it. I would definitely come visit again!
Great coffee shop! Its bigger than what I thought it would be. Great place for meetings or studying. They also have Blakes Hard Cider and various treats from small businesses. I love that! And of course, great coffee. Please check it out!
Just tried this place for the first time. Only had the Pistachio Latte and a small taste of my sons macaroon. The latte was sooo good I had to get another one the day after and realize its close enough to my work that I might have to make regular coffee stops. The macaroon was delicious too and Im not normally a fan of them. I cant talk about price because while it seemed expensive for a small coffee it was worth the cost and probably equal to Starbucks prices but at a better quality. Ill be back to try more of their products.
Friendly employees and delicious food especially pastries. Nice welcoming vibe.
Amazing Tiramisu... it is definitely and experience worth to live
Some items were tasty but very sugary unlike many Japanese confections. Natural flavors like matcha green tea and bean paste were subdued. The concept is great but I was underwhelmed.White Wolf appears to be overrated. I may try it again but overall my first try was expensive and disappointing.
I would give this place more stars if I could. I’ve tried their macarons, tiramisu, cake roll... everything has been amazing. Their vegan berry cheesecake was too die for - tasted just like a legit cheesecake. I’ve been blown away by every treat, and it doesn’t hurt that their coffee is great, too. Wonderful ambience and makes for a cute spot to meet a friend or get some work done.
Nice place. Clean. Tasty food, parking was a little scarce.. but I went on a Saturday.
*Update: If the store admit their quality does not meet their own standard, should I get my money back?It was really good before. Their cake was amazing. But the strawberry short cake made today (Sep 11, 2020) was really not good! The cake was very watery and the strawberries inside was not fresh. Very disappointed this time. Especially for almost 8 dollars for a little cake I am expecting a lot better! I only gave 3 stars because of this experience. It was 5 stars before.
Slow service! 25 min for 3 coffees
Started coming here for speciality after dinner treats. Amazing place and friendly customer service.
Really cute, upscale atmosphere. Great service, amazing food and the coffee is on point! Will be back to visit this little gem in Clawson!
White wolf is my favorite bakery! The staff is very friendly and everything on the menu is absolutely scrumptious! I would recommend the tiramisu, matcha crepe cake, or a pistachio latte!
Honestly this is amazing! One of my favorite pastry places. Everything isnt too sweet, and just right. My family and I love this place and will come back again when we can! I tried the strawberry crepes and it has a really nice texture!
The White Wolf is a café that offers Japanese pastry, breads, coffees and teas just like the ones I tried on my trip to Japan. The breads are so fresh that I could smell them from the trunk in my car. The melon bread has the same flavor as the one I had in Mount Fuji. The price is on high side but its definitely worth it.There were some Japanese customers eating there, which tells me that everything is done right.
They always have inventive drinks, like their Valentines Day special with beetroot to make it pink!
Even though I messed up my pick up date they were able to accommodate me with little hastle
Wonderful customer service, their desserts and matcha lattes are heavenly, top notch product..its worth the drive (to those in Clawson, you are so lucky!!) Much love to the baristas and Chef Doran (yes, you have spoiled me forever)!!
Prices are definitely high, but everything was good.
A lil pricey for my liking. but worth every penny so far. you get what you pay for. which is good service and even better pastries. very nice decor, spacious, clean and bright. oh and the lattes are delicious too.
The coffee here is smooooooth, like drinking velvet! Ive tried almost all of their desserts and you cant go wrong here, their crepe cake is exactly as good as it sounds.
Beautiful inside and very friendly customer service, good drinks/food.
Amazing place with delicious pastries and drinks. Staff is always friendly and the customer service is outstanding.
I think all the desserts are amazing here. I think I have bought most of them. Soo goood. Give it a go you guys. 🥰
Try the tiramisu!
Just stumbled into this patisserie by chance today. Had a Matcha Mille Crepe to go and was blown away. Cant wait to return to try everything else on their menu.
