I have bought and sold cars here and always a smooth process for me. The last time I sold my car I did the first steps online and received a quoted offer amount. I then set an appointment for that same day. I thought they’d probably give me lower than quoted because things are never as then seem but fortunately they gave me exactly the amount quoted and I left with the amount in hand. From beginning to end It was a smooth transaction. Would definitely recommend.

I then had an appointment the next day. Christian was the Sales Rep that assisted me with my purchase at CarMax Costa Mesa. He’s amazing! Very patient & informative. I learned a lot from him regarding the financing process and he just guided me throughout which I appreciate so much. All the other reps that assisted along the way were equally as great. Horrible customer service, the worst I have ever experienced. They have such poor communication with customers and poor quality of work. If I can give a zero star I definitely would. I regret getting the car max care for my vehicle. It’s useless to be honest and just not worth the extra. I have token my vehicle to them twice I’m the 2 1/2 years that I have owned it so it’s not like I trouble them much however it’s amazing that on both occasions they just gave me the run around on things. Better off taking it to your local mechanic shop.

Took a good 3 hours to sell my car during what seemed like a slow day for them. My file had just been sitting on their desk to be finalized but the manager and her crew were just talking amongst each other. A gal that just clocked in ended up asking if I needed anything because I had been standing at the desk waiting for someone to acknowledge me. She ended up picking up my file immediately and finalizing the sale. Kudos to her for her great service.

Did most of the paperwork online, got there saw the vehicle, signed a few pages and off to finance and there was really no up selling. Process took about 40 minutes start to finish.

Liked the service here. They honour the appraisal created online. Only issue is wait time for being with staffs and title transfer are long, takes about 3 hrs. But this wait time is only once as there will be no other paper work to sell the car, left me with peace of mind.

My experience was not good. First car had lots of issues and i need to return it. I then referred my daughter to get a car here and everyone was too busy to help her (because she is young and cant afford much) even though she had an appointment would not recommend this place to anyone

If this wasn’t the worst time to buy a car I would have gone somewhere else. It was easy to test drive. The salesman was working with us and working another sale I’m pretty sure he forgot about us at one point. The transfer was nothing but a mess and still waiting on my refund after a month. I can’t get thru to anyone and the salesperson could care less now that he has his sale. Also, they said they were going to wash and detail the car and that is a joke. My 10 year old nephew could do better

Terrible experience. Went to store with an online quote to sell a one-owner Lexus in flawless condition that had just been detailed. It took over 4 hours and all they had to do was print out 2 pieces of paper for me to sign. The individual people were perfectly nice, but I have never seen such a screwed up company in my life. Best auto buying and selling experience with no pressure sales tactics.We were immediately greeted by Oscar who helped and guided us through the whole process. He was very professional and knowledgeable of the inventory at hand making. My girlfriend ended up purchasing a used 2018 Infinity Qx30 that had to be delivered from their Burbank location. We had it set aside on a Saturday afternoon and it was available by Tuesday and finished the deal in less than 2 hours.A week later, I said goodbye to my beloved Jeep Wrangler. I had received a prior offer and decided to go in and finish the deal later that week. Selling my car was even easier. I handed them the offer I had received, I was still within the 7 day period. The only wait time I had was waiting for one of the desks to open up. Once a desk or booth came available the process took only 15 min to complete, I received all pertinent paperwork, and a check for my offer. Hassle free, no pressure, no lies. The offer they made on line was the offer we got after going there with vehicle and they checked it out and test drove etc. after making the apt it said they were really busy so plan on being there an hour, we were there 3 1/2, they have a nice tent area with chairs for you to wait and make new friends. I had the greatest experience at this CarMax location! I was helped by Jose who was super efficient, kind, and communicative throughout the whole process. He gave me thorough daily updates about the status of my car’s repair so I always stayed in the loop and had all of my questions answered. There’s also an enterprise car rental location less than a mile away which is super convenient. Hopefully I won’t need their repair services again too soon but I feel good knowing there’s a great place to go.

