Twice now I have sent these guys a stack of vinyl LPs to clean, and twice they have done excellent work. Russ is the guy to contact. He has a multi-tiered pricing plan, and a variety of top cleaning machines. I found what suited me, and for a great price, he made 50-year-old records sound like new again.
I initially contacted Russ to preview a set of speakers that I was specifically searching for. When I arrived they were arranged in an ideal listening position and connected to a robust integrated amp ready for preview. We listened for about 10 minutes or so. The speakers I came for were not quite to my taste, or whatever I thought they would sound like based on a multitude of online reviews. So after some discussion he brought out and previewed several other pairs of bookshelf and floorstanding speakers. 3 or 4 sets of speakers later, I located a loudspeaker that fit the sound that I was looking for, something around the same price-point but with different acoustic properties. And thats the excellence of the Sound Rep experience...the freedom to sit and listen to your music with no pressure to move on, no upselling, just sitting in comfort and absorbing what the equipment has to offer.Sitting and listening to speakers, amplifiers, and records in Russ listening studio was a phenomenal experience not to be found anywhere else. So much great gear from only worthwhile manufacturers. His involvement and decades-long tenure in the Hi-fi world cant be understated and his music-first approach to selecting gear is really unique in the modern era of spec-obsessed online reviews, and even worse...big-box purchasing experiences (insert Barf emoji and/or zombie emoji). If youre looking for a unique listening session and someone to aid in selecting the right system for your interests, look no further and make an appointment with Russel Katz. -Evan, Washington D.C.