Doran reached out immediately to my wife and me. He discussed our experience with us. Then outlined updates to curbside service and offered to make things right by repeating our order. We took him up on that yesterday and the experience was smooth and rapid. The pastries here are unique and amazing (both trips as well as during other stop overs before shutdown). Im very glad to see a responsive who wants to make the experience better for everybody. Recommend without hesitation.
This is such a nice place! I was told about White Wolf by one of my friends and I had to check it out! The place is clean and spacious and the desserts are so tasty and the presentation of them is absolutely gorgeous! You can tell they put a lot of thought and work into them! Ill definitely be coming back and telling all my friends about this place! I cant wait to try more cakes and coffee!
Had the Strawberry Shortcake and see strawberry multi-layered crepe cake. This is got to be some of the best dessert I have had in a long time! Highly recommend this place to anyone with a sweet tooth, a love for cool creamy treats and superb coffee. Enjoy!
Awesome, coffee drink was one of the best I have had and the pastries, yummy!
Incredible flavor combinations, master works, highly recommend trying everything. White wolf Russians were delicious, top of their game in cocktails and pastries. A+++
The highest quality pastries and coffee in Clawson. Was pleasantly surprised they now offer a cocktail menu. Was even more surprised how good their whiskey sour was
The simplicity and beauty of the place speaks for itself, as soon as you walk in your greeted happily by people ready to take your order and help you with any questions you may have I would do 10 Stars if I could but it only lets me do five
A nice local modern Japanese french fusion coffee and bakery. Counter seating along the open kitchen gives a nice view of how fresh and tasty their items are. Nice atmosphere to either just enjoying a desert and coffee to other food that smelled and looked delicious .Customer tip, drop off any carried items to your seat prior to ordering as some combination of items could be difficult to carry back to your seat, or just take more than one trip to bring your items back.
I came to this place for my birthday based on the reviews. I love Japanese bakeries. The place was more pricey than other Asian bakeries (some of their cake double the price). I wouldn’t mind the price if the cake was any good. The cake looked amazing for a selfie at best but god forbid you make the mistake of trying it, it is too sweet and lack any sense of good taste and expect a good stomachache after (I am still having one after eating one of their cakes). I can’t highlight how furious I am as I drove 35 minutes to get there while I had way better Japanese bakery 10 minuets away from my home that has better tasting products at half the price (real Japanese). Don’t waste ur money, this place is NOT Japanese. I been to japan for over 10 times and been to many cross the country and by far I can say even the over the shelf cake I would buy from 7/11 there in Japan is a million time better than anything they have in this place. One additional thing, I saw the owner response to justify their ridiculously high prices. I been to Japanese and Korean bakeries in Chicago, NYC, and LA, even the most expensive one of these stores wouldn’t come close to sell the a piece of cake for $8.
The food received full 2 stars. My review is for the flat/unfriendly customer service I encountered last Wednesday. It was my friends birthday and I wanted to get something nice for him since he worked that night. I asked if they had the cream puff and the server had no idea what I was talking about and asked if I ever purchased one before because he never saw it made since he started working there. So I showed him a picture from my last visit and he told me that he saw something familiar made yesterday, but whatever they had today was in the display case. I ordered five items and initially, I thought he would either put each cake in separate box or all in one big container, but he kinda squeezed two Millie cakes in one small box and a shortcake with two creme brulee in big box. I asked for two extra small boxes so I could split them up when I got home and packed as a gift. He looked at me uncomfortably weird. After the purchase, he did not give me a bag until I asked and he just stood behind the counter again looking at me putting my own boxes into the bag which I did not mind but your shop wasnt busy at all. I also noticed that he carried the cakes with bare hands, no gloves nor a bakery tong, and he touched the screen, the counter, boxes, etc... I like the patisserie and hope that some items would be made like daily, and friendlier staff would be nice.
