OMG! Where has this place been this entire time! Apparently, its been right here in Costa Mesa. 😊The selection is amazing and yes! They are very cheap! Selections start at $2.50. Of course, these are used DVDs and Blue Rays but they will exchange it if it skips. They also buy but I havent done that yet. I am definitely planning on selling many out of my collection.The staff was very nice even though we went in a few minutes before closing time. They were willing to help find the movies Id been looking for and did it with enthusiasm. If the enthusiasm was driven by closing time, it certainly didnt feel like it. Thumbs up! Awesome! 😊

Probably one of the cleanest, most organized and more diverse bookstores Ive ever been to. They have everything sorted by category: from used manga in Japanese (that practically looks brand new, if were being honest), to manga in English, childrens books in Japanese and English, action figures (new ones), video games (both used and brand new), video game consoles, musical instruments, DVD and Blu-Ray movies, music CDs, and even fiction and non fiction books in English. The staff is friendly and courteous and you can even bring your own stuff to be evaluated and sold for money (that part is hit or miss, sometimes you get a fair amount for them but also once I brought about 8 different books and I got like 3.15 for them, so thats up to you if you take the money or keep your books and donate them or something).

Love this place, they generally have what Im looking for in regards to popular books in English. They also cater to a Japanese speaking audience as well. Initially, on my first visit, I was expecting this business to only cater to foreign language books and graphic novels. I was sadly mistaken and totally surprised at how good this place is. They have so much great stuff here. In addition, they sell lightly used electronics and game consoles which they thoroughly check before accepting. In addition, the staff is extremely polite, cheerful and happy. If you are also into audio, this is your place.

A very tightly run Japanese used bookstore chain. Not just books though--CDs, DVDs, Electronics, Musical Instruments, etc. Their always friendly and professional staff are available to help you find just the right item. Even if youre not into Manga you have to browse their selection. Im certain it has to be the best you could find anywhere.

You have to wear a mask, which I find annoying, but I get it (Im fully vaccinated). Everyone has to do it so its ok. Great place if youve got books, DVDs, electronics to sell. Not many places to do that anymore. Very good selection of DVDs to buy.

Nice Japanese book for good prices

Truly a gem in Southern California. Bookoff is super popular in Japan, mostly for comics and dvds but here you get everything from English books to comics to hardware, all for pretty affordable prices. Books are super affordable and I love that they make it so everyone can read. Kudos!!!!

They hardly paid for a book, they were unclear and not upfront about things. I hauled two big boxes worth of books and was only paid $13 dollars. Its not worth the effort, you might as well donate your books.

Love Bookoff. Sometimes its hard to get what Im looking for but I like seeing if somethings available this week that wasnt last time I was there.

Yeah, some of the items are overpriced and they give you pennies for some classics that you know they will sell for far more, but that is expected of places like these. (and there are fewer and fewer places like these!) Book Off has much more positive common denominators than negative. You can get lucky and find a rare movie you were looking for at a decent price. You can get super cheap movies that you may only watch once but for $2.00 or less, its worth the gamble. Rare keeper movies that I found at Book Off from my list of movies I wanted: (all for a nice price) Gasss, The Skeleton Returns, (sequel to The Skeleton Of Cadeveras- which I already own- and just as funny!) April Fools Day, (the 1980 dark satire/horror) not the forgettable star studded slasher from the 90s) House 2, (I own House but House 2 is wackiest and funnier) and too many others to name. In addition, the staff has always been professional, yet warm. My go-to! Pro tip: at this location, at each shelf of used movies there is a drawer. Pull that out and you will find many more movies. It takes time, but its worth it! That is where I found The Skeleton Returns and other interesting movies I bought that day. When I go to Book-Off I budget extra time to be able to rummage through these drawers.

I love books!This location has 50% Japanese 50% American items.If you are looking for Japanese books and stuff, I think Gardena location has the biggest selection.

Good selections of toys. The only downside and what really makes me really sad and hesitant to go is they jacked up their prices! Its almost like they are trying to compete with ebay on who can dupe the most unsuspecting innocent customer ever. They were very good at helping poor collectors like me in The past, but now... This bookoff just caters to rich collectors who can afford them, i guess its some kind of trophy or stature thing..very sad indeed.

Selection of items is astounding ranging from used AV gear to original Xbox games to Japanese language books to anime/manga (both English and Japanese) plus figurines. Great place to browse and full of interesting used stuff.

Any merchandise that is not manga or comic books are not super organized aside from being set into categories (i.e. gunpla were grouped, a few nerf guns were grouped, action figures were grouped up), but otherwise a very nice and organized shop. Very large manga selection of original Japanese prints and English translations, as well as a large selection of Japanese books. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Would visit again.

A decent used book, dvd, game, and electronics store.Their buying policy changes often, so check before bringing in tons of items they used to buy, but not anymore. (Those items you can try to sell at their sister branch, EcoTown.) Dont expect them to buy for much - like $0.25 for a movie or less. See local pawn shops and compare.Bargains can be found, like a camera or game priced below market, but youll need to bottom dig and wait.Prices on movies are all over. Same bluray can be priced $4.99, $7.99, and $12.99 at the same time. In general, prices have been rising with some used discs more than new!?? Years ago, their $1.99, $4.99 pricing was best, not today in general - you have to dig and wait for the bargain.Anyways, local libraries selling used media and books are often better priced.