The CarMax company is straight forward and is about equal to any used car market with offers. For this location specifically, I dont think Ive ever heard them say No, more like Let me look into that and make an effort to see whats possible. This mentality isnt just with selling or buying a car but also with their service center as well. While the nuisances of owning a car will always have variants of trouble, the CarMax Costa Mesa team has helped keep my.pwacw of mind with making the entire process of buying to maintaining easy for me.

Couldn’t ask for anything better. Got a quote online from them. Then drove the car to their site. Honestly, I was expecting a hassle, like lowering offer or some such thing. But after inspecting my car they cut me a check for the full amount which was generous compared to Kelly blue book. I was treated kindly and it was relatively quick.

Really good experience here. No issues getting in and out buying a new car, as well as coming back to sell my old car a few days later. The car even had an expired registration and a bit of a dirty interior but they still kept to their online offered price, which was was way higher than any other offer from other dealers. Id recommend this store to anybody!Only issue I had was that when I bought the car, the sales rep said hed put in a service order for a part that was missing from my car, but I called later and it looks like the order was never sent through. Gonna have to figure that out somehow because its been a little over two weeks now.Edit 4/20: I just decided to walk into the service center here (didnt even call ahead) and explain what happened. They brought out and gave me a charger they had in stock already, no questions asked! I shouldve done that from the start. Really made the whole experience that much better!

My wife and I had a great experience. Our salesperson, Leslie, was very patient with my indecisiveness and asked good questions to help me narrow down the possibilities. She opened up five different cars for me to sit in, turn on, and get a feel for (some more than once). She let us test drive two, and Im she would have been more than willing to show us more cars if we had asked. We even took a break from outside shopping to look on the computer at her desk once my criteria became more clear to make sure we werent missing any possibilities. She never pressured us to go beyond our budget. She was also very relatable--she noticed we had a Disneyland pass and we ended up talking about how it turned out we had all worked at Disneyland. We had an issue we hadnt anticipated when our debit card wouldnt work for our down payment (because of a security feature for large withdrawals) and Leslie worked with her manager to help us pay a different way since Chase had us on hold when we tried to adjust the max withdrawal. (It was a pretty solid example of one company being more efficient than another!) I dont remember the managers name, but in just the short amount of time she stopped by to help, she made it a point to congratulate us on the new car and to point out that wed see a cute feature (I forget if it was fireworks or balloons) on my phone once the payment had gone through (I point this out because sometimes in cases like that, the managers only talk to the employees, but the entire staff was personable like that). I would definitely recommend this CarMax (Costa Mesa) to anyone who is looking for a vehicle.

After spending 30 days with Carvana, trying to sell my car, being forced into a horrible text communication because the hold on the phone was always over 2 hours, I decided to give CarMax a shot. I went into their facility and completed the deal in a day. There was a bit of a wait at first, but everyone was incredibly helpful and kind. They made the process seamless (and I still had some months on my lease so it could have been much more complicated). I got a very acceptable offer in writing and the deal was done in an hour. I have to tell you, Im a stickler for customer service and was very impressed with everyone there.

How does this place have almost 5 stars? The person helping me was hella rude to me after I politely declined buying the auto insurance with CarMax. I have to thank God that happened because right when he did that I did not want to buy the car another and I ended up going to Honda World afterwards and getting a wayyyy better deal buying a used car from Honda World (with complimentary oil change service)

This place is great, but they should definitely make it very clear about the sell your car portion on the questionnaire online. They need to add questions on the current title, registration and vehicle being in or out of state for qualifying them for purchase because that could save us a trip. Also, the rep said that it takes about 1 to 2 hours to sell a car to Carmax.

Great easy experience, got an online offer and set up an appointment. Came in and they test drove the car said the offer stands. Finance department said it would take about 30 to 45 minutes to do paperwork so we had lunch and then signed papers. Whole experience took a out and hour and a half!

