As a coin collector for many years and a recipient of awards for certain set coins I decided to drive down to Decatur and check this business out. The staff was very nice and friendly but after entering their facility it was apparent their main interest was jewelry and NOT so much in numismatics. I decided to go ahead see how they would value a few coins I had brought with me. The first item I had them value was a 2011 Silver Eagle Anniversary set ungraded but in the original box from the U.S. Mint. They offered me $125 which was not even in the ballpark. (after them, I took this set to 2 other coin shops in central Illinois and was offered $450.00 and $525.00 for the very same set) I then had them evaluate individual coins, not expensive coins (under $500) and after they spent time on their computer they came back with really low ball offers. So I passed on those as well. Then I hit them with one big coin, of the rarer Franklin Proofs with a known GRADED (verified)POPULATION of 38 in existence, they informed me they couldnt find anything on line that compared to that (well I wonder why, that is why it is rare) at that grade but they offered me a price that actually showed to me they werent too knowledgeable when it came to numismatics. So I came back and digested my visit to Decatur Coin and Jewelry for a few weeks and this is my review. As I stated when it comes to jewelry they are much stronger but as far as coins, bills, anything numismatic I would advise looking elsewhere. They also had a few coins for sale but nothing special, just run-of-the-mill type stuff. Again the workers were very nice and not condescending like some shops are. I gave them 2 stars on their staff. Watch for my next review of other coin shops in Illinois.........

Always a fun place to go in visit and look around. I remember going to this place as a child in the 80s. For a while, they had rather amusing commercials in which the father and daughter team that run the place were mistaken for spouses and in each commercial they would have to make it clear to an oblivious customer that that was not the case and that they were in fact father and daughter