I was very disappointed in the customer service of this store. The employees were very rude to their customers. I witnessed an employee argue with a customer about not wearing a mask the customer told the employee that she was fully vaccinated but the employee made the customer leaveI am never going to step foot this store again.

What a great little find. This place is not only a used book store. It has a vast selection of Blue Ray, DVDs, Anime, Pop culture items, even music equipment. Its overwhelming, but in a very good way. I could spend hours browsing. The store was very clean and well organized.

Awesome way to get rid of old dvds

The variety of items is awesome and they buy almost anything from you. It might not be a ton of money, but the service is there if you need it.

Could use a weekend completely closed to allow for the employees to give the business a full G.I. cleaning. Live the BOOKOFF store(s) but yeah... just sayin.

This bookoff has a lot less books than the gardena store. I might just stick with the other bookoff.

What an amazing store to buy sell find interesting items. Anime all the way to Japanese books and Legos and cartoon characters as well as Nintendo DSs and game consoles. Two books to anything you could ever imagine besides kitchen appliances and name brand bags. They have guitars and everything what an awesome place I look forward to coming back. Stuart was very kind and customer service oriented and made me laugh constantly with his witty humor and amazing Customer Care. Thank you for the great experience I shall be back again to buy some more stuff after selling you guys some of my other books I have at home this place is definitely worth the drive

What a cool little place to buy used books. A hidden gem. I had to give them a try so I went in looking for book on wine and they had pretty much more than I needed I was pleasantly surprised and the prices of the books were so affordable.... they even had a clearance section.... The people in the store were a great helpers very sweet and kind I couldnt ask for more I love Barnes & Noble but this place really was perfect for what I needed. I will be back!!

Good products for a decent price over here in lakewood city is cheaper way cheaper but this spot has some okay stuff for a decent price except that plastic turtle for a couple hundreds thats ridiculous ahaha.

As a buyer, this place is great. Huge selection, great prices, and sales every so often that help your dollar go further. The discs that Ive gotten here are all like new.As a seller, I wouldnt bring stuff here. I brought in a bunch of old TV series on DVD, many of them sealed, and was offered 2 dollars for 14 of them. It didnt even cover the gas it took to get out there.

I Cant Believe They Have A Book Off In California. I Love Book Off, I Used To Go To The Book Off In Hawaii All The Time. One Of My Favorite Stores!!!This location does not have air conditioning, its so hot. But I did find lots of awesome DVDS. Great prices.

Ive been to 3 or 4 Book Offs. This is by far the nicest. It is very clean, very organized, and has a lot of quality books, movies, components, and collectibles. You can even find some decent prices on many things. Their buyback sucks....might as well be Gamestop for books, but for buying, it is a great store. Excellent bluray selection. Their record selection is not good, but their CD section is fantastic.Lots of imported stuff as well (Japanese mainly, as there is a large Japanese community in the area).

Very cool place to be if you love books, movies, collectibles etc. Prices are good. I wish they had their books as organized as their movies but I understand how time consuming that can be with all the patrons constantly moving them around.

Not enough Mangas

This is my go-to store for all of my media purchasing needs. I live near the book off location in westminster, but it is worth the drive to get to this one as the prices here are cheaper and it has a wider selection. All of my NES, Famicom, Sega Genesis, and SNES games came from here. Buying vinyl is practically a steal, as they are all one dollar, even the rare ones. There are also many rare Japanese collectibles, books, games, and movies. The staff are generally helpful and nice, but at one point, I was hassled by a lady working there. For some reason she aggressively insisted for me to not buy the vinyl because they arent tested. I told her that I could tell if it was in good condition by looking at the disc. 30 seconds later she told me that there was a record store down the street and I told her I knew that already. I didnt want to deal with her anymore so I skipped that area and left the store. Besides that one complaint, all the other times I have been there I was a happy shopper.

Bought a hand held gaming console. Great working condition. Was missing a memory card but they were upfront about this with me. While here I looked around. Great comic book selection, and very well priced musical instruments. Actually saw a fairly rare guitar for a really low price. Worth a look.

Great Hotel. The staff were very accommodating. They have a very nice pool and hot tub. Probably the best part of the stay is there wonderful breakfast. You wont go wrong staying at this property.

I love bookoff the environment all that they sell and the staff that work there for a while are very friendly and wonderful. Except one that made me feel bad a tiny bit when i was leaving. If i didnt have that tiny incident i would put a hundred stars in my opinion.

Great selection. The owner of the place has a great sense of humor. We sold him a few items we no longer needed and we bought a few games for the kids. Ill go back for sure!

Great place for japanese books, games, movies, and music. Amazing deals on english language media as well! If you are more of an explorer than a hunter you will like it. Come with an open mind. Sorry, lost one star because of modern American country music for nearly one hour.

First time there and was blown away by the selection! Everything was really easy to find and sectioned well. Employees were very nice. The guy who I’m guessing is the manager is very friendly. By far the best selection of books I’ve seen at a used book store and the prices you can’t beat

Bookoff is one of my favorite nerdy places to shop. The staff is always helpful, cheerful, and eager, and seem genuinely interested in the guests and what theyre there to shop for. Ive never experienced the Nerd Elitism at Bookoff that I have at many of the other nerd marketed stores out there. As with any second hand shop, what they have in stock is going to very by location and whats been donated recently, so factor that in if youre there looking for something specific.

Not my favorite book off for the things I look for(while all book offs have some of everythingthey tend to specialize in different genres), but all book offs are good book offs