Trying to find a car and its ben a little hard. ( with the whole chip thing ) it seems to have caused a shortage of used cars and drove prices up and Im sure other factors......what should be a happy time(Has ben a bit depressing for me).... So we walked into CARMAX and were greeted by TYRUS ! We explained my situation and what we have to work with and so far its been the best experience Ive had this far . we really like how Tyrus helped us and that I walked out with a very nice candidate for my next cars information and it is being transferred over from another very close CarMax to this one on Harbor Blvd next to the 405 fwy .....no obligation to buy. It will be there in about 2 days...im hoping this will be the one....i left there happy, and for the first time since the end of May (and in Oklahoma), witch is when this search started. My situation is a bit different, I guess than your normal one!! But for the first time in this hunt, I feel really good about it! The way we were treated by TYRUS and the way he helped. If this car is not the one he will still help us to find it and walk us through the whole buying part of this new to me ( but used) car. .. Which I am truly grateful to my mother for. I just wish father was still alive to see me driving there gracious gift! ! Ill keep you posted on how the whole over all experience at CarMax turns out. Appointment was at 8 pm, got there early and was seen immediately. Car inspection and value price was quick and very fair. Went to window to get check and was told I need to come back within 10 days. Why make appointments without disclaimer saying you may not receive your trade in money the same day? Disappointed I wasn’t notified verbally before car evaluation.

We had a 1999 Honda Odyssey that had been in the family since it was purchased brand new off the lot at Honda World, Westminster, a month before our eldest child was born in 99. Now that eldest child is graduating college and we no longer need the family workhorse! CarMax made it super simple from the beginning. We did the online offer, showed up to our appointment, and the process went smoothly! High-five to John Paul who took care of us! If youd rather not go through the trouble of craigslist or some other private party sales method, CarMax cannot be beat! Thank you for a wonderful and easy process!

I would have given this car dealer a 5 star if the car we went to look at was ready and detailed. We had to look beyond the stains in the carpet and un-vacuumed interior. The car is in great shape but had to pay for the detailing myself.

Great way to waste 2 hours. I let the front desk know I was there for a car appraisal and was told to wait by my car outside for help. After an hour and a half I went back in to find out they never even put me on the list but was assured I would be helped very soon. I proceeded to wait another 30 minutes by my car to have no one help me still while they helped people who just got there. I guess I will go to another location.

I must admit that I was a little nervous to have an appointment to look at a car. How glad I am now that I made that appointment. I had a lease, came here to get appraisal. Pricing came out to be very good and I accepted their offer. Most processing took about 30 minutes to call for payoff information. I was able to sell off my lease and be done with suv that i no longer needed. Great customer service from everyone at appraisal team to processing office. Highly recommend

Go somewhere else!!!!!!!I would recommend you to visit another place for your car purchases and services. This place lost my car for 9 days, after I dropped it in for service. I have had a NIGHTMARE with this company. After I was in a rental that was covered by the insurance policy I purchased, It was borderline unrentable and 15 miles per gallon. I worked with the CarMax customer service and they said I shouldn’t have been ignored for over a full business week after I called nearly everyday and left messages. There is a solid miscommunication that definitely comes from the top. I wrote a review and took it down because they promised to take care of the situation. A month later I’m still trying to call and follow up with them. Laura, the service manager maybe isn’t aware of how to communicate with customers in general. Again, who is running this popsicle stand?

I have a love-hate relationship with the process of purchasing cars. At first my experience was a little crazy, I found the perfect car for me and out of nowhere it went missing, I was extremely bummed and almost decided to not trade in my car. However I decided to get on the site again and I luckily found a similar vehicle at a different location and let me tell you from the moment I got there Marcdaline made my experience that day an amazing one. Not only was she fun to work with but she genuinely cared about me and my interests. She made the process a breeze, she was on the ball every step of the way and before I even knew it she was jumping up and down with me when I got the keys to my new car! If youre considering purchasing a car from this location, do so and ask for her. She even recommended the best food spot in the area and followed up shorty after I left. AMAZING!

I was happy to find the car that I was looking to buy at CarMax. I was not happy with the offer that I got from CarMax to buy my old car. They offered to buy my old car for $200.00 That was a joke. I got offered $1,500.00 from another dealer...

I bought my car here a few years back and had a great buying experience. Tyrus was helpful and never pushy. So recently when I had some tire needs, I of course called them first. They weren’t able to help me patch the tire, but they did call me to let me know why, didn’t charge me for a service “evaluation” or whatever other places call it, and they returned my car washed! Such great and honest service from Rick Zeppenfeldt!!

The experience was great. Very fast service. We got just a little less than what we could have gotten in a private party sale, but very fair, according to my online research. We saved the hassle which is common in private party sales.

So many people told me do not buy from CarMax yet I still did despite all the negative feedback I’ve heard.So, I bought my 2018 Honda about 5-6 months ago & from the BEGINNING I’ve had issues with it.I had to take it in over 4X TO GET REPAIRED.One major incident I had was the caliber on the front tire fell completely off WHILE I WAS DRIVING & almost got in a bad accident In ongoing traffic. CarMax said it wasn’t correctly put back on after getting my breaks fixed a few days before this incident!So they fixed everything before my warranty was up & now my breaks are making this humiliating LOUD noise everytime I break.Mind you they “fixed” this issue about 3 times because I kept having to take it back because the noise kept coming back.& now it’s back even louder!I didn’t return the car because I trusted CarMax would fix all issues!After all the drama with my car I asked for an extended warranty which was denied.Now I need to pay out of my own pocket for the issue to get fixed CORRECTLY!!!!!!What a shame CarMax.I will not be ever buying again & I will let everyone know about my experience.

Everyone I interacted with was fine, but the day before, I was told since I had an appointment and paperwork, it would only take 30 minutes to sell.I got to my appointment 5 minutes early and had to wait over an hour for my car to be looked at. Then another hour and a half for paperwork to be ready to be signed. Wasted my day and lost wages since I couldn’t work.Why have appointments if this is what happens?

I received a higher than expected offer for my car. It made buying a new car at the dealership much easier. After negotiating the price of my new car, I gave the other car dealership a chance to match the offer. Their best offer was 1000 dollars less. I drove my car back to carmax and completed the sale. I was out the door in about twenty minutes. It was a great experience and I received a better deal for my trade-in.

There were DMV forms that could have been filled out at the dealership that would have saved me 2 trips to the DMV to transfer license plates but they did not want to do that for me. It has been almost 2 months since I purchased my vehicle and my license plates are still incorrect which is affecting my ability to drive for UBER and LYFT. If you are going to do it do it all to satisfy the customer.

Really bad customer service, I been waiting for over an hours besides the car, and it was no one showing up. So i went back to inside talked to the guy who helped me. His name is Riddie. He told me he cancelled my order because he didn’t see me, I said I did left my phone number but why don’t you call me if you didn’t see me. He said he is too busy and he is not going to call. That is why he dropped my ordered. I said i was literally sat in my car and my car literally was besides the car that I was going to sell. He said he could put me back in but it is going to be other 45 mins with really bad attitude.

It was my first experience and it was a lot easier than I was expecting. The staff were all extremely nice and efficient. Not a lot of places value customer service anymore, so I really appreciate the outstanding customer service I received when selling my car. They gave me a fair offer and I sold it to them that day and I was in and out within the hour (I also made an appointment). Thanks again, guys!

Car I came and got first off needed a jump to even start then in the trunk where the battery was there was some kinda liquid down there then once I get the car and have it for less then a week my oil light comes on and the car had no oil at all in it when I checked the dip stick then I checked the coolant looks old and like mainly water not happy at all with the service/maintenance on the car before letting it leave the lot
